Welcome to the Big Niang Theory. Let

0:02

me ask questions my podcast. Joel

0:05

is a card shark, Danny gets swindled

0:07

fashion. I just like stuff that looks greatness,

0:10

just breads greatness, and we all fit right

0:12

in. Welcome

0:15

back, everybody to the Big Niang

0:17

Theory. Today, our guest Shake

0:21

Milton. I

0:23

was actually super excited to get Shake, you

0:25

know, on this podcast because he's

0:28

actually a super cool dude, and

0:31

you know, we've had a special bond

0:34

this year, and he actually

0:36

was one of the first teammates that I even met

0:38

when I, you know, first came to the Sixers.

0:41

And I feel like this episode

0:43

I learned more about him than I actually

0:45

thought that I knew. There's so much diversity

0:49

you know, to Shake and the things that he likes to do and

0:51

how he handles his life. And I'm

0:54

super excited to to share

0:56

this episode because I feel like everybody's

0:58

gonna learn more about Shake and he's such

1:00

a fascinating person and such a

1:03

good person. I feel like that that's the best part. Shake

1:05

is a little bit of an international man of mystery,

1:07

and it was really cool to unlock some of

1:09

that today. And he's also sort of universally

1:12

beloved, and I think that that's something

1:14

that upon listening

1:16

to this conversation, I think people are gonna understand why.

1:19

That's all I'll say, so without further ado,

1:21

Here's shake Milton. Yeah,

1:25

I know. Welcome

1:31

back everybody to the Big Kneeg

1:33

Theory. Today we have a special

1:36

guest who I'm hoping you

1:38

guys get to know a lot

1:40

more about the one

1:43

the only Shake Milton,

1:45

shake and bake the microwave. Yes, sir,

1:47

my guy. Gee, what's up? Welcome, Welcome

1:50

on. Lauren is also here. She's present.

1:53

Thank you for making my presence. Know. Hey,

1:55

I just want to let the people know, but shake

1:57

before we you know, dive

2:00

and getting to know you. How, how

2:02

have you enjoyed this season? I know it's

2:04

kind of been a roller coaster

2:07

for you with you know, injuries,

2:09

you know, new roles, roster turnover.

2:13

How has it been for you personally and what

2:15

do you look forward to, you know, with the

2:17

end of the season coming up? Yeah? Bro,

2:20

overall I say it's been smooth like. It's

2:22

definitely had some rough patches like being

2:24

up and down, being like hurt and

2:27

then you catching COVID and being away from

2:29

the team that was tough too, But

2:32

no, man, just I've been kind of just

2:34

learning to roll with the punches and

2:36

just have a little like giving into

2:38

life a little bit, you know, just kind

2:40

of come, you know, taking what comes and rolling

2:43

with him in. So it's been great. And just

2:45

my attitude towards everything coming

2:48

up is in a good light too, So I'm

2:50

smooth. Yeah. No, It's funny that you

2:52

say, like your attitude stays

2:55

the same, because when I first met you,

2:57

when we were in Vegas, you know, they're all like, oh, yeah,

2:59

come to Vegas, you know, meet the Summer League

3:01

guys, Like we'll have a couple of our guys there.

3:04

Shake was the only one there, and uh

3:07

we ended up going through a workout and uh I

3:09

remember asking Shack. I'm like, yo,

3:11

like, are the fans like really that

3:13

crazy? He's like, bro, I'm

3:16

gonna give it to you like this. Just

3:18

keep looking forward, he

3:20

was like, don't get He's like, don't get too high,

3:23

don't get too low. It just keep

3:25

looking forward. And like when you say that, like

3:27

obviously, when someone says that, you're almost

3:29

to the point where you're like, all right, give me

3:31

the real But as I watched like

3:33

how our season, your season

3:35

plans out, Like you literally that

3:38

injury you had and or you had COVID

3:40

first, right covid.

3:43

Yeah, you had COVID first, and then

3:45

you had the injury with you a training camp issue

3:47

too, injury wise, Yeah, it

3:49

was the ankle, Like Lauren just

3:56

Shake's healthy, trying

3:58

to say that you've overcome a lot. It wasn't just COVID

4:01

and then the back. It was it started in training

4:03

camp, which we've seen in years past,

4:05

Matisse last year, You're always going to be

4:07

at a disadvantage if you can't participate in training

4:09

camp. That's really hard. Yeah, and

4:11

then you know you just like

4:14

like you told me, you just kept your head down. I mean, I

4:16

don't think people understand like how serious

4:18

the whole back issue. Like when I was watching

4:20

Shake like work out, it was like almost

4:22

like he was like aching, going like

4:25

so I'm slow, but when I see someone

4:27

doing moves slower than me, yeah, I'm like

4:29

something really must be wrong. Man.

