Welcome to Ten Minute Bible Talks! Where

0:07

we can act The Bible to your life and. The time

0:09

it takes to get to work. I'm Jensen Hope Mcnair.

0:13

Jesus is king. Now.

0:16

What comes to your mind when I say that?

0:19

I. Have to admit that I think

0:21

about Connie West's ninth studio album

0:23

titled Jesus Is King. See.

0:25

When West release this album, it left much

0:27

of the Christian community divided over whether or

0:30

not we should get behind the album either

0:32

because of the lyrics are the fact that

0:34

Connie West was the one who had written

0:36

it. I'm. Not here to

0:38

argue over whether it's okay to sing Jesus

0:40

as King a church. What I

0:42

do find interesting is the fact that

0:45

when Connie released this album, he called

0:47

it an expression of the gospel. He.

0:49

Says that when he gave his life over

0:52

to God, he wanted to spread the gospel

0:54

and so he wrote Jesus as King. And.

0:56

No matter what you think about the album

0:59

or connie. I. Find it

1:01

incredibly interesting the Connie title an

1:03

album to spread the gospel. Jesus

1:05

is king. Not. Because

1:07

it's wrong. I actually think he's right on

1:09

the money. But. Because if you

1:11

ask most modern Christians what the

1:14

gospel is, they give you an

1:16

answer that had very little, if

1:18

anything. To. Do with the idea

1:21

of Jesus being king. Instead

1:23

at most people's gospel go something

1:25

like this. Jesus. Came and

1:27

died for our sins or that we can go to

1:29

heaven one day. And if you believe

1:31

in him and repent of your sins, he will forgive you

1:33

and take you to heaven when you die. Now.

1:36

Most theologians would agree that this

1:38

portrayal of the gospel includes key

1:40

truths that we find in scripture.

1:43

But. Many also agree that we're

1:45

missing out on huge parts of

1:47

the gospel story that Jesus himself

1:50

seem to focus on. Jesus

1:52

didn't come just to give us a

1:54

get out of hell free card. He.

1:57

Came with the mission. With a purpose.

1:59

He. Aim as a still it to

2:02

a bigger story. God had been writing

2:04

for hundreds of years. He. Came

2:06

to be keen. But.

2:09

I'm getting ahead of myself. See today

2:11

we're all the way back in Daniel.

2:13

Seven Jesus has not come on the

2:15

seen yet. Instead of we've

2:17

been following the life of the annual.

2:19

he's a safe will do living in

2:21

exile in Babylon, and he's remaining faithful

2:23

to God as he directly serves and

2:25

the governments of foreign. Kings. And

2:28

so far we've been dealing with narrative

2:31

about the in his life. But.

2:33

Today with chapter seven, the Book of

2:35

Daniel takes a turn. From. Here

2:37

on out we will be dealing

2:39

with the prophetic apocalyptic visions the

2:42

Daniel had throughout. His life. The

2:44

chapter seven it doesn't follow chronologically from

2:46

chapter six and said it takes us

2:48

back to a time earlier on in

2:50

Daniels life when he's given a vision

2:52

from God. Now. As been

2:55

listening and reading along with as you

2:57

may have recognize that this vision has

2:59

similar components to the one that Daniel

3:01

interpreted for King Nebuchadnezzar. Back and chapter

3:03

to. See. Daniel sees

3:05

for beasts which represent for

3:07

powerful kingdoms of the world.

3:10

But. Inverse Nine Daniel see someone

3:12

else enter the seen. As

3:15

I lift thrones were placed and the

3:17

ancient of days took a seat. With.

3:19

Clothing with white as snow. And.

3:21

A hair of his head at like pure wall.

3:24

His throne with fiery flames.

3:26

It's wheels were burning fire.

3:29

A stream of fire issued and

3:31

came out from before him. A

3:33

thousand thousands served him. And ten

3:35

thousand times, ten thousand. Stood before

3:37

him. The. Court satin judgment.

3:40

And. The books were opened, I

3:42

looked then because of the sound of the

3:44

great words that the horn was speaking and

3:46

as I looked. The. Beast with killed

3:48

and it's body destroyed and given over

3:50

to be burned with fire. As.

3:53

For the rest of the beasts, their dominion, it.

3:55

Was taken away. But. Their lives

3:57

were prolonged for a season and a time.

