Stephen Vitiello's work as a sound artist is highly acclaimed. He created works for iconic spaces like the World Trade Center and The High Line in New York and famed art spaces like MASS MoCA, the Rothko Chapel and Marfa, Texas. His piece for The High Line is now part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and he was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2011. This year, he was named a fellow by the Virginia Museum for the Fine Arts.Stephen started his artistic life as a punk guitarist, and we began by talking about how sound art differs from music.
