Welcome to the Astrology of Terrible Things podcast with me, Carly Heath, and my friend and co-host Jessie Devine. This is a podcast where we bring you stories of terrible things that’ve happened to people and then we delve into the astrology of that terrible thing, to try and figure out why bad things happen.

Important note: this podcast comes with all the trigger warnings. We talk about amusement park disasters, serial killers, catastrophic accidents and all sorts of events that usually result in people dying. If any of that sounds like something you don’t want to hear about, then please do not listen to this show.

On Monday June 2, 1997, just days before graduation, Napa High School's senior class made a trip to Waterworld in Concord. For the past few years, the Napa senior class has gone to waterparks for their senior trips and during these trips every senior class attempts to clog the waterslides. Around 2:45 PM, as the first students went down, they used their arms and legs to stop themselves from going all the way down, resulting in more students clogging the slide behind them, creating a human traffic jam with the goal to get more than 76 kids on the slide. For Quimby, who was amongst those clogging the slide, it would be the last time she’d be together with her classmates.

Many students described hearing a crack—the fiberglass breaking. In a Dateline interview another boy says “he still hears the noise,” and a girl responds that she can hear it in her sleep.
