Welcome to the Approach Shot , the
0:10
golf show that's more laughs than links
0:12
, more stories than strokes , more
0:14
guffaws than golfers . Here
0:16
are the hosts of the Approach Shot , John
0:18
Ashton and Neil Michaels , and it
0:20
is officially time for us , the
0:22
Approach Shot .
0:23
I am John Ashton .
0:25
I'm Neil Michaels . Today is New Year's Eve . Boy
0:29
, you really did have a memorable Christmas didn't
0:31
you ?
0:32
You think , a memorable Christmas . I can remember something
0:35
, but no , you would think , to
0:37
quote Barry Mantelow , just another New Year's Eve
0:39
, that's right , that's right .
0:41
Have you noticed that most of the music
0:44
regarding New Year's is depressing
0:46
? Oh yeah , Like Barry
0:48
Mantelow's , it's just another New Year's
0:50
Eve . Basically , the song is like don't worry
0:52
about it , it's just a day . Yeah
0:55
, nothing to it . And Fogelberg's Old Angzine
0:57
. He meets his old lover in the grocery
0:59
store and same old Angzine and they
1:01
cry yeah , it's
1:04
great music , but gosh
1:06
, it makes you want to drink , which I guess
1:08
that's the point . I guess
1:11
that's it exactly . So
1:13
you said last year , I believe
1:16
on this very show . You
1:18
said you had a bunch
1:20
of New Year's resolutions and
1:22
you weren't going to do any of them because you don't really believe
1:24
in them .
1:25
Right .
1:26
You're absolutely right , but you would have them .
1:29
Well , you know you have to , because people
1:31
always say what's your New Year's resolution ? And if you say
1:33
nothing , they look at you
1:35
like you're some sort of cretin , right ? So
1:38
I always tell them . I mean , and I tell people , I
1:41
told them when they asked me last year that this
1:43
year I resolved to lose 10 pounds
1:45
and I checked yesterday and
1:47
I only have 14 left to go .
1:52
Very nice . Yeah
1:54
, my wife had a New Year's resolution to lose
1:56
225 pounds and I
1:58
was like so , divorce me . And
2:01
she's like , yeah , that's pretty much . That was the joke , yeah .
2:03
How do you lose 150 pounds , ugly , sad
2:05
and a divorce .
2:07
Right .
2:07
Gotcha . So what about
2:09
this year ? Come on
2:12
, I'm going to be
2:15
here when it's necessary
2:18
and I may actually
2:20
research some of the guests we
2:22
have .
2:24
Well , that would be a huge step in the right direction . Change
2:26
you
2:30
know what ? Just for that , I'll double you a shallery
2:32
.
2:33
Alrighty , then .
2:35
Yeah . So right
2:37
before Christmas I went to I
2:39
went back to the East Coast , as
2:41
people have who are listening on a regular basis
2:44
figured out . I live in San Diego and
2:46
blah , blah , the weather's great , all
2:48
that kind of stuff and my kids most of
2:50
the time don't care about it , except this time of year . They really
2:53
hate me when I say I left and it was 70 degrees
2:55
, and they're like go back to 70 degrees
2:57
. So when I got there it was 55 for
2:59
the first three days and I'm thinking to myself this
3:01
is John Ashton golf weather . It
3:04
is 55 , go and get out there
3:06
and play . And then it rained like
3:08
hell . And then the day after that
3:10
the winds came in and it was 39 degrees
3:12
and blustery and I heard the words
3:14
that no West coaster has ever heard
3:17
, which is wind shall factor . That
3:22
was like 31 and I'm
3:24
driving to Dulles Airport and
3:26
on the little car that I had rented
3:28
, a little bling comes on and it says icy
3:31
conditions possible ahead and
3:33
I was like get me on that plane
3:35
, other
3:37
things you don't want to see , and hopefully
3:39
that plane knows the icy conditions , so exactly
3:42
. Get the ice off and
3:44
deice it and get me out of here . We won't talk
3:46
about that anymore .
3:47
I got one of the other day on my phone that just said
3:49
black ice possible
3:51
in road , wow .
3:53
And of course you're looking at that and you hit a patch
3:55
of black ice and you're done and it's like can I sue
3:58
the company , the car company ? You
4:00
distracted me . Well , when I was there
4:02
, I gave my kids
4:04
their Christmas gifts and there
4:06
were a bunch from Amazon that they just opened up
4:08
, but the one that really got them was
4:11
their master classes
4:13
. I had told you
4:15
before that I was going to give one to my daughter and one
4:17
to my son , but I didn't . I gave one to my
4:19
son and one to his wife because
4:22
his wife is an actress
4:24
. So I thought , well , maybe she can
4:26
join you in your class , your Helen Mirren
4:29
class . So they were super
4:31
excited . They were like what better
4:33
than a year's worth of knowledge
4:36
that I can use pretty much anytime
4:38
I want to ? And I was like you got
4:40
it . That's the spirit .
4:42
And you don't want your daughter writing songs that sound like
4:44
John Legend songs ?
4:45
I don't , and she's already got songwriting
4:48
abilities that well , no
4:50
, let's . Let's face it , I was cheap , it was a buy
4:52
one get one and I had to decide who to give
4:55
it to , and that you know . The
4:57
cool thing about the buy one get one
4:59
is okay , I know who I'm giving
5:01
this to . Now I have to figure
5:03
out who gets the other one . That's not a bad
5:05
position to be in , somebody else is going
5:07
to get something really amazing .
5:09
And you don't have to actually tell them that
5:11
, hey , this is a class with Helen
5:13
Mirren I'm giving you . You can say , hey , this
5:16
is a class I'm giving you
5:18
from masterclass . You
5:20
can decide what class you want
5:22
, what professor you want . There's
5:25
over what 180 different ones to choose
5:27
from .
5:28
That's really interesting . I will check back
5:30
with them and find out , because
5:32
I didn't say you're taking a class with this
5:34
and I said that there's an acting class available and
5:37
a voiceover class available . But
5:39
my son likes to cook . He may end up
5:41
taking a cooking class , that's right , I
5:44
mean .
5:44
A lot of times people think I know everything there is to know
5:46
about what my chosen profession is
5:48
Right , maybe I should branch
5:50
out into something else that I would enjoy .
5:53
That's an excellent thought , and it is a great
5:55
way to be able to learn something that's
5:57
sort of been on your fringes for a while . Yeah
5:59
, so here's my challenge
6:02
to you , grumpy yes , since
6:04
you didn't love Christmas and you're struggling
6:07
with New Year's resolutions , how about this
6:09
for a New Year's resolution ? Learn
6:11
something new from one
6:13
of masterclass's expert
6:16
professors . I am doing that
6:18
, but we should like encourage
6:20
other people to do that .
