1:24
show, get to talk with my
1:26
friend Carlos Whitaker. Y'all know
1:28
he's a dear friend of mine, you know,
1:30
so much that we thought we'd catch a bus and
1:32
comes the on tour later this year. And
1:35
he's been on the show a few times back on
1:37
episode fifty five, on episode two
1:39
thirty. And he was part of our TSFQ
1:41
and a on prayer and he was one of
1:43
our special guests on that that sounds fun
1:45
tour last year. So you can find
1:47
links to those shows in the show
1:50
notes below. He's the host of the human
1:52
health podcast on that that sounds fun network
1:54
as well. And he's written four books, speaks
1:56
all over the world and rallies his incredibly
1:59
enthusiastic social media community
2:01
to do so many fun and kind things.
2:03
It's unrelated. They're called the instafamilia, and
2:05
we love them. His latest book releases
2:08
tomorrow, it's called How to Human.
2:10
Three ways to share life beyond what distracts
2:12
divides and disconnects us. And you guys
2:14
are absolutely gonna love the book. I cannot
2:16
wait for you to hear how it has come to life.
2:19
We talk about all the things. So here's
2:21
my conversation with one of our favorites and
2:23
my tourmate, Carlos Whitaker. Carlos
2:29
Whitaker. Welcome back. We
2:31
back. Listen, 12345
2:34
episodes. We we're kind of in a
2:36
five fiverr this month. I need to give people it's
2:39
like an S and L. Seriously, can we
2:41
get, like, an award or a flat some baby
2:43
appointment on the wall. We're gonna get on that. Yeah. I
2:45
need to get that's what we should do. We should
2:47
have a yeah. We should have something in here -- Yes.
2:49
-- that tells people who's been out here.
2:51
Absolutely. I'm a father. Great idea.
2:53
And thank you for being patient with us. As you're
2:55
a real life friend of the show and sat here as
2:57
we worked on technology for eighteen minutes.
2:59
Wait. We did that, but also can can
3:01
we go back for just a second to the fact the
3:04
simple fact that I have been on the show five
3:06
times -- Yeah. -- means that you've been doing the show for
3:08
seventeen years. Nine. Yeah.
3:10
Nine years. Yeah. Okay. So they're like,
3:12
wow. That's crazy. I know.
3:14
I know. We are don't you know me? I we are already
3:16
planning fall
3:19
of twenty four to do a ten year -- Nice. -- a
3:21
big ten year thing. Let's go. Sell out the ryman.
3:23
Let's go. I'm in. Oh, maybe I'm in.
3:25
Yeah. Let's do it. Let's do it. Oh,
3:27
that is wanna That is not something okay.
3:29
Alright, everybody. November twenty four.
3:32
Come again. Spell. Taking his face in
3:34
his hands. Like, I'm not sure I'm prepared
3:36
for that. Carlos welcome back. Listen, the
3:38
thing we're gonna start with because everybody knows. Yeah.
3:40
We're going on tour. We are going on tour.
3:43
We we're going on tour. So
3:45
happy. I'm happy to not have to
3:47
keep a secret anymore. I know. Literally,
3:49
like and I mean, I'll be honest. III
3:52
told maybe three people before anyone
3:54
else knew. But I I made sure that
3:56
they did not tell anybody else, but I've been dying
3:58
-- Yeah. -- to tell people so I'm so excited.
4:00
Okay. Now you keep saying you've never toured before,
4:02
but you've toured Well,
4:03
much more than I have. Yes. Listen. When
4:06
I say that, I've never done a
4:08
tour that, is like this where
4:10
I'm the person that people are coming
4:12
for. You see what I'm saying? Yeah. So, like Like,
4:15
this is, like, Carlos and Annie. Like, we're
4:17
on stage together People are
4:19
coming to hear what I have to say. My
4:20
name is on the bill. You know, I've toured a lot,
4:22
but I've toured, like, as I was
4:24
the opening opening opening opening
4:26
opening guy on the Newsboys Tour in two
4:28
thousand and ten. I was
4:29
you know, I've been on tour buses when I've
4:32
spoken for compassion. I've I've
4:34
been at at conferences and but
4:36
I've never
4:37
been, like, the bill. Yeah. So this is
4:39
what I mean. It's like, I don't know.
4:41
It makes me nervous.
4:42
You know? Like, this is
4:44
crazy. So if I was ever gonna do
4:46
it, I may as well make sure I got Annie on
4:48
stage with me. Oh, man. It's gonna be so
4:50
fun. I I'm really honored
4:52
and excited that we get to do this together. I
4:54
feel like so many of our friends
4:56
listening to my show, listen to
4:58
your show. Yep. And then the the part
5:00
that's fun to me in the venn diagram is the parts
5:02
that don't overlap me. Yes. That's gonna
5:04
be so fun when they, like, meet each other.
5:06
Yeah. I mean, it is I mean, who who knows
5:08
if, like, if, like, a that sounds
5:11
fun listener and instafameleon
5:13
member, like -- My god. -- fallen love. Oh
5:16
my god. Oh my god. Oh my gosh. How are we gonna do this?
5:18
We're gonna have to at some point get every
5:20
night to be like, sit straight if you're not
5:22
married. And everybody look around.
5:24
Yeah. And at the end of the night -- Let's do
5:26
it. -- introduce yourself to someone.
5:28
Because I am. I'm putting I'm putting
5:30
it out on the on the fam, on the Instagram.
5:32
That I listen, I know I got a lot
5:34
of female followers in the
5:36
instafamlia. I see the demographics.
5:38
Yeah. But I got dudes and dudes, I need
5:40
you to hear me. I need you to come to these
5:42
shows. Oh, yeah. This is family. This
5:44
is couples. Let's go. Date night.
5:46
Like, we're all in. Yes. Yes. Yes. Okay. What is
5:48
our rule about kids? I actually don't know if we
5:50
decide way
5:51
whether yeah. I don't know. We should probably
5:54
Is there a is have you had kid rules
5:55
before? Yeah. Because there are times where
5:58
because of the time of the show, it's too
6:00
late. Yep. Yeah. And that if
6:02
we want to have a conversation -- That are
6:04
not safe. That are not yours. --
6:06
and a six year old doesn't necessarily need to
6:08
hear that. Yep. So we we'll keep all updated
6:10
on what the Yeah. I am maybe a little bit
6:12
more p g thirteen than you are when it comes
6:14
to what things I say sometimes you get you.
6:16
Yeah. Yeah. That's about a little a
6:18
little mini BFF warning. Yeah.
6:21
Well, I'm really excited. Tell me what I don't know
6:23
about you on a bus. Do you are you a Okay.
6:25
Do you have a favorite bunk? I mean, you're a headliner. You
6:27
get to pick your bunk. I
6:28
know. This is so good. I and I'm on
6:30
buses every year again. Like, so
6:31
I tour and I do have habits and I was
6:34
literally talking to my sunless eye about
6:36
yesterday. I was like,
6:38
low, like, I'm gonna go on, you
6:40
know, this is a big tour. We're doing a few
6:42
weeks Yeah. And he started he
6:44
he's the one that asked me, well, dad, so,
6:46
like, are you gonna are you gonna
6:48
stay up late with everyone on the bus? Because I know you like
6:50
to go to bed early. And I was, like, suddenly, I
6:52
thought, Oh my gosh. Like, what's Annie's
6:54
vibe? What's the what's
6:56
the tour vibe? Am I gonna be
6:58
the grumpy old guy that goes to bed early?
7:00
Like, am I gonna And then I
7:02
started thinking about that stuff. Which yeah.
7:04
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I'm more
7:05
excited. So here's my vibe. Here's my
7:07
tour vibe. I am a early riser
7:09
on tour. Yeah. So you know, I'd
7:11
say when I was touring in my late thirties,
7:14
I I was up till three AM, and I I'd
7:16
sleep till noon. Because I didn't have to be on
7:18
stage till, you know, seven PM. That's right. But
7:20
no, I'm just listen, I'm in the my forty
7:22
ninth year life. Yeah. Like, I I wanna get up. I
7:24
wanna have my my little juice cleanse. I want
7:26
it to go on my little walk. I wanna have my coffee.
7:28
Do all the things. Yeah. And, yeah,
7:31
you know, like, I am I'm
7:33
I'm definitely more introverted than
7:36
probably my instafamilia would
7:38
think that I am. Yeah. But tour like
7:40
recharge most. Recharge most.
7:42
Yeah. So so, like, I you
7:44
know, sometimes people be like, where's Lois
7:46
in? Like, you just just peeking in my in my bunk, and
7:48
I'm I'm there. I'm in a book, you know, whatever
7:50
it is. But when I'm out, like,
7:52
I'm out. Like, like, when I when I'm out the
7:54
out out the bunk, like, I'm out and I'm ready
7:56
to talk and all the things. So and it
7:58
it is I I just can't wait. Like,
8:01
all of those little things hey. Here's the thing. Like,
8:03
I love. Love peanut brinjelly sandwiches.
