Welcome to the 26th episode of The Chirp with Daren Millard. Today we have an outstanding interview for your listening pleasure. Somehow, Daren got to sit down with New Jersey Devils President, Hugh Weber. New Jersey was front and centre at the NHL Draft this year drafting Jack Hughes and trading for P.K Subban. A trade that quite literally went down behind the scenes during the interview. Hugh didn’t mention it and kept his cool the entire time but felt bad and left Daren a voicemail to make up for it. Dean and Hugh get into acquiring the #1 pick, drafting Jack Hughes, appeasing old and new fans, changing the style of play and Lou Lamoriello. Hugh believes that success begins on the ice but doesn’t necessarily stop there. He understands hockey needs to thrive in the community and every aspect of the company. Hugh discusses the culture of his team and what goes into selecting employees to work for him. He even employs an organization wide “ not jerks policy”. We close with Martin Brodeurs’ new roll with the team and where he sees the Devils in 5 years. Enjoy!