6:22
We should Sit back and think what
6:24
is it that you would really really love to do ? You really
6:26
love to cook ? Do you need to learn some business
6:28
techniques ? You want to maybe know how to
6:30
negotiate better ? Chris
6:32
Voss is a teacher at masterclass
6:35
. You want to learn how to write ? You
6:37
got the great American novel in the back of your head , Just
6:40
can't get it on paper . Whatever you want to do
6:42
, you can go to masterclass . You
6:44
can find the class , you can find the appropriate
6:46
teacher and sign up for
6:48
$10 a
6:51
month .
6:51
That's crazy . I still don't believe
6:53
that . We've been reading
6:55
that for five weeks now . And $10
6:58
a month , $120 a year plus
7:01
a free one , it's really $5
7:03
a month when you break it down like that .
7:05
Exactly . Membership start at $120
7:07
a year for unlimited access to one-on-one classes
7:09
. That's a good thing too . They're
7:12
one-on-one classes and they're recorded . You can watch them whenever
7:14
you feel like it and over 180
7:16
masterclass instructors . So
7:18
the buy one , get one . It's
7:20

7:23

7:44
Why is it that when you say I'm going to say this one
7:46
more time for the slow people in the audience , you'll always
7:48
look right at me ? Masterclasscom
7:53
Approach $10
7:56
a month by one , get one . I
7:58
got it , I got it John , and
8:00
there's two . Ps and approach . I'm so excited
8:02
about that and I'm so excited
8:04
about our guests today , because we're going
8:07
to give you a holiday gift by
8:09
not doing an athlete , by not working
8:11
with . This is one of those people who
8:13
, when you and I get together at a
8:16
cocktail party , we would pull her aside
8:18
and we would talk old DJ
8:20
stuff for the entire night
8:22
. So that's what we're going to do today .
8:23
Instead , we will be talking to a woman
8:26
who suffers from the same disease that we have
8:28
had all our lives , which
8:30
is exercises today , ego problems
8:33
.
8:35
They call it ego DJitis . Christine
8:38
Stone from SiriusXM Radio
8:40
will be joining us shortly , and
8:42
here's the funny part she's
8:44
a crazy golf fanatic , even
8:47
though she's a mostly classic
8:49
rock DJ , so we'll be talking
8:52
to her about music . We'll be talking to her about
8:54
SiriusXM and we'll talk to her
8:56
about golf when she joins
8:58
us .
8:59
And that will happen immediately , if not
9:01
sooner . Hang out , we'll be right back . We are the
9:04
Approach Show .
9:10
The Approach Show . The golf show that's more
9:12
laughs than links .
9:13
Nine-year veteran of Major League Baseball
9:16
, Steve Psycho-Lion .
9:18
Is it the same thing ? When you're facing a fastball
9:20
, it seems longer to get there than the minuscule
9:23
amount of time it actually takes to travel that
9:25
far .
9:25
No no .
9:29
Okay , then Download episode or two of the
9:31
Approach Shot today at Apple Podcast
9:33
, Spotify or wherever you download podcasts
9:36
.
9:44
And find us on the web at approachshotnet
9:47
and thanks for hanging , thanks for coming
9:49
back . We really appreciate the second part . We are the
9:51
Approach Shot . I am John Ashton , I'm
9:53
Neil .
9:54
Michaels , are people going to come back
9:56
after the break and think
9:58
I wonder if they're here ? Of
10:00
course we're here , where else would we be ?
10:02
It's the magic of radio you talk to one
10:04
person Today the one was that
10:06
came back and said hey , they knew me .
10:08
I'm so glad that that one person did . Otherwise
10:10
we'd be talking to each other , which we do way too much
10:12
. Today we're also going to be talking
10:15
with someone who is known as Stoner
10:17
Stoney Bologna
10:20
and the mother of rock
10:22
. We just call her Christine because
10:24
that's her name . Christine Stone from SiriusXM
10:27
. Welcome to the Approach Shot .
10:29
John and Neil . Thank you so much . That's funny
10:31
, those nicknames are
10:34
quite old . Are they ? Yeah , like Stoner
10:36
, that was before kids
10:38
. I mean , it's my last name
10:40
, of course , but it was also a lifestyle
10:43
. I was going to ask you that .
10:44
So thanks for getting that out of the way , and
10:47
then the kids showed up and you had to explain it
10:49
, so we stopped calling you that I got you .
10:53
Yeah , kids change everything .
10:55
So where were you before SiriusXM became
10:57
a thing ?
10:58
Oh , I did the gamut around Connecticut
11:00
radio . That's where I am now , Connecticut . So
11:03
yeah , I worked at 95.9
11:06
the Fox and I worked at
11:08
95.1 I-95
11:12
, HCN in Hartford , PLR
11:14
in New Haven , MRQ in Hartford
11:16
.
11:16
You started at WWCO in Waterbury
11:19
.
11:19
I forgot to mention the first one . Yeah , I did .
11:23
I thought I would throw that in for you , in case any of those people were going to speak
11:25
to you .
11:25
That was a little AM station in Waterbury , Connecticut
11:28
. I took that job because
11:30
it was the midday show . Nobody
11:32
gets their first gig in radio doing
11:34
the midday . It's usually overnight . It
11:37
puts you in the graveyard . I was lucky to do
11:39
10 to 3 out in Waterbury
11:42
and that was only for like nine months , and then I went
11:44
to the Fox in Norwalk , connecticut
11:46
.
11:46
The 10 to 3 shift is the only
11:48
one that allows you to have a regular life
11:50
, because if you're doing mornings you're up at 4
11:52
o'clock . 5 o'clock in the morning you got to get to the station
11:55
, get prep , do all that . If you're doing 3 to 7
11:57
, then by time you're done , you do a
11:59
production shift afterward . You get home at 8 or 8.30
12:02
. So 10 to 3 gives you the chance
12:04
to get in at 9 and leave at 5 , and yet it's
12:06
not the sexy day part .
12:08
It's not . I guess
12:10
a lot of people aren't in
12:12
their cars for local stations
12:15
. Now it's Sirius
12:17
XM . It's
12:20
a nationwide platform , so
12:23
part of my shows are West Coast . So
12:26
yeah , I have to be mindful of that .
12:28
With Sirius XM since 2001,
12:31
. Was that at the very
12:33
beginning , or was Sirius XM around
12:35
for a few years before you came in ?
12:37
It's funny . Yeah , I started two
12:39
weeks before 9-11 and
12:42
that was super
12:44
bizarre . They used
12:46
to be called CD Radio
12:49
, which was back in the 90s and
12:51
it was doing unbelievably
12:53
well on Wall Street . And
12:56
then we actually went live
12:58
in February of 2002
13:02
and XM
13:04
had already been broadcasting from Washington
13:06
DC at that time . In
13:09
2008 , we merged with
13:11
XM , so there's our new moniker
13:13
now , but it's not so new anymore .
13:16
Not at all . So did you ever have a real job
13:18
?