4:31

It was just like it was just

4:33

slow motion. Like that whole period

4:36

was really slow motion. For me. I had

4:38

to like really just sit down and be

4:40

like man, you know what, like it's out of my hands,

4:42

Like I gotta just he'll get healthy and then

4:45

you know what I mean, make plays because you know, us as like athletes,

4:47

we just want to like go go go, like

4:50

just continue to be on the court, crazy

4:52

and getting better whatnot. But like

4:54

I have the same problem at the dinner team. But yeah,

4:57

you know what I mean. But sometimes like just

4:59

to you to sit down for a second. Yeah,

5:01

that's what it was, you know, speaking of

5:04

life moving slow. Hopefully you don't

5:06

get too offended. Better, but you're from Oklahoma,

5:08

right, yes, sir, I can't imagine

5:11

life being too fast in Oklahoma.

5:14

How was talk about like your journey

5:16

that transitioned from Oklahoma to

5:19

SMU then to

5:21

Philadelphia, what adjustments?

5:23

What did you think your

5:26

future was going to be and then what

5:28

has it ended up being? Yeah, man,

5:30

I mean shoot, in Oklahoma, like high

5:33

school, I was just trying to get in like

5:35

a good college and pick

5:37

a good college to where like I knew I would be able to

5:40

come in contribute do my thing a little bit. Like

5:42

I wanted to be an NBA player and

5:44

that was on my mind, but like that wasn't like

5:47

it wasn't like the end all be all, Like I wasn't

5:49

gonna like, you know what I mean. So for

5:51

me, that's what it was. And I knew going to SMU would

5:53

give me a little bit of a shot because we had Larry Brown

5:55

there as the coach, and you know, I was

5:57

seeing what he was able to do in Dallas.

5:59

So I went there, and you know, my

6:02

first couple of years, I you know, I mean, it did

6:04

pretty decent. Second year, we won like a conference

6:06

championship, and I saw, you know, a

6:08

couple of my teammates went pro, and

6:10

I was like, oh, like, I'm actually that could be me.

6:12

Yeah, you know what I mean, Like I'm closer than what I really

6:14

think I am. So and then after that I just

6:16

really locked into it and ended up

6:18

making a chump man and and luckily, you

6:21

know, it kind of panned out. Yeah,

6:23

And you know what you are, You're

6:26

blessed because you know you are

6:28

in the same place that you know you

6:30

started. You know, not too many people in

6:33

their NBA career get to stick

6:35

around for their whole

6:37

you know, or most of their NBA career in one

6:39

place. Not saying that you're going to be here

6:41

forever, but wink wink,

6:43

And I know I'm just kidding. Yeah,

6:46

but you know there's a chance that there's there's a chance

6:49

that you are, and there's a chance that you are. But the fact

6:51

that you know you've developed and grown

6:53

here and you know, like I've told you before, you've

6:55

had big games and big moments and

6:57

like really established yourself as

6:59

you know, an NBA player here, I think

7:01

that you know there's a there's

7:04

an important piece of that because you know, I've

7:06

had to jump ship in different

7:08

places and you know how emotional I am. Like any

7:10

team that I've left, I've been like you forget

7:13

them, like I hope you do. So you know the

7:15

fact that you've been able to grow here, I

7:17

got a question for you, bro, what do you think is like the biggest

7:19

thing for you, like with daling with all those different like

7:21

variabilities, you know what I mean, Like you never really

7:23

know what's being thrown at you and what's coming

7:26

your way, So how do you you know what I mean, stay

7:28

locked in? Yeah? No, I think the biggest

7:30

thing for me though, is you is

7:33

easy. As it's said, you know, you

7:35

want to take the emotion out of it, but

7:37

obviously I'm an emotional person. But you really

7:39

just have to go into it and keep

7:42

it or take it as like surface level,

7:44

like you know, I'm here to do my job. You

7:46

know, obviously you're allowed to

7:48

to fall in love with the city, fall in love with

7:50

the people that you're around, but also

7:53

realizing that it's a part of heartbreak is also like

7:55

a part of the job of it. And just because you have your

7:57

heart broken one time, you

7:59

know, it doesn't mean that you're not You shouldn't

8:02

get up and try to love the you know, experience

8:05

that you've you've been in. How do you feel

8:07

about that? And

8:09

you're giving me this look like Georgia's just given

8:11

the people a bunch of bs. No, you're not. I

8:13

was actually gonna make another

8:16

connection. You guys were drafted in around the

8:18

same range, right, and then

8:20

we were in the same draft. No, no, not

8:22

twenty sixteen, you're twenty seventeen, twenty

8:25

eighteen. That's yoh

8:28

my god. You're trying to add my add years to me late

8:33

second round and you've both

8:35

had to fight your way into NBA rotations.

