0:52

0:54

to today's message. Hey

1:01

everyone, I'm so grateful that you've joined us

1:04

today. I know that God has a word

1:06

for you that's going to transform your life.

1:08

And when I say a word, I literally

1:10

mean a word, the

1:12

one most important word

1:14

uttered in history

1:16

that literally changed everything

1:18

for all of humanity.

1:21

And we find this in the

1:23

gospel of John chapter 19 verse

1:26

28 says after this, when Jesus

1:28

knew that everything was

1:30

now finished, that the scripture might be

1:32

fulfilled, he said, I'm thirsty. A

1:34

jar full of sour wine was sitting there. So

1:37

they fixed a sponge full of sour wine on

1:39

a hyssop branch and held it up to his

1:41

mouth. When Jesus had received

1:44

the sour wine, he said, it is

1:47

finished. And bowing his head, he

1:50

gave up his spirit. And

1:52

of course we're talking about the crucifixion of

1:54

Jesus here. And in

1:56

there, the final words we hear

1:59

from Jesus. In English

2:01

history was it is finished.

2:04

But it is when Jesus out of

2:07

these was in his language. In

2:09

our may gets to tell us. One

2:12

would and that one word

2:14

literally changed everything. You know

2:16

that loss was the Jesus

2:18

added on the cross. The

2:20

fact of the matter is

2:22

that he didn't say I

2:24

am finished. He says it

2:26

is finished. What he came to this earth

2:28

to do was finished, his assignment was done,

2:31

and we're going through a list of what

2:33

exactly does that mean? What is it? Because

2:35

it seems like everyone on the Us is

2:37

chasing it, wants to be hit. What is

2:40

his and Jesus A Say is finished. The

2:42

struggle is all. You don't have to keep

2:44

chasing a hit or to try to finance.

2:47

Jesus. Christ died.

2:50

And. Paid the price for our

2:52

seen in so it is finished

2:54

in the first thing that was

2:57

finished. Was the sacrificial

2:59

system of the Old Testament

3:01

that we no longer have

3:03

to bring a perfect animals.

3:07

Through itunes or else seems Jesus

3:10

himself speaking to. See.

3:13

Became. The sacrificed for each

3:16

and every one of our sins.

3:18

The sacrificial system is finished. The

3:21

second thing. Sin. Was.

3:23

Finished of that cross. You know,

3:25

in Ancient Israel. To tell us I

3:27

was also a business time. really important

3:30

understand that meanings paid in full gear.

3:32

Get a Sap paid in full. For

3:35

writing to tell us. At

3:37

the bottom of a bill is the same

3:39

really. The site is putting a paid in

3:42

full stamp at the bottom. And

3:44

as to Cross Jesus Christ pay.