8:05
Okay. Like, I'm a big fan of peanut butter
8:07
and jelly. You're a wonderful brat. I'm
8:10
just a white brat. Like like, I wanna
8:12
feel like I'm selling I have that you Yeah. Yeah.
8:14
So, like, I love peanut butter, like, sandwiches.
8:16
Yeah. I don't like, when you
8:18
tour, do do you normally have, like, somebody
8:20
that really loves coffee that's into coffee,
8:22
making coffee, or are you like a Keurig
8:24
kinda coffee person on the bus, Annie?
8:27
There's both, usually. And it's because
8:29
we haven't we don't have our crew locked
8:31
down yet, but every tour we've
8:33
had a coffee snob. Oh, yes.
8:35
So I like to be with the coffee snobs
8:37
because either they know where the good coffee
8:39
is in the town we're going
8:39
to. Oh,
8:40
yeah. Or they're they're making their pour over
8:42
in the morning, and I'm just, like, taking up to
8:44
order in. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You know
8:47
That and then I mean, gosh. I
8:49
mean, I don't know, you know, it's
8:51
I'm not a late night person either just so you know. Oh, you're
8:53
sometimes the crew guys are. Yeah. But
8:55
my voice, the only way I shut up
8:57
is if I sleep. Yeah. And so
8:59
they make me I mean, usually tour
9:01
manager, actually, says, hey, you
9:03
have to go get in your book -- Yeah. -- because
9:05
you have to stop talking, so your voice last
9:07
virtual show. Yes. But June tours, you know, what's
9:09
great about June tours is everywhere we're going.
9:11
We can work out outside. Yeah. And we can go on
9:13
walks. That's awesome. And we can go to coffee shops
9:16
and and there's nowhere that we that the
9:18
weather will not I
9:18
mean, unless it's raining. Sure. So Or,
9:21
like,
9:21
a hundred and ten degrees in Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Right. Right.
9:23
Like, our whole last week -- Yeah. -- talking to you Dallas. We're
9:25
looking at you Texas. And
9:27
the interesting will be because there's a
9:29
pre party and a post party -- Yes. -- you'll
9:31
get back to the bus later than I
9:33
would. That's true. And so you'll you'll have
9:35
to unwind that. My problem is I get so,
9:37
I call it, people drunk, meaning --
9:39
Uh-huh. -- that people light me
9:41
up so much that it takes me probably
9:43
ninety minutes to to settle
9:45
down enough to even consider going to sleep because
9:47
I'm so high on the experience of being
9:49
with all these people. Yep. Yep. Yep. Well, I am
9:51
doing a post party. So, like, you you
9:53
people are gonna be able to come hang out with you before, hang out
9:55
with me afterwards. Yeah. Hang out with both of us if they
9:57
want. Yes. Seems to be what
9:58
people are enjoying is that -- Yeah. -- ticket that gets them
10:01
both the pre and the post.
10:02
Yes. Just very fun. It's gonna
10:04
be fun. I mean, I'm just I'm just excited to,
10:06
you know, to do this thing on purpose and
10:08
to and for the Lord to give me
10:10
and you, you very specific a
10:12
very specific assignment -- Yeah. -- for what
10:14
it is we're gonna be diving into
10:16
on those nights. Each
10:17
night. Yeah. Yeah. Just Yeah.
10:19
Yeah, my plan is to prepare.
10:21
And we're I mean, we're gonna prepare an
10:23
excellent show. Absolutely. But also,
10:25
the thing I feel like you and I have
10:27
permission that I'm not sure I've given
10:29
myself permission in past
10:31
tours is what does God have
10:33
tonight? Mhmm. You know, like, what does he
10:35
have tonight? Now I got to do that a little bit with
10:37
the podcast tour -- Right. --
10:39
only because it was a different guest. Yeah. So I
10:40
didn't have to think about it -- Right. -- because
10:43
it was just gonna naturally happen.
10:45
But with you and I, it feels like,
10:47
man, what's the what might the holy
10:49
spirit do -- Yeah. -- if he if
10:51
our preparation meets ability
10:53
-- Mhmm. -- and availability
10:55
to what might he have tonight.
10:58
Even if it's
10:58
just a sentence different. Even if it's
11:00
sentences even if it's you know, the
11:02
community that we're in, every community we're in
11:04
is gonna have different needs to be
11:06
seen. Yeah. Right? Like, everyone's gonna
11:09
they they all have their things that they're
11:11
going through as a collective community.
11:13
Maybe we can lean into that. Yeah. So I'm like, I just feel like
11:16
yes. Every night is set up to --
11:18
Yeah. -- to feel different. So I
11:20
also love going to the movies. If we get to I
11:22
try to take us all to the movies
11:23
once. I like that. Yeah. Okay. Take
11:25
everybody the movies once. Okay. Also,
11:28
I should tell you that two of our three weeks,
11:30
we are Thursday, Friday, Saturday,
11:32
Sunday. Yep. One, we are Wednesday,
11:34
Thursday, Friday, Saturday. Okay. We
11:37
try to and our friends
11:38
listening, you've heard me say this. My goal is when we
11:41
get home that everyone's healthier than when they left --
11:43
Yes. -- emotionally, spiritually, and physically.
11:45
Yep. And so what that means is we aren't we don't
11:47
eat, like, trash. Right. Most
11:48
nights. Yeah. But that last night, every week Okay.
11:51
Let's go. We ain't
11:53
living by rules. We're living by this fear out of the Yes.
11:55
And so so there is I
11:57
mean, we do have post show food, but we try to Yeah.
11:59
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I just don't I
12:00
don't want people to feel bad. No. It's
12:02
also be healthier
12:03
because they were led by
12:05
you and I -- Yes. -- not not
12:07
feel like they suffered.
12:09
Yes. Yes. As best we can. I agree.
12:11
It's gonna be so funny. Be asking me. Great. Okay.
12:13
This week, tomorrow. Tomorrow,
12:15
human releases. Oh, my gosh.
12:18
And I I I've got that I've got
12:20
that day before me. This is Yeah. This
12:22
is book number four in in this genre
12:24
for me and it never it
12:26
never doesn't feel like I feel right now.
12:28
Like I just like Okay?
12:30
Lord, it's it's in your hands. I've
12:32
done everything I can
12:33
do, but it's it's a it's a
12:35
job for me to get there.
12:37
Right? Right. Right. Because
12:39
where are you coming from? Talk about why
12:42
where you're starting the journey that ends
12:44
with
12:44
god. You put books in hand. Yeah. You know what I mean? You start
12:46
the journey with, you know, with writing
12:49
it. Right? Right. So, like, III got
12:51
the message. I I had the title
12:53
before I had the book. Like, I was like, I this
12:55
is what I feel like I'm doing on social
12:57
media every
12:58
day. It's just helping people remember how to
13:00
do this human as well. What you do on your
13:02
podcast too on human health. Yes. Because you're like, this is
13:04
what human
13:04
is like. This is what literally,
13:07
we're sitting here. someone moving the
13:09
grass outside, Craig, your wonderful
13:11
engineer. Like, he literally
13:13
took a chapter out of the book. And he's
13:15
like, we're about to report a cup record a
13:17
podcast and say, And
13:19
he kinda takes some deep breaths and he looks outside
13:22
wondering when they're gonna fish and he's like, thank you for
13:24
doing your job. And I'm like, there
13:26
it is. That is how to so -- Yeah. -- that
13:28
that's that's what it's encompassing. And so I'm
13:30
excited about the message, of course, that I pour
13:32
into the book. And that's my favorite
13:34
part. For me is an off
13:35
Really? Is the
13:36
riding is the riding part? Oh my gosh.
13:38
Oh. Stick me in a in
13:40
a in a I don't care if it's a cop. Shop.
13:42
Yeah. Or it's a hotel I don't care where I am
13:44
on it. My sofa, put the chronicles and
13:46
Narnia's soundtrack in my ears, and
13:48
let me just write both of them. It's
13:50
like my favorite thing. And then
13:52
when I turn it in, it
13:55
becomes a horror so far. I
13:57
guess. It it's
13:59
just like way way way this is all in
14:01
me. And now it's and now what
14:03
happens is everybody starts telling you their
14:05
opinion because you've got you've got a That's
14:07
that's terrible. So then they're
14:09
editing, and then you're you're
14:11
book reviewing, and then, you know, your launch
14:13
team reviewing, and then you're seeing what somebody
14:15
disappointed with, well, this is just
14:17
his writing style just isn't, you know and
14:19
it's just for me that that's
14:22
I'm way better now. Yeah. But it
14:24
is the it's the scariest, hardest part.
