Quick overview of the central characters in the second chronicle. The realm is led by the young queen, Theodora, but true power rests in the regent, Dowager Queen Irene. The queen also has a cousin close to her age, Leander, who is the illegitimate son of the dead king. The Order is led by Marshal Leonard. Count Hubert is a nobleman once of importance, now fallen from grace, who also has a son, Hugh. Lastly, Hæthiod has a strong presence of priesthoods. Dominic of the blackrobes is the court seer, an influential position that the other priesthoods covet.
