I will be waiting for you on the other side.
4:00
I literally did it again. Right before the music started playing,
4:04
I said, let's get it like I did in the last episode,
4:07
which really is an invisible, but yet auditory indication that I'm excited to be here.
4:16
I'm excited for what's to come in the Teacher Let Your Light Shine community
4:20
because we are literally a week away, a week away from the Microschool Masterminds opening up.
4:28
I'm so excited, not only for you to get this information, like it is a work of love.
4:34
It is a work of art. it is a work of my highest self.
4:37
Truthfully, praise God, it is my highest self that operated in this realm.
4:45
I'm so grateful to put it out into the world.
4:48
I'm so grateful to have Lighthouse Learning, our micro school, out into the world.
4:52
And I cannot wait for you, whether or not you've started your school or not,
4:56
whether or not you're in the middle of just really transitioning from,
5:00
from, okay, I'm a teacher, now I'm a CEO.
5:03
I've been here for about two years, but now I'm hiring a team.
5:06
What does this actually look like? It's big, it's huge.
5:10
It's huge, you all. And it's worth a really great episode about.
5:16
Because as a teacher entrepreneur, you have the opportunity to step into a new
5:20
level of leadership, the CEO of your own educational enterprise.
5:26
But what does it really take to make this transition successful?
5:30
Let's uncover the key strategies. First and foremost, honing your leadership skills.
5:36
Leadership is not just about managing tasks. It's about inspiring and empowering
5:41
others to achieve a shared vision. That's why it's so important that you have
5:45
your mission, your vision, your belief statements. You give that to the people that you hire. It's in your introductory packet.
5:52
You take the time to develop your communication, the systems of operations that
5:57
I just explained in the previous episode, help with decision making,
6:01
problem solving abilities, investing in leadership training.
6:06
And if you're going, oh my gosh, I just want to work by myself.
6:09
I work really well by myself. I'm an introvert. Oh gosh, I just started this school.
6:14
Now I gotta start learning how to hire people. Now I gotta get into this leadership
6:18
role. Yes, you do. You do.
6:21
Own it, baby. Get ready for it. Let it ignite you.
6:27
Let yourself be heard. Let yourself be helped because you're not only helping
6:33
other people when you become a leader, other people are helping you.
6:38
You have so much professional development development at your fingertips to
6:43
enhance your skills and confidence as a leader, especially if you join micro school masterminds.
6:48
You're really going to learn the art of effective delegation.
6:51
When you become a leader, you've got to learn how to delegate.
6:55
As a teacher entrepreneur, it literally can be so tempting to try to do it everything
6:59
by yourself because we're teachers, we're caretakers, we know how to run a classroom, we got this.
7:04
But true leadership means trusting and empowering your team to take ownership
7:08
of their roles and contribute their unique talents and perspectives.
7:12
For an example, when my mother-in-law first came to work with me at our house
7:15
the very first year of our micro school, I was just like, take it, girl.
7:19
Take those kindergartners. Yep, take them.
7:22
And I loved them. I actually wanted to teach the kindergartners more than I did the third graders.
7:28
I only had kindergartners and third graders and two seventh graders,
7:31
which they were on their own, more independent. One was my daughter. One was the the sister of another student.
7:37
My daughter, Juliana, she was in third grade. I was like, please let me take
7:41
the kindergartners because as much as I want to teach my own daughter.
7:47
Yike-a-rumba! Yo! We are still together, friends.
7:50
We are moving into year five next year and she still wants to be here. Praise God.
7:56
I'm so grateful because I'm so glad she did not just want to run away. Let's just be honest.
8:02
I mean, I thought I was a good enough teacher. I thought I was a good enough mom.
8:07
And then I put them all together and I was like, wow, this is something I never
8:11
thought I would have to do. But I wanted to. So here we go. Let's make the most of this.
8:16
But I went to my mother-in-law. She was like, I'm not teaching third graders. And I had always taught third
8:21
graders. But I was like, oh, I love the kindergartners.
8:24
And she's like, but I'm really great at teaching kindergarten. I know how to teach sounds. And I know how to teach them how to read.
8:28
And she just, she went with it.
8:31
And I was like, Grandma Val, this is my mother-in-law. They got to know. And they got to know.
8:36
And I gave her all of the things that they needed to know. And she's like,
8:40
they're going to know more than that. And by God, they did. They totally knew more.
8:45
I let her go. She was playing superheroes with them. She was making up worksheets for them.
8:49
She was making up little note paper cards with stories with their name in it,
8:57
with their specific sight words and their specific sounds.
8:59
It was unbelievable. But that was her gift and talent. And I let her go with it.
9:04
I did not need to boss her around. I just needed someone to help me.
9:07
So I know what it's like to try to do everything yourself. And I was trying
9:11
to market. I was trying to take kids on field trips. It was a lot. lot.
9:15
But true leadership really does mean trusting and empowering people to take
9:19
ownership of their role. Delegating tasks and responsibilities strategically, providing the support and
9:25
the resources. I'm telling you, I had a teacher this year, straight up from public school.
9:29
She was like, oh my gosh, this is like a whole nother career.
9:33
And I talked about this on one of the videos I made in Microschool Masterminds
9:38
is about my curriculum and how I quickly found out in year four that my curriculum
9:44
did not align with my purpose and vision because my purpose and vision had changed for our school.
9:49
So literally in October, we chucked our math and she found a new math program and just went with it.
9:57
I'm like, get it girl. High five. Let's go. Yes.
