Eric gives an insight into Bulgarian history that only someone who loves the area can do. He talks about the push and pull between the Byzantines, the Ottomans, the Slavs, the Tatars, and many more in this little discussed corner of the world. I have learned so much about this neglected chunk of Europe that I feel like I have already visited there. I will definitely be visiting Sofia when travel is allowed again. A fine continuation of the History of Rome and History of Byzantium podcasts. Brilliant!

I am still in the early episodes but I love the story. As a Bulgarian who grew up in a foreign country and never learned my home country's history I find this podcast a great tool to get in touch with my heritage. Production quality can be improved (maybe it has already) but nevertheless it is a great listen!
