1:07

and we are now two hundred

1:09

and seventeen days away from the

1:11

election. It is also primary night.

1:13

voters have gone to the polls

1:16

in several states, including the key

1:18

battleground Wisconsin earlier today, Donald Trump

1:20

campaign there, and then the other

1:22

midwest battleground state of Michigan. He

1:24

won both of them back and

1:26

twenty sixteen and lost them both.

1:28

And Twenty twenty. His message today

1:30

was all about stoking fear and

1:32

anger or an Immigration and Border

1:34

Security. But. His campaign visits com

1:36

as abortion rights move back to

1:38

center stage. On Monday, Florida Supreme

1:40

court issued a ruling as actively

1:42

allowing Florida to ban abortions after

1:44

six weeks of pregnancy. The Florida

1:46

court also ruled that voters will

1:48

now be able to decide on

1:51

whether to expand abortion access in

1:53

November. That means Donald Trump will

1:55

also get to vote on the

1:57

issue in his home state in

1:59

the past. Trump has suggested

2:01

he would support a national ban

2:03

on abortions around fifteen weeks, but

2:06

this afternoon he stayed away from

2:08

specific. For. Surprised

2:10

that of view support the six week abortion

2:12

ban that the for a supreme court just

2:14

about. When

2:22

Bush was arrested. In

2:26

November, abortion right measures could be

2:29

on the ballot in as many

2:31

as eleven states, including Florida and

2:33

Axial is reporting that abortion rights

2:35

have one in every state where

2:37

they had appeared on the ballot

2:39

since Roe V Wade was overturned.

2:41

Now, the Biden campaign is eyeing

2:43

the chance to turn Florida into

2:45

new battleground. Meanwhile, the latest Fox

2:47

News poll says support for legal

2:49

abortion has hit a new heights.

2:51

It shows a record Fifty nine

2:53

percent of Americans believe. That. Abortion

2:56

should be legal in this country.

2:58

With that, let's get smarter with

3:00

the help of a little Samsonite.

3:02

Susan Glasser is here staff writer

3:13

3:15

3:17

Presidential Historian Larry You First, my

3:19

friend, any see is reporting that

3:21

the Biden campaign now sees Florida.

3:24

Florida. Trump's adopted home state

3:26

as winnable. After. The States Supreme

3:28

Court rulings. Do you think they have a chance? here?

3:32

well as april oh sure i'll

3:34

go along with her anything's possible in

3:36

april one will believe it when there's

3:38

church on the barrels it's a major

3:41

tv program but at least opens the

3:43

door to have been i'm sure the

3:45

supply chain pain will be playing lots

3:48

of mind games are above florida will

3:50

see trump people as they should because

3:52

this really is a terrible development for

3:55

trump and the republicans generally not used

3:57

in florida but in all those orders

3:59

states you just mentioned, including maybe

4:02

Arizona and Nevada, two other swimming

4:04

states. And beyond that,

4:06

anything that happens in a mega state

4:09

like Florida, any horror story that

4:11

may be coming forth because of the

4:14

six-week ban beginning in May,

4:16

that's going to be a national story.

4:18

So it's going to affect voters everywhere.

4:21

But Susan, Democrats don't have to

4:23

play mind games when it comes

4:25

to abortion. We have seen abortion

4:27

rates win whenever they are on

4:29

the ballot, post-row being overturned. Describe

4:32

for us how effective this has been for Democrats,

4:34

especially in those red states. Well,

4:37

that's right. You've seen when the actual

4:39

issue of abortion, as opposed to the

4:42

question of a pro or anti-abortion rights

4:44

candidate, that it has been a winning

4:46

thing. Think about a state like Kansas,

4:48

a deep red state, continues to be

4:51

a Republican state, and yet overwhelming response.

4:53

In an August, a hot summer referendum,

4:55

people came out to vote in order

4:57

to reinstate and to protect abortion rights.

4:59

In Florida, though, there's a couple interesting

5:02

points about this. First of all, there's

5:04

a 60 percent threshold

5:07

for this referendum, which is higher than

5:09

some of the other referendums in Ohio,

5:11

for example, recently, where there was a

5:13

victory in another red state for abortion

5:16

rights. It did not pass 60 percent.

