Slate Moneybox writer Henry Grabar talks about some of the national and global efforts to reduce plastic straws and other single-use products, and what some critics of the movement are saying -- including people with disabilities, many of whom must use straws.

@HenryGrabar says Starbucks has said that by 2020, they'll have eliminated plastic straws from its stores - the company goes through more than a billion straws a year. (They say they'll have straws on hand for customers w/disabilities who need a straw.)

@HenryGrabar points out that it's extremely expensive to recycle plastic straws, so most end up in landfills or in the ocean -- where they pose a hazard to marine life.
