Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859 - 1930)
This is a compilation of twelve short stories featuring the renowned detective created by Conan Doyle. These stories were initially published individually in the Strand Magazine before being later gathered into a single volume.
Not every narrative in this collection involves a criminal act or the pursuit of a wrongdoer, and even when such cases arise, Holmes doesn't always apprehend the culprit. Nevertheless, his exceptional deductive abilities typically lead to the resolution of the mysteries, frequently highlighting the shortcomings of the official police force. Holmes is a multifaceted character, and my perception of him diverges from the common belief that he is distant and devoid of humor. In fact, he exhibits a lively sense of amusement at times, and there are instances of profound emotional depth in his character. (Summary provided by Ruth Golding)