5:18

And so if that had been the

5:20

number required in Ohio, it would not

5:22

have passed. Now, arguably,

5:25

there is 60 percent

5:27

support in Florida for this. And

5:29

so they're likely to achieve that,

5:31

and certainly to increase the turnout

5:33

among Democrats and among abortion rights

5:35

supporters in November. So I think

5:37

that's important. But again, I'm with

5:39

Larry. I'm particularly interested in whether

5:41

states that are actual battleground states

5:43

like Arizona and Nevada end up

5:46

having abortion on the ballot this

5:48

fall. I think that's different than

5:50

Florida, which at the moment is

5:52

just sort of a dream for

5:54

Democrats to take back a state

5:56

that really hasn't been possible for them

5:58

in a long time. percent

6:00

victory for Ron DeSantis in the

6:02

last gubernatorial election there. Okay, that

6:04

might be a dream for Democrats,

6:06

but this thing is turning out

6:08

to be a potential nightmare for

6:10

Trump. Charlie, is the problem for

6:12

Trump that the majority

6:14

of the country does not

6:16

want an abortion ban, but

6:18

his strongest, most loyal voting

6:21

bloc are evangelicals who are

6:23

single issue voters and

6:25

it's anti-abortion. This is a

6:27

very complicated issue for Donald Trump. I guess I

6:29

look at this in a different way. Look,

6:32

I think it's a little bit of a wish casting to think that

6:35

Joe Biden is going to win in Florida,

6:37

but this will have national implications because

6:39

Republicans are going to have to take a stand on this

6:41

and Donald Trump is eventually going to have to take a

6:43

stand on it. And here's three numbers to keep in mind.

6:46

The Florida abortion ban is almost

6:48

total. It is six weeks. Republicans,

6:51

including Donald Trump, seem to

6:53

be thinking of a 15

6:56

week national ban, but

6:58

the Florida referendum, which again,

7:00

it's either going to be a complete

7:02

ban or the Florida referendum doesn't put

7:04

a specific number on it. It talks

7:06

about viability, fetal viability, which is about 23

7:09

or 24 weeks. That

7:13

is going to appeal to a lot of

7:15

libertarians, a lot of Republicans. It's going to

7:17

appeal to a lot of moderates. One of

7:19

the things that Republicans want to do is

7:21

flip the script on Democrats and say, well,

7:23

you want late term abortions. You want abortion

7:25

up until the moment of birth. That's

7:28

not what the Florida referendum says.

7:31

So this has the real

7:33

possibility of splitting Republicans on

7:36

this issue. And what happens

7:38

in Florida will play in every

7:40

state. It is a national issue.

7:43

Abortion is going to be on the ballot in all

7:45

50 states, one way or another. And

7:47

Donald Trump, you know, frankly has gone

7:50

out of his way not to let

7:52

himself get pinned down on this. But

7:54

in Florida, he's either going to have

7:56

to go yes or no, either

7:59

a complete ban. at six weeks

8:01

or a much more liberal ban

8:03

that will pull much higher at the

8:06

viability 23 or 24

8:08

weeks that's gonna be tough to see how

8:10

he navigates that. But Susan if

8:12

he does that what happens to this

8:15

die-hard strong base that he has which are

8:17

evangelicals they don't want to hear from a

8:19

50-week ban? I'm

8:22

with you on this I

8:24

think that Donald Trump cannot

8:26

afford to alienate and anger

8:28

this very conservative white evangelical

8:30

base that is the reason

8:32

that he was elected president

8:34

in the first place without

8:36

them you know he's busy pandering to them

8:39

in every which way possible including selling them

8:41

$60 bibles

8:43

right now and there's

8:45

no way that this cynical transactional politician

8:47

can afford to cut loose this part

8:49

of the base and I would also

8:51

say the idea is you

8:53

know kind of preposterous that Donald

8:55

Trump isn't going to somehow be

8:57

accountable for what's happened to reproductive

8:59

rights in this country he is

9:02

the owner it seems to me

9:04

of the decision by the Supreme Court

9:07

to throw out Roe versus Wade Donald

9:09

Trump has been happy to brag about

9:11

his transformation of the Supreme Court he's

9:14

got to own the consequences of that

9:16

and I think politically speaking this is

9:18

a very damaging issue for him in

9:20

November even if the prospect

9:22

of Democrats winning Florida still seems pretty

9:25

remote to me Larry

9:27

Donald Trump and the misinformation

9:29

machine is truly Trump's you

9:32

know secret weapon but maybe

9:34

not when it comes to abortion I want

9:36

you to look at a bit of the

9:38

Biden campaign's new add-out today after the Florida

9:40

decision here's just a piece of

9:44

it for 54 years they were trying to get Roe v Wade

9:47

terminated and I did it and I'm proud to

9:49

have done it in 2016 Donald Trump

9:52

ran to overturn Roe v Wade now in

9:54

2024 he's running to pass a national Ban

9:59

on a. The woman's right to make

10:01

money. They make know we weighed the laws.

10:03

The land again. Sorry.

10:05

I lost. This is Donald. Some can

10:07

push misinformation, he can dodge bullets into

10:10

flats. but is this the won a

10:12

silver since to not. Because. Road

10:14

did get overturned. The bans are happening

10:17

in states across the country so a

10:19

Joe Biden doing the right things in

10:21

going all out and telling this story.

10:24

So. Absolutely. And it has to

10:26

be done day after day after day

10:28

of. the He said there were two

10:31

hundred and seventy days left. so I'd

10:33

suggest that a be done for two

10:35

hundred seventy days of. This is the

10:37

achilles heel, not just for Trump, but

10:39

also for the Republican Party. And Trump

10:42

knows he scored. He has known this

10:44

all on. He's worried about the abortion

10:46

issue because there is no way for

10:48

him to evade responsibility for what has

10:51

happened. She's the one who put those

10:53

three critical Supreme court judges. Or

10:55

justices on the Supreme Court. They're

10:57

the ones who made the difference.

