Paul Shirey (The Beard) interviews legendary director Walter Hill for The Beard and The Bald Movie Podcast! Hill is the director behind such action classics as The Warriors, 48 Hours, Red Heat, Johnny Handsome, Streets of Fire, Extreme Prejudice, The Long Riders, Last Man Standing, and Trespass, amongst others.
Hill's latest film is the western Dead For A Dollar starring Christoph Waltz, Willem Dafoe, and Rachel Brosnahan. The director discusses his penchant for the western genre, casting the main characters, and his intent to tell a smaller story. Hill also talks about his cult hits like Streets of Fire and Johnny Handsome, as well as giving some insight into the sound design behind the weapons used in his films and how they play into the individual characters.
In addition, Hill provides insight into the difference between a "bomb" and a "dog" and how you never want a "dog-bomb" of a film. He clarifies his involvement in the Alien franchise and gives his perception of what ingredients make a great action film.
