1:38

1:43

so you know it

1:44

is.

1:44

Do you need a lot of fun? So please come check it out.

2:35

Chandler's very excited about

2:36

that. Yes.

2:37

That's right. I think

2:37

it'll be really awesome. She was everybody else was too

2:39

much fun. She was precious. Yeah.

2:42

No. It's gonna be fun. My

2:44

first convention that I've actually

2:46

been like a member

2:47

of. This is your first, like, conference

2:51

or convention or meeting like featuring

2:54

Chandler? I

2:56

guess so. I performed at NAM show a few

2:58

times. Okay.

2:59

Oh, yes. As a as a musician.

3:00

Yeah. As a musician. But first time, it's like a

3:02

personality. That's

3:03

like a the modern day loose seal ball.

3:06

That is, like, so sweet.

3:09

Mhmm. Yeah. You know,

3:11

you you you do have that loose steel ball energy,

3:13

I think. Yeah.

3:13

Thank you. Wow. Well,

3:15

that's that's what I'm thankful for. We

3:18

need to we need to write a sketch for her now.

3:20

Where she's like she's got the chocolates coming

3:21

down, the conveyor belt. We

3:22

need to do the chocolates. I think she's working

3:25

on it.

3:25

No. I'm working on

3:26

it. So I'm excited. I have to

3:27

do more studying. I have to watch a few more episodes

3:29

to get the right But I

3:30

just you the entire blue race set. I would

3:32

love that. That's what I want for Christmas. That's where

3:34

I figured it out. Or we could, you know, we could co write

3:36

it. don't know. You

3:37

guys?

3:38

We all can get a buck. That used to be a big thing

3:40

in the television industry where, like, writers and

3:42

producers and stuff. You would always

3:45

just say you needed things for research because

3:47

you want

3:47

them. Like, I do a writer who got the

3:49

entire box said that this is Prada's when it

3:51

came out because he said he'd be able to write a

3:53

sketch. That's

3:55

awesome. I mean, we kind of do that

3:57

here.

3:57

Yeah. Like,

3:57

you know, all that Buckey stuff.

3:59

Yeah. You can write it off or get the company to

4:01

buy it for you. Yeah. That's a write off. I

4:03

don't think Seth watches the podcast. We're probably

4:05

safe to say it then. You know? Yeah. I got that

4:07

blue ray set of

4:08

firefly. Nice. Just so we could have

4:10

it in that box of And we'll be getting the mar a long ago.

4:12

We're getting

4:13

x wing for

4:14

x wings. I specifically we we I

4:16

wrote that sketch about Carmel Harris' speech

4:18

writer. He's a six year old kid. Yes.

4:20

Swaddlers. That sketch will be coming out soon. Yeah.

4:23

And at one part of the in

4:25

the stage direction, I say, he's

4:27

playing with this very specific x wing

4:29

model on

4:30

him. I think he has

4:32

He has an original rocket firing boba

4:34

fin. And

4:36

then I hyperlinked to the eBay.

4:40

In addition,

4:41

this one, fit at this amount.

4:43

He gets out his mint condition black lotus.

4:47

For research, for for it's for a problem.

4:50

It's right up. Well, guys,

4:52

you guys all grow up with special Thanksgiving

4:55

traditions. Yes. You guys all do Thanksgiving. always

4:57

like

4:57

Thanksgiving. I think it's Thanksgiving is my favorite it out. I

4:59

didn't think you said that last year. You know? They burn

5:02

off. It's it's one of the the best holidays for

5:04

sure. And I think it's it's also kinda, like, non

5:06

denominational. Yes. It's like everyone's

5:08

just come together. The idea is like there's there's

5:10

God who gave us all stuff and gave

5:12

us our families and let's give thanks.

5:14

And it's just a very simple It's

5:17

a very simple idea. It's like, you know, there's not a lot

5:19

of extra stuff that goes

5:20

on. And I love the spirit of it that you're you're

5:22

grateful to God for, you know, the things you have,

5:24

you get spend time with family and friends. And

5:26

I like that there's it's a very relaxing

5:28

enjoyable holiday, but other than cooking

5:31

that

5:31

day, there's not a lot of prep or stress about

5:33

it. It always feels like a very relaxing kind

5:35

of time of year.

5:35

Yeah. Because Christmas is, like, the complete

5:37

up. Yeah. There's a lot of stuff to do. Yeah.

5:39

And then there's, like, the day after

5:42

and the whole weekend after

5:45

lots of time to, like, chill out and veg out.

5:47

I guess, like, Yes. Being

5:50

thankful, spending time with family, those things are all

5:52

great, but I just feel like Thanksgiving

5:54

as an excuse to just like, that's

5:56

the day. I'm just gonna, like, eat.

5:58

Go way overboard and eat way too much

6:00

and, like, feel feel,

6:01

like, bloated and in pain. It's gonna be awesome.

