Fairy Fistmas I'm

0:20

Fanta Claus Here to

0:23

wish you a fruity

0:25

holiday season on

0:28

the Fantastcast The

0:34

only podcast that pairs

0:36

Fanta Flaws with

0:38

Fanta Soda with

0:40

podcasting That's right,

0:43

it's time to enjoy

0:46

the beverage invented

0:48

by Nazis That's right

0:51

folks, Fanta was invented

0:53

by Nazi Germany because they couldn't get

0:55

access to coke during World War II

0:58

I think or something, I can't remember And

1:03

yeah, Nazis

1:05

love, it's like, you know how,

1:07

hey Kevin, what's up? You know

1:10

how Dr. Pepper 10 was just for men? Yes,

1:14

I remember that Fantas just for

1:16

Nazis Okay, okay And

1:20

pretty soon that might be a

1:22

pretty popular and serviceable ad campaign

1:26

Fanta, it's just for Nazis Yeah Yeah?

1:28

What'd you just, oh yeah, yeah, yeah

1:32

I hear Grok AI is starting

1:34

to promote Fanta these

1:36

days Have you seen, ugh

1:40

I hate talking about this and yet Have

1:43

you seen people getting, like the Nazis

1:45

getting mad about Grok that it's like

1:47

Oh, trans women are women and stuff

1:49

and they're like, what the fuck, you

1:51

know? No, I haven't.

1:54

Is it too low for them? Yeah,

1:57

it is. I mean, you

1:59

know Because you get access

2:01

to grok AI the Twitter AI

2:06

By Paying money. I don't

2:09

think it's just like a free-to-use thing So

2:12

of course the only people who can afford it

2:14

Well, that's not how you put that the

2:16

only people who have paid for it are

2:19

Nazis And so they're fucking around

2:21

with with it and they're being like, you

2:24

know what's up and of course they're just

2:26

training it on whatever data like a bunch

2:28

of data and So I

2:31

guess you know the overwhelming

2:33

Majority is just the general

2:35

consensus opinions that most

2:37

of us, you know abide by and

2:40

so it's making them furious Which

2:42

is pretty funny. You're like shelling

2:44

out for You know

2:48

And not see AI and then they're like

2:50

this Nazi AI is too woke, you know

2:54

I mean it is hard to control AI at the best of times

2:56

so I can kind of see how that would happen Yeah

2:59

for sure I wonder how much

3:01

of it they're going because like a big thing

3:03

with open AI is they just kind of do

3:06

essentially hot fixes Where

3:09

I think how it works is it's like it's

3:11

about to generate some response and then it goes

3:13

through some flow chart That's like wait, don't do

3:15

that use this Mostly

3:17

pre-written response instead or something, you know,

3:19

and then it says like, you know,

3:21

whatever So I wonder like

3:24

how many like Nazi hot fixes they're gonna

3:26

have to add to like make it Sufficiently

3:31

there's got to be a word for not woke

3:33

like slept sufficiently slept

3:36

sufficiently Sufficiently Jesus

3:39

Christ, you're right Kevin. It's

3:41

gonna be a bad show. I think we should

3:43

lean into the bad show angle This

3:45

is the bad show episode. What do you think

3:47

about that? I I

3:50

Okay, this is gonna be the worst episode

3:52

we ever had no, no,

3:54

no, it's just it's it's all about

3:56

bad the bad show That's that's what

3:59

it's about You ever watch any

4:01

bad shows? I'm

4:04

sure I have yeah Like

4:06

are you looking for like just a specific kind

4:08

of thing or like I? Mean

4:12

yeah, we like go on a lady. What's a

4:14

what's a show that's bad and then man that

4:16

show was bad, etc. You know What

4:19

about I hate I hate poking it at

4:21

something. That's just you know, I don't know

4:23

there were so many Let's

4:26

see what's the last bad show that I've

4:28

watched what about beeps Beast Master you ever

4:30

watch Beast Master Yeah, that was

4:32

pretty bad. Yeah, okay. I never watched it, but

4:34

that seems to me like a classic bad show

4:37

I wonder if we had all bet on what

4:39

he would say about Beast Master gotta believe he'd

4:41

like it, right? He

4:44

I'm positive in

4:46

fact, I'm gonna text him right now and

4:48

just ask yes Beast Master. Yeah Okay,

4:51

and also the chat the chat

4:53

if you know any bad shows Maybe

4:57

magically we'll hear you using

5:00

the power of friendship. Oh Boy,

5:05

um, so, you know, whatever

5:08

bad show what

5:10

would be a bad thing like what if we You

5:14

have crispy eyes so this wouldn't work, but what if

5:16

we just made a lot of like crazy noises Just

5:20

like really loud intense noises, you know

5:23

that would make for a bad show That

5:25

would probably make for a pretty bad

5:27

show. I've got to give it up.

5:29

Okay, so chat says yeah Beast Master was terrible There

5:32

we go They're

5:36

posting care bear memes now because you've

5:38

mentioned friendship Two

5:40

and a half years a bad show. What

5:43

about the gummy bears? I never watched

5:45

those shows, but I don't know. Yeah, two and

5:47

two and a half men You

5:50

know, I'm gonna have a good show I'm

5:53

gonna have a good show But it's not

5:55

a bad show Interesting

5:57

show, you know I

6:00

knew people that would watch it and they would genuinely

6:03

laugh and what I would hear

6:05

in my ears is Dialogue

6:07

that sounded like it was written to be

6:09

like a bad show that someone on a

6:11

sitcom was watching if that makes sense, you

6:13

know Okay. Yeah,

6:15

I get that But you know,

6:18

whatever. I don't know, you

6:20

know, I like to watch is Saturday Night Live. I

6:22

like to I Don't

6:25

know nothing. I like watching more

6:27

on Saturday night than Saturday Night Live That's

6:30

what I do with my Saturday night, you know,

6:32

it's a primo spot. It's an important time. It's

6:35

very rare. It's your weekend, you know Got

6:38

it. Just turn on Saturday Night Live. Go

6:40

ahead Okay Like what cast members were were

6:42

big at like it's your Pete SNL

6:45

era like what who was big when you watched

6:47

it and thought this was the best it's ever

6:50

been well You know,

6:52

I'm a terrible liar or a good

6:54

liar. So I never really watched

6:56

Saturday Night Live ever Um, really,

7:00

you know what the worst part about that is I didn't

7:02

know what it was on Okay,

7:07

like I really Like

7:10

I don't know is it on at different times for you like

7:12

what time was it on in your time zone? And

7:15

30 here, but I think it was 11 30 for you guys

7:17

Yeah, I was always that was my guess is that was like

7:19

11 11 30. I would actually still 11 But

7:23

yeah, I don't know and that's what I know now

7:25

like in the past I wouldn't have been able to

7:27

tell you and you and also

7:29

I didn't know what channel it was

7:31

on. So People

7:34

would always be talking about SNL in school and

7:37

I'd be like, I don't know where to

7:39

watch this show I don't know what

7:41

channel it's on. I don't and I never

7:43

asked. I don't know why I never asked That doesn't

7:45

seem I probably could have asked like

7:48

my parents or my brothers or something. Not that they

7:50

watched it Also, we didn't have all

7:52

the channels for a good chunk of my life. We

7:54

had like I Guess

7:57

it's called basic cable. I think there's some amount

7:59

of channels channels you get around here or

8:01

there used to be without having to pay

8:03

any money. So I think we

8:05

had that. It was basically like the

8:08

first 20 channels, like one through 20 or

8:10

something like that, which is not, a lot

8:13

of those didn't even have anything. But

8:16

so I didn't, everyone was talking about

8:18

SNL and I was like, I don't know what anyone's talking

8:20

about. And it caused

8:22

resentment. But the

8:24

one thing we did is that

8:26

we had some DVDs that

8:28

were like the, I don't know what the DVDs

8:31

were, it's like the best of with a person.

8:33

And I think we had some best of Chris

8:35

Farley and some best of Will Ferrell. And

8:39

we kept them in our car

8:41

because at some point my parents got a

8:43

van that had a DVD player, a full

8:46

down DVD player. And so we would only

8:48

watch it in the fucking van.

8:53

But those were good. I liked

8:56

those, but they're curated collections.

8:59

So of course that's going to be the good stuff.

9:02

But I don't even know, I couldn't

9:04

even tell you who any of the cast and those ones were.