14:26
And I'm getting better So that's
14:28
the journey, right, that that now
14:30
the day before, right, that this book is
14:32
out into the world. I it it
14:34
is a supernatural thing that
14:36
has to happen inside of me because the
14:38
natural will never allow me
14:40
to just kinda, you know, brush
14:42
it off. I don't care how much therapy I
14:44
go to. It's gotta a supernatural thing. And so
14:46
I'm praying supernaturally, holy
14:48
spirit, allow the
14:50
peace that really passes any understanding
14:53
to really come in. And it it's happened every
14:55
single time. And it's gonna happen this time too. And
14:57
but, you know, just as a creative that puts
14:59
their art into the world, you
15:01
know, it's always nerve wracking. Will you talk about
15:03
that? That's really interesting to therapy
15:05
meeting the holy spirit. Yeah. Because I've heard
15:07
people say I've I've literally
15:09
with my ears. I heard someone
15:11
say, Christian should not lean on therapy.
15:13
They should just lean on scripture. Right. And
15:15
I've heard someone say, cognitive
15:19
behavior is not a spiritual thing. It
15:21
is just change your behavior and
15:23
get your tools, and then you'll be able
15:25
to move forward. There's a ton of therapy that has nothing
15:27
to do outwardly with spiritual
15:29
life though, as Jean Marc Comer taught us everything
15:31
is spiritual formation. Yeah. Where's
15:33
your connection of
15:35
therapy in the holy spirit? Yeah.
15:37
I mean, what
15:39
what holy spirit is just for
15:41
me Twenty four seven. Yeah. So
15:43
when I'm in therapy and with the therapist,
15:46
holy spirit is there. Yeah. When I'm out
15:48
of therapy with without a therapist, holy
15:50
spirit is there. So So therapy is just it's
15:52
a that's in the natural. Yep. And
15:54
so I allow the supernatural
15:56
to impact that. And then the
15:58
natural can also, I believe, impact
16:00
a supernatural. So I believe that when I am in therapy
16:02
with a good therapist, and they're asking me, this
16:04
could be a non Christian therapist -- Yeah. --
16:06
doing some some version of therapy I've never
16:08
heard of. They can ask me a
16:10
question that can lead me supernaturally to a to
16:12
a
16:12
place. I I just believe that they are so important.
16:14
Actually so John Eldridge, I went to this conference
16:16
and he's only
16:17
done with us. John Eldridge. He's
16:19
only done it one time, and I can't believe he's only
16:21
done it once. But luckily, for
16:23
everybody, if you're he's got I'm a member of
16:25
his
16:25
thing. I I don't know. He's got something that you've become
16:27
a a member of his Club
16:29
or whatever. So in case
16:31
they're like Join the trial. I'll just stop drinking. Yes.
16:33
So I'm like Fan Club. Yeah.
16:34
I mean, maybe it's Fan Club, but you get you get
16:37
access.
16:37
Fits you and me. That's right. get access to all
16:39
of his conferences that's that he's ever put
16:41
on before, so you can listen to them. Oh. And
16:43
there's one conference that I actually
16:45
flew to Denver or no to Colorado
16:47
Springs -- Yeah. -- and it was John Eldridge
16:49
and Dan Allender together -- Got it. --
16:51
on stage. And so you've got this you've
16:53
like, clinical psychologist.
16:55
And so, like, in the room, it was
16:57
fascinating. In the room, and John came out the very
16:59
first day and said, okay, now listen. There's
17:02
two types of people in the room. There's my
17:04
inner healing prayer people. You guys are
17:06
here and because they came to learn that part from
17:08
John. Yes. Then you you've got
17:10
your clinical psychology, you guys are in the room. You've
17:12
come to hear hear from Dan. We're gonna
17:14
figure out how to do this together. Wow. And and
17:16
it was, like, the greatest three days for
17:18
me. Yes. Of understanding and learning
17:20
how the two things go together. Yes. So
17:22
I can't remember what the name of the conference is. You can it's
17:24
on his in the fan
17:26
club. You can go find it. But Lilian
17:28
will help that. Yes. Okay. But but
17:30
Challenges now on. Yes. So
17:32
so anyway, all that to say, like, I
17:35
just believe both are very very important. And I'm
17:37
I'm always gonna press
17:39
people to go to therapy.
17:42
Yeah. And in nerve healing. Like, the go
17:44
to both. And guess what? One
17:46
can maybe give you more healing than the other one. That
17:48
doesn't mean the other one's not just as value. Yeah.
17:50
That's right. Put together. Yes. It's a peanut butter
17:52
and jelly sandwich. You get to decide whether you
17:54
lean heavy on peanut butter or jelly.
17:56
Absolutely. Both of them make the better sandwich.

20:02
Me too. Here's what I know. I will
20:04
not maintain a perfect record of
20:06
doing that, but perfect record is not
20:08
the goal. Being a good friend to myself
20:10
is the goal. And ritual wants us to
20:12
give up on the illusion of perfection and simply focus
20:14
on the small positive steps we can

take. Mitchell knows it's basically impossible

21:14
conversation with Carlos. Do
21:18
you think people who followed Jesus
21:21
should have a therapist who follows Jesus?
21:24
No. Okay. I I don't.
21:26
I I don't the the
21:28
breakthrough because because
21:30
again, if you are getting your
21:33
hopefully, what I what I feel like is is
21:35
weekly spiritual formation from your
21:37
community and church leadership. If you're involved
21:39
in church, in some way shape or form. And and you can have a
21:41
Christian counselor, okay, a lot like
21:43
like counsel. But the reason why I
21:45
say no is this. My biggest
21:47
breakthrough I've ever gotten k?
21:49
Was from a lady named Barb, and
21:52
Barb was in no way she performed
21:54
a Jesus follower. Yeah. And
21:56
through her work and through
21:58
her ability and skill
21:59
set. And honestly, what I believe is a God given
22:02
skill set that maybe she hasn't realized yet.
22:03
Yeah. She was able to allow me to get through a
22:06
breakthrough that I never would have before. If I would have just been
22:08
looking for a Christian therapist, I
22:10
may have gotten a a good
22:10
breakthrough, and that made it happen the same way. Yeah.
22:13
But I know
22:13
that it also happened with her. So -- Yeah. --
22:15
I would say, a, that's part
22:18
a, the answer. Part b, the answer is, I'm
22:20
also very I've
22:22
I've always been very
22:25
aware of and asking holy spirit
22:27
to make sure that the roots of
22:29
something, the root of of isn't
22:31
based in now listen, I'm going all the
22:33
way there, isn't based in something
22:35
Like like, if there's a mode of therapy that
22:37
a non Christian therapist is
22:39
doing, that maybe has some roots and things that have a
22:41
new a g.
22:41
So, yeah, some stuff like that. Yeah. Okay.
22:44
Yeah.
22:44
Yeah. So Like, I'm just not gonna I'm just not gonna do it. Like, I'm just not
22:47
gonna
22:47
touch it. I'm not going to. Just because
22:49
I believe in this new supernatural. I believe
22:51
in spirits. I believe in all of these things
22:54
that Those are real. And I'm just not gonna I'm not gonna
22:56
bite that in the mouth. Yeah. Yeah. So Okay.
22:58
So what does that make you think about the
23:00
Instagram? You are.
23:02
Because there are there are a few people
23:04
I mean, there are really smart people
23:06
who love Jesus that are landing on
23:08
both sides of the
23:11
Instagram started in a demonic way and
23:13
the Instagram didn't. Yeah. And we
23:15
don't actually know. Yeah. Yeah. So when you so
23:17
you don't even you could talk about the Instagram
23:19
Also, in a general sense when we don't
23:21
actually know. Right. What do
23:23
we do? Right. Right. Okay.
23:25
So we'll start there. When we don't actually
23:28
know, have access to ask
23:30
god. We literally have access to What is
23:32
right for you? What is who is Am
23:34
I supposed to do this? Yeah. not supposed
23:36
to do this? So, yeah, when it comes to the
23:38
enneagram, you know, I mean, there there was a
23:40
few weeks ago, there was there was a a little
23:42
to do for twenty four hours about somebody
23:45
that that talk fossil that filled my d m's.