6:03

Like I'm gonna try to do it without a doubt. And

6:06

then a drink. And in

6:07

October, I know it goes through New Year's Eve. Yes.

6:09

Yes.

6:10

It's the holidays. Let's just let's just let

6:12

I'll start in January first. You know. I'm in

6:15

charge. This

6:15

is actually my least favorite because

6:17

I I feel like I'm so tired of drinking and eating

6:19

by that. Oh, yeah.

6:20

It's like That

6:21

starts at Thanksgiving. It goes through Christmas. And then

6:23

by the time New Year's comes. I'm tired of it. Yeah.

6:25

That's why the gym are fun. You just

6:27

have first. Yeah. New Year's is, like, expectations.

6:29

Yes. Oh, what I hope will have in or off.

6:31

You start getting anxious about like --

6:33

Yeah. -- what's my new year gonna be and as opposed

6:35

to just me?

6:36

And I feel lame if I don't do something on New

6:38

Year's. Like, I feel lame if I just stay in, but

6:40

I also that's often what I want

6:41

to do, but Yeah. Yeah. I think this year we

6:44

fell asleep at, like, eleven, you know. So you couldn't

6:46

quite make I'm doing stand up this year. It's the second

6:48

time I build in new years, and that's my favorite thing

6:50

to be honest. It's only my second time doing

6:52

it, but it gives me something to do and it's like, yeah.

6:54

That's Cool. And then you can celebrate with the people --

6:56

Exactly. -- do the countdown. Did you get to go watch

6:58

him and

6:58

I did. I was yeah.

7:00

Did you rate his show, like, one one did one

7:02

did ten?

7:02

I would rate it ten on ten. I was so impressed

7:05

at him. I was

7:05

the very large one being No.

7:08

I was

7:08

really blown away. I was just caught in.

7:10

It's on the bottom. I've never seen you just

7:13

stayed up before, and I've seen you do your weekly

7:15

news thing here, but, you know, it's not

7:17

not real true audience

7:19

there, and it was really great. If

7:21

you'd like to see it, check out

7:22

my new dry bar special. Not big enough

7:24

to cancel available now. Yeah.

7:26

Where's it? Okay. Where can we see it? So

7:28

dry bar it's run by well, they're

7:30

affiliated with they have their own website.

7:32

It's a clean comedy website. So you can

7:34

subscribe and watch it on there or

7:36

they also post clips and then eventually

7:38

the whole specials on YouTube. I'm not sure if

7:40

this one will get simultaneously posted on both

7:43

platforms, but it'll be available on drybar

7:45

dot drybar comedy dot com and

7:47

on YouTube.

7:48

Awesome. You had one joke that

7:50

It's available, man. Yeah. Right. Congratulations.

7:52

There was one joke in particular that I just,

7:54

like, I don't know why this made

7:57

me laugh as hard as I

7:58

did, but it was the joke about

8:00

how you said you want

8:01

you to try to deliver. You said I

8:04

was I will try, but you said, oh,

8:06

I gotta I gotta go take my baby

8:08

so he can

8:09

feed.

8:09

Oh, yes. And he said that's really weird.

8:11

You like babies don't feed, only

8:13

parasites like ticks and leaches feed.

8:16

You wouldn't say, oh, I'm taking my wife to

8:18

dinner for eight and eighth anniversary, so

8:21

she can

8:21

feed. And like I said, in such a way, I,

8:23

like, lost it. How

8:25

can she do on the delivery there? She she cheated

8:27

good on the delivery. The setup was a little bit of

8:29

a meander, but the the that

8:31

Joe

8:31

went on a punch line. When you said it was just a

8:33

punch line. But what I got you I knew it was coming,

8:36

so And then it also reminded me of, like, dudes

8:38

that talk about intermittent fasting and they always

8:40

refer to

8:40

as, yeah, that's, like, when I feed. I'm, like, that's

8:42

so

8:43

weird. Never heard that. You don't feed, do you

8:45

eat? Like, what yes. I I, like, faster sixty

8:47

hours and then for four hours, like, a feed. I'm, like,

8:49

that's

8:49

weird. So I could train. When it was the puppy, I

8:51

was, like, oh my gosh, she's gonna oh, it

8:53

was it sent me.

8:54

On Thanksgiving, we're all gonna feed. Oh,

8:56

yeah.

8:58

Now that is a That

8:59

was a plug in it back. That was a plug in it back.

9:01

You always do a really good job of that. I'm, like,

9:03

the ADD, like, and then you

9:05

always go, well, let me get us

9:07

look, normal segue here. Get us back

9:09

on track. Yeah. But

9:12

holiday traditions for Thanksgiving, I

9:15

don't know if you guys have, like, specific ones. I have

9:17

one of my favorite holiday traditions. I grew up

9:19

in a small town, Mackenzie, Pennsylvania. And

9:22

there's a tradition there that's been going on for

9:24

close to a hundred years now. There's

9:27

this mountain called sheep rock and

9:29

every morning at this isn't

9:31

a

9:31

joke. Shit. Rock and because it's, like,

9:33

everything about,

9:34

like, you said, what's the name of the town? What kind of joke?