8:38

What number were you fifty four? I

8:40

was fifty. Those fifties

8:42

they get there. There's

8:45

some gems like Paul redfty P,

8:48

But you guys know that a lot of people that get drafted

8:50

in the fifties are no longer in the league,

8:52

right, So you guys share in common figuring out

8:54

a way different breed, different

8:56

breed. Me and Shake are just different.

8:59

It's just different, you know, Like Shake said, you

9:01

just I'm gonna keep my head, head down, looking

9:03

straight, keep doing it. Now. I'll definitely

9:05

give you, give you credit. There is like not

9:08

a day that whether it's an off day or

9:11

you know, a blackout day that

9:13

you know, I may sneak in that Shakes not

9:16

in there, you know, working on that

9:18

you know, lefty drive or step

9:21

back mid range that we saw against

9:23

the Miami heat time after

9:26

time after time. Um.

9:29

Yeah, no, So I just think for

9:32

me seeing how you work, you

9:34

know, obviously you're just a diligent

9:37

worker. And I think from how I look at

9:39

it, as like you never take no for

9:41

an answer. You know, you're just never gonna quit.

9:43

At the end of the day, you were kicking down

9:45

someone's doing be like, I'm I'm here to

9:47

stay. I mean, shoot, that's part of it, right, That's

9:49

that's probably why we stuck around,

9:51

you know, I mean, as long as we have Um,

9:54

I'll pull up to the gym at nighttime, you

9:56

know what I mean, thinking, I'm you know, getting getting

9:59

one over on on some folks, you know what I mean, getting some

10:01

work in, and I'll seeg in there working

10:03

with his man. I'm like, yo, dang, I

10:05

gotta show up earlier, you know what I mean, Like, yeah, I gotta

10:08

get there earlier. So no, yeah,

10:10

I guess is you just part of the process. Man.

10:12

One of your friends on this team who also

10:14

puts in a lot of work is Tyrese. And I've

10:16

really enjoyed watching you and Tyrese bond.

10:19

And I think that there's a misconception a little

10:21

bit that last season, when you think about playoffs,

10:24

you guys were sort of like in competition for

10:26

minutes you weren't sort of in competition minutes you were. And

10:29

I think externally that sort of looks

10:32

like you guys might be pitted against each other,

10:34

But then behind the curtain, you guys are good

10:36

friends. You're challenging each other. That's continued

10:38

this season, but you're also sort

10:40

of his vet. So can you give us a little bit

10:42

more insight into what your relationship is like with

10:44

Tyrese and what it's been like to watch him

10:46

this year? Man, that's that's that's

10:48

my bro, that's my dog man. That's like

10:51

I've just seen him grow. He

10:54

was supposed to come mess with me with SMU.

10:56

I'm still you know, I still get at him about the snake.

10:59

Yeah he did, he did,

11:02

he did on the level, but it's all good, yo. But just

11:04

seeing him blossom into

11:06

what he is, like he's a star. Like just

11:09

the work that he puts in and the way he comes out and

11:11

performs each and every night. Um

11:14

has been crazy. And we always like bouncing

11:16

ideas off each other, you know what I mean, always

11:19

speaking to each other just because we see the game kind

11:21

of similarly and we kind of go through the

11:23

same things, especially dealing with you know what i mean,

11:26

coaches and you know, like just the whole

11:28

experience of being an NBA player. And for

11:30

those who don't know, his dad coached

11:32

you briefly correct, but yeah, his dad

11:34

was a part of the coaching staff at SMU for a

11:37

year. So that was that was fun

11:39

too. I thought we were gonna get him, dang, and he still

11:41

didn't gonna. Yeah, where's

11:43

that kid's? Little kid is different? Yea kid

11:45

is different. But you know, like speaking

11:47

on to like competing, you know, four

11:49

minutes. I think, you know, on

11:51

this team for you know, the time that I've been

11:53

here, even though we're like competing

11:56

for minutes with each other, Like I feel like

11:58

we all have a genuine happiness for

12:00

the other person. Like if we're not playing and they're

12:02

playing, well, like there's a

12:04

genuine happen and that I can promise you

12:07

is not happening everywhere,

12:09

that's for sure where you know. I mean at the

12:11

beginning of the year, you know, Tyrese

12:15

was starting, then you were starting, then you know, you had

12:17

your ankle injury. And it's just like, no

12:19

matter what has happened, everybody seems

12:21

to be genuinely happy for another person.

