America Speaks held a national dialogue on how to reduce the Federal Budget by 1.2 trillion dollars by 2025. Over 3,500 people gave up their Saturday to discuss the topic. A diverse group by age, ethnicity, gender, and political leanings the results were surprising and very gratifying. This event where 19 sites simultaneously learned about the budget, walked through the options to cut: Healthcare (Medicare and Medicaid), Social Security, Defense, and non-defense spending; and then choose what areas to cut to achieve a 1.2 trillion reduction, was amazing. As a facilitator of a small table of six in Casper, Wyoming, I've invited participants, other facilitators and representatives from America Speaks to share with us their experience.