9:36

Yeah. That is the name of the town. That sounds like an and then you're

9:38

like, that's

9:38

at five AM on Thanksgiving morning,

9:42

the town gathers like a hundred people

9:44

or so. When it's dark out yet, we have

9:46

flashlights and it's like cold there. Sometimes

9:48

it's in the like twenties or thirties. Sometimes

9:50

it's snowing and we hike about it's like

9:52

two miles up this mountain. And then the

9:54

local pastors rotate having a

9:56

sunrise Thanksgiving service on

9:59

this mountain. Mhmm. And the local boy

10:01

scouts clear the trail the night before back on us

10:03

and boy scouts would camp there overnight and

10:06

clear the trail and hold lanterns as people go

10:08

up. And then the local girl scout troop

10:10

host some hot chocolate and donuts

10:12

at the bottom in the cabin when you come back down.

10:14

It's like I've done it. Almost every year

10:16

growing up and now that I live in

10:19

California, any year that I'm back home in

10:20

Pennsylvania. We always do that.

10:21

That's like so sweet. Reminds me of the Grinch.

10:24

Yeah. I was like, yeah.

10:25

It is. That's We look down on Louisville.

10:27

Oh my god. The reason

10:29

it started in a hundred years ago

10:32

is the story behind it is there was a shepherd

10:34

out with his sheep like, that morning, and they

10:36

get lost in the woods. And sheep braked there. It has,

10:38

like, this kind of rock overhang.

10:41

And that's where he, like, kept his flock warm

10:43

during the snow

10:43

season. Oh, nice. Look. Starting with -- Yeah. --

10:46

awesome. think

10:46

I mean, the Christmas spirit.

10:48

That's my favorite. That's my favorite Thanksgiving

10:50

tradition.

10:51

And then you moved to California where no one does anything

10:53

like that.

10:54

Have a toe for Well, when I do stay out in California

10:56

for Thanksgiving, I just do a friendsgiving, and

10:58

it's it's nice to just do the potluck

11:00

thing. Like I said, it's very relaxing and nice.

11:02

It's great. Well, we you should've told your

11:05

story last -- Yeah. -- oh, it's all gonna be downhill.

11:07

Oh, that's like yours.

11:09

It's like, yeah. We we have Turkey.

11:11

We heads our that's our tradition. What has

11:13

two thumbs and watches the news? This

11:15

guy. And if you watch the news, you might

11:17

be getting depressed about how bad it's things you're

11:19

getting. And if that isn't enough to convince you that

11:22

our future is anything but certain

11:24

that I don't know what is. And if the unthinkable

11:26

should ever happen, being able to reach your loved

11:28

ones is absolutely vital. And let's be honest,

11:30

your fragile little cell phone won't cut it.

11:32

That's why we at the battle on b have partnered with

11:34

the satellite phone store. The revolutionary

11:37

11:39

12:10

Stat 123 dot com slash

12:12

b. We watched the football game if

12:14

we but the only thing that we

12:16

did consistently was the day after

12:19

Thanksgiving, we would always go ice skating,

12:21

and it was -- Nice. -- cool. We just went to a

12:23

local ice skating rink and, like, the whole extended

12:25

family, twenty to thirty people would show up at this

12:27

ice rink and go ice skating. That's awesome though. That's

12:29

really nice. Because that was the crazy Black Friday.

12:31

Like, everybody's out shopping. So nobody's at

12:33

the ice cream because everybody's out buying stuff at the

12:36

malls when that used to be a thing, you know? And then

12:38

we would just all kinda show up as nice relaxing

12:40

time. And then we would feed feed

12:42

at Taco Bell. Nice.

12:44

I like the ice skating thing too because I feel like

12:47

you know, before Thanksgiving is too early

12:49

for, like, winter and Christmas

12:50

activities. But then as soon as day after hits,

12:53

I love the -- Yeah. -- holidays.

12:54

I like the whole Thanksgiving weekend.

12:57

A whole, like, you get such a long

12:58

weekend.

12:58

Yeah. It's relaxing and wonderful. Did

13:01

you guys hike any mountains or

13:03

do any ice skis? I do hike after

13:06

thanksgiving dinner. I I think that that's, like,

13:08

a pretty regular

13:09

quote. Yes. Like, okay. I gotta move. I gotta,

13:11

like, break out of

13:12

It's on the night of or the Yeah. Like, in the

13:14

evening time, maybe, like, before just, like,

13:16

my family also usually hates,

13:19

like, pretty early, like, four PM. Type

13:21

thing -- Okay. -- four or five PM dinner.

