In this week’s episode, our host Denise is joined by special guest Dimosthenis Manasis, Director/Instructor at <<MANASIS>> School of Greek Dance and Culture, the largest Greek dance school in Australia and arguably even the Greek diaspora. In Part One of our conversation, we discuss Greek dance and its implications for culture and multiculturalism in Australia, specifically its role in keeping cultural identity alive. In doing so, Dimosthenis reveals the journey from where his dance school began, particularly through his father Alkis’ influence, and we discuss the evolution and changing nature of Greek dance. We also go back to basics and discuss the ways in which our Greek-Australian community is engaged through balls, panigiria and the like - with Greek music and dance at the forefront of keeping the youth interested and excited about our identity.