12:23

And I think that's important. And you

12:26

know, I feel like someone like to Bias,

12:29

even though you know we joke around with him,

12:31

he gets the good vibration

12:36

that kind of like keeps everybody on the same way. And

12:38

then now Tyrese is just like his

12:40

like you know, you play like telephone.

12:42

Now Tyrese is I don't know, like yeah,

12:45

you know what I mean. It just it kind of goes all

12:47

around the team, man, and um, you

12:49

know, nobody wants to be like the person where

12:51

the team wins, and then you know you're sitting

12:53

there salty, and I'll say, like, we don't have

12:56

that type of person on this team at all. So

12:59

um, it's always fun just being

13:01

around the guys and seeing do succeed

13:03

at what they do. Now, Shake,

13:07

we're hearing a lot about the basketball

13:10

Shake. What does Shake like to

13:12

do in his free

13:14

time? What are some hobbies?

13:17

You know what I mean? Just to put a little bit more color

13:19

behind this question, George and I were talking

13:21

about what we're going to talk to you about. What

13:24

God, George and I were

13:26

talking about what we were going to talk to you about.

13:28

And I said to him, and this is maybe an indictment on me

13:30

and the work that I've done with you, but We've

13:32

been together for almost four years, and

13:35

I don't know a ton about you. I

13:37

know, I enjoy you a lot, and I think we have

13:39

like a good dynamic for sure, But you are

13:41

a quieter guy. You're a little bit more reserved, and

13:43

I think people don't know a ton about you. So

13:46

it's a really good question because people want to know,

13:48

is that like my demeanor is that like? Is that is

13:50

that what it comes from? I could see that I'll

13:52

be chilling, because I mean every everybody

13:54

just has that vibe, like a different

13:56

vibe, some like my vibe when I come into a room,

13:59

like you're gonna on my presence I'm here, I

14:01

mean like it was sad. Yeah,

14:03

but there's other people that you know, walk in

14:05

and kind of like scout the room

14:08

and see where the energy is a before they decided

14:10

to like dive into the diving for whatever

14:12

reason. But you are like, how

14:15

do I put this in the right Like the coolest kid out

14:17

like your chill, you have your confidence

14:19

about you, but you're not gonna outwardly like

14:22

put it out there. But if someone were to come up

14:24

to you and have a conversation, they could chop it up for you and be

14:26

like, oh man, like that dude, super

14:28

cool. But for the people that I've never had a conversation

14:30

with you, they're like, oh, well, I don't really know. Because you

14:32

know, Lauren's afraid to get out of her comfort zone and probably

14:35

ask you like vulnerable questions. That's probably

14:37

why she doesn't have That's why people are going to love

14:39

this episode. So give us

14:41

the details, man. Well know, people came up

14:43

to me and be like, oh man, Shake, You're so cool. You're

14:46

nice. Like I thought you were gonna be like a jerk. I

14:48

thought you were gonna be this. I was like, Yo, that's

14:50

crazy. Quick story. So, my

14:53

mom when I first got here,

14:55

was staying at my place and she was like going

14:57

over the roster and she was like, um,

15:00

who is uh Malik? And

15:03

I was like, Mom, we don't have

15:05

someone named Malik on a team. She

15:07

was like, oh, oh, it says his name is Malik

15:10

here, but do you guys call him like Shake?

15:12

And and then my mom

15:14

was like or I was like, yeah, you know, we

15:16

we call him Shake. And I was like, I

15:19

would never want to call him Malik.

15:21

I'd be concerned on what he says. So until

15:23

I heard someone call you that, Like, in my head, I

15:25

was always like, has someone ever been like Malik? And

15:27

Shake just turns and snaps.