13:24

Not super consistent with traditions, but

13:26

one thing that we try to do when we're all together

13:30

My mom's a violinist, and my sister plays

13:32

flute and I play cello. And we actually, like,

13:35

did weddings and events when I was in high

13:37

school and stuff, and I made a little bit of money that

13:39

way. We'll try to get together and practice

13:41

some of, like, our trio songs and musical.

13:43

Yeah. Play some, like, classical music. So that

13:45

kinda, like, brings us together. That's

13:48

something that we try to do

13:49

it. So we might do that this year when we're

13:50

all together for And the whole town gathers around

13:52

you. Let's see. We

13:55

we actually hike a mountain. I bring my cello up. You

13:57

bring the cello up.

13:58

You gotta spice up these stores.

14:00

Yeah. I know. I'm never gonna live up to that,

14:02

Adam. I'm not gonna live up to either of you guys.

14:04

And and so growing up, we would go out to the

14:06

the desert. My my grandma, my grandpa,

14:08

they they lived in desert hot springs, which is

14:10

just north of Palm Springs. And

14:12

that was, like, all the extended family. We would all

14:15

just kind of hang out we so, like,

14:17

our family's kinda scattered all over SoCal, so we

14:19

don't see each other very often. We have, like, some family

14:21

live in Irvine, family that live just

14:24

all over, you know, just different places. And so, like,

14:26

that the Thanksgiving and Christmas

14:28

and, like, maybe one other holiday. Like, that would be, like, the

14:30

one or two days where we'd all kinda

14:33

gather. So is is It's been

14:35

LA or Southern California. It's big. Like, if you're

14:37

-- Yeah. -- on the west side versus being

14:39

on the east

14:40

side. Yeah. It's, like, it's probably not that far away.

14:42

Like, I've got cousins that live in, like, Laguna Niguel,

14:44

but I never see them because it's, like, in

14:46

traffic. What does it

14:46

take to go live? In Laguna Niguel. County feels like a different

14:48

world. So

14:49

Yeah. Just like Yeah. Yeah.

14:51

It's sad. I was talking about how in

14:53

LA and California in general. feels

14:55

very isolating. Like, yeah, I have friends that

14:58

live across town, but I I mean, I'd probably

15:00

be more likely to see them if I was visiting

15:02

from out of

15:02

town. Oh, we gotta make time to, like,

15:04

see you, but it's like You would never make time.

15:06

Yeah. You're there. We'll see you soon. Thanks.

15:09

Can be isolated. It was amazing when I go to another

15:11

city, like, visit Nashville or something, and it's

15:13

like, you drive out of the downtown and it's

15:15

like, there is nothing. You know? I'm just

15:17

like, what? Where did everything go? The one that always pops

15:19

in my head, there's a lot of cities like that. But if you ever been to

15:21

Indianapolis, it's like you're just driving

15:24

through, like, nothing, like, cornfields and

15:26

and then there's just city there. And when you're

15:28

standing in the middle of the city, you can, like,

15:30

look down the rows of

15:31

buildings. And it's, like, there's buildings built, and then it

15:33

stops. It's just,

15:34

like, left you could end up sitting. You didn't

15:36

see where the city had us. Wow.

15:39

I visited family in Kentucky when I was --

15:41

Uh-huh. -- I was probably eight. And I remember being amazed

15:43

at, like, just there'll just be, like, grass like,

15:45

why isn't there anything there? Like, they

15:47

just be like random fields that are just

15:49

open. I'm

15:49

like, that's

15:50

so weird. Like, growing up in SoCal, you

15:52

just see buildings everywhere. Yeah. Such

15:55

so much sprawl. Well, here's quote from Dennis

15:57

Prager because gratitude is the key to happiness.

15:59

Anything that undermines gratitude must

16:01

undermine happiness. And nothing

16:03

undermines gratitude as much as expectations.

16:06

There is an inverse relationship between expectations

16:08

and gratitude. The more expectations

16:11

you have, the less gratitude you will have.

16:13

Here's a quote from another Jewish guy, the thessalonians

16:16

five eighteen, give thanks in all circumstances

16:18

for this is the will of God and Christ

16:21

Jesus for

16:21

you. Very good.

16:24

True

16:25

that.

16:25

So do you think that's true? Do you do you think that

16:28

it's it's not happy people who are

16:30

grateful, but grateful people that are

16:31

happy. I was thinking about

16:33

this the other day, how gratitude

16:37

is a practice. And sometimes gratitude

16:39

comes really naturally. It's like, man, this is such

16:41

a cool thing. I'm so grateful. I'm so thankful.

16:43

And sometimes it's something that you need to

16:45

practice and remind yourself to

16:48

look at your blessings that have become

16:50

the norm and

16:52

then, oh, wait, I have that thing

16:54

that I wanted. Like, that's so cool. I'm so grateful.