23:47
Oh, okay. I'm I'm sure I hadn't asked you about that
23:49
yet. But, you know, and and and the
23:51
he he he was a crazy
23:52
thing. Is that the Kirk
23:55
what did you call it? Fair
23:55
fuffle. Yeah. That thing. That that happened actually came
23:58
from somebody that a lot of people are
24:00
were are very into -- Yeah. -- trust
24:02
a lot. Yes. You know, and
24:04
and was Maybe we're a little shocked. Shelly
24:06
loves Jesus. Yes. Maybe we're a little bit shocked
24:08
at, like, hey, like, this is what I've
24:10
seen and what my research did. So I
24:12
guess, like, when those d m's happened to
24:14
pop into my account as well. Yeah. I
24:16
was like, hey. Listen. Like, don't ever and
24:18
I've actually not answered this. I have a
24:20
whole bunch of questions in inbox and my d m's. Not in my d
24:22
m's. I did a question box. That same day and --
24:24
Yeah. -- all those
24:25
questions. I
24:27
have the answer to you. Yeah. Because III want
24:29
to you know, maybe I will by the time this
24:31
podcast here's, but this is what I this is what I said in
24:33
my answer, what I will say on Instagram
24:35
is that, you know, A,
24:37
I'm careful. A lot of people immediately
24:40
say, I've seen a tool
24:42
really help a lot of people. Yep.
24:44
So it must be good. So
24:46
so immediately, I always say, well, like,
24:49
you you gotta be careful with that. So just
24:51
because something can help somebody else,
24:54
doesn't mean it must be
24:56
good. Very good. Okay. So -- Okay. -- I I think we
24:58
have to say that first. Yes. But then
25:01
secondly, I just want
25:03
everybody to never trust just one
25:05
source and then throw it out. Like,
25:07
if you hear something that makes you question something
25:09
that you believe
25:09
in, hear it. Take it in, and then
25:12
go do your research. Go
25:13
do your study. Right? And so, like, you've you've
25:15
got that's what I did. So I heard her
25:17
say that. And I was like, this is
25:20
very interesting. I went and researched a little bit. And then
25:22
a gospel for Anagram or somebody who
25:24
called me. A great response. Yep. It was
25:26
it was actually just even the way he worded
25:28
it. He was so generous. So
25:30
generous. And and then I heard that. And I was like,
25:32
oh, so I'm gonna research a little bit more.
25:34
I called him because of that. Me too. I hadn't listened
25:36
to him before and didn't know he was. And I thought,
25:38
this is so beautifully, politely --
25:40
Yes. -- thoughtfully
25:41
done. Yes. Then I went to
25:43
my pastor -- Yeah. -- and who
25:47
actually maybe leans a little bit more
25:49
towards the first person -- Yeah. -- that was because
25:51
I've kinda known that already about about
25:53
their their thoughts of it. And so what does
25:55
that do that inform me a lot more. Yeah. And I
25:57
just think that's so important for us to
25:59
just because you love something and you've seen
26:01
it help. A lot of people doesn't mean
26:04
that you can't be like, I wonder if
26:06
this maybe I should look into this a little
26:08
bit more. You know? Because here's the other thing. When
26:10
that came out like a lot of people Like, they're they've
26:12
in the last three years based their
26:14
entire careers -- Yes. --
26:16
around Instagram. Yes. So it's like,
26:19
well, I think that's
26:21
probably gonna be scary for
26:23
some people to think like, well, or suddenly Christians
26:25
is gonna cancel the Instagram because, you
26:27
know, megatron told somebody
26:29
to start whatever And so it's like,
26:31
yeah, listen. Hear those things. Do
26:34
your research. Ask holy spirit
26:36
to guide you with it. Yeah. And then make
26:38
make the decision for you. Yeah. Same thing
26:40
with yoga. Same thing with people that do
26:42
yoga. It's like, okay. You know, we can
26:44
do the research. You can see things are based in certain
26:46
ways. You know, I know Christians that
26:48
just won't do it because of where came
26:50
from. I know Christians that do Christian
26:52
versions of yoga. Yep. And so it's like,
26:54
okay. These are two people that have landed on two different
26:56
areas. Yes. It's okay to land in those
26:58
places. Yes. Just really make sure that you're asking
27:00
Holy Spirit to lead you. Yeah. And and
27:01
trust that you can hear God for
27:04
you. Yes. That's what matters.
27:06
Yeah. A couple people that reached out to me, I got
27:08
to say back, like, I a
27:10
hundred percent believe you've heard God for
27:12
you. Yeah. I have a friend who
27:14
who literally heard God say to her.
27:16
Uh-huh. I'm done with desserts. You're done with
27:18
desserts. Yeah. That does not mean we all stop eating
27:20
desserts. Right. That means for her
27:22
spiritual development --
27:23
Yes. -- and for
27:23
her walk with God, she had to walk
27:26
away from a tool.
27:27
Yes. Right? Yeah. I respect it so much.
27:30
Yeah. But when God tells her to
27:32
walk away from desserts, she's not asking Dairy
27:34
Queen to
27:35
close. Right. Right. Right. It's true. It's true. And
27:37
the yoga is such a good comparison. Well, it
27:39
is. And and also realize this when
27:41
you when things like this happen, because there's gonna
27:43
be more things that you
27:45
you really love
27:45
something. Right? Tell me, it takes for instance. Polarizing
27:48
is popular.
27:48
It it is. You really love something. So people Yes. And
27:51
this happens with individuals that we love and that we
27:53
follow too. Like, you love them for
27:55
everything and then somebody else says
27:57
something horrible about that person and
27:59
maybe brings to light something you never knew
28:01
about that person. Yeah. You
28:03
get to make a decision that point. Okay.
28:06
Holistically, like, III
28:08
followed this person for years
28:10
I've seen everything about that person for
28:12
years, holistically. This person comes along
28:14
and for twenty four hours says something
28:18
that maybe made me think, you know, oh, there's
28:20
something different here, but guess what? The person
28:22
that talked about the Instagram, that
28:24
that that is not They're they haven't
28:26
talked about it since. Yeah. Yeah. They're not gonna talk
28:28
about it. And and suddenly, everyone that loves it is
28:30
still talking about it. Yeah. And it's just, like, remember,
28:32
like like, that that's not
28:35
they they studied it for twenty they literally said for twenty four
28:37
hours. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Guess what? You get a lot more
28:39
You get to
28:40
you get to decide. Yeah. That's right. That's really
28:42
good. I mean, because what we're a,
28:44
what we're doing is what we're about to do on tour. Yeah.
28:46
For
28:46
everybody, you just give us topics and we're gonna do
28:49
this. Yes. And also in
28:51
how to human, you say, be human human
28:53
free human. Yeah. And so part
28:55
of this whole thing, part of following anyone on the
28:57
Internet is like, first of all, you get to be
28:59
a human. Yes. What is right for you? Yep. Then you get
29:01
to see a human. What what Whittaker
29:04
you seeing in this person? And then one of the things we
29:06
get to free them from is our expectation. Yes.
29:08
Come on. Free we get to see them and
29:10
then free them -- Yeah. -- to
29:12
be human. Yeah. That is in our epiphany episode. One of the things
29:14
I thank the friends listening for is letting
29:16
me be a human. Yeah. Yeah. Because I'm like, you
29:18
let me make mistakes let me say
29:20
things sideways and let me fix it --
29:22
Uh-huh. -- as best I can. And you
29:24
aren't asking me to be perfect. You're asking me to
29:26
be a growing human and rightly
29:28
so.
29:28
Yes. Absolutely. I mean, and and that is that
29:30
that's the thing. Right? So it's great. I mean, you have
29:32
to read the book. Be human. See, humans free. Humans. There it
29:34
is. You've got you've got like,
29:36
literally seeing of someone
29:38
else is it's
29:40
what everybody needs more than anything right now is
29:42
to to feel seen. But once they're
29:45
seen, the freedom that that you got any in
29:47
twenty twenty two when when
29:49
you feel like people saw
29:51
you, but then also gave you freedom to be
29:54
you. And to
29:54
make mistakes and me too, like, people saw me and I said
29:56
things sideways and I'm like, oh, that's it. Like, I I
29:59
I've said it. But no. Like, the
30:01
overarching theme of who we are is constantly gonna be like,
30:03
I'm going to continue to grow as a human.
30:06
Yeah. And we're never going to achieve
30:08
all the ultimate humanness was which
30:10
was Jesus. He gets to be our Yeah.
30:12
But not one single person that's listening
30:14
to this podcast right now. Not
30:16
one person is gonna be able to get out of the fact
30:18
that they're gonna say something that
30:21
will cancel them from their maybe
30:23
their friends or a larger group of people were
30:25
all gonna say something at some point.
30:28
Yeah. But But, like, we
30:30
can't be human if we're
30:32
just expecting people to be perfect all the time.
30:34
Yeah. Yeah. And I do it I mean, I feel it
30:36
in me. Right? Where someone that I
30:38
really respect says something I don't agree with, and
30:40
I feel the inclination to be like, well,
30:42
they aren't who I thought they were. Yes. And that's it. It's
30:44
over Game of America. Well, guess what? No one. Is who
30:46
you think they are for starter. Yeah.
30:48
Yeah. And secondly okay. You
30:50
have you know, I followed pastor
30:52
x. For ten years online.
30:54
Yep. And I don't like a Sermoni does.