10:01
It does not need to be my way or the highway. Heck no. That road will come to a dead and real quickly.
10:08
So I love empowering people. I don't think it's always come easy to just let it go.
10:15
But I'm here to tell you that I'm learning real quickly that if we want to get
10:20
higher and we want to get more impact and we want to get more bold and more
10:24
courageous and more time freedom, we got to give things up.
10:27
We have to drive our vision forward with passion and with purpose.
10:32
This because when you are a visionary leader, you have a very bold and compelling
10:37
vision for the future of education. When you share your vision with enthusiasm and you have this conviction and
10:43
this inspiration for others to join you on this journey, it really does help
10:47
you stay focused on your long-term goals. You get to lead by example as you work, sometimes tirelessly,
10:54
to bring your vision to life.
10:58
So one part of our Microschool Masterminds, one module is all about hiring your dream team.
11:04
Now, when you get into Microschool Masterminds, you're not going to get every
11:08
single little little thing that there is to know about a micro school or homeschool
11:11
hybrid, that would be completely overwhelming. It would take you years to get through all of the information,
11:17
but we've given you just the right amount.
11:20
We've given you enough to get your satisfaction, to get your questions answered.
11:27
You can get in, watch the videos, start downloading, start learning.
11:31
And then every month we have our group coaching. We have our live questions and answers.
11:36
We've got got our online community and our school platform. It's an app that
11:39
you download and you've got all your modules right at your fingertips.
11:43
You got your online community asking questions and it is going to be so good
11:48
because we've got to hire a dream team. We do.
11:51
We have to be able to foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement,
11:55
especially for people who've never been in alternative education teaching models before.
12:00
So we get to encourage creativity. We get to to encourage experimentation.
12:04
I had a teacher this year. She created our entire social emotional behavior management system.
12:11
It is on fire. We're telling her, you've got to patent this. Is that the word patent?
12:17
You got to put this on teachers pay teachers. Girl, you need to write a book
12:20
about a year and make millions of dollars. She'd go to our Facebook page, Lighthouse Learning Microschool. It is so cool.
12:27
I think I posted about it last week. It's about social emotional learning.
12:31
Oh, oh, she's got a mailbox. She's got all these little stuffed animals.
12:34
All the kids get them. They get to earn a crow.
12:37
They got MVP. Even our middle schoolers are into it.
12:41
Even our middle schoolers are into it. But I am so thankful,
12:48
We have been able to embrace new ideas, new technologies. I would have never
12:51
been able to think of all that on my own. No way.
12:54
Order new curriculum. Find the new curriculum. No, I hired people to help me with that.
13:00
Creating a safe and supportive environment. And then, you won't even believe this, in November,
13:06
God brought me a curriculum designer that came in and designed our school's
13:12
curriculum in the middle of the year to make it better and created this entire
13:16
curriculum for next year, our integrated trades program, our careers pathway.
13:21
Oh my gosh, our project-based learning.
13:25
She's, it's like Jesus take the wheel, it's Jane take the wheel.
13:28
That's what she's doing. And I don't wanna do that anymore. I don't want to.
13:34
That's a part of becoming a CEO is I found other things now that I'm passionate about. I have.
13:40
I love the admin side of running the school.
13:44
I love popping into the classrooms. I love taking care of boo-boos.
13:49
I love being able to hug kids if they're sad.
13:52
I love being able to put together community events and open houses. That's what I love.
13:59
Maybe you don't. Maybe you wanna hire someone to do that for you.
14:02
What I don't love is the enrollment process.
14:06
And I used to do that on my own. I hired someone else to do that for me.
14:10
We've got a very good communication, very good system together that we work through.
14:15
And she gets people, she gets their interest form, she gets their enrollment
14:18
form, she gets their payments, she sends them the emails. I don't want to do that.
14:22
I want to work on all the things that I love to do.
14:26
I want to work on inspiring people. I want to work on creating a warm,
14:30
peaceful, nurturing school atmosphere. I absolutely love marketing. I love being able to work part-time and still be
14:40
able to earn an income, a significantly more income than if I were a principal in a school.
14:47
And I love being able to do micro school masterminds. That's what I love.
14:53
What do you love? Because whatever it is that you love, let me tell you,
14:57
God will bless your courage and your passion to step out and do it if you'll
15:01
release the control and you'll help other people step into their purpose.
15:07
Empower them, give them the opportunity.
15:11
Finally, leading with integrity and authenticity. And sometimes that's hard.
15:16
Being true to yourself, not trying to be a people pleaser,
15:21
not withholding your values your principles as you
15:25
navigate navigate the complexities of leadership people are going to ask you
15:28
hard questions parents are going to want things from you that you can't give
15:32
them but if you build trust and credibility with your team with your students
15:36
with your community and you demonstrate honesty i don't know transparency i'm
15:42
working on it or no i don't do do that. Accountability, I'll get back to you. In all your actions, you will have true leadership.
15:51
And it's not about titles. It's not about authority.
15:53
It's about making a positive impact and leaving a legacy that inspires others
15:58
and fuels your lifeline.
16:01
When you embrace your leadership role in this area of alternative education,
16:06
you hone your skills as a visionary leader, you'll not only transform your school,
16:11
but you will inspire others to do the same.
16:14
So you step into your power, you lead with courage and conviction and unleash
16:19
your potential to make a lasting impact on the world of education.
16:23
I'm so happy for you. So happy that you're even listening to this,
16:27
even if you haven't started yet. Let me tell you, the road is paved in gold.
16:32