16:56

And then you feel happy about

16:58

your like I think I've seen more recently

17:00

just with this whole, like, woke movement and in

17:02

all everything in our culture, the way that our society

17:05

is going. It happens on the right too, but it's

17:07

the difference between just thinking the world owes

17:09

you something, you know, and realizing

17:11

that where we and Jordan Peterson talked

17:14

about this a lot too, but it's like where we are as

17:16

a society just the fact that you have, like, a house

17:18

and, like, there's not warlords

17:20

trying to be hedged you and, you know, like,

17:22

this, like, the that's not the norm

17:24

in in the history of civilization,

17:27

you know. So there's such an

17:29

interesting connection, I think, between I

17:32

don't know. There's there's there's a big divide between the people

17:34

to think the world owes them something. And the

17:36

people who are like, I deserve nothing.

17:38

Yeah. And so any little thing I get is, like,

17:41

just so joyful to

17:42

have, you know. Yeah. Like, those Twitter

17:44

employees probably weren't grateful for the free lunch

17:46

when it was there, but now that he lied to put

17:48

away, they just haven't they haven't expectation.

17:50

Yeah. Well, that's it. It's it's absolutely

17:53

so It's these

17:54

days. The kids ran. Those Twitter

17:56

employees. So I'd tell you what.

17:58

Now that all the lunch items are eaten all. Yes.

18:00

They're Exactly. They're

18:02

upset about that. But you did get

18:04

that feel

18:04

watching, like, those TikTok videos where they're walking through,

18:07

like, oh, yeah. They're they're yeah. There

18:09

seems to be more and more demand, especially in social

18:11

media, like, whether it's whether it

18:13

has to do with, like, the wages that people get paid

18:15

or, you know, things that the government or their schools,

18:18

it it is just a

18:19

constant, like -- Yeah. --

18:20

everything's a human reserve more. We we

18:22

just we're owed more. Mhmm. And,

18:24

you know, it it yeah, people aren't grateful for

18:26

what they have as

18:27

much. Yeah. And it was funny for us to make

18:29

fun of that Twitter video because we we have pretty

18:31

swanky workplace too. Like, with the we

18:34

have good snacks and -- Yeah. -- she doesn't know.

18:36

You know? But I think yeah. I don't

18:38

know. We

18:38

don't have a food court though, so I

18:40

was meaning to talk to you

18:41

about that. okay. We should probably get a food

18:43

court. Okay.

18:44

Yeah. We don't have the non GMO shrimp.

18:46

They're

18:47

not yeah. They can't finish the

18:48

last ice cream today. We ice cream.

18:50

I'm I'm working.

18:50

Okay. I would definitely appreciate more organic

18:53

food because Yeah.

18:56

That's for End of episode. Just

19:00

totally ruin all of our thankful

19:03

jolly chair. Well, Dan, do you wanna

19:05

read this c s Lewis quote

19:07

that you pulled? Yeah. So c

19:09

s Lewis once

19:10

wrote, I had not noticed how the humblest,

19:12

and at the same time, there was balanced and capacious

19:15

capacious. I don't I'd have to look

19:17

up what that means. The most balanced

19:19

and capacious minds praised

19:21

most. While the cranks, misfits,

19:24

and malcontents, praised leased.

19:27

Praise almost seems to be inner health

19:29

made audible. And that's

19:31

in his reflections on the psalms. And I I think

19:33

he was kinda connecting or or, like,

19:35

maybe I was connecting, like, thanksgiving and praise

19:37

that we we praise God for

19:39

who he is, for what he's done,

19:42

for us, for what he's promised to us.

19:44

And then that,

19:45

therefore, we thank him for someone's

19:47

looking up capacious right now. Yeah.

19:49

So it's just your capacity. Right? Capacity.

19:51

So, like, if you're if you're mentally healthy, if you

19:53

if you have a lot space in your brain. A lot of space

19:55

inside your head. AOC

19:58

is capacious. Yeah. So, like, the the

20:00

the people that are always criticizing and are

20:02

always

20:02

cranks. Yeah. They're they're raw weight. They're raw weight. Like

20:04

that phrase, cranks, misfits,

20:09

and alconies, and cranks over at Twitter.

20:12

So I really I really like that that that thing

20:14

at the end where he says, praise almost seems

20:16

to be inner health made audible. And it's

20:18

like when you're praising God,

20:20

internally. Or when you're praising somebody

20:22

else for what they've done or, like,

20:24

you're you're you're kind of externally focused

20:27

you're not focused on what you don't have,

20:29

what you need. It seems like you're

20:31

you're healthy in the sense that you're looking outside

20:33

yourself and you're saying, man.

20:36

That's really great. And then you're you're giving somebody

20:38

or somebody else praise or giving god praise.

20:40

Yeah. It's

20:41

like your cup is so full. You have abundance.