9:07

So I just. So you enjoyed watching the

9:09

best of, but that never brought to you this feeling

9:11

of like, hey, maybe I should just check the show

9:13

out then if I like this. I

9:16

mean, enjoy is I guess a strong word. I

9:18

feel like they were, they were fine. Like it

9:20

was good. Like, I don't know. When

9:23

I think of watching comedy, I watched a lot of

9:25

Comedy Central and whose line is

9:27

in any way, because at some point we got

9:29

the, you know, again, whatever the basic cable or

9:31

whatever. So we didn't get Comedy Central

9:33

anymore. So like one of the only, and we didn't

9:35

get like any of the cartoon shows or anything, but

9:37

we got ABC Family and whose live,

9:40

whose line would always show up in ABC Family.

9:42

So I watched a lot of that. But

9:45

what channel was fucking SNL on? NBC.

9:49

NBC. So we

9:51

probably would have got that for, for our, or

9:53

whatever our channels that we did get. I

9:56

want to say that was like four or seven back

9:58

then. Oh,

10:02

yes. Yes, it's a bad show.

10:04

And I'm not saying SNL is a bad show, by

10:06

the way. I just uh, I

10:08

do think the idea of like, I don't

10:10

know, Saturday, Friday and Saturday night feel like,

10:13

oh yeah, I'm going to go and do

10:15

stuff. And so the idea of like, I

10:18

don't know, feel like, okay,

10:20

yes, Saturday night time to watch

10:23

SNL. I just think it was kind of weird

10:25

to me. I don't know. But

10:28

yeah, whatever. Well, like for

10:30

me in high school, though, you know, we got

10:32

three channels, and that was it. You

10:34

know, because we live in the middle of nowhere.

10:36

So yeah, you know, you're either watching like Nightline,

10:38

I think was on ABC. CBS always

10:43

had some terrible movie on or it

10:45

was Saturday Night Live, you know, so

10:47

that would be kind of the thing like everybody my

10:50

age, like when I was in high school would watch

10:52

on Saturdays and Monday, we'd all come in and talk

10:54

about, hey, did you watch this? Because that was literally

10:56

like, you were home, you had nothing to do on

10:58

Saturday night. So this was, this was

11:00

it for anybody, you know, that wanted something to do. So

11:02

I think that's why it was more of a, you

11:05

know, especially for people who live in the middle of nothing

11:07

like me, kind of more of a cultural thing. Yeah, maybe.

11:11

What I'm so this is

11:13

so embarrassing. It almost makes me worry. I'm

11:16

gonna have a stroke, but I

11:18

had a brain fart. What did you watch? Live.

11:22

Okay. No, no, that was a

11:24

joke or it wasn't a joke. It was a clever lie. I

11:27

thought you said Saturday Night Live, which

11:31

we'll have to get back. But I

11:33

listened to Conan O'Brien's podcast and a

11:35

lot of times he would say Saturday

11:37

Night Live. And one

11:40

time someone called him on it and he was like, yeah,

11:42

that's what we would say Saturday Night Live. And

11:44

he would have people that

11:46

were on Saturday Night Live on his podcast

11:48

to talk to them. And a couple of

11:50

them did kind of say Saturday Night Live,

11:53

but most of them said Saturday Night Live,

11:55

which is interesting. But

11:57

if you think about it, it's kind of like,

14:00

to get a costume. And so

14:02

I got the Sherlock Holmes

14:04

hat and pipe because

14:07

we were supposed to all get costumes. And in

14:09

fact, only I got a costume. And in fact,

14:12

I only got a hat. It wasn't really a

14:14

costume. But

14:17

so there's this

14:19

mall kind of by my house. And

14:22

the mall has like a Nordstrom.

14:25

And I think it has a Nordstrom at least, I don't

14:27

know. And it

14:30

has, it's kind of

14:32

like a dying mall basically. And

14:34

so in one of the dying places that

14:37

used to be a Bed Bath and Beyond,

14:42

it got overtaken by a spirit Halloween. And

14:44

so that's where I was going to

14:46

get the

14:48

costume. And so I parked

14:51

in the parking structure. I went in through the Nordstrom

14:53

or whatever the fuck it was. Maybe it was a

14:55

Macy's, I don't know. And

14:58

so I'm coming

15:00

down the escalator and I see someone. I

15:07

see someone I know and that

15:09

I did not wanna be seen by. Which

15:13

is a bad position to be in when you're on

15:15

an escalator. You're kind

15:17

of stuck. This person was,

15:20

I should

15:22

have told this story differently. Anyway, but

15:24

this person was maybe 15 feet generously

15:31

from the output of the landing

15:34

per se, the

15:38

landing of the escalator. And

15:40

so I was like,

15:43

I don't know what the fucking do. So

15:47

I kind of, I

15:49

was wearing a mask because I always wear a

15:51

mask when I do anything. COVID

15:53

mask, not like a scream mask or

15:57

something, a

15:59

ghost face. face mask. But I think

16:02

that was good. That was in my favor. But

16:05

I was wearing, you know, the

16:07

red thing that I've worn basically

16:10

since high school, which

16:13

I've known this person since high school and

16:16

my hair is the same and beard's the

16:18

same and my glasses are pretty close, you

16:21

know? So I

16:23

was like, Jesus Christ. So I kind of just turn away

16:25

from them and, you

16:28

know, try not to look or whatever and just

16:30

kind of get

16:34

immediately to cover as fast as I

16:36

could essentially. And then I make like

16:39

this wide arc around

16:41

to try and, you know, get

16:44

somewhere way out of their wine site because

16:46

where they are in the landing of the

16:48

escalator is like, you know, there's, it's the

16:50

intersection of the, the

16:53

horizontal and the vertical kind of walkways

16:56

through the entire store and that's

16:58

where the exits are situated. So like, you

17:01

know, if I'm not ducking through like clothes

17:03

stands or whatever,

17:05

you know, I'm

17:08

just like caught in

17:10

the crossfire of this person's

17:12

eyes. And so

17:16

yeah. And the other thing is one of the first things

17:18

I clocked is she was like talking to, oh, they,

17:21

they was talking to their friends

17:25

who I didn't see, but

17:29

they must've been around. They weren't within

17:31

like immediate viewing distance, but they must've

17:33

probably been within 30, 40 feet. And

17:38

they was directing various

17:40

activities, like kind of

17:43

laying out a plan, so to speak. And so

17:45

knowing this person, I'm like, I

17:48

don't want to see any of this person's friends

17:50

that they might be with or family or whatever.

17:53

And, um, I

17:56

eventually get out of there and I

17:58

go to the Spirit Halloween. pretty

18:01

shell-shocked and

18:04

then when I leave I like

18:06

take like a big circuitous path

18:08

not through the the Nordstrom

18:11

or whatever it was which

18:13

is way it took way longer to get to

18:16

get to my car but I eventually got

18:18

out of there and that's the story

18:20

I would have told on the Halloween

18:22

episode if we weren't engaged in such

18:26

strong discourse with Rob

18:29

Schwab our good friend our

18:32

good friend Rob Schwab isn't

18:34

he such a good friend of ours

18:36

Kevin you would know he went to his

18:38

house I didn't go to

18:41

his house yes you know

18:43

I didn't go to his house that's

18:47

I'm sure you could have come yeah

18:49

yeah no I could have you're

18:51

right I definitely could have come

18:53

interesting no but so apropos

18:57

of nothing I've told the

18:59

story before about how I don't talk to my brother

19:01

because he married this girl I like or

19:03

liked I don't like her anymore it's fine I mean it's

19:05

not fine I'm still pissed but I don't like her anymore

19:09

that was the person I saw and

19:14

it was possible that she was with my

19:16

brother and I was like I don't want

19:18

to fucking I did I don't and I

19:20

don't talk to my brother and so I

19:22

was like I do not want to be

19:24

seen this is this is

19:26

not good I like my

19:31

immediate thought was like I bet

19:33

I could run back up the

19:35

s but

19:38

I was like that's gonna be the

19:40

most eye-catching thing anyone could possibly do

19:43

circumstance you know so

19:45

yeah it ended up working out as

19:47

far as I can tell and that I didn't have to talk

19:49

to anybody but yeah anyway

19:51

that's that story and

19:54

that was bad perfect

19:56

for such a bad show But

20:00

we've been still talked about safety squints What

20:07

else Man, I

20:10

got to delete some of these I kind of I talk about

20:12

stuff and I kind of keep them in my notes for a

20:14

while I have Street Fighter 6

20:17

in my notes, which is a game I played like

20:19

right when it came out Street Fighter 6 is pretty

20:21

great, but I haven't played in a long time I'm

20:24

perfume in my notes Because

20:27

one time I talked about perfume No

20:32

AI lawyer. Do you remember the lawyer

20:35

that used AI? He

20:37

cited like a case that the AI made

20:39

up and he got like I'm pretty sure

20:41

it got disbarred Do you remember that? I

20:43

think so. Yeah, I think that was the end of his career Yeah,

20:47

that's was my note That's

20:49

what I took a note on and that

20:51

happened again actually that happened pretty recently another

20:53

lawyer Got caught in court

20:55

using AI fake precedent I

20:58

don't know that he got fired Yet,

21:02

but yeah, this just

21:04

says circumcision tweets. What

21:06

the fuck could that be referring to? What

21:11

do you think about circumcision Well,

21:15

I remember because you learned how wait no

21:19

No, that was oh, that was the best week.