10:59

They are the ones who have

11:01

caused all of this pain and

11:03

and eggs throughout the country. And

11:05

there's gonna be a lot more

11:07

of it because of the six

11:09

week abortion ban and Florida or

11:11

even many people in the in

11:13

the anti abortion movement say six

11:15

weeks is ridiculous. So of a

11:18

real congratulations Be careful what you

11:20

wish for ya gotta, you gotta

11:22

have to live with it. And

11:24

if democrats. Are smart and on this

11:26

issue they are. They're gonna make sure that

11:28

Trump own that morning. Noon and night and

11:30

maybe in the middle the night when he's

11:32

on true social. Says

11:35

a new topic downtown. The on

11:37

the trail is getting Nasir and

11:39

Darfur in his language Around migrants.

11:41

Some people say this kind of

11:43

language is going to backfire on

11:45

hand. We are a country of

11:47

immigrants. Not. Willing to

11:49

use this very dark language back

11:51

and sixteen when he was will

11:53

have to announce that he was

11:55

running and today immigration is a

11:57

bigger issue for voters. Yeah,

12:00

that's right. I mean look the idea that Donald

12:02

Trump is going to face a penalty for bad

12:05

language If that were the

12:07

case, he wouldn't be in politics You

12:10

know, I think somebody counted one of

12:12

his last rallies. He he insulted or

12:14

used epithets nasty words

12:16

for President Biden Something like

12:18

five dozen times, you know,

12:20

that's his political brand is

12:23

insults is racism is

12:25

attacks I think

12:27

the level of hysteria that he's

12:30

seeking to whip up around immigration. This

12:32

is Trump's playbook He he believes that

12:34

this is the reason that he won

12:36

election to the presidency in the first

12:38

place in 2016

12:40

so it's no surprise that he's resorting

12:43

to this once again He'd

12:45

much rather be talking about immigration right

12:47

now than be talking about abortion the

12:49

the subject of the rest of our

12:51

conversation Tonight and there's a reason for

12:53

that politically speaking I think this is

12:55

the biggest signal and and

12:57

and dog whistle to his base

12:59

stuff And I think you're gonna hear a lot

13:01

more of it in the next few months He

13:04

is talking immigration. But again, he's not

13:06

telling the truth in Michigan He

13:09

talked about a woman who was

13:11

tragically murdered authorities there say someone in

13:13

the US illegally Has

13:15

confessed to killing her and I want to share

13:17

what Donald Trump had to say Ruby's

13:21

loved ones and community are left grieving

13:23

for this incredible young

13:25

woman remembering what they Called

13:28

her they said she had just as most contagious

13:30

laughter and when she walked into a room She

13:32

lit up that room and I've heard that from

13:35

so many people. I spoke to some of her

13:37

family But here's the

13:39

thing her own sister who

13:42

is grieving her death Had

13:44

to come out publicly and say that was a

13:46

flat-out lie Donald Trump did not

13:48

speak to any of her family members, but

13:51

the thing is Donald Trump's aversion

13:53

is everywhere I'm probably gonna hear

13:55

about it from my parents this

13:57

weekend. How does the Biden campaign

13:59

even? deal with that. They're not just

14:01

running against someone, you know, based on

14:03

policy. He's out there pushing lie after

14:05

lie and it's sticking. Charlie.

14:09

No, I mean, you're asking the right question. It's

14:12

the question we've been asking for the last seven

14:14

or eight years. How do you penetrate that alternative

14:16

reality silo? And Donald Trump knows that he can

14:18

throw this stuff out there and there will, and

14:20

he won't be held accountable for it. But you

14:22

are right that what you are seeing is that

14:25

he's escalating this rhetoric. He does think that this

14:27

is the ultimate wedge issue. He

14:29

thinks he wrote this

14:31

issue demonizing immigrants to the White House in

14:33

2016. But your chiron that you've been

14:36

running here, I think is also

14:38

revealing that he is recycling the

14:41

word bloodbath. Remember when he used the

14:43

word bloodbath last week, there were a

14:45

lot of people who rushed forward and

14:47

clutch their pearls and said, well, he

14:50

was talking about the auto industry. And

14:52

in case anyone missed what he was

14:54

really trying to say, you notice now

14:56

he is recycling it. He's turning it

14:58

around, talking about Joe Biden's bloodbath at

15:01

the border. He is using this incendiary

15:03

language. And I also thought it was

15:05

extraordinary that he's standing there in front

15:07

of all of these uniform police officers

15:10

and he's calling immigrants animals

15:13

and he is spreading this misinformation.