20:44

You have your cup spilleth over -- Yeah.

20:46

--

20:46

instead of whack. I need more.

20:50

I'm a malconte. Yeah. In a mess.

20:52

That's gotta make the crew you real. Man, man.

20:57

I like that word capacious. It just feels

20:59

like Pacious has a great Pacious too.

21:01

I have room for

21:02

more, but I'm just like

21:03

Capacious and

21:04

crank. There's space.

21:06

So our office is

21:07

our office capacious. We

21:08

got very capacious. Very capacious.

21:11

No.

21:11

I don't know if I'm using that. I'm really glad we looked this

21:13

up. Yeah. Yeah. Well,

21:16

let's talk about some of things we're grateful for Romans

21:18

four eight. Unless it is the man against whom the Lord

21:20

does not count his sin. Obviously,

21:23

with all the things that we're thankful for, salvation

21:25

to common grace. Everything God gives us in

21:27

life. Like this John Calvin quote, we are surrounded

21:29

by God's benefits. The best use of these benefits

21:32

is an unceasing expression of gratitude.

21:35

wanna know what JR Tolkien said because

21:37

I haven't read this yet. Oh, this is great. Yeah.

21:39

Schoolchild once wrote to Tolkien for

21:41

a school project, and her question

21:43

to the Tolkien was, what is the purpose of

21:45

life? And he has, like,

21:47

this this kind of winding letter And

21:49

he kinda says it's it's both too long and too

21:51

short for that that kind of a question. But

21:54

he says at the end, so it may be said that the chief

21:56

purpose of life for any one of

21:58

us is to increase according to our capacity,

22:00

our knowledge of God by all the means

22:02

that we have and to be moved by it to

22:04

praise and thanks. That's a great

22:06

quote. Yeah.

22:07

So, like, our whole process is to get

22:09

things Absolutely. Capacity in it. Yeah. That's

22:12

why it's a Capacious quote. Yeah. See

22:15

as Lewis gratitude looks to the past and love

22:18

to the

22:18

present, fear, avarice, lust, and ambition,

22:20

look ahead.

22:21

We're just talking about that quote. Nice. Look

22:24

at all the sea is loose. We have some other words

22:26

gratitude disclaims very properly

22:28

how good of God to give me

22:30

this. Oh, nice. There

22:33

was a really funny anecdote that

22:35

I I had from going to the Desiring God

22:37

Conference. Do you remember those with John

22:39

Piper? I don't know if he still does them or

22:41

or not. Sure. But he was, like, kinda talking

22:43

to the crowd before he got going, and he was,

22:45

like, you know, you woke up

22:47

today. You're not in hell. It's a good day.

22:49

And and everyone

22:50

started laughing. And he's, like, why are you laughing? It's

22:52

very interesting. Yeah. So

22:54

it's like I think it's like realizing what we deserve

22:56

-- Yeah. --

22:56

and then

22:57

what we've been given instead. I like this Covino

22:59

Lewis, a man who is eating or lying with his wife

23:01

or preparing to go to sleep in humility, thankfulness,

23:04

and temperance, temperance, is

23:06

by Christian standards in an infinitely higher

23:08

state than one who is listening to Bakk or reading

23:11

Plato in a state of

23:12

pride. That's

23:14

an interesting one. We've read that Tolkien one.

23:17

Alright. Well, what are some of the things we're thankful for

23:19

before we this is gonna be a short episode, by

23:21

the way. Before we bump into our

23:22

scriber. Oh,

23:23

maybe Maybe we have a lot to be thankful for it.

23:25

No. That's not what I meant. I just I

23:28

was like, well, this is gonna be

23:29

What do mean? What do I mean? What do I this

23:31

is really true. Wow.

23:35

Oh, man.

23:38

I'm thankful for Buckeys. Mhmm. So

23:41

I can think of because I'm staring at giant Buckey

23:43

bush right in front of

23:44

me. We

23:44

had a great time down there. So cool.

23:46

What a cool thing we get to do for a job? I just

23:48

love I love the bizarre random

23:51

stuff, like, and I'm touring the arc with

23:52

Kenham. You have these surreal moments

23:54

like like, wow. Why

23:56

am I here?

23:58

This

23:58

is an incredible job. And I started working

24:00

with you guys this year. So that's like a huge

24:02

blessing, and I'm super thankful for that

24:04

I get to

24:05

laugh every day. Around. Yeah.

24:07

Thanks, Kyle. Just I just think that it's so

24:09

cool that we get to transmute all the chaos around

24:11

us every day. Transmute

24:13

the chaos. One, can somebody look up transmute --

24:15

Come on, guys. -- be honest. I just get the

24:17

more I hear about politics and, like, I get I really

24:19

bogged down, like, really quick. And I'm, like, See, I I'm

24:22

getting too deep into

24:22

it. We gotta we gotta make fun of this somehow, and

24:25

it really Transmute is a gender nonconforming mine.

