This week's episode of Tell Tale is all about Robert Halpin from Wicklow, who was one of the most interesting and important mariners of the 19th century.
He lived an extraordinary life! Running away to sea as a young boy was just the start and he had many adventures such as the laying of a cross Atlantic Cable (that almost everyone said couldn't be laid) then losing the connection when it snapped in the middle of the Ocean, then finding it again, then losing it again (D'Oh!) and then finding it again.
On his retirement, Robert designed and built the magnificent Tinakilly House in Wicklow where he lived out his days and died after cutting his toenails.