15:15

And they're all just standing there

15:17

in front of a man who

15:19

is an indicted felon. The role

15:21

of law enforcement, nobody spoke out

15:23

against it. Nobody said, no, we're

15:25

not dealing with animals. We are

15:28

dealing with human beings. This

15:30

is true. This is not true. But it

15:32

is a dangerous moment. And right now Donald

15:34

Trump thinks this works for him. And as

15:37

you pointed out, you remember that

15:39

moment in 2015 when he came down that

15:41

golden escalator, the first thing he started talking

15:43

about was the Mexican rapist and everybody thought,

15:46

oh my goodness, this is going to be

15:48

the end of his campaign. And there was

15:50

a lot of outrage. In fact, this is

15:52

what fueled his rise in the Republican primary.

15:55

He remembers that. More than just

15:57

a man who's charged with 80 plus charges

16:00

right now Larry there were a

16:02

number of members of law enforcement

16:04

standing behind Donald Trump and that's

16:06

after He has said if

16:08

elected he would work to

16:10

get some of the insurrectionists release

16:13

the insurrectionists the people who

16:15

stormed the Capitol and physically

16:18

beat police officers

16:21

Despite that many members of

16:23

law enforcement still stand with

16:25

him Larry. What's the draw?

16:28

What's he offering them? Well

16:31

a tough guy image and

16:34

They may like some of the things that

16:36

he says but when they focus on what

16:38

he's actually done There may be a different

16:40

reaction But you put your finger on another

16:42

way around this for the Biden campaign When

16:45

he talks about how much he

16:47

cares about police and first responders

16:50

They might want to bring up some of

16:52

the police who were severely injured

16:55

on January the 6th you

16:57

know, it's not just that Trump is talking

16:59

about pardoning all of these criminals

17:01

and that's what they are and And

17:04

those who are traitors there some

17:06

of them are clearly traitors He's

17:08

also talking about holding a vigil

17:10

there to salute them because they're

17:12

patriots they're prisoners I'm

17:15

not saying that'll work with all the police

17:17

and first responders But I would hope it

17:19

will work with some when they see some

17:21

of their fellows Some of their

17:23

fellow police and first responders who

17:25

were seriously injured on January 6th

17:28

Tell them the truth about Donald Trump It's

17:30

not going to work with all of them

17:33

But this election is going to come down

17:35

to a few percent of people who can

17:37

actually be persuaded and tragically Sadly,

17:39

the large majority of the electorate

17:41

for Trump cannot be persuaded So

17:43

you have to work at the

17:46

edges and the edges can deliver

17:48

victories Susan there was one

17:50

more hit on today's parade of lies President

17:53

Biden is going to Wisconsin next

17:55

week. But today's Frank Muntz

17:57

posted that it will be Biden's first

18:00

visit to Wisconsin in two

18:02

years. For facts

18:04

sake, he was in Milwaukee

18:07

last month, but guys like

18:09

Frank Luntz and others are trying to, to,

18:11

to create this, you know, Hillary Clinton narrative

18:13

of, Oh, she was in the Hamptons in

18:16

August while, while Donald Trump was in Wisconsin,

18:18

was in Michigan. The problem is

18:20

that's not true for Joe Biden. He's

18:22

in the States. He's speaking to those

18:24

people and he's delivering on policy. But

18:27

if you're the Biden campaign, before

18:29

you can even meet, make your case

18:31

to voters every day, you've

18:33

got to dig yourself out of a misinformation

18:35

hole. Well,

18:38

also the question is who's listening when

18:40

you do. And that I think is

18:42

the great tragedy of this moment right

18:44

now, which is that you can do

18:46

as many fact checks as you want

18:49

on this show. And, uh, that's not

18:51

the reason why, uh, Trump and his

18:53

surrogates continue to advance lies about, about

18:55

the president, about, uh, their

18:57

policies, about the democratic party. The reason

19:00

is, is that it's very, very effective

19:02

in a media environment in which, uh,

19:04

Trump supporters are never going to be

19:06

exposed, uh, to that kind

19:09

of fact checking and, you know, that's

19:11

the crisis of us living in separate,

19:13

non-intersecting worlds right now. But I think

19:15

it's, it's a great crisis for democracy.

19:18

I just, I have to give props

19:20

to Charlie here for pointing out about

19:22

the blood bath, uh, uh, being used

19:25

by Trump for whatever the issue du

19:27

jour is. One thing that I think

19:29

doesn't get fact-checked enough and probably isn't

19:32

exposed to Trump's voters very much is

19:34

that Donald Trump has a rapidly shrinking

19:36

vocabulary. Uh, and, uh,

19:38

you know, his playbook is his playbook, but man, you

19:40

know, there are very few pages in the playbook at

19:43

this moment in time. Blood

19:45

bath. Let's try to find a new one.

19:47

Susan, Charlie, Larry, thank you all for being

19:49

here tonight. Thank you. When we come back.