21:21

Yeah, the best act to me. Yeah. No Yeah,

21:26

no I

21:28

don't know that would be that would be rough if

21:30

someone ripped off your force Scalpel

21:36

Yeah I

21:41

That has to have been sort of along the lines of what you were

21:43

talking about. I don't know. Yeah, what

21:46

do you think about circumcision, huh? I Don't

21:49

know. I kind of feel like we shouldn't be doing

21:51

it You know, it's kind of like a cosmetic procedure

21:53

that we're doing to people who can't consent to it

21:56

Yeah, so I hear you I I

21:59

think circumcision It's still probably fine, but I

22:01

get it. I don't have like a solid argument

22:03

for it I guess actually know the best argument

22:05

I'll make is that That's

22:09

probably the best time to do

22:12

it practically speaking I mean

22:15

that doesn't measure into consent obviously like

22:17

the best time Consensually to do it

22:19

is when they agree to it themselves

22:21

But if you if you imagine a

22:23

person who would opt for a circumcision

22:26

it's way better to do it as like a Blob

22:30

baby than it is to like do it at

22:32

any other point in your life But

22:34

yeah, no, but that's that's not getting into the

22:36

moral argument or anything This

22:39

says internet addiction we had

22:41

we had a you song on we got

22:43

to get you song back We had you

22:45

song on recently and one of the

22:48

things we were going to talk about is internet addiction but we

22:50

never got around to it because We

22:52

were just having such a good time and Oh,

22:55

man, here's here's actually a timely note So

22:59

here's a tick-tock trend that's happening man.

23:01

We should get gas nod to come up with like a

23:03

tick-tock theme song, you know That

23:06

would be good but uh something

23:09

that tick-tock people are saying now is Asking

23:14

if people are acoustic Which

23:17

is you know? Like

23:19

what do you call it a malaprop ism

23:22

of autistic? so How

23:25

it usually goes is someone is using the

23:28

filter there's a lot of these game filters

23:30

on Twitter where you're just playing a game

23:32

and There's people

23:35

playing this game filter. That's

23:37

called like Hot

23:40

lava or something and

23:42

it's a cat and you've got

23:44

to tap the screen really fast to make the cat

23:49

Run away from the lava as the lava is rising

23:52

and it's pretty hard and Lot

23:56

of people have been making posts about that filter

23:58

and they put they do the poll and

24:00

they say, you're actually moving

24:02

the lava. Because a good

24:04

thing, a big thing that people do on TikTok is

24:07

just lie, they just make shit up

24:09

because that gets engagement, because then people go like,

24:11

that's not true. Or

24:13

people get engagement by saying, that is true.

24:16

Here's an example. Did we talk

24:18

about this? Who did I talk about this to? The

24:21

six-fold batteries? Who was this? I think this came

24:23

up a little. I mean, this is a

24:25

long time ago, but we talked about how the

24:27

TikTok really kind of encouraged this perverse incentive of

24:29

like, it doesn't have to be true, it just

24:31

has to be outrageous. Yeah, I

24:34

was talking to someone because it's like, they do

24:36

these fake life hacks. Like, the

24:38

most recent example I saw is like, they

24:41

took a small jelly bean, and

24:43

let's just say put it in salt water. I don't know,

24:45

they put it in something or they did something to it.

24:47

And then they put it in the freezer, and then

24:50

time cut, and then they pull it out of

24:52

the freezer, and it's a giant jelly, gummy

24:55

bear. Because you can buy a giant gummy bear.

24:58

They make those and sell those. And

25:00

so they're saying, if you put

25:02

the gummy bear in salt water or whatever the

25:04

fuck, it'll become a giant gummy bear. And

25:07

so someone will post a video, and then someone

25:09

will stitch that video, which is when you kind

25:11

of retweet a video and add your own video

25:13

onto it, essentially. And so

25:15

they'll do a stitch of that video going,

25:17

like where the video will play, and then

25:20

they'll go, hmm, and stroke their chin. They're

25:22

always stroking their chin in these kinds of

25:24

videos. And then they get a gummy

25:27

bear, put it in salt water, put it in the freezer, and

25:29

then open it up. And then they

25:31

also have a giant gummy bear, as

25:33

if to say, I tried this, and it's

25:35

true. And then someone else

25:38

will stitch that and go, hmm.

25:42

And then they'll get a fucking gummy bear, put it

25:44

in salt water, and turn it into a giant gummy

25:46

bear too. And then like maybe

25:48

four or five iterations in, someone will be like,

25:51

what's up guys, we've been seeing this video on

25:53

the internet, so we're gonna see if this actually

25:55

works. And then they'll do it, and

25:57

it won't work, because it's obviously fake. They'll

26:00

go myth busted or whatever the

26:02

fuck and so that's like five

26:04

separate people like trading making videos

26:06

getting engagement off of one

26:09

person's fake life hack anyway

26:12

So back to the hot lava They'll

26:15

say what they'll do is they'll

26:17

post You actually move

26:19

the hot lava as if to say

26:22

tapping the screen doesn't move the cat

26:24

It actually moves the lava Which

26:27

if you go to test it is not

26:29

true because if you don't touch the screen

26:32

the lava rises and that wouldn't be the

26:34

case if you

26:36

know if you move the lava

26:38

by tapping it and so Someone

26:41

will post this and they'll say tapping

26:43

it actually moves the lava and then

26:45

you'll see like seven comments that all

26:47

say Are you acoustic? And

26:53

that's what's happening on tiktok. All right hit the

26:55

gas not theme Thanks gas not

26:58

for the theme and if you

27:00

want to hear the theme you can

27:02

subscribe to that happens premium Where

27:05

we have all the hottest sound bits

27:09

Okay, Kevin I know

27:11

that you don't like to talk But it's time

27:13

for Kevin to talk because I have to switch

27:15

my computer to plug in power Otherwise

27:18

my computer will turn off Okay.

27:22

All right, so we've lost Spencer. Okay,

27:25

so We mentioned this

27:27

in the last episode. We're uploading video

27:29

episodes of that happens to Spotify now.

27:31

So if you are Watching

27:34

on Spotify or listening on Spotify if you

27:36

just open up the Spotify app, you

27:38

can be watching me and Spencer right now, too Oh, I

27:41

think Spencer's come back now That's

27:43

right. Oh Yeah, so yeah, check

27:45

us out on the Spotify app and just load

27:47

up that happens It's the same way you listen

27:49

to any podcast on there But just open the

27:51

app up and you can be looking at me

27:53

right this second saying this Not

27:56

exciting answer. Yeah, and now you

27:58

could be looking at me right this second But

28:00

that's right. The hope for the Spotify

28:03

video episodes is another, what do

28:07

you call it, marginal? Marginal income

28:10

stream that can be added via

28:12

ads on the video. So

28:15

for example, or not

28:17

for example, so if we do that, we'll

28:19

have to figure out where to insert the

28:22

video ads. So for example,

28:24

you could insert an ad right here. We're

28:26

going to take a quick break. And

28:28

we're back. So that you

28:30

could have just seen a video

28:32

ad hypothetically or not, you know, or

28:36

we'll stop doing the video episodes on

28:38

Spotify because it'll turn out to be

28:40

not worth it. But hey, you know,

28:43

it's interesting. It's all very

28:45

interesting. For

28:49

us more than you guys, but yes. Yeah.

