0:41

And welcome to The Daily Beans for Tuesday, January

0:43

tenth twenty twenty three. Today, we have

0:45

breaking news from Hugo Lowell about the independent

0:48

private investigators the Trump team hired

0:50

To search his other properties for classified

0:52

documents, the Fulton County special

0:54

grand jury has issued its report, and

0:56

I think it'll be made public George

0:58

Santos is now facing an FEC

1:00

complaint. Scott Perry declines

1:02

to recuse himself from investigating the investigation

1:05

into himself. And classified

1:07

documents were found in Biden's old

1:09

office. I'm Alison Gil, and

1:11

I'm Dana Goldberg.

1:16

Hello, friend. You're in New York.

1:18

Hello to you. I am coming to you

1:20

live. We're actually recorded by the time you

1:22

hear this, but from the East Coast. How

1:25

is it over there? How's the weather's a cold?

1:26

It is, but it's beautiful. Clear

1:29

sky today when I left a lay this morning, it was

1:31

pouring. So this is actually

1:33

a nice change. Yeah. Oh, good. I think we'll probably

1:35

end up getting that rain later tonight down here

1:37

in San Diego, so Oh, for

1:39

sure. Gross. Alright. Well,

1:41

later on in the show, we have an exclusive, some

1:43

breaking news from Hugo Lowell, the Guardian. And

1:46

he has information about the private firm

1:48

Donald hired to search his other properties.

1:51

And also, a judge has ordered

1:53

Trump's deposition transcript to be

1:55

released in the Eugene Carol case. That's

1:57

going to be interesting. We will keep

2:00

you posted on that, and the House just approved

2:02

and passed its rules package,

2:05

and I'll go over that tomorrow on the

2:07

beans as well. So I'm gonna pour through it

2:09

and we'll let you know exactly what's in there. We

2:11

have a lot of other news to get to today.

2:13

So let's hit the hot notes. Hot notes.

2:16

Alright. My

2:18

friends at political, the Atlanta area special

2:21

grand jury investigating efforts by Trump to

2:23

overturn the twenty twenty election, has concluded

2:25

its investigation Pnut that's according to the state judge

2:27

overseeing the probe. Judge Robert

2:29

McBERNie acknowledged the conclusion of

2:31

her investigation in a two page order,

2:33

noting that the panel has now issued its

2:35

final report. But it's unclear what

2:37

the grand jury put in its report regarding

2:39

Trump. We don't know what's in there yet. The special

2:42

grand jury is expected to make a charging recommendation

2:44

related to Trump and other targets about

2:46

whether their efforts to overturn the twenty

2:49

twenty election state law. Fulton

2:51

County Gingrich attorney Fannie Willis must then

2:53

make the ultimate charging decision after

2:55

presenting the panel's findings to a regular

2:57

grand jury. The special grand jury

3:00

has been operating for a year

3:02

and hauled in testimony from some of Trump's

3:04

closest allies, including Mark Meadows,

3:06

Rudy Giuliani, senator Lindsey Graham,

3:09

Mike Flynn, and others. The

3:11

panel's recommendations appear to be

3:13

to release the report, but McBERNie

3:15

has set a January twenty fourth hearing to consider

3:17

whether to unseal the panel's recommendations and

3:19

findings whether any of its substantive conclusions

3:22

will be revealed before then is also

3:24

unclear. And you know, Andrew

3:26

Torres and I go over this in detail.

3:28

And the law surrounding it in Georgia

3:31

in tomorrow's cleanup on aisle forty five.

3:33

The panel spent months probing efforts

3:35

by top Trump as to deputize GOP

3:37

activists to pose as presidential electors

3:40

fraudulently even though Trump lost that state.

3:42

That effort was a component of Trump's

3:44

strategy to overturn the twenty twenty election

3:46

when Congress met on January sixth.