13:19
I had one job out of college
13:21
and that was a sales
13:23
rep for the Hertz Corporation
13:26
rental cars and I used
13:28
to do bookings for corporate
13:30
bookings , and
13:32
I did that for , I'm going to
13:34
say , four months and then I
13:36
got that radio job and I was gone . But
13:39
I took about a $10,000 pay cut
13:41
to do that because in 1989
13:44
, I think I was making $22,000
13:46
at Hertz but I was making $12.5
13:50
at that state and
13:53
we're probably one of the higher paid people on the air .
13:55
They used to entice people to come on the radio
13:57
and say you got a discjockey gig for you . It's
14:00
minimum wage and all the records you can carry home and people
14:02
used to take them because they wanted to do
14:04
that job . They were sick .
14:06
There is a lot of appeal . I
14:09
used to be married to a doctor and
14:12
we would go to gatherings , parties
14:14
, dinner parties , whatever . They would
14:16
ask us what we do and Neil would say
14:18
I'm a doctor and I would say
14:21
I'm a DJ . And they're like oh
14:23
a DJ . The guy just says live .
14:27
It's like Right , you don't do much
14:29
. All you do is save people's lives , but
14:31
she plays on the radio , my wife and I
14:33
.
14:33
She's a critical care nurse and we have had
14:35
this discussion because I did
14:38
in Louisville especially . I did mornings most of my
14:40
career . But I did mornings here in Louisville
14:42
for 12 years and I'd sleep in two
14:44
shifts nine at night to three in the morning , and
14:46
then I'd get home around 11 , 11 , 30
14:48
and I'd sleep from like noon to four and
14:51
my wife would say you've got to do this , we've
14:53
got this , you should take it . And I said I got to take a nap
14:55
. You work four hours a day . What makes you
14:57
so tired ? I'm not explaining the prep . My
15:00
entire life is show prep . Everything
15:02
that happens in my life is going to make it on the radio
15:04
one way or the other . And she said , yeah
15:07
, but you make a mistake . Someone doesn't
15:09
laugh . I make a mistake , someone dies , I
15:12
go . I'm not saying I work harder than you , I'm
15:14
tired .
15:15
It's just two totally different animals
15:18
. I mean , I don't
15:20
think my ex-husband ever took my career
15:22
seriously . He might now , but it's
15:24
too late .
15:25
Yeah , too late , I don't know what to do next . I
15:28
remember working at an AM station
15:30
in Virginia and my co-host
15:33
we did mornings . My co-host was Gene Baxter
15:35
, who went on to become
15:38
the bean in Kevin and the bean on K-Rock in Los
15:40
Angeles . So he did
15:42
well and I'm here with John and
15:47
we worked for $90 a week because
15:50
the general manager said the morning
15:52
show pays $180 . If you guys
15:54
both want this , you split it . And
15:57
we looked at each other and we were like okay .
15:59
Well , everybody maintains that
16:01
they're not in this business to get rich . But
16:03
I mean , when you see Howard Stern and how well
16:05
he's done , you know I guess he is one in a
16:07
million really , and the rest of us are a dime
16:09
, a dozen .
16:12
Oh no , the bean made so much money that he
16:14
had his own island in , lived on his
16:16
own island in Puget
16:18
Sound , and I'm like didn't we
16:21
start together ? Shouldn't there be some kind of sharing
16:23
? Shouldn't there be something he
16:25
was like I don't know .
16:26
He was retroactive .
16:27
Right , I don't I'm sure . Who are
16:29
you again ?
16:31
So you can . You can appreciate this , being
16:33
a Connecticut native is
16:35
I went to high school and I moved from Boston
16:38
which is where I fell in love with radio to
16:41
New York City and I got a gig
16:43
. My dad was a minister and he got me a gig with the
16:45
it's , the council of churches of the city
16:47
of New York , department of radio and television . Okay
16:50
, that's pretty cool . But one day they gave
16:52
me a bunch of tapes because they did a
16:54
lot of public service programs on the New
16:56
York stations and they gave me three little
16:59
reels of tape and they said take this down to W
17:01
ABC and make sure the guy puts it together
17:03
correctly . So I did that . I trundled
17:05
on down the W ABC . I walked into
17:07
that production room , told the engineer what
17:09
to do , sat down and he looked at me and he said
17:12
would you like to go wait in the air studio ? Well , I
17:14
get this done .
17:16
Hey , that's . That's really where you want to be
17:18
right and the air .
17:20
I sat in with Dan England for 45
17:22
minutes . Yeah . That's
17:24
probably the best top 40 disc jockey
17:26
ever .
17:27
Love Dan . I grew up listening to Dan
17:29
.
17:29
Yes , he was . He was just phenomenal
17:32
and just it was a 1971 and just
17:34
sitting in that studio it was just like
17:36
, oh God , I got to do this when I get out
17:38
of here .
17:38
I remember those guys . Yeah , you get bitten by the bug
17:40
. I mean , who else was there ? Harry
17:42
Harrison ?
17:43
Harry Harrison was doing mornings , morning
17:46
there Wrote , wrote up , wrote up in the elevator
17:48
, wrote down on the elevator . With the cousin Brucey
17:50
.
17:51
Nice . He was with us for a while .
17:53
Yeah , he was yeah .
17:55
Speaking of you've done now
17:57
. You've been doing this for long enough . Your
17:59
niche is the classic rock niche
18:02
right off the top of your head . Give us , like your two
18:04
or three favorite acts , and why .
18:06
Well , I would have to say
18:08
Led Zeppelin first , because
18:11
they're just . I mean , there's so much a part
18:13
of my growing years . You
18:16
know my big brother Charles . He kind
18:19
of turned me on to them and I
18:21
just discovered they're genius
18:24
for myself eventually , and so
18:26
that's probably number one . I
18:28
mean , I love Steely Dan . You
18:31
couldn't get more different than Led Zeppelin , and Steely
18:33
Dan Right , exactly there it is . I
18:37
appreciate their musicianship and the
18:39
originality and uniqueness
18:41
of Steely Dan's music . And
18:43
then there's Rush , who I really
18:46
didn't like in the very beginning but
18:48
grew to absolutely love them
18:50
. Saw them on their farewell tour , I
18:53
guess it was . Three years later Neil
18:55
Peart was gone . So but that that's
18:58
meticulous progressive rock , and
19:01
they have a few hits and those probably are my favorites
19:03
. But the more I listen to , the deeper
19:05
ones from Rush . Again , meticulous
19:07
doesn't even come close to describing
19:09
what they have accomplished . And
19:12
I actually have a copy of Gettie Lee's new
19:14
memoir which I'm going to hunker
19:16
down with over the holidays .
19:18
Who had the most memorable
19:21
rock voice that you've
19:23
heard A singer .
19:25
I'm going to say Robert Plant and
19:27
maybe Ann Wilson of Hart .
19:28
Yeah there you go For me
19:30
, it's Freddie Mercury , it just .