28:51

Well, you know, I don't know. I

28:53

think Spotify, if they start hosting our

28:55

video episodes, that can be a pretty

28:57

reliable place to

28:59

find them. That's not very much hassle. You

29:02

know, you don't have to go to thathappenspod.com

29:04

to find them. And, you

29:07

know, people don't like navigating to websites anymore. Have

29:10

you noticed this? I

29:12

have. Yeah. It's kind of sad that like everyone's

29:15

all moved to sort of these centralized hubs that

29:17

didn't used to have to be there. But it's

29:19

easier for them to be the same, you know,

29:22

I'm kind of just as bad of like,

29:24

oh God, I have to sign up for one more website. Forget

29:26

this. It's not worth it. So I

29:28

get it. I just kind of wish that people would

29:30

be more open to it. Yeah,

29:33

I agree. 100%. Those are

29:35

basically my thoughts exactly. And

29:37

I also don't really navigate to websites so much anymore.

29:40

And I'm like, man, I should do

29:42

that. Like it sucks. But, you know,

29:45

that's life, I guess. Oh,

29:51

and they're calling this. You're going to say

29:53

this is a bad show. Come on. Now

29:55

the energy is weird. Let's

29:57

keep going through my notes. This just says shit with

29:59

six. This says 23andMe data.

30:04

Oh, 23andMe got hacked and a bunch of

30:06

data got stolen

30:08

or some shit. I wonder where I think they're going to

30:10

do that. When I

30:12

heard about that, I was like, I wonder if a

30:14

bunch of Nazis are going to use it to target

30:16

people of specific heritages

30:19

or whatever. This

30:22

isn't even a podcast note.

30:24

This note says, Grounded Animated

30:27

sitcom about a Discord chat.

30:29

I guess it doesn't have to be animated. I

30:31

had the idea for a TV show that's

30:33

like a Discord chat TV show. I don't

30:35

think this is necessarily a great idea, but

30:39

the idea is it's like

30:41

a Discord chat and you'd

30:44

mostly be seeing it on the

30:47

person who's logging

30:49

on to Discord. You'd see them talking

30:51

on the voice chat or something. Maybe

30:53

sometimes you'd see what they're actually doing

30:55

if they're playing a video game or

30:57

watching something. Most of the

30:59

time you'd be on the actual, essentially like the camera

31:01

that we're looking into. It

31:04

would be like that, but then you'd also follow the

31:06

people into their lives a little bit. I

31:09

think Discord chats are probably younger people, so maybe

31:11

a parent comes in and then you follow them

31:13

out of the room to have some sort of

31:16

family interaction or something. I don't know. It

31:18

just seemed like an interesting premise because you could have

31:20

a lot of scattered characters that don't really have a

31:23

lot of shared circumstances other

31:25

than they all log into the Discord

31:27

chat. But so it could be kind

31:29

of like a little bit

31:31

of a, what do you call it, whatever.

31:37

What do you call it when it's like not

31:39

a miniseries, but like a bunch of short stories?

31:45

There's like a word for that. Who cares?

31:49

So I've been kind of

31:51

pissed about television

31:55

because I ostensibly want

31:57

to work in television, but I just started

31:59

to think about it. started being like, man, I'm not like, I'm

32:03

not going hard enough. I got to be like

32:05

trying a lot harder, spending a lot

32:08

more time, writing a lot more, getting

32:10

a lot more notes, just

32:13

doing a lot more. And

32:15

the reason is because a show

32:18

just came out on Netflix called Carol and the

32:20

End of the World, which you got to check

32:22

out. Please check out Carol and the End of

32:24

the World. It's by my friend, Dan Guderman. He

32:26

wrote on Community. He wrote on Rick and Morty.

32:28

He used to write for Eddie Onion. And

32:32

he's a genius. And he

32:34

is, I don't know,

32:38

he's like me in that he's kind of antisocial and

32:40

neurotic a little bit. So I feel like a strong

32:42

kinship with him on that basis, you know. And

32:47

the show Carol and the End of the World

32:49

is I think, I

32:51

think Carol, the main character is like a

32:53

really good representation of

32:55

him, if that makes

32:57

sense, which I think is like a

33:00

really vulnerable and to that and as

33:02

a result, like daring kind of thing

33:04

to do to kind of

33:06

like say, Hey, this character is me. I

33:09

know I'm not, you

33:12

know, Joel McHale, you

33:14

know, but this is who the show's going to

33:16

follow. And the show is going to be about

33:19

how being this person is not

33:22

easy, you know, it's hard to be like

33:24

that in a world of people who aren't

33:26

like that and often don't like people like

33:28

that, you know. And so

33:30

it's about this woman Carol in

33:34

a world where a new

33:36

planet, I think it's called Kepler-7 is

33:39

like going to crash into the earth

33:41

and it's going to end all civilizations.

33:43

So as a result, it's the apocalypse.

33:45

Well, it's not like post-apocalyptic per se,

33:48

but everyone's kind of like, you

33:50

know, trying to embrace the end time and live

33:53

in the moment and all this stuff. And

33:56

she doesn't really want that. Like

33:58

she doesn't want to let loose. She's

34:01

not a person who lets loose. There's

34:03

always these massive rave parties that are

34:05

happening every night all over the place

34:07

because people are like, who fucking cares?

34:10

And she's like, I don't want that.

34:12

I want to do laundry at the laundromat. And

34:16

I definitely identify with that really strongly. And

34:18

so I got to go to a screening.

34:20

He invited me to a screening where

34:22

they watched the first three episodes.

34:25

And yeah, I was just really,

34:27

really blown away. It

34:29

was gorgeous. The music was good.

34:31

It was trippy and strange. It's

34:33

kind of dreamlike and surreal. It

34:37

was really funny. It was depressing. I thought

34:40

it was depressing because I identified so strongly

34:42

with this character. But I don't know. I

34:44

think there's aspects that people will identify. But

34:46

I think a lot of people will be

34:48

like, oh, this is an interesting character. That's

34:51

not how I live my life. Maybe there's

34:53

some relatable aspects to it. But it's not

34:55

like you wouldn't see this and go like,

34:57

oh, that's me. And I felt like that. I was like, man,

34:59

that's me. And to underscore

35:01

that, I was there. I

35:09

know this guy from Rick and Morty and Community.

35:11

I know a lot of people who worked on

35:13

those shows. A good chunk of the people from

35:15

the shows got invited to the screening. So I

35:17

was at the screening. I was seeing a lot

35:19

of people I knew. And I was

35:21

like, I don't want to talk to any of these

35:24

people. I'm kind of nervous and anxious and stuff. And

35:26

so I was avoiding those people. I was seeing them

35:28

all having fun talking to each other, feeling

35:30

like, man, I wish I could

35:32

go talk to them. But at the same time being like,

35:34

I don't want to. It

35:36

felt like a high school reunion or something where you

35:39

see a bunch of people that are way more successful

35:41

than you. And it's like, oh, I'm a piece of

35:43

shit. I fucking hate myself. And

35:45

so it felt really bad. And then

35:48

that's not like what the show was

35:50

about, but it felt very of a

35:52

piece with what the show was about

35:54

emotionally. And so I was

35:56

like, man, this sucks. Like I

35:58

feel so bad. And

36:01

then the show was so good and I was

36:03

like, man, I don't think I could

36:05

ever make a show like this in my

36:07

life. Should I just give

36:10

up? Like should I stop trying to

36:12

like make stuff, Hollywood stuff? And

36:15

so that's how I was feeling for a while.

36:17

And then I was like, well, I should probably

36:19

try a lot harder and try and be a

36:21

lot more assertive and just see where that goes

36:23

before giving up entirely. But yeah,

36:25

I don't know. Like I feel like it made me feel

36:28

like I want to be a lot more serious. You

36:31

know, the writer strike happened and that kind of

36:33

sucked. I mean, you know, it was

36:35

good, but it was bad for the momentum that I, you

36:37

know, basically the whole year was shot in terms of trying

36:39

to get stuff off the ground. And we

36:42

were really hoping to get some stuff off the ground.

36:44

So, you know, and then I don't

36:46

know, I was looking at some scripts that I had written

36:48

and I didn't know when I thought I wrote them, but

36:50

looking at them and seeing the dates, they were like dated

36:52

like 2022. And I was like,

36:55

Jesus Christ, we wrote these a whole year ago.

36:57

What have I been doing this whole fucking year?

