This is an autobiographical tale from Matthew Alexander Henson, an American explorer, who accompanied Robert Peary on seven voyages into the Arctic and with whom he spent a total of 18 years on various expeditions. In 1937, Henson was the first African-American to be made a life member of the Explorers Club, a professional society that promotes scientific exploration and field study.