3:46

The price in so such as

3:48

since since a tell us that

3:51

means that our sales are done

3:53

away with you and I we

3:55

are free. We us a

3:57

given. His. he nothing else

3:59

today I want you to hear this. Everything

4:02

that we have ever done wrong, every

4:05

mistake that we have made has

4:07

been paid for in full. It's

4:10

finished. Every single one of

4:13

us has sinned, no matter how good you

4:15

might think you are. Paul writes

4:17

in Romans 3.23, for all have

4:19

sinned and fallen short of the glory of

4:21

God. And I need you to

4:23

know that word all means all for

4:25

all. If there's eight billion people on the

4:27

earth today, for all have

4:30

sinned and fallen short of the glory

4:32

of God. He goes on to say in Romans 6.23, that

4:35

the wages of sin is death. But

4:38

the gift of God is eternal

4:40

life in Christ Jesus, our

4:42

Lord. Did you catch that? The

4:44

gift, it's a gift. The gift of

4:47

God is eternal life. This

4:49

is the essence of our

4:52

message that we

4:54

are alive in Christ. The

4:56

essence of our message is not

4:58

Jesus came to make bad people

5:00

good, but Jesus came

5:02

to make dead people alive. I

5:05

was once dead, but now in

5:07

Christ I'm alive. Sin

5:10

makes us dead and Jesus

5:12

makes us alive. Jesus

5:15

paid the penalty for

5:17

my life and yours, the penalty

5:19

of rebellion. So

5:21

sin did to Jesus

5:24

what it should have done to me. It

5:26

killed him, it killed him. So

5:29

Jesus really did die. He

5:32

didn't like fake die. This is not fake

5:34

news. He really did die. He

5:37

died so that you and

5:39

I might live. You know,

5:41

in the Old Testament, God

5:43

dealt with the sins of his people

5:45

through a blood sacrifice, goats and bulls

5:48

and lambs. And Jesus,

5:50

when he died, he did

5:53

it once and for all. Jesus's

5:55

blood is the only blood that

5:58

can pay for our sins. sins.

6:01

Because I am born again and

6:03

alive forever, I don't

6:05

need to fear death." In

6:08

1 Corinthians chapter 15, verses 55

6:10

to 57 Paul writes, where

6:13

death is your victory? Where

6:16

death is your sting? The

6:18

sting of death is sin and

6:20

the power of sin is the

6:23

law. But thanks be to God

6:25

who gives us the victory through

6:28

our Lord Jesus Christ. I remember

6:30

when I received a thyroid cancer

6:32

diagnosis and it

6:35

was then that I really realized I didn't

6:37

fear death. Because when the doctor

6:39

gave me the report and at that point we

6:41

didn't know what kind of cancer it was and

6:43

whether it had spread and we didn't know the

6:46

extent of anything. So it was just

6:48

like, Christine, you're going to have to come back to

6:50

America and do further tests. You've got

6:53

a mass on your nodules, you've got something

6:55

on your voice box and you've got something

6:57

in your thyroid. So it was not

6:59

a great report. But I

7:01

remember even then I said to my doctor

7:03

immediately not knowing anything, I said, it's okay.

7:06

It's okay because there's one of three things

7:08

that's going to happen. And

7:11

I said, I'm either going to be supernaturally healed

7:13

and I've got to tell you, I was believing

7:15

for that. I was believing that something was going

7:17

to happen. I was going to fly back to

7:20

America, do another test and it would all be

7:22

okay. I said, I'm either going

7:24

to be supernaturally healed or secondly,

7:26

I'm going to be healed through surgery

7:28

or medication or some kind of intervention

7:30

where God anoints the doctor and use

7:33

modern medicine in order to bring healing

7:35

into my life. I'm all about it.

7:38

And the fact is, I said, all the third thing is

7:41

Jesus is going to take me home and

7:43

I'm going to be healed in heaven. And I

7:45

said, it's okay. Plan A, I win. Plan

7:47

B, I win. Plan C, I win.

7:49

It really doesn't matter because death has

7:52

lost its sting. You know, the fact

7:54

is I'm going to live for eternity

7:56

no matter what. And so because

7:58

I knew I had eternal life. life in Christ,

8:01

death had lost its

8:04

sting. It had lost

8:06

its power over me. So

8:08

death is the ultimate statistic. Every

8:11

single one of us is going to one

8:14

day physically die. You know, the

8:16

fact is, I don't know anyone that's come out of life

8:18

alive. The fact is we're

8:20

all gonna die. The issue isn't whether

8:22

we're gonna die. The issue is, are

8:24

we actually gonna live on this earth,

8:26

the life that Jesus Christ died to

8:28

give us? Are we gonna

8:30

live life and life more abundant? Are

8:33

we going to fulfill our God given

8:35

purpose and our God given destiny? I

8:37

want you to remember today that you

8:39

do not have to get cleaned up

8:41

to come to God. Paul writes in

8:43

Romans chapter five verse 28, but God

8:45

demonstrates his own love for us in

8:48

this, while we were still sinners,

8:50

Christ died for us. So you can

8:52

come as you are. Jesus

8:54

died for us when we were

8:57

in our biggest mess, while we

8:59

were still sinners. Who else

9:01

but God could not only love

9:03

us, but so love us, that

9:06

he gave his only son to die, that

9:08

we might have eternal life.