36:59

You know, so, and then, you know, now it's

37:01

Christmas is the end of the year. You get

37:04

kind of retrospective. I do at least because my

37:06

life's miserable. I mean, it's not, but it is.

37:08

But you know, I don't, you know, I don't

37:10

talk to my family. I don't,

37:12

uh, I don't anything. I

37:15

have a roommate in an apartment. I was

37:19

working a freelance job that ended, you know,

37:22

just not feeling great. Um, and

37:24

so yeah, so watching the

37:26

show is really depressing. You gotta watch it.

37:28

You gotta watch it. Um, I think it's

37:31

really beautiful. It's really good. It's just like,

37:33

I don't know. It's a show that's hard

37:35

to imagine that they made it because it's

37:37

so, it feels so artful, you know, if

37:40

that makes sense. It's not like,

37:42

it's not like family guy. It's like, yeah.

37:44

Um, it's, it's, it is really

37:46

funny I thought, but it's funny in like

37:49

this awkward way where this character is so

37:52

out of touch with the rest of the world and you

37:54

just kind of sit in that a lot and it's like,

37:56

man, you know, and it's the

37:58

lead is played by Martha And

38:01

the character is very Martha Kelly ask,

38:03

you know And I think it's a really good

38:06

use of her and you really feel her being

38:08

awkward And it's like I bet she's maybe

38:10

kind of awkward in real life, too And I

38:12

don't know it all felt very genuine and

38:14

authentic and really really really good so

38:18

Yeah, it really just got me Spun

38:21

out in a way that I hope will be useful because

38:23

I want to hit the ground running next year and

38:26

really try and get Some

38:29

shit going one of the things

38:31

is we've written scripts we sent to Starburns, but

38:34

Starburns hasn't really been doing anything They

38:37

were in solidarity with the writers not

38:39

doing any development work, which Whatever,

38:43

but they were still making shows so

38:46

they were like Energizing the corporate

38:49

beast that had its boot on the neck

38:51

of the writers and then also

38:53

in solidarity not developing stuff It's not like we were

38:55

gonna pitch anything because I would have been scabbing but

38:58

I don't know whatever It

39:00

was probably fine. It's just but it just

39:02

sucks in my position, you know to be

39:04

like fucking goddamn it You're making money, you

39:07

know, you're making money in Hollywood Despite

39:10

the strike, you know, it's not like

39:13

I'm gonna make money but we got at least like do

39:15

some groundwork So that

39:17

we can position ourselves and then

39:19

you know now it's the holiday shutdown

39:22

So nothing's gonna happen until probably early

39:24

February of next year Ostensibly

39:26

the holiday shutdown of Hollywood ends

39:31

In January, but in

39:33

practice it ends like in February

39:35

halfway through February which sucks it's so weird

39:37

because Basically

39:41

From like the first week of

39:43

November to like the

39:46

first week of February The Executives

39:50

and the Agents

39:52

and stuff all just kind of go

39:54

on vacation all at once So if

39:57

you have stuff in production, you can work on

39:59

stuff. Although If you have to get notes

40:01

from the network, that sometimes slows down. But,

40:04

um, if you're trying

40:06

to get stuff off the ground, it's just like, nope, not going

40:08

to happen, which is weird because we just

40:10

had an extremely long strike. So it's like, Hey,

40:12

maybe like, you know, start

40:14

some stuff up because you

40:17

already killed a whole year of

40:19

development. Um, you know, whatever, whatever.

40:22

But so that's kind of where I'm at right now. Um,

40:25

I feel kind of energized in a good way. I

40:27

feel like a fire has been lit under my ass.

40:29

So hopefully it persists because when I

40:31

felt like this before I like, uh,

40:34

with my partner, we wrote like a

40:37

three pilots in like three months. So

40:39

it's like, we can actually get stuff

40:41

done. Um, it's just,

40:43

we've been in a position where we've had

40:46

to wait on higher powers a lot. And

40:48

that started to get me off recently. Uh,

40:51

what do you think about Hollywood? I

40:54

just don't know how anything gets done. You

40:57

know, it seems

41:00

like, you know, it's a lot of like when things are

41:02

shooting, everyone's just sort of standing there waiting. Things

41:04

take years from when you're finished shooting before

41:07

it's actually in theaters or on TV. Like

41:09

just, I, I, I do not understand how anything

41:12

gets finished. Yeah,

41:14

I think it all bends to the, you

41:16

know, whims of delusional people. I think they're

41:18

what gets stuff done is the power of

41:20

delusion. Because you have

41:22

these people that are or aren't talented,

41:24

but regardless of how talented they are

41:26

or aren't, they think they're the

41:29

hottest shit in the world and they talk like we're

41:31

gonna have a shit in the world and then people

41:33

get really excited and then that starts to move things.

41:35

But you know, so it

41:37

really does feel like delusion powers

41:39

it all. Um, so maybe

41:41

it's time for me to start getting delusional,

41:43

baby. Haha. Yeah. All

41:47

right. But you know what else is

41:49

delusional or isn't delusional? Snacks. That's not

41:52

what we say. We say soda. There's

41:54

no soda. Um, but

41:56

there is snacks. Kevin sent me snacks. Remember

41:58

when he sent me snacks, Well,

42:01

he does. Do

42:09

you let's eat? Oh

42:13

yes. Do you have the snacks? Kevin, do you have to

42:15

go fetch them? They were sitting right next

42:17

to me. Let me grab them here. Kevin

42:19

is fetching the snacks. Kevin

42:21

is fetched the snacks. Kevin's

42:24

moving a plastic bag full of snacks.

42:27

That's interesting. I'm pretty sure the snacks he

42:29

sent me were also in a very

42:31

similar plastic bag. Did

42:33

you get both of those plastic bags at the same

42:36

time, Kevin? I did in

42:38

fact, yeah. Cause I bought so much stuff. I had

42:40

to have like five bags when I left this store.

42:42

Yes. Yeah. That makes sense. Do you want to talk

42:44

about the Spotify episodes again while I get my snacks?

42:48

So Spotify. Wow. Everyone really loves

42:50

Spotify. Uh, no, actually like if

42:52

you guys are enjoying these snacks, they haven't promoted

42:54

us, they ever, they paid for anything. Um,

42:58

but, uh, there's a mall

43:00

in Rosemont, Illinois called Fashion Choice

43:02

Outlets, I think in Chicago. And

43:05

there's a little kiosk there that just sells all of this

43:07

stuff. And, um, it's

43:10

surprisingly cheap and it had a pretty wide range of

43:12

stuff. That's where the stall came from. Yeah.

43:14

And Kevin sent me a pic like of the whole

43:16

stall or what, or whatever. And he

43:18

was like, do you want, which of this

43:20

stuff do you want? And man, that stall

43:22

looked fucking cool. Like, so, you

43:25

know, check it out if you can. I guess. So

43:27

the first ones I grabbed is fried chicken,

43:29

pretz it looks like. So I'm

43:32

going to hold this up to the camera. It says

43:34

pretz in English. The rest of it looks to be

43:36

Japanese and there's a fried

43:38

chicken wings. Uh, it looks like,

43:40

but these look like Pocky without

43:42

chocolate, maybe like a savory Pocky

43:44

situation. So yeah, these look

43:46

just like Pocky. And there's a weird way

43:48

to open them up in the back too. Yeah.

43:51

But it's actually harder than just opening it

43:53

normally. Yeah. It's way worse. Just opening it.

43:56

Okay. Japanese. Go

43:58

ahead. It actually looked. pretty

44:00

decent. The packaging makes

44:02

this look pretty good. It looks like, I

44:05

don't know, fried chicken. Yeah.

44:08

Japanese packaging is

44:11

something that's really above and beyond.

44:13

They put a lot of effort

44:15

into making their packaging really unique.

44:17

Sometimes it's like the way it

44:19

opens is interesting or sometimes the

44:21

box transforms in a way as

44:23

you open it. Pocky itself, when

44:26

you open it, it opens a little bit

44:28

like a pack of cigarettes or something where

44:30

it's meant to reclose itself. That's

44:32

just a big deal with Japanese

44:35

packaging. I remember there was an award.

44:37

There's some Japanese food that

44:39

won an award for a

44:41

banana box. There is

44:45

a bunch of specific stuff about it. One of the

44:48

things is there's a smiling banana that had a bandage.

