1:05

Well, tonight, we're talking about a mysterious

1:08

death that happened April fourteenth

1:10

twenty twenty two in Lynchburg, Virginia.

1:12

and the mysterious death

1:15

was of a young man named Johnny

1:18

Cashman. I say young man because he's younger

1:20

than me. was thirty eight. This

1:22

was in Lynchburg, Virginia. I've

1:24

never been there, but looking at photos

1:27

and talking to people, it looks Virginia

1:29

looks beautiful and that town is

1:31

you know, it's population of

1:34

around eighty thousand. So

1:37

I think it's a quaint town where

1:39

you can still have a small town feel

1:41

and no people around you, people

1:43

help each other out. But

1:46

like any town, there is crime

1:48

and other elements that happen.

1:51

So really this case starts off, Justin,

1:53

because Johnny's mother,

1:55

Kim, She hadn't heard

1:57

from him since that day. So she spoke to

2:00

him on April fourteenth, which was in twenty

2:02

twenty two. But then

2:04

she hadn't heard from him for a few days and

2:06

that worried her because she

2:08

was used to getting a text from him or a call

2:10

every day. if not more than

2:13

one. Now with

2:15

his having depression, that's

2:17

always a fear, right, that maybe

2:20

he's not wanting to talk to anyone

2:22

or we could imagine something

2:24

worse happening. Yeah. And

2:26

his parents and sister,

2:28

they all live in Maine, which is hundreds

2:31

of miles away. So they can't

2:33

just jump in their car and go visit

2:35

him. It's a long

2:37

distance. So they their

2:40

only communication is via phone or

2:42

text. And when they don't hear from

2:44

them, it's a little bothersome.

2:47

That's

2:47

five days later on April nineteenth

2:50

when Kim called the Lynchburg Police

2:52

Department. And she said, you know,

2:54

I talked to my son five days ago,

2:56

but I haven't heard from him since that is

2:59

out of the ordinary. Is there any way

3:01

you could check on him? And as

3:03

we all know, that means, if the police

3:05

agree to it, that means they'll conduct

3:07

a welfare check. And at

3:10

five forty five, AM,

3:12

officers go to his apartment and

3:14

they knock, but no one answers

3:16

the door.

3:18

Now, Aaron at five forty five or

3:20

anytime before six AM, I

3:22

don't know if anyone's answering the door. I

3:24

think a lot of us are gonna be asleep, so

3:27

that makes sense. Right.

3:28

Yeah. But credit

3:30

to them, they do conduct this

3:32

welfare check, and then they come back several

3:34

more times knocking and

3:36

trying to get contact made

3:38

with Johnny Cashman. Now

3:41

at eight AM, they get

3:43

a key to the apartment. There is

3:45

some concern here that because he's not answering

3:47

that maybe something has

3:49

happened he can't

3:51

answer. Right? We don't know if he's unconscious

3:54

or if he's not willing

3:56

to answer the door or if there has

3:58

been a suicide attempt. We hope not.

4:00

But They gain access

4:03

to his apartment. What

4:05

do they find inside?

4:07

Well, according to the police, they

4:09

find lying on his back.

4:12

on the floor. He's obviously

4:14

dead. They

4:17

see blood. Puddles

4:19

of blood, but they

4:22

determine that there isn't any

4:24

foul play. The

4:26

officers do speak with Johnny's family

4:29

and they say it

4:31

looked like this was an apparent

4:34

medical condition that preceded his

4:36

death. In other words, They

4:38

don't think anyone attacked him or

4:40

murdered him.

4:41

His family is obviously concerned.

4:44

His father is asking

4:47

Was there any signs of

4:49

violence? Was it

4:51

a suicide

4:51

or anything like that?

4:54

And this is John Cashman.

4:56

Yeah.

4:56

And law enforcement saying no.

5:00

It looks very natural and

5:04

they go on to ask

5:06

if they think he suffered and

5:09

the police will say, no,

5:11

it looks like this was pretty

5:13

instantaneous, which I

5:15

don't know how they would know that, but

5:18

they're saying that he probably

5:20

didn't suffer and this

5:22

was all natural. So

5:24

Johnny's body is obviously removed

5:26

from the home and

5:28

The family is asking about an autopsy if

5:31

an autopsy is gonna be done. And

5:33

what do the police and law

5:35

enforcement say to that? Well,

5:37

their response is know the

5:39

case is closed, meaning they

5:41

don't think one is necessary.

5:43

And that is a thing, Erin. I

5:46

I had to go look that up. because

5:48

I just assumed that autopsies

5:50

were always done, but

5:53

it's not generally necessary

5:56

as the Internet says, if

5:58

the cause

5:59

of death

5:59

is known, meaning if

6:02

somebody's old and has a

6:04

heart attack or somebody, you know,

6:06

obviously, has

6:08

cancer or something to that effect,

6:11

they

6:11

say, well, there's no need for an

6:13

autopsy. We can just take

6:16

the body and go

6:18

ahead and creamate or

6:20

whatever you wanna do. And

6:22

the family

6:24

takes

6:25

law enforcement's word

6:28

that there is no need for an autopsy.

6:30

This was very straightforward. and

6:32

it was obviously a medical

6:35

issue or medical emergency type of

6:37

deal. So

6:38

they make arrangements with a funeral

6:40

home which is located in Lynchburg

6:43

to have Johnny Cashman junior

6:45

cremated so that they can

6:47

bring his remains back to Maine his

6:50

ashes. They're

6:51

having to do this all from afar

6:54

because they live in Maine, so

6:56

they're just making phone calls and

6:58

arranging this to be

7:00

done. At no point,

7:02

has anyone stepped foot into

7:05

Johnny Cashman junior's apartment? not

7:07

until April twenty ninth. That's

7:10

when Johnny's ex girlfriend and

7:12

her mother, go to the apartment to

7:14

get a few things. And we

7:16

don't know her name, She

7:18

has requested to remain anonymous,

7:21

but she has spoken to the media, and

7:23

this is what she said. Well, we

7:25

open the door and the first thing you

7:27

see is an abundant amount of

7:29

blood in the bathroom, which is

7:31

not at all what they were expecting to see of

7:33

course. Right? They say that

7:35

the whole floor is just covered

7:37

in blood. There's blood on

7:40

the counters, the sinks, the

7:42

walls, and the toilet. And

7:45

there's even in other parts of the

7:47

apartment, there's blood on door frames,

7:49

floors, walls, window

7:51

sill and even on a chair, and

7:54

there are streaks of blood, including

7:56

some that look like they were left by fingers.
