Joining me today is the amazing and absolutely powerful when it comes to media, specifically for Radio, Kathy Boone. She is the president and CEO of Source Radio Network, and she is determined to change the face of Internet Radio with traditional media concepts. They are giving people the opportunity to have a voice, translate words that haven’t been heard and painting a picture that no one has seen. Here are some highlights from our episode today:

 

·       Source Radio Network is an online radio show with a dynamic host and they showcase Real life events, on Real talk radio, with Real people and guest. The thing about media is you want to connect with people – give them the entire picture. Give people what they like to see, hear and know. She envisions for her radio station to be for the people, by the people. If you can develop a program that meets the needs of your audience, then you are on your way to success.

 

·       Guests to Kathy’s radio show talk about               Relationships, Politics, Sports and Religious views. Three things usually catches Kathy’s attention when looking for guests: pure passion for what they do, comes across as very genuine, and speaks to the need.

 

·       In media, the tone of your voice and the pace of your voice can give away if you are being genuine or being “salesy”. You need to also identify your audience demographic in order to be able to speak with them when they need it. Kathy has identified her audience as Source Nation.

 

·        Kathy has over 24 years in media, radio, advertising sales and marketing. When asked about how much she relies on internet for sourcing out her guests or knowing more about her guests, she answers that the internet is the key to her business. The internet makes it possible for your audience to more about what guests have to offer and where to find these people.

 

·       Become a proactive part of a network. It is very vital that you have all your information in place. Make sure that you use your website, social media properly and that you are constantly communicating or engaging with the folks you already have. If you are not engaging with your audience, according to Kathy, your message is just for naught. Understand what your audience thinks about, feels, needs and wants so you may be able to meet them at their need. That is how you leverage the opportunity to go viral.

 

·       Having social media presence or a website is not enough. In order for you to be marketable, you need to ensure that you have a strong presence and have a blueprint across the internet. If you have a dead link on the internet, then you are not serving anyone. Make sure you can be found.

 

·       Kathy looks up to Barbara Walters, Oprah and Katie Couric. She looks up to them because they have conversations, not interviews. They know what they need to discuss and talk with people. You need to have 2 Ps when speaking to people: Passion and Purpose. Get to the passion of your guests so that you will have a conversation and not just an interview. If you speak to the heart of the person, it will be a clear success. The same thing with coaching. You want to speak to the need and the heart of the person and when you connect with that, it will bring you success.