44:51

It was to represent, some of

44:53

these bananas might be a little

44:55

bit more bruised or something. Not

44:57

most of them, but some of

44:59

them because they'll check to

45:02

make sure the bananas are good, but

45:04

they won't only sell the perfect ones.

45:06

They'll sell ones slight imperfections that aren't

45:09

compromised quality-wise or something. Then they

45:11

had some other stuff. That one

45:13

won an award. I guess

45:15

there's probably American packaging awards or something, but yeah,

45:17

it's just something that carried out a lot. You've

45:20

given this a whiff, Kevin? Yeah,

45:23

it doesn't smell like chicken, I don't think. I

45:25

smell breading more than anything. To me, it smells

45:27

kind of like stale dog food. Yeah,

45:30

it's definitely not a fresh

45:32

smell. Yeah, stale dog

45:35

food and chicken bullion, I would say.

45:38

Yeah. There's

45:40

not much to it. Spencer's tasting

45:42

it. I'm tasting it. I'm

45:45

tasting another one. Kevin's

45:48

tasting it. Yeah,

45:52

I'm housing three. It

45:55

tastes like chicken bullion, I think, or like some kind of like

45:57

chicken soup stock of some kind. It's

46:00

not bad. No, it's

46:02

not bad. There's

46:06

not, it's not like a pretzel level of

46:08

salt, but there is salt in it. And

46:12

I don't know, maybe you have to eat more

46:14

Kevin, but there's definitely a pretty solid kick to

46:16

him, spice wise. It's like

46:18

a big, comes on a bit slow, but it's like a pretty, pretty

46:21

persistent burn. And

46:24

it's like white pepper, maybe kind of. Yeah.

46:27

And I, I like it. I think this is real good. It's

46:31

not real good, but between

46:34

the salt, the pretzel, the

46:36

tiny bit of flavor and the

46:38

burn, it's like, yeah, I could definitely

46:41

eat this whole thing. Yeah,

46:43

I'll finish this one. Sure.

46:45

What are these calorie wise? 831

46:48

kilojoules for 41 grams. What's

46:53

kilojoules in the calories? I always forget. 831

46:57

kg into cow. What

47:04

the fuck? Killajoule,

47:07

not jewel. Kevin

47:10

was right. This is a bad show. It's

47:13

about 200 calories. Okay. 200

47:15

calories. That's not bad. I went

47:17

on a long hike today, so I think I'm under for my calories. But

47:20

these are good. Yeah. All

47:22

right. Should we try the other one now? Cause

47:24

there's two flavors of this. This

47:26

one's supposed to be some kind of like, I don't

47:29

know, meat kebab. It

47:32

looks like steak maybe. Yeah. It

47:35

looks like a red meat kebab. If

47:39

it is Japanese, you would think this is some

47:41

sort of, what do they call it, teppanyaki? Yeah.

47:46

And this one has more of a, do

47:48

you see this back? This back looks completely

47:50

different than the other one. Oh

47:54

wait, maybe not. Oh no. The

47:57

back, the back more emphasizes. So.

48:00

The back of the chicken one, it has this kind

48:02

of like thing that you're supposed to set

48:05

the bag into the box, kind

48:07

of like a holder-y thing for

48:09

it. But the

48:13

thing, the innovation on the back here is

48:16

that it shows like this little satchel, and

48:18

that's where you're supposed to break open the

48:21

thing. So it's not, it's more clear

48:23

than it is in the other one. But

48:26

how does this even work? You're still supposed to get it

48:28

out of the top, and

48:30

then you just set it like, I

48:33

guess it's like a little stand? Let's

48:35

see. Then you fold

48:37

this back, and

48:40

then I think this is how

48:42

it's supposed to situate itself,

48:44

which, this is what

48:46

I was talking about with the Japanese bag. It's like,

48:49

what is this doing for anybody?

48:51

You just set this bag on

48:53

the ground, it's fine. I

48:55

don't know why this is better. But, yeah,

48:59

I don't know. It kind of

49:01

was like a little bit like one of those incense holders,

49:05

where like this stick of incense is kind

49:07

of in a slot, so it's kind of

49:09

at an angle. And that's kind of the

49:11

vibe it's going for if you're listening

49:14

to the podcast and not watching it

49:16

on Spotify video. I've

49:19

already eaten one. So

49:23

this smells like, what

49:25

is that? So this

49:27

smells a lot like a

49:31

curry hotpot. Yeah, it's a

49:33

curry hotpot kind of flavor.

49:35

It smells really

49:37

good. It reminds me

49:40

so much of, there's a

49:42

chain of fondue restaurants called the melting

49:44

pot, and it smells like one of

49:46

their recipes. I'm

49:49

getting like, what is this scent?

49:51

Is it? It

49:54

smells like cumin, I think. Is it

49:56

cumin? Yeah, there's like a sea, yeah, yeah,

49:58

yeah, no it is, it's cumin. Cumin.

50:03

It's like yeah, it's like it's like yeah it is.

50:05

I was like what is the spice? I know I've

50:07

cooked with the spice. I don't have the spice in

50:09

my cabinet but I cook with it and when I

50:12

make beer yeah we use a lot of this. I

50:16

mean yeah I think that's what it is like. Does

50:19

like anybody who's been to the melting pot

50:21

and got in the mojo or mojo or

50:23

whatever it's called thing.

50:26

It is this is all

50:29

this is uncannily like what that smells

50:31

like. Yeah this

50:33

is great too. I like this.

50:37

Yeah I think maybe I like the

50:39

chicken one a little more but either of these are fine

50:41

they're both good. Man

50:46

Japanese knows how to snack. Write

50:50

that down that's episode Japanese

50:53

knows how to

50:55

snack. Jesus Christ.

51:00

All right we got one more Doritos.

51:05

Doritos is a cup style smoked

51:07

cheese. Did the salsa survive too? It's the

51:09

salsa supposed to come with this one. Yeah

51:11

it did but I don't know if I want to fuck with

51:13

salsa. Do you want to just try the salsa? Maybe I will

51:15

if you like it. Alright

51:18

so yeah this is Doritos

51:20

cup style smoked cheese like

51:22

these kind of look like

51:24

long sun chips is

51:26

I guess the best way to describe just look at

51:28

the picture in the package but if these are. Did

51:31

you mention they're S shaped? It's

51:33

like an extruded S. Yeah

51:35

I mean they kind of look sort

51:39

of looks like sun chips

51:42

but thinner and longer. It's

51:44

sort of the shape they've got there.

51:46

They don't look like as S like in

51:49

in reality as they do in the thing

51:51

but you do see like a little S

51:53

design they are extruded. These are from Japan

51:55

these are just supposed to be smoked cheese

51:57

flavored Doritos cup style. Alright,

52:01

so I'm having them. You want to have some

52:04

kind of? Yeah. I mean they smell like nacho

52:08

cheese kind of, you know? Yeah,

52:12

it's definitely a less Mexican take

52:14

on doritos, which

52:17

I think is common. I think in a lot of

52:19

places in the world, they don't do the nacho cheese.

52:21

They just have like a cheddar cheese kind of flavor.

52:24

And this seems a lot like that. I'm not really

52:26

getting a lot of smoke to it. You

52:28

get the corn and it is cheesy. I

52:33

wouldn't say it's super cheesy, you know? I

52:35

think like the nacho

52:37

cheese doritos are probably

52:39

cheesier. Okay, so I've opened

52:41

these just salsa cup. It just smells

52:44

like paste mild salsa. Yeah,

52:47

it's I

52:50

just didn't trust the packaging. I looked at it.

52:52

I was like, this doesn't look right. It wasn't

52:54

the seal wasn't broken or anything, but it just

52:56

kind of looked off to me. Yeah,

53:01

it's just like the most inoffensive

53:03

like, I

53:06

don't know, you sit down at a mess

53:08

in restaurant and they pour a bowl of this in front of

53:10

their free chips,

53:12

they give you a kind of salsa. It's

53:15

fine. It's just nothing

53:17

fantastic. It's nothing. Yeah,

53:19

mine I feel was safe to eat though. I don't

53:22

really like salsa very much. So I think I might

53:24

just skip that. That's

53:26

fine. It's pretty predictable. So

53:32

I'm just crunching right into the fucking mic.

53:37

Kevin also sent us something else, but

53:39

I don't know if we should try it. Maybe

53:41

we should just read an email instead. What do you think, Kevin?