24:31

A mom who was born a male. Wait

24:33

a row in a really good word. It's trans

24:36

it was like transform. I guess it's been

24:38

transformed. I know what TransUnion

24:39

meant. You're you're kinda right though. Like, I feel like our

24:41

whole culture is going crazy. Like,

24:43

it's in if if it's apart from

24:45

God, that's all they have is is

24:48

worried and freaking out about the news --

24:49

Yeah. -- worried about freaking about who's gonna be

24:51

president in the next two years. Yeah. You

24:54

just have chaos and people are going crazy

24:56

about

24:56

it. And, like, we're able to look at

24:59

the chaos and be like, hey, let's laugh.

25:01

Let's let's

25:01

find something funny in this. Remind everyone where

25:03

the reality is. Yeah. It's great to have

25:05

you guys because it just it

25:07

does keep me really sane. And laughter,

25:10

I think also really points out where

25:12

the line of reality and sanity

25:14

is, you know, and it breaks up all that chaotic

25:16

energy. It's like,

25:18

I'm I'm thankful for our coworker,

25:20

Travis, who got hit by a bus.

25:22

I'm not I'm not thankful that he got hit by bus. And

25:25

just what happened? That he's okay. I

25:27

think I'm very thankful. He says it's okay.

25:29

And actually, he he has managed to come

25:31

on screen and record a Travis's video

25:33

game corner for

25:34

us. So let's let's take a look

25:36

at that now. This show is sponsored by

you ever wish that life came with a user manual?

25:43

You know, I used to have an nineteen seventy seven

I wish life came with a repair manual like

26:42

The first thing I did after

26:45

I got hit by a bus was boot

26:47

up an old classic Dreamcast video

26:49

game called Shenmue. I

26:52

don't know what Shenmue means,

26:55

and no one in the game is called Shenmue.

26:58

Main characters ryu Hayuzuki. And

27:00

he knows martial arts. It

27:03

is an RPG that started life as a

27:05

virtue fighter RPG and

27:07

then eventually drops the virtue fighter

27:10

gag, and

27:12

most of the fighting. You do very little

27:14

fighting in the game. You spend most of your

27:16

time walking around and asking if

27:19

anyone has seen any sailors. And

27:21

then when they say, no, he goes, I

27:24

see. It's a very

27:26

boring game. With

27:28

very interesting ideas that

27:30

never live up to fulfillment. And

27:35

that kind of comes to fruition with.

27:37

It's near

27:39

the end of the game when you're required to

27:41

work as a forklift

27:44

driver to advance the product.

27:47

It's a plot. Sorry, I have

27:49

a concussion. And also,

27:52

There are no guns or aliens or

27:54

anything. No explosions.

27:57

It's a very boring. So

28:00

anyway, in Xinyu too, you go to China,

28:02

and that's where I am now. And

28:05

you also have to work in

28:08

that game as well, but it doesn't make any sense

28:10

because you're

28:13

there to avenge your father's

28:15

death and you keep getting a job

28:17

so that you can live. It's like they

28:19

do all the things where, okay, yeah,

28:21

technically, he would have to make money. But

28:24

normally, you would skip past that with a montage

28:27

or something. Why am I going

28:29

around swindling people into gambling as

28:31

part of the gameplay? It's very strange.

28:34

All I wanna do is run around and fight people and

28:36

you can't you can't do it. I can't

28:38

mean occasionally you can in

28:40

certain situations, but

28:44

the game tries so hard to be realistic that

28:47

they limit how much fighting you can do because no

28:49

one can realistically beat up fifty people

28:52

once

28:53

unless you're a brutalist. That

28:57

means Bruce Lee.

29:01

I heard a joke once evaparously where

29:04

it says, what's his favorite drink? I

29:06

will say that all of us are you know,

29:08

a lot of us come from comedy backgrounds

29:10

or, you know, we're we're we try to aspire to be

29:12

comedy

29:12

writers. We hired Travis as kind of a normal,

29:15

like, copywriter guy. And he is,

29:17

I think, the funniest

29:18

person. His delivery just just of

29:20

the way he can just say

29:21

something. So natural.

29:22

It's very funny. Yeah. Like,

29:23

when you watch those Travis video again in corners, you might

29:26

think, like, oh, they wrote a funny nerd bit

29:28

for

29:28

him. No. Get out here and we just turn the camera. That one we

29:30

didn't even plan. He sat down and started talking to me

29:32

about video game and then I left and we just

29:34

hit record.

29:37

So yeah. I love that guy. Yeah.

29:39

Feel better soon, Travis.

29:40

Probably a Travis.

29:41

Road to recovery from a concussion can be a

29:43

long one. Yeah. Mhmm.

29:44

Love you. T dog.

29:46

Yeah. T dog. No.

29:49

I heard Chuckles.

