We often think of WWII fondly, perhaps because we see no damage to our land. and the movies often tell the tale of American Nobility to save the world. Today is a grave reminder of the propensity of war, assumptions, good, evil, science, and collateral damage. We used nuclear weapons on two cities in Japan that were not military bases, but full of innocent people, just as now we use unmanned drones to bomb civilians who may or may not support the threats against the US. Is it gray? Isn’t war supposed to be dirty? I don’t think those are the best questions to ask.
Our knowledge has led us to innovations and technology the world could only dream about nary ten years ago, but how we wield it, how we respect, how we honor humanity will demonstrate who we really are.
Here are pictures from today’s Hiroshima memorial service.