15:30

But weirdly enough, the Malik

15:32

to Shake story about your dad, which

15:34

you can tell if you want, but that's like the only thing

15:36

people do know about you. Yeah, It's like you watch,

15:38

especially if you watch a national TV broadcast, you

15:40

can guarantee that you're going to get the story about get

15:43

the story right. Yeah, And so maybe

15:45

maybe we should just skip it. Yeah, don't

15:47

tell that story. Tell us other things. Okay,

15:50

it's cool though that you have a cool nickname. Just gonna like

15:52

open that out there, just like tell us other things.

15:55

We already know the story, you

15:57

know what I mean, Like, what do you want to know? I mean, I

15:59

don't know. I'd be chilling. I like, I'll

16:02

do yoga. Um, I'm always interested

16:04

in learning, like I like on

16:06

YouTube, like self betterment stuff.

16:09

I collect shoes. That's probably like

16:11

my guilty habit. Like yeah,

16:13

yeah, yeah, I don't spend a lot of money doing

16:15

crazy stuff or doing like buying like

16:17

material things, but shoes. I

16:20

I gotta have the shoes. True or false.

16:22

You and Tobias have the same shoe size. Oh

16:25

yeah, thankfully sometimes Tobias

16:27

Halla, I mean boy for

16:31

yeah, you're fifteen fourteen, fifteen,

16:33

Yeah, and Tobias has been known to sometimes

16:36

Yeah, I know, he'll he'll bless the kid.

16:38

He'll bless the kid with some Kobes man. But

16:41

nah, yeah, Tobias will definitely drop

16:43

some some Kobe some unreleased like different

16:46

color ways that never even seen

16:48

on the market. So it's also interesting that you

16:50

mentioned yoga because you're not the only guy

16:52

on this team that enjoys it. So how did you find yoga?

16:55

Do you guys ever talk about your yoga bonds?

16:58

I mean, shoot, probably with matiues. I feel like Matis,

17:00

he's out there, you know what I mean. That's the

17:02

cool thing with Matisse too, Like I can always

17:05

come to him about some like outside

17:08

idea that I have and like just

17:10

bounce it off him and see how. You know what I mean, what other

17:12

people would be like, Yo, what are you talking about? What

17:14

are you talking about? I was thinking about that too.

17:16

Yeah yeah, yeah, so that's

17:19

cool. But um yeah,

17:21

that's just something to keep the mind

17:23

body right, you know what I mean. Helt

17:26

his wealth? How do I find it?

17:29

I feel like it was off and on, like college

17:33

and stuff like that, and then even PRO used

17:35

to like I mean at the six Ers, I used to have

17:37

somebody come in and teach yoga a little bit, and

17:40

eventually you just learning more about it and and

17:42

then once you start to experience the benefits for yourself,

17:45

it's just like, well, you know what I mean, I'm

17:47

gonna pick it up and start doing it. So but

17:50

um yeah, you've told me about meditation

17:53

too, which is something that multiple guys on this team

17:55

share So can you tell me more about how you

17:57

found meditation and who you share that with? Meditation?

18:01

Can I ask you this about meditation? So, like

18:04

how when

18:06

you meditate, like do you do

18:08

it for a certain period of time and set your time or

18:10

because I've tried, like meditation, you know, you

18:12

turn on like the music that like you

18:15

hear and like you know when you're getting a massage

18:17

at like professional places, and I

18:19

cannot seem to stay awake,

18:21

Like I'll put it on and then I'll be asleep for

18:23

two hours. I used to. I used to do it like that

18:26

like crazy, but now it's it's I'm I

18:28

try to just make it like the way I live,

18:30

you know, Like if I really feel like I need to sit

18:33

down and take my time, like in

18:35

a dark room and close my eyes, and I'll do it.

18:37

But like otherwise, man, I just try

18:39

to make it the way I live. And it's not even

18:41

about controlling your thoughts or whatever. It's

18:43

just I mean kind of letting them see them and

18:45

not holding any attachment to them, you know what I

18:47

mean, Just letting them come and then let them

18:49

go, and then being present, yeah,

18:52

being present for real. But I would say, like things

18:54

that I'm into, I would I'm

18:56

just I'm trying to just be more creative,

18:58

tapping them more of my creative side, whether

19:00

that be like, um, drawing or

19:02

designing or coming up with with ideas

19:05

that I could tangibly see

19:07

myself, you know, I mean putting into existence.

