RATING
I'm giving this a 3 star only for the fact it's finished and I thought there was going to be much more but there wasn't. It's a basic overview of the facts to the case. There is no real investigation of such in Tom's case. Considering there was Philip Kline private investigator on the case I don't feel there is really enough released in this case. Still worth a listen to though.
Meh, I feel like this could’ve been a lot better, but they left a lot of avenues unexplored and the host wasn’t great.
Tom Brown’s Body - No Spoilers! This miniseries from Texas Monthly (the monthly magazine that produced Boomtown) is about the 2016 strange disappearance of a high school senior from Canadian, Texas named Tom Brown. Apple podcast has 4.7 stars our of five and the show is hosted by well- loved Texas writer Skip Hollandsworth. I was a bit conflicted on doing a recommendation for this podcast but only because of two things. First, the case like many others featured in true crime podcasts is still ongoing. The problem comes from where the podcast ends which is right before what will be a huge part of the story, a grand jury. That’s all I’m going to say because I don’t think it’s too much of a spoiler but a decent warning for what some would consider a deal-breaker. The other issue I had with this pod was how the host seemed to pin people against each other, making an already tense situation openly hostile. One main character will say one thing about a person and the host will turn around and tell that person to see what they say with the back and forth lasting for a good portion of the show only resulting in increasing escalation in each interaction. However, because Tom’s story should still be heard I think you should still check out the podcast albeit with a grain salt when it comes to those involved. It launched and finished in 2020 which means it’s ready to binge with all eight parts being on average 29 minutes long. Music for the pod was by The Avett Brothers and both fit the podcast and held some meaning to the story. Voices were well recorded and overall the production for the show was done in professional quality. Trigger warnings for violence and homophobia.