19:32
That's that . Put him on my list as
19:34
well .
19:35
Okay , because I love
19:37
Freddie Mercury , love what he
19:39
such a great voice , yeah it was so different
19:42
when Queen came out and
19:44
I think you're my best friend was a first hit
19:46
. When they came out , everybody kind of listened
19:48
to it like , okay , this is , yeah , this is good
19:51
, but it wasn't rock opera at that
19:53
point . That was something that they had sort of made
19:55
a little more vanilla so the general public could listen
19:57
. And then the
19:59
rest came and by time Bohemian
20:02
Rhapsody came out . I think we all went
20:04
what are we listening to ? But
20:06
I love it it's . Is
20:08
it rock ? Is it pop ? Is it up ? What is this ? And
20:10
that's right . Do you
20:12
still get people requesting
20:14
a lot of Queen , doobie
20:16
Brothers , three Dog Night , chicago
20:18
, some of that ?
20:20
I love all those bands on
20:22
classic rewind . We
20:25
focus more on the 80s , late 70s
20:27
, 80s and very early 90s , so
20:30
a lot of it is you know , you too
20:32
, and Tom Petty , boston . But
20:35
yeah , I mean that's , that's
20:37
what they're tuning in for and
20:40
, you know , since I'm on social media , that
20:42
is the best way to communicate with them . Yeah , I
20:44
mean , I love to play requests . I
20:46
just have to make sure it hasn't been played already
20:49
or somebody else has it coming
20:51
up later on in the day , because we don't want to
20:53
kill it . you know Exactly .
20:55
I know .
20:55
I got , I got spoiled . Living in New York City . I
20:59
took 34 consecutive Mondays off my senior year of
21:01
high school . A buddy of mine
21:03
and I we go around on Sunday and collect the
21:06
$5.50 for the good seats
21:08
at the Fillmore and stand
21:10
online at the box office until it opened on
21:12
Monday at noon and
21:14
buy the tickets for everybody for the show that was coming up a month
21:16
down the road . That was , that was our job
21:18
, and so I saw everybody there
21:20
saw the Almond Brothers .
21:22
I imagine I was there .
21:23
The Almond Brothers Humble Pie when they recorded their album . I was there
21:25
for Emerson Lake and Palmer's
21:27
first ever American concert that Bill Graham actually came
21:30
to introduce them . This is marvelous , but
21:32
my first concert that I ever went to was at Madison Square Garden . My
21:36
mother made me wear a suit coat and a tie Okay , Cause she was
21:38
like the fashion police and it was a concert , but
21:41
it was a cat mother in the all night news boys
21:44
buddy Miles Express and the Jimi
21:46
Hendrix experience . Wow , wow , that's
21:49
the first one ever . And I was sitting here
21:51
with 30,000 people at Madison Square Garden , the
21:53
only one wearing a damn well , Jimmy had a tie
21:55
, but it was tied around his head . Did you do
21:58
that ? No , I didn't do that . I should have
22:00
done that , but I didn't do that . Look , mom , I'm wearing a tie .
22:02
I'm gonna say John , I bet that jacket
22:04
and tie came off pretty quickly getting
22:06
in there .
22:06
Yeah , it did , Don't
22:09
tell mom okay .
22:11
Yeah , I won't . That's fantastic
22:13
, though , to have that as your first concert
22:15
at the Garden Wow , yeah .
22:17
Christie . What's the difference to a
22:19
listener who might not be as radio
22:21
geeky as we are between
22:23
Spectrum Classic Rewind
22:26
and the other classic hits , serious
22:28
Channels ?
22:29
Okay , so this . Well , I'll start
22:31
with Classic Vinyl , which I presume
22:34
you're asking about .
22:35
Yeah .
22:36
And then Classic Rewind . There's
22:38
so much rock and roll , there's so much classic
22:40
rock that we did
22:42
deem it necessary to have two channels
22:45
to cover both of them . Vinyl
22:47
, which is on 26 , is
22:49
all the wood stocky
22:51
stuff early Beatles , early Stones
22:53
, early who you know early 60s
22:56
up until the mid
22:58
to late 70s , and that's where Classic
23:00
Rewind takes over into the 80s
23:03
a lot of 80s , and then early , early
23:05
90s , and then on the Spectrum we
23:08
play anything we want . Basically
23:10
, we play
23:13
music from the 60s , 70s , 80s , 90s
23:16
, 2000s , 2000s , teens
23:18
and 20s . Now , that , really
23:20
, that's why we call ourselves the Spectrum , Right
23:23
, yeah , it's interesting .
23:25
I mean , I have Serious XM
23:27
and you guys are 25
23:29
, 26 . And so I cheat . Instead of
23:31
giving you two stations , on my button , I hit
23:33
25 and then just turn the thing . Turn it back , turn it
23:35
. And between
23:37
those two and Yacht Rock Radio
23:39
and Watercolors . I'm good , I don't need anything
23:42
else .
23:42
Yacht Rock is awesome , isn't it ?
23:44
I think the great thing about Yacht Rock is how they
23:46
take , how they don't take themselves seriously at
23:48
all the whole .
23:50
No , right down to the host of the channel
23:52
, who is one of our production
23:55
guys , but he just has that great snobby
23:57
voice , you know .
23:59
The first to pull the third voice
24:01
from McGilligan's Island .
24:02
Exactly .
24:05
We're not just Steely Dan cuts
24:07
. Okay , we mostly are Steely Dan
24:09
.
24:10
Yes , I know the Doobie
24:12
Brothers . That's a great channel . I love
24:14
that .
24:15
Indeed , every once in a while I
24:17
cheat and I go back to the 60s
24:20
on six , just because I love
24:22
listening to like shotgun , shotgun , tom
24:25
, and all those guys I mean .
24:27
I was in the past . I gotta tell you , John , the 60s
24:29
is no longer on channel six . That's now
24:31
.
24:32
I mean I think it's on channel seven 73 , I think . Yeah
24:35
that's how you know he's a fan , but the 60s on
24:37
73 just doesn't have the same ring to it . I'm sorry
24:39
.
24:39
It doesn't . I mean 60
24:42
. Channel six is now Pop Rocks , which
24:44
is a great channel . Deep Tracks
24:46
is another one that went up
24:48
the dial to 308
24:51
, I think and you know who was
24:53
on Deep Tracks Jim
24:55
Ladd , legendary DJ out of .
24:57
Los Angeles . Oh , he just passed away
24:59
too , didn't he ? He did , he was on Deep Tracks
25:01
live .
25:02
So yeah , that was shocking and surprising . I
25:05
think I filled in for him once when I was a part timer
25:07
on Deep Tracks .
25:09
But yeah legendary guy .
25:11
And then the doors reached out on their
25:13
Twitter and a couple other
25:15
you know heritage rock bands saying
25:17
how sorry they were that Jim had passed
25:19
. So he was close to some pretty
25:22
famous people .