30:56
Yep. I get to decide, do you wanna
30:58
stick around and see three more sermons and
31:00
see is this a change in
31:03
his belief system -- Right. -- that does not
31:05
match my belief system -- Uh-huh.
31:07
-- or did he say as soon as I don't like?
31:09
Right. Alright. Or did he vote for a president? I
31:11
don't like. Oh, Carlos. How are we gonna
31:13
do this? I'm how are we gonna
31:15
I keep I'm telling you How are
31:17
we gonna have another election? I I survived
31:19
as the church. I I just I I just you
31:22
know how we're gonna do it if
31:24
everybody buys a copy of my book, how to human And
31:27
and and we remember once again what
31:29
we were called to do is the hands and
31:31
feet of Jesus -- Yeah. -- and not make
31:33
a decision off of
31:35
off of what some who somebody votes for
31:37
it. Yeah. Now, I like what you just said.
31:39
Like, if they suddenly if you suddenly
31:41
see a difference, a change of heart
31:43
in the way they treat people and the fruit of
31:45
the spirit beginning to sour in these
31:47
things. Yeah. At that point, you're seeing a
31:49
shift in a change in somebody's ethos.
31:52
But just because they voted for
31:54
somebody -- Yeah. -- does not change who they
31:56
are. It just doesn't You didn't start following them because who they
31:58
voted for? Yeah. Where did you stop? Yeah.
31:59
Here's the problem, is you liked him until you knew.
32:02
Mhmm. Right?
32:04
You love me till you know I voted for Trump or you
32:06
love me till you know I voted for Biden.
32:08
Yeah. And then you suddenly it it
32:10
makes you do this backlog
32:11
of, like, Well, did I actually disagree with
32:14
that? Right. Did I actually disagree with that? Yeah.
32:16
When a portion of the Internet got
32:18
unhappy with me last year -- Yeah. -- I I
32:20
saw a couple of times on Twitter people
32:22
say, Well, I've always thought Annie blah blah blah.
32:24
Or I've been you know what? Yeah. As long as we're
32:26
talking about this, the other thing and I'm like,
32:28
oh, you're just pulling up receipts that
32:30
I didn't know you were holding. Yeah. Yeah. And
32:32
so I'm I'm thoughtful, Carlos, as we're trying
32:34
to you're really actively teaching us
32:37
how to human. Right. How do
32:39
we let go over seats versus the
32:41
because what I hear some of my friends saying back to you
32:43
and me is like, but but we wanna be wise
32:45
and only be informed by voices
32:47
that are wise. Sure. And so if that
32:49
person didn't vote for who I agree with -- Yeah.
32:52
-- then they might not be a good voice for me.
32:54
Yeah. Is that true? I mean, a good voice
32:56
for you in what, in politics
32:59
maybe. But if they've been a
33:01
good voice for you in your life
33:03
in general and then made you a good person before you
33:05
find out who they voted for, yes,
33:07
like, you still follow them, you still learn from
33:09
them, you still you know, I I just
33:11
I've seen it I've seen it happen on my
33:13
own socials. When people found out
33:15
where I leaned Yeah. And I saw a bunch of
33:17
people take off. What the most the
33:20
most beautiful thing for me
33:22
has has been the
33:24
where I've seen them come back. Yeah. Yeah. I've seen it. And they're
33:26
like, you know what, Carlos? Like, I I mean, I
33:28
I can't believe that you did vote for that person.
33:30
And I I had to take
33:32
a aabbatical from Atlas with.
33:35
And you but I've come back and guess what?
33:37
You're you're still the same. You're still the same person.
33:39
And so it's like, okay. For for
33:41
our own sometimes for our own mental health,
33:43
sometimes for our own really,
33:46
like, healing and safety, we do have to take
33:48
a break from some people for some
33:50
time. But just know that because I say it all the time even in the
33:52
book, one of the big things I say is don't
33:54
stand on issues, walk with people. Like, if
33:56
that's like a big statement that
33:58
I a big part of the book. And people are always
34:00
like, well, it's a big part of you. Well, it's a big part of me.
34:02
But people are like, well, what if the person that
34:04
I'm walking with is hurting
34:06
me? What what if like like like like what like
34:08
you don't say you say you don't I say I wanna just with people, the person I'm walking with
34:11
is actively dehumanizing me? Wow.
34:13
Well, okay. Then you don't walk with
34:15
them. Yeah. Right? So, like, I'm
34:17
not going to like, today tomorrow morning, I'm
34:19
not gonna go search for the next
34:21
KKK rally. And as a black man
34:23
in in Nashville, go to that KKK
34:25
on night, and like, guys. I'm ready to walk with you. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. No.
34:28
Because we're gonna be fine. Yeah. No. It's not
34:30
like we have to
34:31
be smart. Not safe. We have
34:34
to be smart and safe with who we are.
34:35
Yes. But I still believe that there's a capacity
34:38
inside of all of us to actually
34:40
do this thing. Because also, the real
34:42
kick in the pants is some
34:44
of those KKK members may go to our
34:46
church. Oh, my they do.
34:48
Not me. They do. And they would
34:50
say to you when I talk to God.
34:52
Mhmm. And that is hard for me. Can I tell
34:55
you a story? Yeah. We're
34:55
just going I just feel like I need to tell you
34:57
this. I don't know if this is for a
34:59
question later, but I was I was preaching this
35:01
message yesterday -- Yeah. -- two days ago --
35:03
Yeah. -- at a
35:03
church in Florida. And so, you know and
35:06
I use the
35:08
Ethiopian Munich as my as
35:10
my as my teaching in a faith based
35:12
school. From
35:12
acts from acts
35:13
You can go read it. Okay. Ask Act chapter
35:15
eight, you got Philip, who's a
35:17
follower of Yeah. And he is told by the spirit to get
35:19
up and go to a road. Right? He goes to a road. Again,
35:21
you're getting a thirty minute survey in in two
35:24
minutes here. But he goes around and
35:26
when he's out the road, he sees an
35:28
Ethiopian UNIC in a
35:30
chariot. Yeah. K? So just so everyone knows
35:32
what that
35:32
means, that is a black castrated man
35:34
that is writing in luxury. Yeah.
35:36
So
35:36
three things that automatically make
35:39
this Ethiopian unique completely different than the crowd that
35:41
Philip would ever hang out with. Yeah. And the
35:44
spirit not only told him to go to the road, but
35:46
then the spirit said go up to the
35:48
cherry. Yeah. So
35:50
my whole message is you gotta go up to the chariot of the people that don't
35:52
look like you think like you love like
35:54
you, vote like you. And then not
35:56
only that, but then when he got
35:59
to the chariot, he had to get in the chariot. Right? So like I I like I
36:01
go I press in. I'm stepping on toes on the
36:03
whole message. I'm like, what's the chariot? You're not you
36:06
gotta go get in
36:08
that chair. Is that a trump or cherry? Is that a Biden cherry? Is that a black lives matter
36:10
cherry? Is that a blue lives matter cherry? What's the cherry
36:12
you gotta get in and you gotta go to it and get in
36:14
it? Right? So like I'm stepping on toes, I'm
36:16
feeling good. Then at the end of the
36:18
service. People are coming up pretty soon. And that does not
36:20
feel good. Okay. We're so
36:22
different. I'm like, I'm hugging. Feeling
36:24
good. Your nose has been dutch.
36:26
I I like I have been giving a gift to step on toes
36:28
and and people want me
36:30
to step on them more. Alright. I don't know what
36:32
that is, but it's it's just it's.
36:34
And so I'm invited into
36:36
that. I'm doing that. Like, people are being
36:38
challenged. And after the
36:40
service, I'm standing
36:42
there. And you know, you got the people that are greeting you in line and this
36:44
this probably like sixty five year old
36:46
white man. This is very important,
36:47
though. I said white man. I don't
36:49
want to say but just keep
36:52
going with
36:52
me. He comes up to me, Annie, and
36:54
I'm still shook by this because it's only
36:56
a few weeks ago. Yeah. He looks
36:58
at me, his lip trembling, and
37:01
he looks so pissed. He looks like he's
37:03
gonna take a shot at
37:04
me. Literally, like, literally, I I've never
37:07
felt like I needed to, like, look to where see
37:09
where the security is. Security is. But I
37:11
did. I turned and made eye contact -- Yeah. -- for the security guy. And
37:13
and it's only because he the man stood
37:15
there for ten seconds
37:18
almost trembling, not saying anything to you.
37:20
And finally, this
37:21
man goes, looks at me and my eyes, and it
37:23
was actually so cute the way he said it. Because the word that I
37:25
use, he said,
37:28
I've been prejudice my whole life. Yeah.