9:11

This, this, if you

9:14

ask me, this is what indescribable

9:16

love is. This is

9:18

what unfailing love, this is what

9:20

an unfathomable love is. You

9:23

and I have done nothing to

9:25

earn it. And there is

9:27

no way that we deserve it. The

9:30

only thing you can do with this kind

9:32

of love is receive it. And

9:35

that's a great act of faith. In

9:37

a cancel culture world, where

9:39

everyone wants to cancel you for doing any

9:41

slight thing that they perceive to be wrong.

9:43

And if we're not flowing with

9:45

the culture of this world, you're

9:47

gonna have to really fight hard to believe that

9:50

God loves you, that God accepts you,

9:52

that God forgives you, that you can

9:54

have forgiveness for your past and a

9:57

brand new start today. Because other people

9:59

and systems. and places will try to

10:01

tell you, you cannot start again. But

10:04

in Christ, we are born again into

10:06

a new life and that

10:09

Christ has forgiven us of each and

10:11

every one of all of our sins.

10:14

I think in this particular culture and

10:16

this particular cultural moments, it's

10:18

one of the greatest acts of faith to

10:20

believe that Jesus really has forgiven us, that

10:23

you don't have to live grouped by

10:25

shame or fear or guilt or condemnation.

10:27

The world would love to heap shame

10:29

on you. The world would

10:31

love to heap guilt and condemnation on

10:34

you. And in the current

10:36

culture that we're in, if you think, say,

10:38

or do anything that someone perceives to be

10:40

wrong, it is like you are canceled and

10:42

you feel like it's all over. But I

10:44

wanna tell you that in Christ, you

10:47

can be born again and have a brand

10:50

new spirit. It

10:52

is the great news of the gospel of Jesus

10:54

Christ. The third thing that was

10:56

finished on the cross is

10:58

that shame is finished. Now,

11:01

here's a quick English class lesson, okay? When

11:04

Jesus uses the word tetelestai,

11:07

I want you to hear this, okay? So I had to go

11:09

back to my English books from my English major at college for

11:11

this. The tense is what's called

11:14

perfect passive indicative. Say that really

11:17

fast, perfect passive indicative. So what

11:19

this actually means is that the

11:21

progress of an action is complete

11:25

and the result is ongoing with

11:27

full effect. So the things stop,

11:29

but the result keeps going. So

11:31

the ongoing work will continue all

11:34

the way into the future. So this is what

11:36

it really sounds like. If I could tell you

11:39

the way this word is said. It

11:42

is finished, finished, finished, finished, finished.

11:44

It is finished, finished, finished, finished,

11:46

finished. It was finished

11:48

in the past. It's still finished

11:50

in the present and it will

11:52

remain finished in the future. I

11:55

don't know about you, but that makes

11:57

me want to run a lap around this

11:59

student. Paul writes in 2 Corinthians

12:01

5 verse 21, God made him

12:03

who had no sin to be sin

12:06

for us so that in him we

12:08

might become the righteousness of God.

12:12

Do you believe that? It

12:14

is finished, finished, finished, finished, finished. The

12:17

righteousness of God, this is not an abstract

12:19

theological kind of sermon like Chris, you're using

12:21

a lot of big words. Can

12:24

I just tell you that knowing that we are

12:26

the righteousness of God has

12:28

incredible relevance to our everyday

12:30

lives? When you understand

12:32

the power of that word, te telestai,

12:35

te telestai, it is finished, finished,

12:37

finished, finished, it was, is, always

12:39

will be, you can walk

12:41

free and know that you are a

12:44

righteous son or a righteous daughter in

12:46

Christ. This was personally a

12:48

huge thing for me. I never

12:50

had a moment growing up because of

12:52

abandonment and abuse and so many other

12:54

things. I never had a conscious moment

12:56

where I don't know what it felt

12:58

like not to have shame on me.

