I sat down with my amazing flatmate Issi this week to have a really positive conversation all about her journey with ADHD and mental health.

We being the episode by discussing how having ADHD has affected Issi's life in both positive and negative ways throughout her childhood, teenage years and now as a young adult at university. The high level of independent study at university became very difficult for Issi, and it was this which motivated her to begin looking into neurodiversity and in turn led her towards her diagnosis.

Being diagnosed with a mental health disorder or learning disability can be very challenging, but Issi views it as an incredibly positive moment, as it allowed her to begin adapting her methods of study, put coping strategies into place, and practice acceptance.

We also speak about options for ADHD treatment, including medication and therapy, and agree on the importance of finding what works for each of us as unique individuals.

Some of the strategies we explore further include; positive self talk, building restorative habits in the place of toxic behaviours, fostering healthy relationships and mindsets, exercise as a means of self care and being open and honest to build mental health awareness.