37:30
And this is me coming
37:33
up to your chariot. Can
37:36
I please get in your
37:38
chair? And he opened his
37:40
arms. Oh,
37:42
not
37:43
gonna cry on the
37:45
podcast. Hold on. He
37:47
opened his arms
37:49
And I just embraced
37:52
him. Yeah. And it
37:54
felt like ten minutes. That would have been awkward
37:56
if it was, but it was probably thirty
37:58
seconds. not
38:00
another word was spoken. Wow. He
38:02
let me go look me in the
38:04
eyes, turn around, walked out the back
38:07
door. And that
38:10
is what I'm talking about. That's it. That
38:12
that is it. Did
38:14
did he Did he
38:16
completely change every bit of
38:18
his views? No. Yeah. Did it
38:19
but what did he do? He didn't turn his back on
38:22
his values. Yeah.
38:22
He turned his heart towards me. Yes.
38:24
And and that's the beginning. And that's that's the goal
38:27
it gets in the cherry. And it's
38:29
gonna it's gonna feel impossible
38:32
and guess what? That probably wasn't possible for him because he was sixty five. Yes. But it
38:35
was holy spirit that gave him the strength. Yes. To
38:37
this. So for those of you thinking like, well,
38:39
Carlos, listen, my son or
38:42
my daughter is struggling with this. They their viewpoint of
38:44
everything is completely opposite. Guess what?
38:46
Getting their terrier. Yeah. Yeah. And and
38:48
it's not gonna be through your strength. It's
38:51
gonna be through the power of holy spirit. That is the only
38:53
way we can do it.
38:54
I mean, you you said you'd change your
38:57
heart even if your values don't change.
38:59
But I think what would correct me on this,
39:01
but where your treasure is is where your heart is. Yes. Where
39:03
your treasure is, where your heart is. And so that leads me
39:05
to think that if we turn
39:08
our hearts
39:08
Yeah. Towards this, that our values will at
39:10
some point align. Yes. Absolutely.
39:12
So so we can allow people
39:16
to change their hearts in a way we will never know and see -- Uh-huh.
39:18
-- and hope that we see their values
39:20
line up too. Yes. Absolutely. That's the
39:24
thing, because I'm so scared that as we're going
39:26
toward another election cycle
39:28
that we are gonna because what I think I think
39:30
one thing that has happened is in twenty sixteen, we
39:32
had massive separation --
39:34
Sure. -- all the way up through twenty twenty. Yep.
39:36
And then it felt like people went like, oh, I
39:38
can listen to someone who isn't like me. I'm
39:40
settling my my blood pressure's going
39:42
down. Yep. Or they went forget
39:44
it or not even gonna try. In either way, it got
39:46
calmer. Yes. And my fear is it's
39:48
gonna get un calm
39:49
again. Sure.
39:50
Yeah. And it is. And what do we do when it's our next door neighbor? Or the guy
39:52
or the woman who sits next to us that that
39:54
we have we have our values and
39:56
they are very woke. If we
39:58
don't agree. Yeah. We have our values and they are they are very the
40:01
person next to us is very traditional. Yeah. It
40:03
doesn't agree with anything like
40:06
Yeah. How do we stay friends? Did your friendship start
40:09
with their political view?
40:11
Did did it start there? Why
40:13
would it end there? So I I just I just
40:16
keep having that conversation with myself. That's
40:18
just like If you're
40:18
why did if it didn't start with your
40:21
political view, should
40:22
with you, I hope you think that is a really good question. So
40:24
so just oh, you
40:26
know, I know things are important to us.
40:29
I know that these issues are
40:31
that I've got very is important to me. Yeah.
40:33
I've got a best friend my
40:35
best friend since I was eighteen years old
40:37
-- Yeah. -- twenty twenty. And this is the story
40:39
is in the book. Twenty
40:41
twenty He unfollowed me. He he lives in
40:44
Nashville. He unfollowed me. And I didn't know
40:46
it until we invited him over for dinner a
40:48
couple months into the year, maybe towards the end
40:50
of the year. And I
40:52
realized, why he hasn't texted me? He
40:54
hasn't. And all of a sudden, I was like, oh my
40:56
gosh, he's unfollowed me. I
40:58
know why. Because I I know where he kinda politically lays and where I
41:00
do. And he comes out of my house.
41:02
And super long story
41:04
short, we have the conversation.
41:07
And he tells me, I I am nothing like he
41:10
thought he I'm not who he thought I was.
41:12
I'm not all these things. And now we start to I tell
41:14
him, well, you're not who I thought you
41:16
were. And I was immediately told that because the
41:18
relationship was ending over
41:19
politics. Yeah. And the holy spirit was so loud
41:21
going to stop.
41:24
Stop. Listen. You have rooted for the same thing
41:27
together for a lot of
41:29
same things. The falcons afford
41:31
together. Literally, like, the
41:34
epitome of horribleness. K?
41:36
You've
41:36
rooted
41:36
for together since you were eighteen years old. Yes. You've
41:38
rooted for this together. You've root for all these things
41:41
together. one thing you're not
41:42
rooting for together, and you're gonna end everything with
41:44
this. So I so the next
41:47
day, I
41:48
literally it was it was it was what I needed to do, and I didn't
41:50
know this was what we needed to do to heal our relationship. I
41:52
said, hey, we're not gonna come we're not
41:54
gonna come an agreement on these things. Yeah.
41:58
But do you wanna buy season tickets to Nashville, let's see And every
42:00
week -- Wow. -- or every home
42:02
game, we get to go sit next to
42:05
each other. Yeah. And scream and high fives and root for
42:07
the same --
42:07
Yes. -- sing. Yes. He
42:09
said, yeah. Andy, can
42:11
I tell you? Finding
42:14
something we could root for weekly
42:16
together has healed our
42:18
relationship in
42:19
ways. Wow. What a great idea?
42:21
That, like, that, like, a
42:23
prayer never did. Yeah. You know? Yeah. It it
42:25
just was
42:26
conversation three times. Three times never
42:29
did. You know? And and, yes, we
42:31
are not talking about things that are
42:33
important. But guess what? You're you're not supposed to talk about things that
42:35
are, like, all the time. Every time
42:37
-- Right. Come on.
42:38
-- I got a quick Nashville SC.
42:42
Are y'all did y'all renew your season tickets? I did. Did
42:43
you stay in the sunshine? I did. Oh, you're so
42:46
brave. I did. Listen. Listen. So hot
42:48
over there where
42:50
you guys It's it's hot where we are. We're we're right. We're I'm right
42:52
at midfield, second row, but I feel
42:54
like it's the best -- Australian
42:56
wineries. -- it's the best view for, like, the
42:59
like, a I'm a soccer fan that goes to a game and
43:01
doesn't wanna talk --
43:01
Yes. --
43:02
I just wanna watch the game. So, like, it's basically the
43:04
TV view. So, like, the TV cameras that you
43:06
watch if you watch a soccer game on TV,
43:08
It's that it's that view. Yes. Now the only way I could get view on the
43:10
not sunny side is to pay a few
43:13
thousand more dollars to be in a club
43:15
for a game. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
43:18
It's no joke. It's no joke over there. So That's why I picked that's why we're
43:20
in the end zone. Yes. Because we Did you know when you
43:22
bought tickets, you could move the sun online? I
43:25
did not know that. Yes.
43:27
I did. So one of the girls in our group, there's
43:29
about fifteen of us that bought together. Yeah. And
43:31
one of the girls in our group was,
43:34
like, we have to be down here.
43:36
So we're Well, can I tell you what's what's horrible is I like to I've
43:38
got my system. I I show up to the I
43:40
show up thirty minutes early. I get in thirty minutes
43:42
early, and I buy my first beer.
43:45
And and and I get my home
43:48
style beer brewed here in Nashville and
43:50
I sit there. But if it's a sunny day,
43:52
because then I like to buy my second beer at halftime. Okay. And
43:54
if it's a super hot day, I
43:55
can't do it because I'm literally lit.
43:58
Right. And I'm like, this vial tells me I
44:00
can't be
44:02
this. I like to just enjoy my drink with your dehydrated
44:04
and sweating and so, like, it ruins everything
44:06
when it's sunny. We really had a system
44:08
of, like, thirty minutes early. Yep. And
44:10
I would go because sprite is
44:12
my Oh, dear. There you go. And so I would go get my Sprite
44:15
and those cups are refillable. Yes. And so
44:17
then I am just making
44:20
myself sick with so much
44:21
spray. But now that they let you bring in water bottles, which is brilliant. Yes.
