Silicon Valley is a comedy show created by Mike Judge and John Altshuler for HBO. While the first season was cut short the show has aired a total of 28 episodes across 3 seasons and will be returning in April of 2017 with its fourth season. The show aims for accuracy as well as comedy and features a glance into the world of tech start ups and the people who work for them.
The show opens on Kid Rock playing a rock concert for a group of nerds who recently sold their start up.
His name is "Kid Rock". In case you forgot. What their start-up does is vague and confusing but it seems to save the world, or end cancer, or maybe keep ever puppy on the planet healthy at the same time. We see our supporting cast. Gilfoyle, as played by Martin Starr, and Dinesh, as played by Kumail Nanjiani, are talking about liquid shrimp and how they taste like semen, at least imagined semen.
Our crew goes back to Erlich's, as played by T.J. Miller, and we get first wind of our main character's application. Richard, as played by Thomas Middleditch, has made an app that allows you to quickly compare your song to every other song in existence. The idea behind the app is that an artist could avoid "accidently" using music from another song. Richard and a friend decide to go see a TEDTalk.
The TEDTalk is given by millionaire investor and programmer Peter Gregory, played by Christopher Evan Welch, who really wants everyone to avoid college. After the TEDTalk Richard gets a moment with Peter Gregory to tell him about his idea. Peter Gregory dismisses it as an impossibility. It would be so slow he says. "I have a compression algorithm," Richard says.
Our villain Gavin Belson, played by Matt Ross, and Peter Gregory both figure out that Richard has created something awesome, a powerful compression algorithm, in the process of creating something lame, an app comparing music compositions. Gavin offers Richard 4 million dollars for the product while Peter Gregory offers him 200,000 for 5% of his company. After some thinking Richard decides to go with Peter Gregory.
Dinesh mocks those on the spectrum.