25:24
Well , in those days too , when you had you know well
25:26
, wne , wfm in New York , alos
25:28
in Los Angeles .
25:30
ALOS in Los Angeles yeah .
25:32
Was it the underground FM station
25:34
? And was it KMET in San Francisco
25:36
and that the other one ? I
25:38
think anyhow those were legendary . I
25:41
mean , without those stations , most of the rock bands
25:43
that are legendary rock bands probably would never
25:45
have gotten off the ground , Right yeah
25:48
.
25:49
I mean , but that was before the days of Paola
25:51
, I think .
25:52
Oh yeah , or in between
25:54
.
25:55
Or in between . Yeah , they
25:57
do have a digital millennium
26:00
act which we all
26:02
have to acknowledge and sign off on , which
26:04
is to say that you cannot
26:07
tease a song coming
26:09
up by title and
26:11
artist . You can say artist
26:13
or title , but you can't say both
26:16
. Gosh forbid . Someone , would you
26:18
know , hit record on something and
26:20
get the whole recording . You know
26:23
from the radio .
26:24
Because when you say what a fool believes is
26:26
coming up , do you think it's something
26:28
other than the Dubbe's version ?
26:31
No , I mean like I'm going to play stairway to heaven
26:33
in a few minutes . I mean I think everyone would know .
26:36
It's the cool and the gang version Right
26:38
.
26:42
When you tease something coming up by artist and
26:44
maybe a time reference
26:46
to the song or something , I just sit there and I say
26:48
, okay , she's going to play that
26:50
. Well , that's the whole idea , yeah .
26:54
It keeps you hanging on . For the most part , yeah , keeps you
26:56
coming back .
26:56
Speaking of coming back , we want to come back and talk
26:58
to you about your love for golf and
27:01
the fact that you think your game is , to
27:03
quote you , meh yeah
27:06
.
27:06
Okay , so
27:09
I started playing in 1995
27:12
.
27:12
We need to interrupt you because we need to take a break and come back
27:14
and do this .
27:15
This is what happens when you work for Commercial Free
27:17
Radio . We'll be right back , hang
27:19
it up . Yeah , you approach that .
27:24
Have you ever tried to buy gold and silver and felt
27:26
like you were talking to a used car salesman
27:28
? That's because the precious metals industry
27:31
is like the Wild West Salesmen
27:33
can say pretty much anything or make any promise
27:35
they want without repercussion . But
27:37
Genesis Gold Group is different . They're
27:40
a faith-driven Christian precious metals
27:42
company and believe in educating their
27:44
customers , not pressuring them for a quick
27:46
sale . Genesis Gold Group focuses
27:49
on customer service , not sleazy
27:51
marketing . Genesis Gold Group
27:53
is named after the first book of the Bible for
27:55
a reason Proper stewardship of
27:57
wealth is their specialty . Find
28:00
out why they've earned a five out of five rating
28:02
through the Better Business Bureau and how they can
28:04
help you secure your wealth or retirement
28:06
through physical precious metals .
28:09
Call right now to learn more 800-239-6987
28:13
. 800-239-6987
28:15
. That's
28:17
800-239-6987
28:22
.
28:32
That didn't take long , it didn't hurt , we're back . We got
28:34
the approach shot . I'm Sean Ashton .
28:37
I'm Neil Michaels and Christine Stone is talking about
28:39
teases and about what's
28:41
coming up next and stuff . I feel like we could
28:43
just leave and she could take this over , and just we would
28:45
. We could just sit here and just let her go
28:47
.
28:48
Likewise , you guys can totally have my show
28:50
.
28:52
She's on vacation . That's right
28:54
. You know where to find us , how
28:57
many people work there .
28:59
I'm going to say we have about 800
29:01
employees in our New York office
29:03
and then we have Washington
29:05
DC studios , we
29:08
have Nashville studios , los
29:10
Angeles , miami Los
29:12
Angeles is our number two operations
29:15
. That's pretty big place . I think
29:17
we have studios in Detroit . There's
29:20
probably a few that are small .
29:21
Can't forget the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame .
29:24
We do have a studio there . Yeah , we
29:26
have had a long time relationship with the Rock Hall in
29:28
Cleveland . It's a great relationship . We
29:31
were at the Rock Hall Induction at the Barclay Center
29:33
in Brooklyn back in November and
29:36
they both came on the air and talked
29:38
and said they both listened to my shows
29:40
.
29:41
I was like , wow , really , that's so
29:44
cool , you do have a tendency
29:46
to talk as if and
29:48
I know it is because you do know
29:50
these people , that you've met them and
29:53
you have stories and things that
29:55
you know , because that's one of
29:57
the whole atmosphere of being
29:59
on the radio is people expect you to know people
30:01
and to have done things .
30:03
I mean , you know , I was backstage with Hart- Wow
30:06
, but you still haven't forgotten it and
30:08
drank scotch with the average white band
30:10
and you know just things like that
30:12
.
30:13
But the stories you tell are just great you recently
30:15
did some interviews with people like
30:17
I .
30:18
just I had read that you went to a
30:20
big festival and met a
30:22
bunch of people . Ice Cube or Ice Tea Is
30:25
it Ice Cube ?
30:27
Oh yeah , probably thinking
30:29
of the Rock Hall Inductions , and
30:32
I think my first guest was Tom Morello
30:34
of Rage Against the Machine , and
30:37
then we had LL Cool J , carrie
30:39
Underwood , cheryl Crowe , peter
30:41
Frampton , chris Stapleton
30:43
. There's a few others . I can't recall again
30:46
off the top of my head , but it's usually on my social
30:48
media , instagram or Twitter
30:51
. Slash X .
30:53
That's kind of the reason that people
30:55
do what John just mentioned . You
30:57
interviewed all of those people you know country
31:00
music , hip hop , rock
31:02
and so suddenly you've
31:04
got this depth to you .
31:07
So when somebody wants to talk to you because they
31:09
want to get those pieces of that , I
31:11
learned a lot about rap that
31:13
night Because
31:15
I've never been much of a listener
31:18
or a fan . I certainly
31:20
have heard of these people , but
31:23
you know it was their 50th anniversary
31:26
of the first hip hop record . That
31:28
was an enormous milestone and
31:31
I think a lot of people didn't even know it's been around
31:33
since 1973 , you know
31:35
.
31:36
What do they consider the first hip hop record ? Is it
31:38
the Sugar ?
31:38
Hill Gang . You know no
31:41
, the first no the first public
31:43
enemy . Unfortunately the song
31:45
that was considered the first
31:48
hip hop slash talking
31:50
song like that was Rapture
31:52
by Blondie .
31:53
Okay , I was going to say Rapture from Blondie
31:56
, but I don't know if that's it because that was
31:58
late 70s and
32:00
if they had their 50th anniversary . That's why I say
32:02
it was kind of like an underground movement for
32:04
many , many of the early years , I think
32:06
.