13:01

I was this abused, adopted daughter

13:03

of my grandson. I was full

13:05

of shame. I was

13:08

full of feelings of unworthiness, of

13:10

just not ever being enough, of

13:13

living condemned and riddled with

13:15

shame. I honestly thought

13:17

for years, I honestly

13:20

thought that Jesus could never love

13:22

somebody like me. Shame

13:24

has been a tool of the

13:26

enemy right from the beginning. In

13:29

the very last verse of

13:31

Genesis chapter 2 verse 25, just

13:33

before the fall, God tells us that Adam

13:36

and his wife were both naked

13:39

and they felt no shame. Isn't

13:42

that interesting? No shame. Could have been any other

13:44

thing, but it was, we were never created

13:46

to know what shame felt like. After

13:48

Adam and Eve ate the fruit, we read in Genesis

13:50

chapter 3 verses 9 and 10, but the Lord

13:53

God called to the man, where are you?

13:56

He answered, I heard you in the garden and

13:58

I was afraid because I was naked. and

14:00

so I hid. That's where shame

14:02

came in. Shame came into the

14:04

fabric of the human experience. It

14:07

came in and said I was naked and

14:09

so I hid. Whoa, ashamed.

14:12

The one thing we were never designed to

14:14

feel, we now not only feel it,

14:17

we're overwhelmed and crippled and paralyzed

14:19

by it. The

14:21

devil wants us to basically be filled

14:24

with shame. But

14:26

I want you to know, sin no longer has the

14:28

power. But the devil can

14:30

remind us of guilt

14:32

and condemnation and shame. So

14:35

I believe today that God is saying shame

14:38

off you to some of you because that thing

14:40

is paralyzing and crippling you from receiving the love

14:42

and the grace and mercy of God. I

14:45

want to tell you don't drag

14:47

that shame and guilt and condemnation.

14:49

Don't drag it around any longer.

14:51

It's paralyzing you. It's making you

14:53

fearful. It's holding you back and

14:55

you've gone into hiding and you're

14:57

minimizing yourself and you're allowing guilt

14:59

and condemnation to rule your life.

15:01

But Paul writes in Romans chapter

15:03

8 verse 1, therefore there is now no

15:06

condemnation for those who are in Christ

15:08

Jesus. I want to remind you today

15:10

that you can move past your past.

15:12

You are not the net sum total

15:14

of all of your failures or all

15:16

of your mistakes or what was done

15:18

to you or what was said about

15:20

you. The blood of Jesus doesn't give

15:22

us amnesia. That stuff happened. But it

15:24

does give us a life beyond our

15:26

past. And today you

15:28

could choose to make what Jesus has done for you bigger

15:31

than what anyone has done to you or

15:34

said about you. We can't change

15:36

the past but we can change

15:38

the future because of this moment on

15:40

the cross because of patellasti.

15:44

It is finished. You know

15:46

in my own life I've carried so much

15:48

shame, so much guilt, so much pain and

15:50

you know I've often told the story when

15:52

I was in Stratford upon Avon and I

15:54

went into the genealogy shop thinking that Nick

15:56

was came from royalty and then I looked

15:58

at all his issues. and

16:01

there were like pirates and convicts and, you

16:03

know, there was crime and there were thieves

16:05

and they were the convicts that were sent

16:07

over to Australia. And I say, you know,

16:10

we can't change the past. Nick comes from

16:12

that kind of past in his family tree.

16:14

I come from abuse and abandonment and adoption

16:17

and just pain and immorality and

16:19

inequity. We can't change the past, but

16:21

we came together. We got married.

16:23

We drew a bloodline in the

16:25

sand and we said with us, all

16:28

of that stops. With us in

16:30

Jesus name, because of the blood of

16:32

Jesus and because of the patella style,

16:34

it is finished. Then with us, abuse

16:37

stops. With us, addiction stops. With us,

16:39

you know, fornication stops. With us, adultery

16:41

stops. With us, divorce stops. It stops

16:44

with us because of

16:46

Jesus's finished work on

16:49

the cross, patella style. The

16:51

patella style of Jesus shows

16:53

us that when everything looks like it's falling

16:56

apart, when it seems like

16:58

all hope is gone, that

17:00

God is still busy at work, we

17:02

can trust Him. What looked

17:05

like defeat was actually victory on the cross.