29:50

Yeah. I've been in your laughter and the other Yeah. I

29:53

just I made it funny. Yeah.

29:55

Friends, family health. You know, know it's I

29:57

think in the middle of politics, you can start

29:59

to get too anxious and fearful, especially when the

30:01

other parties running everything or

30:03

Oh, okay. Everything is going a heck, but -- Mhmm.

30:06

-- I'm very thankful for my family. I'll get to go

30:08

home and see them this year in Pennsylvania. Okay.

30:10

Some years I spend it out here. I always love

30:12

I I love thanksgiving either way. If I'm here in

30:14

California, I'm thankful for the time that I

30:16

get to spend with friends here. If I go back

30:18

home, it's great to see my parents and my brothers and

30:20

my family there. I'm

30:23

very thankful for the the Babylon B

30:25

and the work we get to do here. When

30:27

you guys came to my show in Texas, I'm also just very

30:29

grateful that between stand up and

30:31

comedy writing in this that I get to do something

30:33

like this. It's my life, you know. It's that

30:35

old thing they say, you know, where, like, if you find a way

30:37

to make money doing something you love, you'll never work

30:40

with Right. It it is, like, I feel blessed

30:42

every time I get on stand up stage. It's like, how

30:44

is it that I get to do this? Mhmm. And

30:46

you know what? Pop in my head when you were saying about,

30:48

you know, in the midst of politics and everything.

30:51

One thing that I I think how it's very divisive,

30:53

but we have so much to be grateful for. I

30:55

think when I got into comedy and specifically

30:58

stand up, I was always grateful

31:00

for being able to make people laugh

31:02

and be able to see other people that make me laugh.

31:04

But one of the things that sort of come from traveling

31:06

to do stand up is I'm very grateful for

31:08

this whole country. It's like when we get

31:10

to go for a weekend and like step

31:13

off a plan and you're in Texas the week

31:15

before that, you know, if I'm in in Florida, Sometimes

31:17

I'm here in California. There's people from, like,

31:19

all of the political spectrum and stuff, but when you

31:22

actually get to see these different locations

31:24

and get to interact with the people and just see

31:26

the the view, the landscapes, and the cities,

31:28

and everything. It's just I really am grateful for

31:30

this country and just all the people here and all

31:32

that it

31:32

has. Yeah. Awesome. Treasure

31:35

in heaven is great, but it's not gonna

31:37

buy you a tank of gas. So let's take a moment

31:39

to briefly review the current state of our economy

31:42

and the global affect the war between Russia

31:44

and Ukraine has had. We're in for a tough year

31:46

here, and Biden's printing and spending

31:48

could be catastrophic for the US dollar

31:50

in in the market. That's why a growing number

31:53

of financial analysts are recommending

31:55

31:57

now. And the only company we recommend

32:59

We got family friends that

33:02

I get to work at the Babylon B. Just

33:05

for all the reasons that you guys were saying, but, like,

33:07

you know, I get to I get to just do kinda whatever

33:09

I wanna do. I I can plan a

33:11

podcast, I can write a script. IIII

33:14

have the opportunity to do kinda

33:16

whatever I wanna play with that

33:18

day. You know, it's it's it's it's so so much fun.

33:20

Yeah. You did a great job Dan wrote our

33:23

if women had the same rights as guns. Oh, yeah.

33:25

Yeah. That was his pitch. And I only read the

33:26

script.

33:27

Did turn out well. Yeah. And

33:28

was that your first script you read? It was my first one.

33:30

You just killed it. It's really job. You know,

33:32

just just no.

33:33

I'm not saying I'm not bringing that up so

33:34

they can all pray to you. But I think that's really just

33:37

the idea that, like, I get to do this for a living.

33:39

I get to I get to pay my bills by

33:42

doing that. Like, how how how I, you

33:44

know, I couldn't have planned that, you know. Yeah.

33:46

It's such such a cool gift.

33:47

Yeah.

33:47

I think, like, I was writing those jokes, these

33:49

bits for Ted Cruz to read on when he did the game.

33:52

I was like, how is

33:52

this? How are you, Brad? was when it surreal. Surreal.

33:55

Like, yeah. How's this happening? That when he

33:57

when he drops the zodiac

33:58

paper, which think is great upon. That was,

34:00

like, the greatest moment. It was so good. Good.

34:02

Yeah. We interviewed John Kleece this year. got

34:04

to go to Freedom Fast, so he's just, like, goodness.

34:08

Wow. Yeah. My This is a real thing. My

34:10

favorite thing was, like, he with him driving

34:12

away in he's, you know, he's a little older,

34:14

so he's got the mobility scooter after he's been walking

34:16

around all day and just seeing him go away.

34:18

Go, wee. Just

34:21

from me driving to, like, running over people

34:23

driving through the crowd. And it's just yeah.

34:25

That was just amazing. Well,

34:27