32:07
Because , you're right , sugar Hill Gang was the first
32:09
, I think , crossover big
32:11
one . Yeah , there was also
32:13
.
32:14
But that was 78 , 79 soon .
32:17
Oh , well then . Yeah , so there had to
32:19
have been something . Maybe they just didn't cross over
32:21
and it was there , and we weren't playing it on
32:23
top 40 radio at that point , because it
32:25
had .
32:26
So exactly I mean . But for them
32:29
to forge ahead 50 years later , I think it's
32:31
pretty cool .
32:32
Pretty remarkable .
32:33
So let me ask you , Christine , what's a nice girl
32:36
from Connecticut ? How'd you get involved
32:38
in playing golf ? There's only like
32:40
six months a year to play golf in Connecticut
32:42
.
32:43
Yeah , it's a drag . I really hope to change
32:45
that at some point . Well , when I first
32:47
got married , we used to play
32:49
a lot of tennis and then
32:51
my then husband blew
32:53
out consecutive knees
32:56
, torn ACLs , so
32:58
tennis was really off of the
33:00
menu , so to speak . So
33:03
we started taking some golf lessons and
33:06
Tiger Woods was still
33:08
an amateur at the open that year
33:10
and we sucked , god
33:12
, we sucked . For the first two
33:15
years we just basically spent
33:17
most of our time at the range , because
33:19
you can't get out there and hack
33:21
and have groups behind you and
33:23
it's just nerve-wracking . So
33:26
we've been a lot of range time .
33:28
And then you just kept playing and playing
33:31
, and now would you say that on
33:33
a scale of 1 to 10 , what would you say
33:35
? Your level of crazy about golf is .
33:38
Well , me personally , I mean , it's something that I've
33:40
always wanted to
33:42
have a huge presence in my
33:44
life . I can
33:46
tell you honestly , having kids really
33:48
digs into that golf time , and
33:50
I always used to be such a snob when
33:53
I had kids . I was a 17 handicap
33:55
, which is bogey golf . Basically
33:57
, I think I had an 84
33:59
, my all-time low , which I
34:02
was perfectly content with , but I was never
34:04
reached that again and
34:06
got further and further away
34:08
from it as I was in the throes of parenthood
34:10
. So they're older now
34:12
and I really want to try to get
34:15
back into it . You know , what is
34:17
the issue now is flexibility
34:19
and strength , and
34:22
so I feel like I have to get into training just
34:24
to play golf , but I'm happy to do it .
34:27
Sounds like an excuse . Christine , that sounded
34:29
like an excuse .
34:31
It might be an excuse , but
34:34
I'll tell you both . It's
34:36
a valid reason . I was a hands-on
34:38
mom and
34:41
so they were just too little to
34:43
leave them for six hours
34:46
. Yeah exactly .
34:47
That is on the cover of Motherhood Magazine
34:50
, by the way , is my golf
34:52
game suffered because of my kids ? It's
34:55
a headline right on top of Motherhood Magazine .
34:57
Yeah , could have been by me .
34:59
Yeah , it's recurring scene .
35:01
It sounded like it was actually , since
35:04
my kids were born , I think my lowest score
35:06
was probably a 91 , which
35:09
again doesn't feel terrible , but
35:11
it's not 84 .
35:13
The average score is 105, . If it makes
35:15
you feel any better , Well , that's where I'm at now .
35:17
Okay .
35:18
That's cool . Just as
35:20
an aside , the PGA
35:23
championship this year is being played
35:25
here in Louisville , Kentucky , where I happen to reside
35:27
.
35:28
Oh really .
35:29
At the Valhalla Golf Course .
35:31
Will you be going ?
35:32
Yes , I will be covering . I have
35:34
media credentials .
35:36
Good , get me through . You better
35:38
be there , john .
35:39
Yeah . So take
35:41
a couple of days off , bring your clubs
35:44
, come on down , we'll play some golf .
35:46
Only if I've practiced . When is it ?
35:48
May , I think second weekend in May
35:50
, I think so you'll have three or four weeks
35:52
of decent weather by then .
35:54
Yeah , it's Kentucky . It
35:56
gets warm in February here .
35:59
Oh , okay , that's nice .
36:00
I have some relatives in Florence which is that's
36:03
officially Cincinnati , but that's okay .
36:05
It is , we always say , cincinnati
36:07
, but technically they live in Florence . But
36:10
it doesn't really get nice in New England
36:12
until June .
36:14
Yeah , I know , I grew up in Maine , in Boston , oh
36:16
, so you know . Then
36:19
I finally my morning gig
36:21
in Charleston , south Carolina , when
36:24
the head of the city golf courses
36:26
was a fan . And he heard
36:28
me say something about golf and he called me up
36:30
and he says , john , you play golf . I said yeah and
36:33
he says anytime man , give me a call . So I'd get off
36:35
the air at 10 , do a little production
36:37
till 1030 . I was on the first tee by
36:39
11 .
36:40
I'd play three four days a week .
36:42
I was getting good the three years I was in Charleston
36:44
man . Isn't it funny how suddenly the nap schedule
36:46
changed when he had a chance to play golf .
36:49
Oh , yeah , nap . I don't need
36:51
those stinking naps .
36:54
No , not at all . I would make that
36:56
same sacrifice .
36:57
Hey , not only are you a fan , but didn't
37:00
you also , didn't you
37:02
appear on PGA
37:04
Tour Radio on SiriusXM ?
37:06
Yeah , I was with John McGinnis
37:09
and Brian Ktrek a couple
37:11
times this past year or last
37:13
year , I should say . It was spring
37:16
, april and May of
37:18
2023 . They were
37:20
so nice , they were funny and
37:22
I only had , like you know , 10 minutes
37:25
with them , but it was , it was
37:27
fun . We were talking about the open in Los
37:29
Angeles and Ricky Fowler and you
37:31
know he was charging with a 63 the
37:33
first day and I was rooting for
37:35
him the whole time .
37:37
That's what I saw on either your
37:39
social media or somewhere that you know it was a big
37:42
headline was that you were really rooting
37:44
for Ricky Fowler and I thought , was
37:47
it just that he was the kind of guy
37:49
you can relate to ?
37:50
Yeah well , I mean , liv has really changed how
37:52
I feel about a lot of the players
37:54
. You know I used to like
37:57
Brooks for a few minutes and
37:59
then he just got entirely too cocky
38:01
for me . Same with Dustin Johnson
38:03
, and now John Rahm
38:06
is going . I mean , that just boils
38:08
down to good old fashioned greed in
38:11
my view . I guess you could really
38:13
point the finger at Greg
38:15
Norman . I mean , I think he is the one who opened
38:18
this whole box or can
38:20
of worms . You know , it's just another business
38:22
venture for him and I can see
38:24
why it's appealing obviously the money , but
38:27
other than that it's pretty empty . There's no tradition
38:29
involved . You don't see a thousand
38:31
people in the you know , at the driving
38:34
range watching Tiger Woods hit
38:36
practice balls like they did last week
38:38
. I loved that PNC championship
38:41
. I thought that was .