4:00

So here. We. Have the ancient a day

4:02

is who is God. And. He sitting on

4:04

the judgment seat. He has

4:06

why clothing to symbolizes purity, hair

4:08

of wolves symbolizes wisdom, and a

4:11

flame surrounding his throne. reminders of

4:13

his power and divine presence as

4:15

thousand thousands stand before him, telling

4:17

us that all nations and not

4:19

just these for or before him.

4:22

Because he judges justly, the fourth

4:25

beast is killed. And the

4:27

remaining beasts have their dominion. Taken away

4:29

from them though they persist. New.

4:32

Kingdom can overpower or outlast God in

4:34

his divine judgment. He will end of

4:36

the oppressive kingdoms of the world and

4:39

strip them of their dominion. And.

4:41

In a falling vs we learn where this

4:43

dominion the power to rule over the whole

4:46

earth is given. Birth. Thirteen.

4:49

And behold, With. The clouds

4:51

of have in their came one at like a

4:53

son of man. And he came

4:55

to the ancient of days and was presented

4:57

before him. Into him was

4:59

given dominion and glory and a

5:01

kingdom that all peoples, nations and

5:03

languages should serve him. His

5:06

dominion is an everlasting dominion which

5:08

shall not pass away, and his

5:10

kingdom one that shall not be

5:12

destroyed. So. Here we

5:14

learn that dominion and glory and

5:17

an everlasting kingdom that will reign

5:19

over all people and nations is

5:21

given to one like a son

5:23

of man. In. Other places

5:26

in the Old Testament, the phrase

5:28

son of Man is used just

5:30

to denote that someone is human.

5:32

Moon. But this son of

5:34

man is different. He. The

5:36

to son of Man he also come

5:39

on the clouds which is used in

5:41

other places of scripture as a symbol

5:43

to denote divine authority. says. She

5:45

has presented Before the age of

5:48

days he's given dominion and glory

5:50

and a kingdom of all which

5:52

parallels Gods dominion. And

5:54

so while this one is like a son

5:57

of man, he is also distinctly other. His.

5:59

Off. The Divine. And it is

6:01

this son of Man who will be given the

6:04

dominion to rule over all of creation. To.

6:06

Have a kingdom that will never be destroyed to

6:08

be the one who will be. King

6:10

Forever. And Daniel

6:13

as he's seeing this vision. He's

6:15

anxious and troubled later. It.

6:17

Hell's as his thoughts greatly alarmed him.

6:20

Who. Would this may be. What?

6:22

Would his kingdom be like. How

6:24

would he overcome the kingdoms of the

6:26

world? Daniel. Is stunned by what

6:28

he has seen and he doesn't have the complete.

6:30

Picture. But. This vision of

6:32

the son of Man would stick in the minds

6:34

of the Jewish people. As foreign

6:37

kingdoms ruled over and oppress them, they

6:39

would look back and be reminded that

6:41

God had promised to establish davis kingdom

6:43

for ever. and here. They. Learned

6:46

that he would do it through this

6:48

son of man, one who would be

6:50

human. And. Yet also

6:52

divine. And so they waited. Not.

6:54

For a personal savior. Not. For someone

6:57

who had set them free from hell. In.

6:59

A They waited for a king. And

7:01

then. A man from this earth

7:03

named Jesus came onto the scene. And

7:06

threw out his ministry. Recorded

7:08

in the Gospels, we find

7:10

a multitude of accounts of

7:12

Jesus referring to himself as.

7:15

The. Son of man. And as

7:17

he does so, he ruffle feathers. At

7:19

first people may think he is just

7:21

calling himself a human, a son of

7:23

man of adam. But. As

7:25

his ministry progresses as he becomes

7:27

more bold as becomes more scrutinized,

7:30

they begin to realize what she's

7:32

actually saying. See. When they realize

7:34

he's been saying things like. The. Time

7:36

is a sales and the kingdom of God

7:38

is at hand. Repent and believe in the

7:40

gospel. Since. The very beginning

7:43

of his ministry. They cannot ignore

7:45

the fact that Jesus isn't just

7:47

claiming to be a son of

7:49

man. But. V D. son of

7:51

Man. The wonder was prophesied

7:53

to come all the way back

7:55

in Daniel. Chapter seven. And.

7:58

A mark fourteen when they arrested. The

8:00

for his claims and put him on trial.