19:09

So, so do you like freelance like

19:11

draw or like design stuff on like computer

19:14

at home? Yeah, at home, like I'll try

19:16

to like mess with some sneakers or clothes

19:18

or you know, I mean something like that. Oh, so

19:20

you have like a super like creative

19:23

mind then, because if someone put like a piece of paper

19:25

in front of me and was like draw something

19:27

that comes to mind, I would just like start drawing

19:30

like triangles and you

19:32

know what I mean, my name and like bubble letters, bubble

19:35

letters. So like when you when

19:37

you're at home, like you do you have like your

19:39

own artwork, like hanging up wars. It just

19:41

like more like shoes that you're trying to

19:43

design or putting designs on like objects.

19:46

Uh, it's just more like like sketchwork and

19:48

um, like shoes. I haven't

19:50

hung anything myself. I

19:53

am a big fan of art though, Like I'm

19:55

constantly searching for like pieces.

19:57

And it's not even like crazy expensive

19:59

pieces or or pieces by known people.

20:01

It's just like if it catches my eye and like I

20:04

kind of can get inspired from it or

20:06

like see it like connect

20:09

with myself and you know, I mean, I'll grab it and

20:11

try to hang it in my house. But um,

20:14

you should try to get the mona Lisa and Lisa

20:16

Yeah, get in there. Sale

20:21

Yeah looking at me like that. I

20:23

thought that was a funny joke. I'll

20:25

rock it with it. Shifting gears shake.

20:28

Something that we've done a few times on this show

20:31

is we've talked about what y'all's

20:34

impressions of George were before

20:37

George got here. You played against George

20:39

a few times, yeah, before he became your

20:41

teammate. Yea, So how did your expectations

20:43

of George, because he already did this for you, How did

20:45

your expectations of George meet up meet up

20:47

to your reality of George. I don't know. I didn't really

20:49

have like too many expectations, Like I just

20:52

remember no George, like just

20:54

from the outside, like I knew he was coming

20:56

shoot threes and he would start chirping a little

20:58

bit. You know what I mean, let letting

21:00

dudes have it, And honestly,

21:02

he came here and he was much of the same,

21:05

letting threes go and then you know, chirping at

21:07

dudes and getting after guys, and then just

21:09

his energy overall with the team

21:12

too, is just it's crazy. He's definitely

21:14

the type of person you want to play with on it,

21:16

like, you know what I mean, you want him on your side because

21:18

he's gonna he's gonna ride for you, and then he's

21:20

also gonna, you know what i mean, knock down threes

21:22

and make an impact. For Con

21:25

and Matisse when they came on the show, they both

21:27

said that George brought his

21:29

attitude what you're talking about with whether it's

21:31

the chirping or just the vibes that he brings,

21:33

the way that he comes into a room and you know he's there,

21:36

brought something new to this team because a lot of you guys

21:38

are a little bit more demir a little bit quieter.

21:41

So how do you feel about the

21:43

way that this year's team has rounded out? What's

21:45

George's role in all that? Shoot?

21:48

I mean, I think it's just that I think he's like

21:50

he's like the glue. Like if George

21:52

is not coming in being loud, like

21:55

giving off energy, then you

21:57

know we're gonna come to him and be like, yo, gee, what's up, Like

22:00

we need you to get your stuff going, get get right and

22:02

you know, help us out. And I mean he's cool about

22:04

it because if we were slacking, he would do the same to us.

22:06

And that's what kind of makes the whole team um

22:09

work and and move in the right direction.

22:12

I appreciate you giving me that title. I'm like the

22:14

the straw that stirs the drink, the

22:18

glue. The glue you

22:20

also have. We talked about your friendship with Tyrese,

22:23

but I know you have a special bond with Furkan and Matise

22:25

as well. You guys have a little tree out. Yeah, they're like

22:27

the Three Musketeers. You guys

22:29

are like you look at you three, and you guys

22:31

are like two totally different people. Like even

22:34

fur Concept, like Matisse

22:36

dresses like a yoga teacher. You

22:39

know, Furkon has his like

22:41

Euro style like like tight

22:44

jeans and you know those boots that he wears

22:46

where he likes to, you know, represent

22:48

the state police.