38:42
I'm waiting for Charlie to grow up . Man that's
38:44
, I'm going to be Charlie's number one fan
38:46
.
38:48
Yeah , he's got a lot of his younger dad
38:50
traits in him and just watch
38:52
them swing .
38:54
They are their carbon copies of each other . He's
38:56
a carbon copy of dad .
38:58
He needs to watch his cockiness because
39:00
I can already see it flourishing . But
39:03
I like the humble players like Victor
39:05
Hovland Very subtle , that guy
39:07
made the cut , I think , at
39:09
every tournament this past year .
39:11
Yeah , Every time he played made the cut
39:13
.
39:13
And he doesn't flaunt it and you know
39:15
he's , he's , he's anti-live
39:18
. So
39:21
I'm pro Victor Hovland you know , there's there's history
39:23
with the PGA .
39:24
Anyway , just one quick question before how
39:26
tall is that tree behind you ?
39:29
That's a 10 footer 10 footer .
39:31
Okay , okay .
39:32
We have some high ceilings here , so go
39:34
big or go home .
39:35
For people who are watching on YouTube , it kind of looks
39:37
like you have a 50s
39:39
hairdo , it's . It's right behind you
39:41
. So it's you've got your hair and then you've got the
39:44
tree coming right out the top of your head and it's beautiful
39:46
.
39:46
It looks like a March Simpson thing with the tree behind
39:48
you . Sorry , exactly .
39:51
I am trying to bring the beehive back .
39:54
You could pull it off . Really , you
39:57
could totally pull it off . It's because of my job
39:59
.
40:00
I've just . I've gone through years
40:02
of trying to wear my hair down and
40:04
then I take the headphones off and I've got this
40:06
kink , you know . So
40:08
I just put it up and it's pretty
40:11
much been up for at least the last
40:13
20 years .
40:14
We used to . You know people who call
40:16
people who sleep on their head and wake
40:18
up and bed head . Yes
40:20
. In radio where I grew up
40:23
, when you would take the headphones off because they were the big
40:25
cans , we would call it can head , because
40:27
your hair would just be mashed in at the sides
40:29
and then straight at the top with the right , right
40:31
across the top , where the , where the top .
40:33
Correct .
40:34
That's , that's four double A's man
40:37
.
40:39
I want to do something we've never done on this show
40:41
. We need to go into
40:43
the next segment , which is the six
40:45
pack , which is where we fire
40:48
off six questions at you . Boom
40:50
, boom , boom . We want the very first answer that comes to mind
40:53
. Don't think about it , all that kind of stuff , but
40:55
I want you to take us out
40:57
to break and then take
41:00
just take it , kristine .
41:02
OK , well , the approach shot will be
41:04
right back .
41:09

41:11

41:27

41:31
had to say .
41:32
Tax alliance did an amazing job , helping
41:34
me through a quite difficult situation , saving
41:36
me tens and thousands of dollars that I
41:38
would have been paying for many years to come .
41:40

41:43

41:45

41:49
or have a payment plan and are still frustrated
41:51
, call tax alliance now for a free consultation
41:54
800-987-1097
41:57
. 800-987-1097
41:59
. That's 800-987-1097
42:02
.
42:02
Tax alliance , your tax
42:05
resolution solution
42:07
.
42:16
And , just as Christine said , the approach shot is
42:18
right back . Here we are , I'm John . It makes
42:20
me wonder why we're here .
42:21
You guys are having fun , obviously , and you're
42:23
playing commercials , so you're making a little money .
42:25
That's good we are making as little money
42:27
as possible . I'm Neil Michaels
42:30
, and Christine Stone is with
42:32
us today from SiriusXM , but she's
42:34
also a voiceover artist , so
42:36
if you are a company out there that is looking
42:38
for a phenomenal female
42:41
voice , ChristineStoneMediacom
42:45
, go there . Listen to her reels , including
42:48
the incredible promos
42:50
you did for the Yankee broadcasts
42:53
. I was like damn , I hate the
42:55
Yankees and I'd listen .
42:58
Well , I only did the promos
43:01
for those games
43:03
, but their own staff at WFAM
43:06
, they would carry the games and
43:08
do the color commentary and all that . But I just
43:10
did the voiceovers for the promotion
43:13
of those games and that was a fun time
43:15
. That was only for a few years , but I
43:17
got to work with Mark Chernoff
43:19
, who used to be Howard Stern's boss
43:21
a million years ago , in those new
43:24
studios that they have in Lower Manhattan
43:26
. So that was like a train ride to New
43:28
York and then a subway back
43:30
up to SiriusXM . That was busy
43:33
. I wouldn't want to do that anymore now .
43:36
Well , now you could do it from home , probably , correct
43:38
?
43:39
All right , you guys voice track . Where do you do
43:41
the stuff live ?
43:41
There's both . Actually , I tend
43:44
to do my shows pretty much close to live
43:46
, every day , monday through Friday . If
43:48
I want a weekend off , I can do that
43:50
. I can do the weekend shows in advance . But
43:53
being at home , sometimes people
43:55
die . So
43:57
when Rico Kasich of the Cars died
43:59
, I was on the air five minutes
44:01
later with the story and Eddie
44:04
Money and Jeff Beck
44:06
I mean . So that is one of the benefits
44:08
of being at home is you can just jump
44:10
on the air whenever .
44:12
Enough chit chat . Let's fire off some
44:14
six pack at you . We're going to give you six questions
44:16
. We're going to fire them off at you . We want you to give you the very
44:19
first thought that comes to mind . If not , we'll go
44:21
because we're too cheap to buy a
44:23
buzzer , and that
44:25
will mean come on , christine , we're catching
44:27
you , let's go . You ready , I
44:30
guess ? All right . Question one
44:32
if you could have a beer and talk music
44:35
with anyone in history , who
44:37
would it be and why ?
44:38
Oh , jimmy Page for sure . Just
44:42
would I love hearing him orate first
44:44
of all . And he's
44:46
not afraid to just tell story
44:48
after story , and I think if I asked
44:51
him you know how did you come up with the title
44:53
for this song or that song ? He would remember
44:55
and give me a succinct to answer
44:57
. He's a really , really well
45:00
spoken .
45:01
Love it . See how easy that was . You're
45:03
worried about this segment .
45:04
I feel like it's going to get harder Probably
45:06
right .
45:07
Question two you have some very cool nicknames
45:09
, as we've already talked about Stoner , Stony , Bologna
45:12
, which you're going to have to tell us where that came from . Who
45:14
has the coolest nickname in golf ?
