CLOSE WEEK 2 - ELECTRICITYScripture: John 15:5Bottom Line: If you want to get the most out of life, stay close to the Source of it.INTRODUCTIONHave you ever seen the show The Amazing Race? Eventually, every team has to ask for help. They usually do it in one of two ways:• Impatiently ask for help and move on.• Ask for more than just help, but for someone to go with them.TENSIONGod is a person—a someONE—who wants to be the Guide we ask to go with us.It can be difficult to walk closely with God for a several reasons:• We forget He’s there.• We have no idea what that even would look like.• No one has ever told us we could.Walking closely with God isn’t about “trying harder” and it isn’t as hard as you might think.TRUTHJesus gave His disciples an illustration that would help them understand how to stay close to Him.Think of the “vine” like the source of electricity for things in your house. So basically, Jesus is saying, “I am the outlet, you are the cord.”Remaining like Jesus talks about is the same as staying plugged in. So he is saying, “If you stay plugged in, you will bear much fruit.”You won’t bear the “fruit” that God intends for you unless you stay close to the Source— unless you stay connected to Him.Scripture Main Application PointAPPLICATIONRemaining—staying plugged in—is a habit we can build. There are a lot of ways to begin developing the skill, but let’s start with one simple one—a question that goes like this: Will you guide me, God?Bottom Line: If you want to get the most out of life, stay close to the Source of it.APPROACHIf we want to get the most out of life, we need to stay close to the Source of it. Stay plugged in to the one who wants to bring you to life.
Question from the stage: Tell about a time when you and your family were lost and needed to find direction.