22:51

And then you know you have Swaggy Shake that probably

22:53

has every pair of Nike dunks

22:55

or nice you know, clothing,

22:58

and they all just seem

23:00

to be connected with what similarities

23:03

I don't know, but they are. You

23:06

guys are the Three Musketeers for sure. It's

23:09

crazy too. We'll be on the plane and Tissa

23:11

look back there and he'll just come out

23:13

with one of his wild, like super

23:15

wild ideas and talk to Firk and I'm

23:17

just chirping in like and then all of a sudden we're

23:19

just we're talking about like the most outlandish

23:21

things and like, I don't know those

23:24

those guys are. They're funny. They keep me on my toes,

23:26

and it's definitely like a good energy

23:28

because we're all like kind of the same age, same,

23:31

just the same, like you know what I mean when it comes to

23:33

the team aspect. So it's definitely

23:35

cool. Can we get an example, Oh

23:38

shoot, I don't

23:40

even know. Firk always has something funny

23:42

to say, and he's always like sneaked, just and like

23:44

he Uh. The other day we were in the training

23:47

room and he was like he

23:49

was talking. We're talking about like bodies or

23:51

whatever, and he was like, George, you

23:53

you must be Turkish, and I'm like, wow, He's like, because

23:55

you have belly like Turkish like, and

23:57

I'm like, did you just call me fat? He's

23:59

like, no, I have Billy too. But you know, I'm

24:02

like, oh my god,

24:05

this dude is hilarious. But Ferk picking

24:07

up all these like little American like

24:09

American like one liners are like

24:11

you know what I mean that he gets from like kJ or

24:13

Loper or Bob or any of them. You can

24:16

speak to that though, because four or

24:18

five years ago he didn't have this.

24:20

Like you guys talk about having your bag on the court. It's

24:22

like Firk has gathered a bag of English

24:25

sayings and he really struggled at the beginning. And

24:27

he's been open about that with us when he came on the show.

24:29

But what's it been like for you to watch his progression into

24:31

this like very funny English speaker.

24:33

Yeah, he says, like he didn't really speak too much English

24:36

when he first got over here, but to see

24:38

him grow now, Furks just a first just

24:40

a cool dude. Like he's never too high, never

24:42

too low, always joking, always you know what I mean,

24:44

in a good mood, smiling, happy, so

24:47

um. Firks easy to be around,

24:49

like a cool dude for real. The last team

24:51

and I wanted to ask you about is Joel because he's also

24:53

shared your entire career with Joel. Yeah, and

24:55

he's changed a lot and you've changed a

24:57

lot. So can you take us through the progression of

25:00

of getting to where you guys are now. It's

25:03

definitely been crazy, and it's been crazy to see Joe

25:05

grow, like just from when I first

25:08

got here and you

25:10

know his game, how he was, and now

25:12

he's just he's just he's

25:15

just involved into like this leader, like to

25:17

a real leader of the team where he's bringing

25:20

guys in and his game is just elevated

25:22

and it's elevating the game of others too,

25:24

And he's just been essential

25:27

to the growth of I guess this whole like

25:29

organization. Honestly, he's the process,

25:31

right like he is the process him

25:34

speaking of the process. Towards the

25:37

end of the show, we look inward, um

25:39

and I'm curious. George usually teased

25:41

this off, but I guess I can do it, um, George.

25:45

George looks upset. George usually

25:47

teasing this off. Can you believe that shake? It's called

25:49

the Big Niang theory, It's not called she

25:53

calling for ice? All right, right,

25:58

this isn't this isn't your time doing

26:01

that swing? D Yeah, exactly, pass

26:04

it and go to the corner. So anyway,

26:06

Shake. In a final segment,

26:10

we ask you, know, our guests, you know,

26:12

if you had advice for

26:14

a younger you, a younger Shake,

26:16

Milton, what would what advice

26:19

would you give your younger you? Man?

26:22

I would just tell myself to like, stay

26:25

the course, man, Like if you have something

26:28

like a goal or a dream or something you're working

26:30

towards, like, just stay the course.

26:32

It's gonna be ups and downs. There's gonna

26:34

be you know, times where it

26:36

feels like it's not attainable, or

26:39

you know times where um,

26:41

you know, you're there's highs and you feel like, oh yeah,

26:43

I'm closer than what I thought I was. But

26:45

just stay the course, man, because you never

26:48

know what can change. You never know what can happen, um,

26:51

and you know, just just be

26:53

locked in and and stay true to what

26:55

you who you are and what you do. Hey,

26:58

I hear you, because you know, I never thought

27:00

a chubby kid from a thin one would

27:03

get to the NBA. And who knows if you thought

27:05

a kid from Oklahoma would be,

27:08

you know, putting up points in

27:10

the NBA. So are there any when

27:12

you look back on your journey from

27:14

Oklahoma to today formative

27:17

hurdles that you got over and do

27:19

you remember how you got over them?