17:08

Some of you have had the

17:10

worst week of your life and

17:13

you're faltering in your faith right now, if

17:15

you're honest. Often people wanna

17:17

call things finished that are

17:19

not finished because of Jesus. Marriages,

17:22

children, ministries, careers, relationships,

17:24

family lives. Because of

17:27

the finished work of the cross, none

17:30

of these things are necessarily

17:32

finished or hopeless or

17:36

irredeemable. There is hope.

17:39

There is the possibility of new life in

17:41

Christ. The old covenant

17:43

looked forward to what the cross

17:45

would accomplish. And as

17:47

new covenant believers, we look back

17:50

to what the cross has already

17:53

accomplished. Jesus has healed

17:55

us. Jesus has forgiven us.

17:57

Jesus has blessed us. Jesus has...

18:00

delivered us. Jesus has freed

18:02

us from sin, from death,

18:04

from disease, from sickness and

18:06

the power of the enemy.

18:09

Jesus' love is so amazing. He

18:12

bore our sins in His body. He

18:14

took the curse and the wrath of

18:16

God upon Himself. He took

18:19

our sins and His heart was broken

18:21

so that our heart would be healed.

18:24

He was an outcast that we

18:26

might be brought into the family

18:28

of God. The Word

18:30

reveals that what Jesus purchased for us

18:32

through the finished work of the cross,

18:35

God gave us the Word to discover

18:38

who we are and what

18:40

we have. It's in the Scripture. What

18:42

we have inherited. It's in the Word

18:44

of God. The work of the cross

18:46

was a complete work. Price

18:48

paid. Work done.

18:51

Victory won. I want

18:53

to remind you today, you

18:55

cannot complete a completed

18:57

work and you can't

19:00

finish a finished work. Our

19:02

salvation is won. Our

19:05

sins are forgiven. We

19:08

are made forever righteous

19:11

by the blood of Jesus Christ. Jesus

19:15

paid completely and perfectly

19:18

for our total

19:20

forgiveness, righteousness and

19:23

every spiritual blessing. Jesus

19:26

did for us what you and

19:28

I could never ever do for

19:30

ourselves. He paid the

19:32

price. He finished the work

19:35

and I wonder today if you

19:37

would receive the

19:39

finished work of Jesus

19:41

Christ. Stop all the

19:43

striving. Stop all

19:45

the being on that treadmill

19:48

of somehow trying to be loved,

19:50

trying to be approved, trying to

19:52

be accepted. Some of you

19:54

are working way too many hours looking

19:56

for the approval of your boss or

19:59

trying to prove something. to a father

20:01

who's not even alive anymore. And

20:03

you're like, I'll show them, I'm gonna be successful.

20:05

They said I was a loser. They said I'd

20:07

never amount to anything. Those people are not even

20:09

thinking of you or alive anymore. And

20:13

your family's suffering, your own

20:15

mental health, your own emotional health is suffering

20:18

because you're still chasing it. You're

20:21

trying to prove it. You're

20:23

looking for it. Somehow

20:26

you want other people or things

20:29

to make you feel valuable. Can I just tell

20:31

you that when Jesus

20:33

Christ said, it is finished and

20:36

He did that for you and me, in that moment

20:38

He was saying, there is nothing more

20:40

important in the world than you. That

20:43

He loves you, that He's got a plan and

20:45

a purpose and a destiny for your life. That

20:48

out of all of the 8 billion people on

20:50

the planet, He sees you, He knows you, He

20:52

cares about you. And He died

20:54

for you on that cross and rose again from

20:57

the dead so that

20:59

you can have forgiveness for your past and

21:01

a brand new life and an eternal hope

21:03

for the future. And

21:05

you can step into that brand new

21:07

life today by opening your heart and

21:09

surrendering your life to the Lordship of

21:12

Jesus Christ. He has done it all.

21:15

There is nothing more you can do. There

21:17

is nothing more you can say. There

21:19

is nothing you can do to

21:21

deserve His forgiveness or to earn

21:23

His forgiveness. Jesus paid it all.

21:26

My prayer is that you would

21:29

receive the love and the grace and

21:31

the forgiveness of God today to tell

21:33

us that. It is

21:36

finished and because it's finished, you

21:38

can have a brand new

21:40

start today in Christ. Thanks

21:45

for listening today. We hope that message