19:52

Just one day after the

19:54

judge in Trump's hush money expanded

19:57

the gag order. is

20:00

trying to get him removed from the

20:02

case again. Harry Littman is here

20:04

to help us make sense of him. And

20:06

later, R.F.K. Jr. may have no shot at

20:08

actually winning the White House, but

20:11

his candidacy could determine who does

20:13

win. The 11th hour just getting

20:15

underway on a Tuesday night. Time

20:22

for a quick break to talk about McDonald's. Wake

20:25

up and bagelize. Get your taste buds

20:27

ready for McDonald's breakfast bagel sandwiches. Now

20:30

just $3, only on the app. Choose

20:32

20:35

egg, and cheese bagel, or sausage, egg, and cheese

20:37

bagel. Just $3 when you order ahead on

20:39

the app. Hurry and seize this

20:41

breakfast steal before it's gone. Offer

20:43

valid one time daily March 11th through April 7th, 2024,

20:46

participating McDonald's. Must opt into rewards. It

20:55

has barely been one single day

20:57

since Judge Marchand expanded the partial

20:59

gag order in Trump's Hush Money

21:01

trial. And already, the former

21:03

president is trying to get the judge removed

21:05

from the case for the second time. For

21:08

more, let's bring in former U.S. Attorney

21:10

and former Deputy Assistant Attorney General Harry

21:12

Littman. Harry, is there

21:14

any legitimate issue why

21:17

Marchand should step down? More.

21:21

Should I continue? There

21:24

wasn't anything then. It was sort of

21:27

thin gruel at the time. Now it's

21:29

reheated thin gruel. The only argument is

21:32

his daughter works as

21:35

a Democratic consultant. And they've tried

21:37

to gin up a financial conflict,

21:40

saying the trial will give them

21:42

business that will somehow redound

21:45

to Judge Marchand's benefit.

21:47

You know, it's really

21:51

tissue thin. But I

21:53

also think it's getting really

21:55

real for him now, Steph. You

21:57

know, less than two weeks. jury's

22:00

going to be seated. I think

22:02

we're going to see a series

22:04

of desperate maneuvers and it's hard

22:06

to characterize this as anything but

22:08

to stall, delay, do what he's

22:10

done successfully so far. But now

22:13

he has to face the music. It

22:15

really looks like in this one trial

22:17

and he is wigging out. All

22:20

right. It's tissues in. So Ken

22:22

Marchand blow his nose with it,

22:24

toss it and immediately move on

22:26

because Trump's whole game is to

22:28

delay and calling for

22:30

him to step down and recuse

22:32

himself does grant even a short

22:34

term delay, which is what Trump

22:36

wants. No it

22:39

doesn't. It's just a motion.

22:41

He'll immediately deny it. Trump

22:43

can if and when he's the

22:45

trials over and he's convicted try to say he

22:47

made a mistake. But there's no delay here

22:50

and Marchand will give it about as long as

22:52

it takes to blow one's nose, I think. So

22:54

this is going nowhere and including

22:57

even delaying jury selection. Then

22:59

help me with this because one

23:02

former Trump lawyer, one that hasn't

23:04

been disbarred, told Politico that Trump's

23:06

attacks on the judges are

23:08

strategic. But all

23:10

that it's gotten him so far is

23:13

a harsher gag order. So where's the

23:15

strategy? What's the goal? Right.

23:19

Also, look, one strategy and he is

23:21

definitely trying this with Marchand is to

23:23

get them riled up and make it

23:26

look as if there's a something personal

23:28

between the judge and Trump. That is

23:30

the kind of fodder one can use

23:32

at the court of appeals. He tried

23:34

it with Kaplan, for instance. He tried

23:37

it with Angora and Marchand was a

23:39

cool customer here. He didn't make a

23:41

big thing about his daughter when he

23:43

expanded the gag order. He said these

23:45

kinds of attacks can really put fear

23:47

in any participant. That's why we

23:50

now have to expand and we're really

23:52

are now going into trial. But I

23:54

think what Ty Cobb must mean if

23:56

it's strategic either just to be, you

23:58

know, a total mess. nasty incendiary jerk,

24:01

if that's a strategy, or to try

24:03

to get a judge's goat as a

24:05

way of making it look to a

24:07

court of appeals that someone is biased,

24:09

has it in for him, and that's

24:11

a reason to recuse, and that's a

24:13

reason to delay. But he hasn't gotten

24:16

out of the batter's box on that one with

24:18

Mary Chan, and I don't think he will. This

24:21

guy's pretty composed professional. He

24:24

gives his supporters the perfect out. If

24:26

things don't go well for him, they

24:28

already have the narrative. It's a crooked

24:31

judge. The judge had it in for

24:33

him, and further erode trust that people

24:35

have in our institutions, which is a

24:37

big risk. Before you go— Yeah,

24:40

but that's it 100 percent, except now, I

24:42

think that's been it all along, but now

24:44

it's different. Now he's really got to try

24:46

to delay the trial, but there is always

24:48

that political strategy. I agree. I

24:50

just don't think it dovetails with any delay now. Sorry.

24:53

Go ahead. All right.

