We forget how vast the surface area is on the Great lakes. These are 5 fresh water inland seas. The same size tankers that float in the ocean can be found in the waters.

However, do not think that they are lakes that the waters will not become violent. Rouge waves have been reported in these waters of heights of 70 feet.