8:02

There's no more guessing needed. Jesus

8:04

makes it very clear who he

8:07

is. Again, the high

8:09

priests asked him, Are you the

8:11

Messiah The son of the Blessed

8:13

One. I. Am said Jesus

8:15

and you will see the son of

8:17

Man sitting at the right hand of

8:19

the mighty One and coming on the

8:21

clouds of having. Jesus.

8:23

Is so clear in his assertion that

8:25

he is the one from Daniel Seven.

8:28

That they kill him for blasphemy. They

8:30

hang him on across to die because he tells

8:32

him that he is the one Dino spoke of.

8:35

The. Stands before the ancient of days

8:37

and comes down on the clouds

8:39

to establish his kingdom. The promised

8:41

kingdom was no end. He is

8:43

the promised Messianic keen. There's no

8:45

mistaking what he sang here. Jesus.

8:48

Never wavered from his message. He.

8:50

Was sent to establish a kingdom that would

8:52

never end. He was sent

8:54

as the promised king of the son

8:56

of Man who would have an everlasting

8:58

dominion and glory. Jesus brought

9:01

the good news the gospel that

9:03

should come from the better kingdom.

9:05

One that would not oppressed the week. One.

9:08

That would not be divided by opinions.

9:10

One that was not built on greed.

9:12

One that would not be rampant with

9:14

injustice, evil, war, and unrest. He

9:16

would establish an everlasting kingdom

9:18

full of love. Justice.

9:21

And peace. And. He spent

9:23

his life teaching his disciples and

9:26

the crowds about what this kingdom

9:28

look. What? Kind of king

9:30

he would be and how we could

9:32

live alongside him in disk in the.

9:36

Course. Part. Of Jesus establishing

9:38

his kingdom meant that he had to make

9:40

a way for sinful people to dwell with

9:42

a Holy God. And so he

9:44

secured our righteousness on the cross and broke

9:46

the chains the death had on humanity when

9:48

he rose from the dead. The good news

9:50

of the gospel is the Jesus made a

9:52

way for you and I to live in

9:54

his kingdom with him. As our

9:56

King for. This means

9:59

that Jesus is. When. He

10:01

is the one a Daniel Seven tells

10:03

us about. He's the King and he

10:05

invites you and me to live our

10:07

lives. And humble submission

10:09

to. A good king. Obediently

10:12

following him and devoting our

10:14

gifts or talents our entire

10:17

lives to establishing his king.

10:19

Them. In our life. One.

10:22

Day He will return and bring

10:24

his physical reign over all the

10:26

earth. He has full dominion

10:28

now, but the kingdoms of the world still

10:30

exist. Death. Has no claim to

10:33

as if we have given our lives

10:35

over to Jesus. We. Are

10:37

members of a Better Kingdom? This.

10:40

Kingdom terms with the King The King who

10:42

calls us to live in the way that

10:44

we were created to live. Too.

10:46

Often we forget Jesus as purpose and coming

10:48

to earth. We. Forget the he came

10:50

to establish a kingdom. To be a king.

10:53

We. Forget that He calls us to repent

10:55

and believe. In. The gospel believes

10:57

there's a better kingdom, a better

10:59

kings, a better way to live.

11:02

And to not just believes and a

11:04

mental affirmation way, but the believe so

11:07

deeply. The Jesus as King right knew

11:09

that it shapes, it influences every area

11:11

of our lives. If you really truly

11:14

believe that Jesus was the one who

11:16

the Father sent to bring his everlasting

11:18

kingdom to this world, If you really

11:21

believe that Jesus is that promised King

11:23

how it your life changed to they.

11:26

King Jesus is asking for

11:28

your whole life. And.

11:30

In return he's in fighting you into

11:32

a mission. The Purpose: A kingdom. It's

11:34

far bigger than you. It's the

11:37

best thing you could ever hope for. The

11:39

most beautiful kingdom that will never fail, never

11:41

fallen to ruin, never be torn apart. With

11:44

ruled by a good and loving king who

11:46

created you. Created. You to

11:48

live in a way. That is good for

11:51

you. See bleeding And the gospel

11:53

isn't just saying you believe Jesus died and rose

11:55

from the dead so you don't go to Hell.

11:57

It's. So much bigger than that.

12:00

So much more beautiful than that. It's

12:02

so much more transformative than the. The.

12:04

Good news of the gospel begins

12:06

today. not when you die. Jesus

12:08

is. King today. Sees.

12:11

This is calling you to build

12:13

his kingdom alongside him today. Will.