24:55

So in true Trump style, he

24:57

has another legal battle. He

25:00

is now suing the co-founders

25:02

of Truth Social. The

25:05

guys who brought him the deal, he's

25:08

now saying they failed in their duties,

25:10

they should relinquish their stock, and give

25:12

him more power. Now he's suing them

25:15

in the state of Florida. They are

25:18

already suing him in the state of

25:20

Delaware. Are these two

25:22

gentlemen, his co-founders, just the latest

25:24

ones to learn that this is

25:26

the cost of doing business with

25:29

Donald Trump? You will

25:31

always get burned. Everything

25:33

Trump touches dies, but it's a really interesting

25:36

suit, and I got to say the best

25:38

analysis of what's happening with Truth Social was

25:40

done by one step rule a few days

25:43

ago, because this is—it's totally empty, it's bankrupt,

25:45

there is no value to it, except people

25:47

are going to buy it to the extent

25:49

they're betting on Trump to become president. This

25:52

is a company that made a few million,

25:54

lost it all. It's already tanked big time

25:56

since in the last two days, but it

25:59

gives him some— paper

26:02

funds and I'll stay that way I think

26:04

based on what you taught me which is

26:06

people thinking okay I want a curry favor

26:08

with them that's why I'll buy shares just

26:10

saying that it makes makes it clear how

26:13

funky it is. But remember it

26:15

is a very risky move when

26:17

the day comes the only way

26:19

Donald Trump can monetize this is

26:21

when he sells his shares he

26:23

will have to publicly disclose before

26:26

he sells those shares and you

26:28

to me when that

26:30

day comes what are the shares

26:32

going to do tank because fundamentally

26:35

this company does next to nothing

26:37

it is not worth what the

26:39

valuation is today. So

26:41

when he has to say I'm going to sell

26:44

look out below. There's going to be

26:46

shareholder suits starting tomorrow you'll find employers buying

26:48

shares who are going to sue it like

26:50

crazy this is going to be you know

26:52

it's all it's all like you know like

26:54

phony Bitcoin or something yeah. It

26:56

is the latest in meme stocks and meme

26:59

stocks and SPACs we all know

27:01

that has been a tragic story. Harry

27:03

thank you when we come back

27:05

the Biden campaign is handling this

27:07

spoiler threat as R.K. Jr.

27:09

is ramping up his attack against

27:12

Biden when the 11th hour continues.

27:26

President Biden's new campaign message appears to

27:28

be paying off according to a new

27:30

morning consult poll Biden is now leading

27:32

Trump by 2% among

27:34

all voters and making some serious

27:37

gains among independents too. With me

27:39

now to discuss two of my

27:41

favorites MSNBC contributor and Bodo Latino

27:43

president and CEO Maria Theresa Kumar

27:45

and Michael Steele former chairman of

27:47

the Republican National Committee and former

27:49

lieutenant governor of Maryland he goes

27:51

the hit weekend show the weekend

27:53

right here on MSNBC. Maria

27:56

these are positive numbers for the president

27:58

but this race is still closed. When

28:00

you think and. Well,

28:03

the fact that he's already starting to take

28:05

the lead against Trump is still so early

28:07

and people are finally starting to see. The

28:10

message in the translation of his policies means

28:12

that it's only get better for Biden right

28:14

now. What is it? Biggest kept secret that

28:16

people have not highlighted was the impetus to

28:19

loans on young voters. There is a reason

28:21

for it just came out just two days

28:23

ago. Stephanie. That said that young voters really

28:25

are starting to feel the relief. a student

28:28

loan forgiveness we're talking over were some that

28:30

billions. Of dollars in student loan forgiveness

28:32

when you. Wanna go to base and

28:34

the only. Way you can grow that

28:36

face is by young voters. In battleground

28:38

states like Arizona is any. Of.

28:41

That. Are. Up

28:44

north. And

28:47

am I thought I? I think

28:49

I'll offer a As audio even

28:51

though President Biden is making substantial

28:53

bands of independence. That same poll

28:55

says that nineteen percent of this

28:57

to group. says. They will vote

29:00

for someone else and that someone. Could.

29:03

Be our obtain Jr and his

29:05

new V P Technical Shanahan. What?

29:07

Do you make of all of this

29:09

and more specifically, his Vp choice? Because

29:11

for all these people who say oh,

29:13

he's gonna pull from Trump. He.

29:16

Could have chosen somebody far more conservative than

29:18

Shanahan, but he didn't. He. He

29:21

he met him a goal for

29:23

our to juniors not support from

29:25

from ah jeez heaping and abetting

29:27

trumpet every time he possibly true

29:29

powers bottle I say that I

29:31

know that because Fox mobs. Of

29:34

staple on Fox so that tells

29:37

you everything you need to know

29:39

about that that's want to the

29:41

play would be younger Are Vice

29:44

Presidents of Choice clearly is a

29:46

direct appeal to a generational voters

29:48

are and younger voters. young

29:51

professional voters are young suburban

29:53

moms of for example ah

29:55

but so does this appeal

29:58

this season brings to the

30:00

table. Here's the rub at the end

30:02

of the day, I will

30:04

be I will be floored if

30:07

he gets anywhere near what Ross

30:09

Perot got back almost 40 years

30:12

ago. And and

30:14

that's because despite

30:16

all the fanciful dancing around and

30:19

the noise making, the country is

30:21

still largely aligned with the two

30:23

parties. So what that means is

30:25

the vote that he gets comes

30:28

out of somebody's hide. And

30:30

that hide, as we saw with Ross Perot

30:32

in 1992, is the Republican nominee.