45:17
Oh wow , Do they
45:19
have nicknames ? I mean probably
45:21
amongst themselves . I
45:23
just always call everybody by their real
45:26
name and I guess it would be lefty
45:28
would be Phil Mickelson and
45:30
I'm a lefty . Even though I play righty , I am
45:33
left handed .
45:35
So they did that to you . That's
45:37
funny , he's right handed .
45:39
I'm sorry , there's the golden bear .
45:40
There it is , but
45:43
but still is right handed normally
45:45
.
45:46
but he learned how to play golf by me by
45:49
mirroring his dad .
45:51
he stood in front of his dad and just mimicked everything
45:53
his dad did , and so he was doing it all left handed
45:55
.
45:56
See . So if you're not a fan of Bill Mickelson
45:58
, you could be like . Even your nickname is a lie
46:00
.
46:03
Thank you , john . You know I didn't . I didn't know that
46:05
Phil was actually right handed . That's incredible
46:08
, it is . There was a time
46:10
when I was probably like 11
46:12
or 12 , I could have played either way
46:14
, but didn't have any left handed clubs
46:16
, so I just went with the right hand and
46:18
now there's no other way for me to do it .
46:20
All right . Question three this is the hard one . Siriusxm
46:23
has just given you , Christine , the
46:25
chance to put together a classic rock
46:27
concert with any three
46:29
living and touring
46:31
bands . Who is the opening
46:34
act , who comes on next and
46:36
who's the headliner ?
46:38
Wow , that's an excellent
46:40
question . I would probably
46:42
put Red Hot Chili Peppers
46:44
and then Foo Fighters and
46:47
then the Eagles .
46:49
Wow , I'd go to that show . Hell
46:52
yes , I'd go to that show .
46:54
Yeah , but he'd want to be calmed , Christine .
46:56
Well , of course .
46:58
And probably have backstage passes .
47:00
Of course , have you seen the Eagles ? I
47:02
don't go to a show unless I can go backstage .
47:05
I have never seen the Eagles
47:07
, though I've had tickets twice .
47:09
I've only seen them once . They were fantastic
47:11
. That was 2019 before .
47:14
I was going to say are they as great ? Because their farewell
47:16
tours have now gone on for five years . Are
47:20
they still sounding as good ?
47:22
Tight as ever . It's unbelievable
47:24
. They're a little slow getting up in the morning
47:26
, but who isn't ? They
47:28
get up there and they are just tight
47:31
. It's amazing , love it .
47:33
Love it All right . Question four the approach shot
47:35
. The approach just showed up and
47:37
bestowed upon you the power to change
47:40
one rule in
47:42
golf . What would you change
47:44
?
47:45
Oh boy , I don't know , it
47:48
would probably have to be the drop
47:51
in place . I'm sorry , scratch
47:53
, that I would want to be able to
47:55
ground my club in a bumper Nice
47:58
.
48:02
There you go . I thought for sure she was
48:04
going to say have men wear shorts . I'm
48:08
waiting for that .
48:10
Sometimes these guys are broiling out there at
48:13
these tournaments for four days and I
48:15
do feel for them . They can
48:17
go to live and wear shorts , of course . I
48:20
think they should be able to wear shorts .
48:22
There's one rule I've tried to get the USG8 to
48:24
change and they didn't even think it was funny , but I told
48:26
them that I think $4 is enough of a
48:28
penalty for a lost ball . You really
48:31
shouldn't have to take a stroke too .
48:32
There's out of bounds and there's lateral hazards
48:34
.
48:35
We had a former Miss America
48:38
on a friend of John's Heather , French Henry
48:40
, and she said she thought all men should
48:42
have to wear speedos when they play .
48:46
It could be a chafing issue .
48:51
I'm sure that's exactly what we were thinking . I
48:55
feel like I've kind of asked you this , but question
48:57
five give me the best male
48:59
classic rock voice ever
49:01
and the best female classic
49:03
rock voice ever .
49:05
Right , it's got to be Robert Plant and
49:08
Ann Wilson of .
49:09
Harden , no question . I could
49:11
argue Freddie Mercury . I could even argue
49:14
Michael McDonald . I could argue some guys
49:16
, but I don't think anybody could touch
49:18
Ann Wilson .
49:19
She's amazing . I just did an artist confidential
49:22
with her in New York recently and
49:24
she was easy to talk to
49:26
and her voice sounds great . I
49:29
think she's 72 , 73
49:31
, but she's still beautiful
49:34
and her voice is still amazing
49:36
. That was a career
49:38
high point for me , for sure .
49:40
Yeah , I heard that that was a great thing
49:42
you did with her . That was great , I enjoyed it immensely
49:44
, oh , thank you .
49:45
Thank you , john , I loved it .
49:48
That should have been question five B , which was
49:50
who have you interviewed ? That was
49:52
the highlight of your career . Let's
49:55
go ahead and back up on that . Who would other
49:57
than her ? Who would it be ?
50:00
Well , I interviewed Robert Plant once
50:02
. He was kind of full of himself . I'm
50:04
sorry , I mean I guess he has a right to be
50:07
, but I
50:09
found it a little off-putting like , come on , man
50:11
, who the hell do you think you are ? I got a picture
50:13
with him . He was very nice . I asked him
50:15
what he did behind the scenes
50:18
when Jimmy Page was in the middle
50:20
of a guitar solo
50:23
, or if they were doing Moby
50:25
Dick with John Bonham on drums for 15
50:27
minutes . What were you doing backstage , robert
50:29
? And he turns and he looks at me and he says Falaishio
50:33
, oh geez , I know I was like
50:35
, did what ?
50:39
The thing you're receiving . Did you get
50:41
him to clarify ? I did I didn't
50:43
answer that .
50:44
Oh , okay , is this reciprocal . I
50:50
kind of laughed it off , but I thought that was shocking
50:53
, shocking .
50:55
All right In question six , and we asked this of every
50:57
guest we have on the show , since we
50:59
are the approach shot . Christine
51:02
Stone , in your approach to life
51:04
, what one rule do you live by ?
51:06
In my approach to life .
51:08
To life . What one rule do
51:10
you live by ?
51:11
We're getting deep here . Well
51:13
, yeah , and for
51:15
me , I just
51:18
keep moving forward . I don't like
51:20
to look back . I
51:23
mean I'll take a peek once in a while , but I don't stare
51:25
. And
51:28
you just got to keep busy . Life
51:31
can be whatever you want it to be , but
51:33
to sit around and wait for it to come to you , it's
51:36
not going to happen . So you got to get out
51:38
there and go for what you want .
51:40
Love it . Christine , you are off
51:42
the hot seat . Well done on
51:45
the six pack and a half .
51:47
That's a good segment . That's very good . You
51:50
guys almost stumped me on a couple there .
51:52
I like when you say that's a good question . That
51:54
makes us feel good , it feeds the ego , makes me want
51:57
to do it again .
51:57