53:44

It's totally up to you. I

53:47

know. I know it

53:50

is. I'm just easy going either

53:52

way. Yeah, you sure

53:54

are still crunching right into

53:56

the fucking mic. this

54:01

new food that Kevin sent I don't think

54:03

of crunch maybe that's

54:05

a pleasure but

54:09

yeah let's skip it we'll

54:12

get to it next time next time

54:14

on that happens that

54:18

will happen we should have

54:20

a segment called that will happen where we make up a

54:22

bunch of stuff that's gonna happen in the next episode you

54:24

know like like a like

54:26

a reel of like scenes

54:29

from the next episode all

54:32

right Kevin I put that down

54:34

don't eat that you

54:36

know that kind of thing I don't know what

54:39

were you gonna say no

54:42

I think that's a fantastic idea like just

54:44

totally yeah fake commercials for stuff that's totally

54:46

not in the next episode yeah

54:49

that is actually a good episode let us know in the chat if you

54:51

think that's a good idea I can't

54:53

talk right Kevin was right everybody Kevin's

54:55

always fucking right oh here's the thing

54:58

so for Christmas since I have no one in my life

55:01

except you I

55:03

buy myself my own Christmas gifts

55:06

what a depressing thing to say out

55:08

loud but

55:13

you know people do this but

55:15

I've been thinking about getting a different mic

55:17

I don't necessarily want a super super expensive

55:19

mic like you have really nice mics and

55:22

stuff I don't really want a crazy mic

55:24

but I would like one that ideally has

55:26

a USB so I can just hard plug

55:28

it in as opposed to like right now

55:30

we go through a focus right scarlet box

55:33

it's a XLR mic which

55:35

isn't bad like I have the setup to do it but

55:37

I was thinking like there might be a nicer condenser

55:41

mic that has USB or

55:43

something you have

55:45

any ideas I'm gonna there's

55:47

there's a lot of like podcasting

55:50

articles that talk about various mics you know

55:52

so it's not like I'm

55:56

fine I am not just switching to a

55:59

kind of cheap Blue

56:01

Yeti microphone. Yeah, just USB

56:03

and it seems to actually do better than the focus right

56:05

I've got So this

56:07

this arm actually this this

56:10

mic arm with the shock mount it

56:12

was a yeti Thing

56:15

and it came with the Yeti mic I

56:19

gave it to Jeff Actually

56:21

get that back to chat from Jeff. He's not

56:23

gonna use it But I

56:25

will say that the Yeti it's a great

56:27

mic and maybe this is problem with all

56:29

condenser mics I'll honestly that I could get

56:31

but it picks up a lot

56:34

of Ambient sound so

56:36

when I would use the Yeti it would pick up

56:38

my road the road sound by the road outside my

56:40

house It would also pick up like anything my roommate

56:43

was doing which this

56:45

mic is not nearly as powerful as

56:47

very directional. So but

56:49

this mic Occasionally can pick up

56:51

sound if it's up all the way, which is

56:53

one of the reasons I tune it down for

56:55

the show So

56:57

I don't know I

56:59

definitely have the Yeti. So if that's the

57:02

solution I can get

57:04

that but uh Yeah,

57:06

I don't know. I was thinking about maybe something else. I

57:09

wonder if that's gonna be a problem with all condenser max What

57:11

do you think? There's

57:13

different patterns that you can get and some even have

57:15

a switchable pattern that you can like, you know It's

57:17

a little switch and it's either just aimed at you

57:19

or it's picking up room noise or anything, too So

57:22

I'm sure we can find you something that's not sound fantastic

57:24

for you and not pick up everything else going on around

57:26

you The Yeti does have that

57:28

actually doesn't it? It has a dial that like

57:31

switches it from card or whatever. Yeah It's the

57:33

least what's the most directional setting on that? Maybe

57:35

I did. I think I always had it on

57:37

cardoid So maybe there's a more directional setting than

57:39

that. That's probably I mean some of them have

57:42

a very very tight Unidirectional

57:44

one but usually cardoid is the one that you

57:46

would want but you have to be very careful

57:48

to send It's very if you're not

57:50

in the sweet spot, too You're just picking up the room noise and

57:53

not you then so you have to really look at where the chart

57:55

is for how it aims it Maybe

57:57

that was usually just there's usually a little dot

58:00

it kind of like flows into like talking to the

58:02

doc. Interesting.

58:05

All right. Um, well, if you have a

58:07

suggestion for what I should get, let me

58:09

know, uh, send

58:11

us an email at that happens pod.com

58:14

or send us an email about something way better

58:17

than that. That doesn't, I think you could beat

58:19

that in terms of subjects for emails. We'll

58:22

check right now because I got emails

58:24

to read. Chris

58:26

writes live happened to

58:28

this soon, but

58:31

me be drinking. I will

58:33

watch. And when you don't, and

58:36

when you don't read my mail, I

58:38

will be angry. Nina

58:41

Hagen Alpcharm is

58:44

who it says it's from, I guess. Although

58:47

again, it says the email name

58:49

was Chris. So

58:51

that's interesting. What do you make of that?

58:56

Um, I

58:58

have no, I mean he hasn't needed Hagen the singer for

59:00

like, what is it? 99 red balloons.

59:04

Uh, let's Google it.

59:07

I think that is. Yeah. Nina Hagen

59:10

is a German singer and songwriter. Okay.

59:12

There you go. It's good to know that she likes

59:14

our, I think she liked, or he hates,

59:17

I don't know. I think Chris wrote this. So

59:19

who knows? Okay. Oh,

59:24

whatever. Thanks Chris. I appreciate the

59:26

email. Sorry you're drunk or

59:29

congratulations for being drunk. You know, either

59:31

way. I'm

59:34

still digesting that a little bit. He'd

59:37

be drinking. He really do

59:39

be drinking. Um, I

59:43

feel like I had a thought based

59:45

on that email that I lost.

59:48

The thought has been lost. Oh,

59:50

did I say that the, the subject

59:52

of this email is Spencer. Can I

59:54

awake? Question mark. So there's

59:57

that too. All

59:59

right. Abraham writes,

1:00:01

hey Spencer and Kevin, I'm writing to tell

1:00:03

you that one of the things I get out of

1:00:05

this podcast, I mean other than I like the dynamic

1:00:08

you two have built, is that I really

1:00:10

like hearing Spencer talk about his struggles with mental health

1:00:12

and the different things he's tried to deal with it.

1:00:15

I've always sympathized a lot with the kind

1:00:17

of trauma and experiences Spencer has put forward,

1:00:19

and I'm in a particularly frail moment right

1:00:22

now, uh oh. He sent

1:00:24

this to us three weeks ago, four

1:00:27

weeks ago. I hope he's okay.

1:00:30

I'm going through a divorce that is putting me

1:00:33

to the limit when it comes to my ability

1:00:35

to handle my negative self-talk and the stagnation that

1:00:37

comes with depression on top of the fact that

1:00:39

all started, on top

1:00:41

of the fact that all started happening after the

1:00:43

company I was working for, completely shut down our

1:00:45

operations and left me unemployed. I

1:00:47

feel like I was handling it well for a little

1:00:49

while there, but I've been really having a really hard

1:00:52

couple days. I'm back job hunting and trying to exercise

1:00:54

but being back in my mom's house almost a thousand

1:00:56

miles away from my children is not really helping. at

1:01:01

least I think I remember that being a thing, so

1:01:03

I'd like to hear his perspective on this. How did

1:01:05

he climb out of that hole? Also for Spencer, what

1:01:08

do you think is the best way to deal with

1:01:10

negative self-talk and stagnation when you don't have a way

1:01:12

to access therapy? Sorry for this long letter, I really

1:01:14

appreciate the podcast and the time you put into it.

1:01:16

I'll take the chance to say that giving D&D with

1:01:19

Kevin another shot could be worth it, maybe just with

1:01:21

different character. I wish you both the best. So

1:01:23

I don't know that Kevin wants to talk

1:01:25

about that, and I probably should have read this email before

1:01:27

reading it a lot. I don't know that I would have

1:01:30

read it if I pre-read it because

1:01:32

I don't want to subject Kevin to any of this,

1:01:34

but I'm just gonna give

1:01:36

a five-second pause in case he wants

1:01:38

to start, otherwise I'm gonna

1:01:40

keep moving on. No,

1:01:43

I mean, we only have six minutes, I don't even know how

1:01:45

to condense this to six minutes, that

1:01:48

it was probably one of the more difficult periods

1:01:50

in my life I went through, because it's like

1:01:53

we were together for over a decade, and

1:01:55

it's really hard to go from having somebody that

1:01:57

you're literally with 24-7 to... probably

1:02:00

not. You know, and that

1:02:02

was a big change for me. And

1:02:04

it's like, you know, we had shared friends and

1:02:06

we had shared pets and we had shared everything.