30:38

Why? Because most of those

30:40

voters that move in that

30:42

direction tend to be center

30:44

right voters from,

30:46

you know, disaffected Republicans, conservative

30:50

independent voters. And so that

30:54

play is one that

30:56

has a tendency in this environment

30:58

to work in reverse. In other

31:00

words, instead of the Republican losing

31:03

that vote, Joe Biden is

31:05

considered the more stable voter.

31:09

And so that hurts him, as

31:11

opposed to hurting someone like Donald

31:14

Trump. And it's a mixed up

31:16

bag. But you know, this

31:18

is where the campaign finds itself with

31:20

someone like RFK in the mix. Maria,

31:23

I keep hearing anecdotally, oh, no, RFK

31:25

is going to pull from Trump, you

31:28

know, especially this new woman, you know,

31:30

she kind of appeals to the libertarian

31:32

crowd or, you know, he's dabbled in

31:34

the anti vaccine. And that goes to

31:36

more MAGA folks. However, that's anecdotal.

31:40

Yesterday, RFK juniors own words.

31:42

He said that Joe Biden

31:44

is a greater threat to

31:46

our democracy than Donald Trump

31:48

is. With a statement like

31:51

that, isn't it a pretty clear

31:53

admission that he wants Donald Trump to

31:55

win? 100%.

31:58

And I think that this is where We

32:00

really need to have a frank conversation

32:02

with voters who think that a third

32:04

party candidate in the United States has

32:06

a shot at the White House. They

32:08

don't. All it is is a spoiler.

32:11

And he is basically echoing and parroting

32:13

Donald Trump. And let's be very clear,

32:15

the fact that he is an anti-vaxxer

32:17

is so dangerous for the American public.

32:20

We had measles practically eradicated in this

32:22

country. And now we see measles cases

32:24

going up because children aren't not getting

32:26

vaccinated because of the lies that he

32:28

is peddling. He is risking American lives

32:31

to make real decisions on behalf of

32:33

their families. Instead, he perpetuates conspiracy theories. This

32:35

is not a joke. This is not a

32:37

drill. We've seen this before. He is Trump-like,

32:39

and people need to be very clear that

32:41

when it comes to time to cast a

32:44

vote, it has to be for someone who

32:46

is pro-democracy. And he clearly has

32:48

the sentiments of Donald Trump where he

32:50

likes to perpetuate lies in order to

32:52

make himself feel bigger. So

32:55

Michael, if and what should the Biden campaign do about

32:57

this? Everything

33:00

in their power to diminish

33:02

is any momentum he has. Certainly,

33:05

I think it says a lot

33:07

that RFK's own family, I mean,

33:10

like all of them, are

33:12

saying, they say, oh

33:14

no, America, y'all don't wanna do

33:16

this. You don't want the Jones in

33:19

the room with him, no. Exactly.

33:23

I saw him on TV trying to say

33:25

to an interviewer, listen, does your family agree

33:27

with you on everything? And I

33:29

thought, no, I am sure my mother doesn't like my

33:32

hair tonight, but if I were running for president, you're

33:34

damn right, she'd be voting for me. Maria,

33:36

Michael. Oh, my food's big

33:39

up there. Thank you for

33:41

being here. Don't you disagree with your parents?

33:43

Yeah, on where we're going for dinner, not

33:45

should I be the president. All right, when we come

33:47

back, seven World Central

33:49

kitchen workers were tragically killed

33:52

by an Israeli strike. We'll

33:54

Be speaking to another group still

34:25

34:27

34:55

34:58

Seventy workers were killed, including a

35:08

the Israeli government needs to stop

35:11

this indiscriminate killing. It needs to

Also lost someone in September. How

36:51

hard is it for you and your

in danger? He

37:01

I actually came back from Gaza

37:04

last week. I was literally in

37:06

the Obama. That's what happens on

37:08

Tuesday. it is. The

37:11

worst place in the world to

37:13

be child is the hardest place

37:15

for humanitarian to do on work

37:17

in the world and then to

37:19

see something in a world with

37:21

complex from Sudan to com go.

37:24

To too many other places such as like

37:26

a D. C. Is

37:29

it is unbelievably difficult to do our

37:31

work we're not getting enough supplies is

37:33

an easel when we get supplies, in

37:35

which we do that once in awhile.

37:38

not enough for we do get some.

37:40

it's then clearly we need to distribute

them to communities in the area, as

37:57

38:00

to do that work under real

38:02

severe risk of losing your own

38:04

life and getting injured, but also

38:07

seeing day after day that what

38:09

you can do is not enough

38:11

to alleviate suffering is incredibly difficult.