27:22

Shoot? Well, yeah, like in

27:24

high school and like my dad passed away, and

27:27

you know, that was just it was tough.

27:29

And um, I was obviously

27:31

surrounded by like great people

27:34

family wise, and I just kind of blessed,

27:36

was blessed into being in the position to go to a

27:38

situation like SMU, you know what I mean,

27:40

the people that were around there. I

27:43

was close to home, my mom could come see me

27:45

whenever, and I got to play

27:47

and you know, and then got

27:49

to college and things went well. I

27:52

kind of ended up, you know, breaking my hand and

27:54

then had to decide, like yo, am I coming back for another

27:56

year and make the jump? And I was

27:58

like, yo, it's time. So it's

28:00

just been kind of been a process, and that's kind of what it always

28:03

goes back to. It's just, um, trusting,

28:05

trusting what you're doing, and trusting who

28:07

you are and you know what I mean, just put being

28:10

two toes and two feet in and and living

28:12

with the rest you I had the

28:14

pleasure a couple of years ago of interviewing your mom.

28:18

It seems like you guys are really close. Can

28:21

you tell us a little bit more about your relationship with her

28:23

and what she means to you given what you just share. No,

28:25

yeah, she's she's in my rock like she she's

28:28

just everything like I would

28:31

inspire to be, like, you know what I mean, just

28:34

an incredible person, incredible

28:36

woman, um who shows a lot

28:38

of love. Her first game was actually her

28:41

first game in Philly was the game game two

28:44

in Atlanta. Whenever I was able to you know what I

28:46

mean, doing my thing, So that was that

28:48

when you were getting off.

28:50

Yeah, was my mom's first game too. And I remember I

28:52

played one minute, literally one

28:54

minute the game before in game one, and I was

28:56

like, oh, down about it, and my mom shows

28:59

up and I was like, I don't know. Luckily

29:01

I was able to get things clicking. And the

29:03

other one you me like five three. Yeah, yeah,

29:07

I remember watching that before our game and you telling

29:09

them like this dude is

29:12

going crazy, right No, no,

29:14

yeah, it was just all in the air. I guess. When

29:16

I talked to her, she told the story of watching your

29:19

thirty nine point performance and we're going to turn this

29:21

around quickly, so I have no problem sharing that we're in LA right

29:23

now. And a couple years ago when you were in LA,

29:26

dropped thirty nine on then Docs

29:28

Clippers and your mom talked about watching

29:30

it at home with your sister and calling

29:33

you afterwards. What do you remember about

29:35

a having a performance like that but

29:37

be sharing it with them sort

29:39

of from afar, Oh, Yeah, it was. I

29:42

mean they're always always

29:44

there for me, and that was just kind of like our

29:46

thing as a family is just being there, like of your

29:48

little brother as a game. Everybody's going, little sister

29:50

as a game, everybody's going. So

29:53

they were blowing up my phone afterwards, you

29:55

know what I mean, And it was it was just amazing to have

29:57

her performance like that. You know how

29:59

it is. You get in there and the room gets a

30:01

little big all of a sudden, you forget

30:03

like you're even playing basketball, You forget

30:06

where you are. You're just like there, You're in the

30:08

zone. You're in the zone for real. It's something

30:10

that you can't describe. People just have to

30:13

you can't describe it. It's like, yeah,

30:15

when you're there, you know you've been in that zone a

30:17

lot more than me. I don't

30:19

find the bottom of the net as much as you do.

30:22

Yeah, but that's dope, Shank,

30:26

I know a lot more about you. No, I appreciate this.

30:28

This is this is dope. Yeah.

30:31

I like podcasting. But the crazy

30:33

part is we're doing this for you

30:35

know, obviously content and stuff like that.

30:37

But we actually had a real conversation, Like I actually got

30:40

like I would have never thought like you

30:42

were into like designing or how to creative

30:44

side you or even like meditation.

30:47

But now I understand why you're a cool common collective

30:49

because you're just You're in the in the

30:51

present, in the now. I think that's so cool.

30:53

So No, I appreciate having me. We

30:56

appreciate you coming. This is a good episode.

30:58

I'm excited to share this one. Come on now, and

31:01

then no one can say that they don't know who shake it anymore

31:04

exactly. Yo, come say

31:06

what's up? How about your boy's

31:13

hilarious shake Milton? Thank

31:16

you so much for coming on the big Niang theory.

31:18

For sure. I appreciate y'all. We're out, We're

31:20

out. Yeah,

31:24

we know