1:02:08

And separating your

1:02:10

life like that is really hard.

1:02:13

And, you know, it came

1:02:15

down to I had a few friends that knew what was going

1:02:17

on and just

1:02:21

kept me talking to them and checked up on me every

1:02:23

so often and things like that and made things a lot

1:02:25

better. I think

1:02:27

that was a big difference for me. And

1:02:30

I think too, just knowing that like, I wouldn't

1:02:33

be where I am today had I not gone

1:02:35

through all that before too, you know, you kind

1:02:37

of, I think every

1:02:39

relationship you, you know,

1:02:41

unfortunately, for the person you're with, you learn a

1:02:43

lot in a relationship that benefits the next person

1:02:46

you're with. And I think

1:02:48

the harder the breakup is and the, the,

1:02:50

the more painful it is, the bigger

1:02:52

the lesson is that you learn. And, you know,

1:02:57

as much as I'd like to say I'm perfect

1:02:59

and did nothing wrong and everything is great.

1:03:03

I learned a lot from that and I wouldn't be

1:03:05

the first time today if I hadn't gone through that.

1:03:07

So I guess, you know, in that specific part

1:03:10

that you're asking about here, I would say, just

1:03:12

try to stay positive and look for, look for

1:03:15

the people who are helping you look for the

1:03:17

people that are making it better. And then that's

1:03:19

going to be the person you would come after. It's

1:03:21

all over with. Yeah.

1:03:25

That makes sense. That makes

1:03:27

a lot of sense. So

1:03:29

how do you deal with negative self-talk

1:03:31

to the definition? I don't know, man. I'm definitely not

1:03:33

qualified to talk about this sort of stuff. So I

1:03:37

don't know what I'm going to say, but whatever I say, take it

1:03:39

with a real great assault. But I

1:03:42

think meditation is helpful. I

1:03:45

think meditation is really hard and

1:03:47

especially if you're emotionally vulnerable. I think it's

1:03:49

really hard because

1:03:51

negative self-talk can come

1:03:54

when you're mentally

1:03:56

quiet, when you're still, when you're

1:03:58

not thinking. So trying

1:04:01

to meditate can be really

1:04:04

hard because

1:04:07

you'll quiet your mind. And

1:04:09

then the only thing that comes through is you fucking

1:04:11

piece of shit, you got it to force, everything sucks.

1:04:14

So it's like, it's really, really hard.

1:04:17

So I was doing

1:04:19

that EMDR therapy and

1:04:22

that was really helpful for a while. But

1:04:25

towards the end of it, I

1:04:27

was having more strong negative

1:04:29

self talk. And towards

1:04:32

the end of it, I was trying to

1:04:34

do more meditation. I actually started going to

1:04:36

a meditation group, which I

1:04:38

didn't, I only went once and then I got the

1:04:40

new job and the job was always working me every

1:04:42

Monday night. So I couldn't go back, but I wanna

1:04:44

try to go back to that again. But

1:04:48

I went to that and it

1:04:50

was hard because I was just

1:04:53

having really negative thoughts about the situation I

1:04:55

was in. And

1:04:58

then more time passed. That's

1:05:03

the thing is that it's just, on

1:05:05

some level it's about just surviving until

1:05:07

enough time passes to make it feel

1:05:09

better because it doesn't make it go

1:05:11

away, but your brain

1:05:13

and your body have a way of dulling

1:05:16

stuff that's happened longer ago. That's just kind

1:05:18

of how it works. And that

1:05:20

will help on some level. But

1:05:24

I don't know, again, you shouldn't take

1:05:26

my advice, but you can maybe look

1:05:28

into EMDR. On

1:05:31

YouTube, there's videos that talk about

1:05:33

it. There's videos that have like

1:05:35

meditation walkthroughs of EMDR and stuff.

1:05:38

And you can learn how

1:05:40

to do tapping and see if that helps. Some people

1:05:42

it helps, some people it doesn't. I think it really

1:05:44

helped me, at least in the short term. Longer

1:05:46

term, I haven't been tapping like fucking at all

1:05:49

lately. I think I generally feel more

1:05:51

positive now than I did before I

1:05:54

started it. Who's to say if

1:05:56

that was because of the therapy or if it was

1:05:58

just I was in a bad place then? I'm not

1:06:00

in this bad a place now who knows But

1:06:04

it's something got to keep exercising.

1:06:06

I think exercising is the single best thing

1:06:08

I've done for my health. You got

1:06:10

to find something that works I think finding I

1:06:12

think for me hiking is really helpful Because

1:06:15

you're just you're not just it's

1:06:17

not just like a mental game where I wonder if

1:06:19

I could do one more set I wonder if I

1:06:21

can do one more rep. I wonder if I can

1:06:23

go three more minutes on the treadmill It's like I

1:06:26

like hiking on this path Hiking

1:06:28

on this package is getting easier

1:06:30

for me if I see and

1:06:32

feel concrete progress I'll go

1:06:34

up this hill. I feel I could go down to the

1:06:37

hill and go up it again Oh, I

1:06:39

can you know and

1:06:41

just focusing on what your body can do and

1:06:45

Like physical progress that you can see is

1:06:48

I think really helpful to kind

1:06:50

of center and ground yourself a bit Man,

1:06:53

so I've been trying to lose weight. I

1:06:55

did this this magic show

1:06:58

commander at home which I talked about it when

1:07:00

the last episode came out and I

1:07:03

just saw the episode this week a new episode is

1:07:06

gonna come out that I was on and I saw

1:07:08

that episode I was watching it and

1:07:10

man. I was so much fatter than I

1:07:12

am now. It's crazy So like I

1:07:15

mean weight loss is different than just exercise, but

1:07:18

you know being able to like concretely go

1:07:20

like Man, I

1:07:22

can walk up this hill five Times

1:07:24

whereas before I could barely walk up at once

1:07:27

is like something you can kind of reflect on

1:07:29

and feel a bit of pride And so I

1:07:31

really do think exercise is really important to mental health Which

1:07:34

before I was exercising I still felt that was the

1:07:36

case. I just didn't do it, you know so

1:07:40

yeah, and also Abed

1:07:43

says I Love

1:07:47

Beastmaster, so there

1:07:50

you go I Asked

1:07:52

Abed we don't have time but ask Abed anyway

1:07:54

if he likes two and a half men But

1:07:58

anyway, that's our show Uh,

1:08:01

uh, what, what do I, don't, this is my Patreon.

1:08:03

So yeah, this week, Commander at Home, it's a YouTube

1:08:06

channel. Commander at Home is going to have a new

1:08:08

episode that I was on. Um,

1:08:10

I think it's a pretty good episode. It wasn't as

1:08:12

good as the first episode I did, or not the

1:08:14

first, the last episode I did, which is like one

1:08:16

of the best episodes ever, I think, but it's a

1:08:19

really good episode, so check that out. Um, you

1:08:22

know, uh, Discord chat, the

1:08:24

animated series, gonna shoot soon

1:08:26

on Disney Plus

1:08:29

or something. Um, uh,

1:08:31

check out Carol and the End of the World.

1:08:34

It's really, really good. Uh, you got to

1:08:36

check it out. Um, it's a mini

1:08:38

series, so I don't know if there's an option

1:08:40

to make more episodes necessarily, but definitely

1:08:42

check it out regardless. It's awesome. Um,

1:08:47

and, uh, check out Pretz,

1:08:50

the Japanese pretzel snack. Um,

1:08:52

it's in theaters now. Uh,

1:08:55

what about you, Kevin? Um,

1:08:58

that's about it. Just sign up for Spencer's

1:09:00

Patreon and check us out on

1:09:02

showuponvideo.com every Sunday night. No, don't

1:09:05

sign up for my Patreon. Um,

1:09:07

not, not yet at least. I'm

1:09:10

planning something big and

1:09:12

I can't talk about it because of federal regulators. So

1:09:15

until next time, what

1:09:17

did I say about two and a half men? Not

1:09:20

answered yet. Bye everybody.

1:10:01

Thank you.