38:14

What was it like there last week? What did you see

38:16

on the ground? What were you experiencing? You

38:21

see literally, we were in Rafa and

38:23

then we went up to Dharabala and

38:26

what you see is essentially people everywhere,

38:28

people looking for food in desperation.

38:32

Children everywhere, children jumping on trucks,

38:34

jumping on cars, they cross the

38:37

roads. You have

38:39

to be really careful actually not to hit children when

38:41

you are driving through in your truck. Mothers

38:44

telling me about standing in lines for

38:47

three or four hours to go into

38:49

that one bathroom that they share with

38:51

700 other people in that community. Mothers

38:54

telling me that they even

38:57

want more than food, they need mental health

38:59

support because they and their children are

39:01

so traumatized by what they have witnessed

39:03

and what they have experienced. It

39:06

is really beyond belief. We

39:08

see 350,000 children

39:10

under the age of five currently

39:12

in Gaza at risk of starvation.

39:15

Those young children in particular are

39:17

at the highest risk. They are

39:19

the most vulnerable and there is

39:21

not enough food and

39:23

nutritious food available. What

39:25

was harder for you to be there

39:27

or to leave? That

39:31

is a great question. I was actually thinking that as I

39:33

was making my way out, it was really hard to leave

39:35

to be honest. It

39:37

was. Part of me wanted to

39:39

stay there and go out the next

39:41

day and get some of that food to the

39:43

community to set up a child-friendly space where children

39:46

can play because that is what they were also

39:48

asking me. It gave me a football. I

39:51

wanted to play with my friends. So,

39:53

yeah, it was hard to leave. Absolutely.

39:57

Nancy, I want to thank you for all the

39:59

work you do. that you do, your colleagues, you

40:01

are truly extraordinary. I appreciate

40:03

you joining us tonight. Thank

40:07

you for having me. When we

40:09

return, April 1st, of course, is

40:11

April Fool's Day. Today,

40:14

it's facts day. The importance

40:16

of international fact-checking day in

40:18

this age of mega misinformation

40:20

when the 11th hour continues.

40:51

40:59

people really want to see us do is

41:01

hold people to the truth. We have a

41:03

bunch of people in Congress that still deny

41:05

what we all saw. We all know what

41:07

happened. It's incontrovertible. And yet

41:09

they say it didn't. And what

41:11

I get from our, the people that are

41:14

writing is, please make them accountable for

41:16

that. If they're not going to speak the truth, if

41:19

they're not going to stand for the values that we

41:22

all have in this country, hold them out. Damn

41:25

right. The

41:28

last thing before we go tonight, international

41:30

fact checking day. That

41:32

is what is happening tonight. Bringing

41:35

you the facts is something this program cares

41:37

deeply about. And today

41:39

we are all celebrating a global

41:41

initiative that recognizes the crucial role

41:43

of accurate information in an interconnected

41:46

world. International

41:48

fact checking day serves as a rallying

41:50

cry for more truth in public health,

41:52

journalism, and in our everyday lives. And

41:55

in honor of this day, I want to read

41:57

you part of a letter from that man you saw this morning. Chris

42:00

Quinn. He's the editor of The

42:02

Plain Dealer and cleveland.com. Over

42:05

the weekend he wrote about how they

42:07

cover Trump and the facts of January

42:09

6th. Here's just a part of it. The

42:12

North Star here is truth. We

42:14

tell the truth even when some of

42:17

it offends some of the people

42:19

who pay us for information. The truth

42:21

is that Donald Trump undermined faith in

42:23

our elections and his false bid to

42:26

retain the presidency. He sparked an

42:28

insurrection intended to overthrow our government and

42:31

keep himself in power. No president

42:33

in our history has done worse.

42:36

The facts involving Trump are crystal

42:38

clear and as news people we

42:40

cannot pretend otherwise as unpopular

42:42

as that might be with a segment of

42:45

our readers. There are not

42:47

two sides to facts. People

42:49

who say the earth is flat don't get

42:51

space on our platforms. If that

42:53

offends them so be it. Well

42:56

said, Chris Quinn. Well said. The

42:59

truth matters but only if

43:01

you hear it. And we

43:03

will keep bringing you the facts every

43:06

night right here on the 11th

43:08

hour. And when we make mistakes you

43:11

can call us out on it and we will

43:13

correct those mistakes because we are human.

43:16

But telling lies, pushing lies on

43:18

public platforms meant to help people

43:20

get better and smarter, that is

43:23

wrong and not something we will be

43:25

participating in. And on that note I

43:27

wish you a very good

43:29

night. From all of our

43:31

colleagues across the networks of NBC News, let's

43:34

just stand up late with me. I'll see if we end

43:36

it tomorrow. Time

43:49

for a quick break to talk about McDonald's. Wake

43:52

up and bagelize. Get your taste buds

43:54

ready for McDonald's breakfast bagel sandwiches. Now

43:57
