Kicking off a New Year felt like this particular topic was apt. Getting back on the horse. Starting again.

Most skills we develop require some level of practical application or practice to maintain. Learning an instrument as a kid doesn’t mean you’ll be able to just play it later if you don’t keep up with practice. Other things may be a bit rusty but with a bit of focus, the old skills come back. For some reason, it’s not like that with riding a bike. In fact the phrase “It’s just like riding a bike” is meant to imply that once you’ve learned it, it’s learned. Don’t do it for a while and then hop on, and off you’ll go.

In this week’s episode - sparked by a video posted by a friend - a bit of reminiscing about the day I learned how to ride without training wheels. It was about freedom and in hindsight it is clear that the lessons from that day actually became how I have moved through the world since.