44:23
I love Nashville SCI think it's
44:25
just a spiritual gift for you. I know
44:27
that sounds silly, but It
44:29
is. There it has shifted
44:30
something. That building is something that in
44:33
a hundred years, we're gonna know that that
44:35
building mattered for the
44:36
spirituality of our sin. I I think so. It's it's something I don't know why. I
44:38
think that's weird,
44:39
but Well and shout out to
44:41
to Faffa, our new
44:44
winger. He -- Yeah. -- to who is from Houston. He's gonna score
44:46
more goals than people think. We we become
44:48
friends. I'm gonna put him on your podcast, you
44:51
know. Yes. He loves the He's new to Nashville and
44:53
just moved here. But we yeah. I I've
44:55
Yeah. Until aftermarket aftermarket. And and
44:57
Jack mayor, like, I've developed some
45:00
friendships with by four of the guys
45:02
on the team that are just they're just it's they're
45:04
good dudes and they love the city and
45:06
they're bringing something new to Nashville.
45:08
Right? It's just so far
45:10
and they're healing my relationship with my best friends or keep playing soccer.
45:12
You never know what the thing you're doing -- Yeah. --
45:14
is healing for somebody else. And what people what I remind
45:16
them is you're about to turn fifty.
45:20
I am. So you're doing all of this thinking
45:22
to yourself. You're not the a young man who
45:24
still has a lot of life to decide how you wanna
45:26
be. Exactly. You're like, no, I am an
45:29
middle aged person who is still open to
45:31
change. Oh, yes. And open to conversations. Yes.
45:33
And that's I mean, I find myself being like,
45:35
well, I'm not gonna learn that new technology
45:38
because I've I'm like, hey, you are four. No. No.
45:40
Exactly. Like, I I you know, it's been funny
45:42
because I this year, in
45:44
twenty twenty three,
45:46
I turned fifty weeks. Yes. Which is, know, only it's been crazy
45:48
because, like Was forty when we did the double decker
45:50
bus? Yes. Forty was when we did the double
45:52
decker bus.
45:54
A fun birthday. I had a awesome freaking birthday party double decker bus.
45:56
So all your favorite places in town.
45:58
We went to your counseling office. We
46:01
went to literally took all my
46:02
friends to my therapist. So I was still from
46:04
my forty I can't even believe
46:06
that that happened, but not for fifty.
46:09
You know, here I am, you know,
46:11
and again, like like I just think
46:13
to myself, unless I got, you
46:16
know, who knows? I don't wanna live to be a hundred and ten
46:18
years old. I don't wanna do I don't
46:20
wanna watch everyone die that I I love. So I know that there's probably less life in
46:22
front of me than there is behind me -- Okay.
46:24
-- which for me is like
46:27
I think a lot of people may go through these
46:29
mid life crisis at this point, and
46:31
I am so freaking excited --
46:34
Yeah. -- like about every because here's the
46:36
thing, like, at not until I was forty eight, any, did
46:38
God give me the platform that I
46:40
currently have? Yeah. So I I
46:41
mean, I remember thinking
46:42
at thirty, like, Lord, what what would we do? Even at forty, like,
46:44
I don't I don't know. And then
46:46
suddenly at forty eight. Yeah. Okay. So
46:48
listen to everyone listening to podcasts that's like, I
46:50
don't want to do with my life. I
46:53
don't know. It was at forty eight freaking years
46:55
old was when God finally was, like, here
46:57
it is. And now you're in your suite. But you
46:59
were already doing so much good work
47:01
Oh. For us and for him. So you were
47:03
on a path for
47:04
Vince. One day you go, this is what
47:06
I was before. Yeah. I'm at forty
47:08
eight. So
47:09
here So encourage. Yeah. So here I am doing things going
47:11
on my first, like, headlining tour -- Yeah. --
47:14
with you at fifty. I'm at
47:16
forty
47:16
nine. I'll be forty
47:16
nine when it happens. You know? And so it's
47:19
like, man, the the I'm looking at the next fifteen
47:21
years of my life. It's like, I'm gonna have
47:23
the biggest impact, the
47:26
deepest impact be be more trustworthy,
47:28
wise, like, man, this is a sweet spot. Like,
47:30
now it's time to go. Yeah. I've been just
47:32
getting ready for this
47:34
time. Yes. So
47:35
And you're gonna learn fifty new things. So
47:37
Fifty Spheres. Why is fifty Spheres by
47:40
fifty years? So
47:41
because, a, I've just been in, like,
47:43
Rick Warren, Andy's Stanley Lam for too long. So I was trying to
47:45
think something
47:45
about the ride. Got it. Got it. Got it. Got it. Got it.
47:48
Got it. Like a
47:50
sphere of So, like, what what are these
47:52
spheres that I'm gonna learn? So so I've made a decision that by
47:54
by the time I turn fifty, I wanna learn
47:58
fifty new skills. Yeah. Like
48:00
fifty new things. And I'm not talking about, like, you
48:02
know, it doesn't have these things
48:04
don't have to be massive, but they can't be. They can't be huge.
48:06
But Yeah. So, like, the first thing that I learned to do
48:08
when I decided to do this, was to
48:10
solve a Rubik's cube. I am dying to learn that.
48:12
Maybe I need to learn on tour. I learned how to
48:14
juggle two years ago. Okay. So I learned to solve a Rubik's cube.
48:16
I did it in four minutes and twenty seconds. And that was a month ago.
48:18
And now I'm at one minute and twenty
48:20
seconds. I can solve the Linux cube. And
48:22
my goal is by fifty to solve
48:24
it in under a minute. I need you to let go of once you've learned
48:26
them and move on to the next thing. You've got to
48:29
get fifty figs in ten months. I know. You've
48:31
spent a month getting faster with
48:33
it. That is not how you do that. That's true. Hey, I need your
48:35
help because, like, I am a perfectionist when it comes to these
48:37
things. So yeah. So I'm like, we we
48:40
gotta beehive.
48:42
So like like in the spring, I'm gonna learn a bit to be a beekeeper. Yeah.
48:44
So listen. For some of your listeners, if they've
48:46
got things that that they think
48:49
would be cool. Yes. You know, maybe on tour, I can learn
48:51
some other things. So for our friends listening, if you have
48:53
something quick, you can teach Carlos, like, how
48:55
to juggle -- Yes. -- or
48:57
how to fix something or a an app on the phone
48:59
that he needs. Teach him how to fix. You just
49:01
reach out to us at tell me more at any
49:03
after help dot com. Yes. And tell us what you
49:06
can teach Carlos On one of
49:08
our tour
49:08
cities, we gotta get you twelve. Let's That's
49:10
my goal. I'm gonna get
49:11
you twelve in June. That's amazing. So
49:13
I I love that. So so again, I actually have
49:15
a list of thirty right now I've
49:17
left twenty open on purpose. Okay. So that
49:20
as as you take care of twelve off You can take
49:22
care of twelve over. And by the time I
49:24
I'm fifty years old. I'm gonna know more than I did when I was forty nine.
49:26
That's so pretty excited about that.
49:30
That's awesome. Hey,
49:32
friend. Just taking a quick
49:34
break from this conversation to tell you about another
49:36
one of our amazing partners Rafis.
49:38
Will I be wearing my at
49:41
these point or camo cat sneakers when Carlos and I
49:43
see you at one of our tour stops? Well, the
49:45
only way to know is to find out
49:47
to show up, but I'll go ahead and say
49:49
that the likelihood is high to quite
49:51
high because they're so cute and so comfortable and packed so easily. I mean,
49:53
here's the thing. Here at the beginning of the year, we have
49:55
the perfect opportunity for a little
49:58
footwear refresh. And
50:00
Rafi's chic sustainable shoes help us all bring our
50:02
a game into twenty twenty three. They have
50:04
tons of options for new wardrobe staples. You can
50:06
feel good about wearing from flats to
50:09
loafers to sneakers and more in dozens
50:11
of colors and prints and you gotta watch their
50:13

50:16
launching soon. I got one eye over there. Since they're a hundred percent
50:18
machine washable, you get versatile styles, you
50:20
can wear season after season. Okay. Let's
50:22
be real. Forty one
50:24
thousand five star reviews and
50:26
counting cannot be wrong. Rothery's
50:28
original slip on sneaker won the best slip on
50:30
sneaker from self magazines twenty
50:32
twenty two sneaker awards.
50:34
I love their sneaker awards. I'd
50:36
like to be a presenter at that awards
50:38
show. Is that possible self magazine?
50:41
All of Rothi's products are designed
50:43
with the planet in mind. Y'all know this
50:45

51:10
that the bras we pay our hard earned
51:12
dollars for be supportive? And
51:15
comfortable and available in the sizes we need
51:17
and maybe even a little pretty. I
51:19
think not you guys. And third love
51:21
agrees. Third love's fit years as designing bras
51:23

51:32
the same horror stories, but I do straps
51:34
slipping off your shoulders, showing through your
51:36
clothes. Just plain uncomfortable.
51:38
Third Luvs twenty four seventy t shirt bra
51:40
is my actionable favorite and takes care of all of those issues. I feel
51:42
confident and comfortable and ready
51:44

52:19

52:21

52:23
fun. And now back to up our
52:25
with Carlos. Okay. So for
52:28
our friends listening, they're
52:30
gonna go out and
52:34
get book, get how to human. How can we pray for how to human?
