This is the 3rd challenge in Content Academy’s 5 Day Selection Box Challenge that we kicked off a couple of episodes ago. If you want to go back and check out the first challenge you can find it here.   To recap – every day we have been suggesting a particular style of blog post for you to create. Our challenge is to create and publish that blog post – to join our Content Academy Mastermind Group on Facebook and to share your post on this thread and to check out the other posts others are submitting.   Today your challenge is to create an embedded piece of content.   What is that you ask? We want you to create a blog post and then embed a piece of content within that blog post.   You can listen to this episode in the player above or look for episode 53 on iTunes.   While creating an embedded piece of content might sound difficult, once you get the hang of it, it can be really easy and quick to do, of course, the real challenge is to make that “embedded piece of content applicable to your blog and niche.   Why Embedded content is so appealing There are a number of major reasons why “embedded content” works so well, the first is the fact that it is quick and easy for us to add to our content. admittedly it can take time to find the right content to embed if we aren’t going to create it ourselves, but once we do its magic.   The second reason, if we embed for a video for example and people watch that video on our site, it increases the time spent on page and site, Goggle recognises this and rewards it in the search rankings. So we get an s.e.o boost from it.   The third, it makes the content more appealing to different types of people. There are of course people who prefer to consume content in different mediums and having an audio clip embedded or a video will open your content up to new visitors.   There are a few other great reasons why “embedded” content works so well and I’ve addressed those in today’s show, so I won’t ramble on here too long.   Types of Embedded Content   Video – YouTube etc. easiest and best way to add audio and visual   Tweets – Every tweet can be embedded in a blog post   Facebook – posts, status updates, videos and images   Instagram – Pictures and videos   Live-Streaming or Replays – Periscope, Facebook Lives etc   Audio Files – Anchor –  file to quickly put thoughts out and reply   Slideshows – Flickr and from other photo sharing sites   Infographics – Infogr.am   Bookmarks – Pinterest etc   Animated Gifs – GIPHY   Further Advice/Reading   I haven’t really got any further reading for you today, but what I do have it two examples of how we have use embedded content in our articles, these will give you an idea of what you can do with it.   How to create a custom Ghostcode for Snapchat The Best of Bloggerconf 2016   What’s Next?   This is part 1 of our “Selection Box” challenge, that we kicked off yesterday on the Podcast.   Over the course of the next five days, we are going to show you how to produce various different types of blog posts or videos or indeed podcasts, that will keep your readers engaged over the festive period and help you stand out from the crowd.   Listen to it in the player above or check out episode 51 on iTunes here.   Your Task Will Be to Do 3 Things:   Write Your Post – Come up with a relevant topic for your blog and write a post in the style we have addressed in the challenge and publish the post the same day. Share with Other Challengers – Join the Content Academy MasterMind Group and share with others participating in the challenge. The group adds accountability and networking opportunities. Visit Other Challenger Posts – Leave a comment or follow on social media   Today’s Challenge: Create a List Post   In today’s episode, Phil discusses why list posts are so easy to create and how they can be easily consumed and shared by your audience.   Phil goes into some detail about the three types of “list post” that you can create over the next 24 hours. They are:   A short list post – This consists of just a short introduction, a list and a conclusion. In some cases, bloggers don’t even bother with a conclusion. It is just one or two lines of an intro and then a series of bullet points. You can check out “25 Things Women Wish Men Knew” as an example of what a short list post might look like, although even that one has more writing than you would need to put in if you were tight on time.   Longer list post– This is pretty much the same as a short list post only it goes into a little more detail after each point. So it’s generally a list item followed by a paragraph or two of an explanation. You can check out “10 periscope tips proven to get you more love” as an example of what a longer list post might look like.   A list within a post– This one is as it says, it’s a normal blog article that you might write only this time you have included a list within the article. You can check out “Overland from Cape Town to Cairo” as an example of what a list within a post might look like.   Further Advice Top Seven Tips for Writing a Successful List Post   What’s Next?   Clear a little time in your diary and to create your post. On the podcast this week, we’re talking backlinks. Not just any old back links but ones we have some control over and that we can actively go and get.   Quite often we are reliant on other people to link back to our content and blogs and there’s nothing we can do about that, but did you know that there are other backlinks that we can actually go out and get ourselves?   IN THIS EPISODE WE TALK ABOUT   Why you need backlinks The Different types of links How answering questions can get us links How the law of reciprocity can also be on your side And much more……   LINKS AND RESOURCES MENTIONED   Free Blogging Mini-Course: The 30 Minute Blogger Paul’s Article on backlinking: 6 Fast Backlinking Tactics For Every Blog Post   Behind the Scene’s Do you want to see behind the scenes of this very Podcast recording? Today’s podcast episode is a break from the norm and one we were very excited about. We had the pleasure of chatting with Mikael Thiery, the director of the Dublin Web Festival. Mikael is a French Filmmaker and Producer based in Dublin. His short film “Joe Drummer” was selected for the Chicago Irish Film Festival in 2011 and for the 2011 Dingle Film Festival.   Since then Mikael moved towards the web series format. He has directed the first episodes of a comedy web series titled ”Ash Airways” which were selected for the LA Web Fest. So he is certainly a man who knows quite a bit about creating compelling visual content.   The Dublin Web Festival, isIreland’s first and only web festival. From November 18th-20th, Dub Web fest will take place in Templebar’s Filmbase, the perfect venue to unite the movers and makers of the digital media and technology worlds, promoting web series and digital content creation around the world.   The Web Fest are still taking submission and if you are thinking about putting your hat in the ring, then you can head over to their site and take a look at what is required. The final date for submissions is the 15th September 2016. At the three day long festival apart from plenty of awards, there will also be a number of workshops taking place from, how to write a great EPK (Electronic Press Kit), to a screenwriting workshop, so there will be plenty to see and learn.   To find out more, or to book your tickets you can check out the Dublin Web Festival in all these places.   Website: Dublinwebfest.com Twitter: @dubwebfest Facebook: facebook.com/DubWebFest  LinkedIn: DublinWebFest   THANKS FOR LISTENING!   Thank you for listening to the show this week.
