A chronological survey of western music history from the Middle Ages through the 20th century. Emphasis will be on musical terminology, style, vocal and instrumental genres, and major composers. No previous musical experience is required, but since the course aims to develop stronger listening skills, students will attend off-campus musical events and listen to musical masterworks in class.