52:36
What would you really want people to
52:37
pray? Yeah. So this book is
52:40
it was written for everybody but not everybody
52:43
ready. Okay? And so some people
52:46
may be ready as they start to
52:48
remake be ready halfway through. Yeah. But I I'm
52:50
asking
52:51
how do human it's it's not a b human c humans
52:53
for humans, isn't a bumper sticker? I mean, it could be.
52:55
Can I help
52:56
you? Yeah. Some but here's the thing. It's
52:59
like it's hard Yeah. And so, you know, I bring up issues
53:01
in the, you know, in the book that may be
53:04
difficult for people to, you know,
53:06
digest. And maybe, Carlos, I don't know if I
53:08
can if I can think about this
53:10
or so the prayer
53:12
is is that when someone picks it
53:14
up, that holy spirit really gets them
53:16
ready to do the
53:18
hard work on seeing people. Because going up to
53:20
chariots, again, that's one thing. Go
53:22
up to the chariot. Okay. I'm in front of
53:24
the chariot that I don't
53:26
agree with. But getting in the chariot.
53:28
Yeah. That that that's what I'm praying. That peep because if people can get in the
53:30
chariot, twenty twenty four
53:32
when the election comes -- Yeah.
53:36
It's gonna be a lot better if we're in each other's chair. Yeah. Okay.
53:38
I'm gonna try really the first thing
53:40
I'm thinking through as I I mean, I've
53:43
I endorsed it. I've read it. Yes. But one of the things
53:45
I'm thinking through is, okay, I need to
53:48
even have a conversation with the
53:50
Lord of who is
53:52
my Ethiopian? Yes. Yes.
53:54
Because -- Yeah. -- such a a
53:56
dated reference. I'm kind of a pollyanna about something
53:58
since I'm kinda
53:59
like, We're okay. Yeah. We're fine. Yeah. But then I'm
54:01
like, no. There's probably people that I don't
54:04
actually even pay attention to the bias in my
54:06
heart. Mhmm. And I need the
54:08
Lord to open my
54:09
eyes, which is -- Oh, that's not a choice. --
54:09
and I go first and look at it for that. Well, you know who is? Who
54:12
is? And so I try to go first. Yeah. I I
54:14
try
54:15
to I told people about my neighbor James and how I have bias. And
54:18
so so just know, we all have it and
54:20
and we can we can all get over it. Yeah. That's right.
54:22
Here's what is we all bring bias as
54:24
this day. Yeah. And so we just
54:26
think about them and just work on them. Yeah. And
54:28
so yeah. Yeah. I love it. Okay. What do we
54:30
not say? Do you wanna make sure we say? I mean, I don't know.
54:32
I think that's it. Go get the books tomorrow. I
54:35
get your tour. Take digits? Yeah. Get get the book. Get tour tickets. I'm
54:37
gonna talk about the book on the tour. Yeah. Bring your
54:39
books if you want to and come tour. I'll sign them.
54:41
Yeah. Yeah. If you if you go to the post
54:43
party, you'll have an opportunity Carlos to sign
54:45
up if you to. buddy. last we always ask -- Yeah. -- because the show
54:47
is called, that sounds fun. Yes. Tell me what
54:49
sounds fun to you. Oh
54:51
my gosh. What sounds fun to me?
54:54
Now that I mean, if we're
54:56
speaking on soccer -- Yes. -- I've been
54:58
really I've been really in the soccer. I I
55:00
mean, listen, that's that's It is my
55:02
it's become my number one favorite sport. It's been
55:04
crazy in the last two years. Well, not when the
55:06
falcons are the falcons. No. I know. That's
55:07
You know, Arthur
55:10
Blankly respect I know. But you are a hearts,
55:12
nature. Let's go.
55:13
So what sounds fun to
55:15
me is, Nationalisty
55:18
having deep playoff run
55:19
-- Yes. -- and the
55:22
US men's national team not being
55:24
steeped in drama twenty four seven. That's that's what
55:26
sounds fun me. I mean, the last time we were
55:28
in the office was a big US soccer drama. We were like, hey, sorry, everybody
55:30
else. We know y'all care, but Carlos
55:32
and I have to process
55:34
what is happening on the US, mid national team. Yes. No. Absolutely. It's it's been
55:37
a lot of job. But, no, I what sounds fun?
55:39
I mean, the MLS season starting in, like, nineteen
55:41
days. So Start so
55:43
sick. Yeah. So that's impressive. I'm so happy when you
55:45
get to our COVID. Well, and what's fun is
55:47
is that it's it's been, like, kinda, COVID ish,
55:50
COVIDy. So, like, the
55:52
schedule's been COVIDy when it comes to MLS, so things have been off as
55:54
far as since our last year,
55:55
our first game was not in February.
55:56
Vegas. So this is the first true,
55:59
like, MLS season again.
56:01
So all the hot days in the stadium, like, are gonna
56:03
be late season as opposed to, like, man.
56:05
Having to suffer. Yes. Yeah.
56:07
So anyway Well, you're gonna live it up
56:09
in February and March. Well, I'm shivering. Yeah.
56:11
That's right. That's insane. I'm trying to get What's up,
56:14
Annie? Yeah. It's a beauty beauty sea. So
56:16
why don't you come out here in the sun? It
56:18
probably will. I'll be like, I need to
56:20
warm. Yeah. I can't wait. I
56:22
was so excited when I saw my season tickets
56:24
that they started in
56:24
February. Yeah. Yeah. I I would love that
56:27
too. A US women play in the
56:29
world up this summer. That's right. Let's go. We have got
56:31
a great year of soccer. Absolutely. Oh, I can't
56:33
wait. Okay. Friends. It's gonna be good. Grab out a
56:35
human. Grab your tickets and get a
56:37
soccer. Let's go. Let me buddy. Thanks for
56:39
doing this so much. I'm so glad we get to tour. Let's go.
56:42
Oh, he is just
56:44
the best, so smart.
56:47
I will and hard about the enneagram and
56:49
yoga and how those two are so I mean, what what
56:51
a great analogy? And man,
56:54

56:56

57:21
fun to one of our friends. Who's listening
57:23
just like you. Okay, Kayla, because the show is called,
57:25
that sounds fun. Tell me what sounds
57:27
fun to you.
57:29
I'm Kayla. I'm from Saint Louis, Missouri, and
57:32
the thing that sounds fun to me
57:34
is starting to plan my church's
57:36
resurrection party. Oh, wow. It's two
57:38
thousand twenty three.
57:40
So our resurrection party, we did this
57:42
we started this probably seven or eight
57:45
years ago. The Sunday after
57:47
East year. We throw a essentially a
57:49
wedding feast to celebrate the resurrection,
57:52
and we it's
57:54
open drink open food, DJ, dance party,
57:56
toast. It is essentially
57:58
a wetting feast. Oh my god. So
58:00
you're planning a wedding reception
58:02
pretty much.
58:04
Yeah. So, Mike, there's no weird the
58:06
drive is gonna show up. Mhmm. Maybe that
58:08
your idea will come as well. One
58:10
could only hope, so we will
58:14
be there Oh, yeah. It's it's it's one of
58:16
my top three favorite
58:18
weekends of the year. I think that's so
58:20
cool. What are you in charge of? Are
58:22
you, like, a committee or a youth
58:24
committee? I'm the committee.
58:26
Girl. Yeah. So I I we
58:28
throw it down. We but it's very easy
58:31
Yeah. So it's it's great. We partner
58:33
with a local brewery that loves Jesus as
58:35
well, and they donate their space to us.
58:37
And so we, yeah, we get after
58:39
it and celebrate to go Okay. So when it happens
58:41
this year, will you tag me a picture so I can
58:43
see it? One hundred percent. Oh, I will take
58:45
my Instagram off of private for you. For
58:48
just a
58:50
minute. Then I'll screen shot. Just you go back and I'll share. Love it.
58:52
Great answer. Thank you, Kayla.
58:54
No
58:55
problem. Thank you. Oh, I
58:57
love it. That's so fun. If you
58:59
need anything else from me, you know, easy to find, any up downs on Instagram,
59:02
Twitter, Facebook. All the places you
59:04
may need me, that is
59:06
how you can find me. And
59:08
I think that's it for me today friends. Go out
59:10
or stay home and do something that sounds fun to you
59:12
and I'll do the same. Today, what
59:14
sounds fun to me? Now this not some fun deal, but that's
59:16
okay because we don't judge our fun. My
59:18
dining room table is a mess. And what
59:20
sounds fun to me today after work is cleaning
59:22
it off. I've got to do it. I can't away. Y'all have a
59:24
great week. We'll see you back here on Thursday with