3:48

The special grand jury also probed

3:51

Trump's January second twenty twenty one phone

3:53

call with Ravensburger famously

3:55

asking him to find eleven thousand

3:57

seven hundred and eighty votes. Several witnesses,

3:59

including Graham and Meadows, challenged the special

4:01

Grand jury's authority, but Meadows lost the court

4:04

battle that reached the South Carolina Supreme Court,

4:06

and Graham was required to testify. After

4:08

a legal push that reached the US Supreme

4:10

Court. Along the way, Willis

4:12

publicly indicated her interest in bringing other

4:14

key Trump allies before the special grand jury

4:17

Noticing deposition requests and subpoenas

4:19

for figures like former national security

4:21

adviser Mike Flynn, who lost his own

4:23

Florida legal battle against the Pnut,

4:25

and former house speaker, Newt

4:27

Gingrich. Gengage. That's

4:35

called a oh, it's still fun. It's called a

4:37

callback. Ladies gentlemen. Well, the Returned

4:40

Gingrich. If

4:45

anyone missed yesterday's episode, ketchup.

4:48

Because this is Yeah. That was fun. Attorney

4:50

John Eastman, an architect of Trump's bid to

4:52

remain in power, indicated that he plead the fifth

4:54

when appearing before special grand jury,

4:56

and Brian Kemp, Georgia governor was

4:58

also ordered to testify. The panel's

5:00

probe closely tracked efforts by the January

5:02

six select committee to investigate Trump's

5:04

efforts Raffins Berger and his deputy Gabriel

5:06

Sterling testified in June at a

5:08

public hearing I was there. As did

5:10

two Georgia election workers at ShamOS

5:12

and Ruby Freeman, and that

5:14

was really a really incredible testimony. So

5:17

that's the first story. Thank you so

5:19

much. AG. And the second story goes

5:21

to rep Scott Perry, the Republican

5:23

from Pennsylvania. Well, he pushed

5:25

back Sunday when asked whether he would recuse

5:27

himself from any house GOP investigation of

5:29

federal probes into the events surrounding the

5:31

January sixth right of the capital despite

5:33

being a subject of those investigations.

5:35

And this is a quote, Why should

5:37

I be limited just because someone

5:40

has made an accusation? Everybody in

5:42

America is innocent

5:44

until proven guilty. That's what Perry

5:46

said in an interview on ABC's this

5:48

week with George Stefanopoulos. I'd

5:50

like to call him George Stefanopoulos, I

5:52

guess. George Stefanopoulos. Now,

5:54

Perry was pressed about whether any potential

5:57

involvement in a new committee would pose a conflict

5:59

of interest given that he was among those

6:01

being investigated. And this is

6:03

what he said. So should everybody in

6:05

Congress that disagrees with somebody be barred

6:07

from doing the oversight and investigative powers

6:09

that Congress has That's

6:11

our charge. That's from parent.

6:13

Yep. Went on to say, and again, that's

6:15

appropriate for every single member

6:18

regardless of what accusations that are

6:20

being made he added. I get accused

6:22

of all kinds of things every single

6:24

day. Pnut does

6:26

every member that serves in the public eye, but

6:28

that doesn't stop you from doing your job.

6:30

It's our duty and it is my

6:32

duty. Well, newly elected house speaker

6:34

Kevin McCarthy has indicated that Republicans

6:36

intend to probe the work of the now

6:38

defunct House Committee that investigated the

6:40

January sixth riot. In November,

6:42

McCarthy sent a letter telling committee chair

6:44

Benny Thompson to preserve all records

6:46

and transcripts and vowed to hold

6:48

hearings. In the new Congress about the security

6:50

failures that led to the attack in twenty twenty

6:53

one. House Republicans also plan to

6:55

vote this week on a new rules pact that includes

6:57

the creation of a judiciary investigative

6:59

sub committee charged with looking

7:01

into what they call, quote, the weaponization

7:04

of the federal government. Well,

7:06

Perry's phone was seized as part of

7:08

the Justice Department's probe into January

7:10

sixth. Perry, as we know, is

7:12

an ally of the former guy who supported

7:14

his efforts overturned the twenty twenty election,

7:17

and he sued the Justice Department last year

7:19

requesting the return of all cell phone

7:21

data the FBI had seized. Perry's

7:23

lawyers dropped the case in October without

7:25

explaining why. Well, Perry

7:27

also came under fire, under scrutiny by the

7:29

January sixth committee, which referred

7:31

him and three other House Republicans,

7:33

including McCarthy, to the House Ethics

7:35

Committee for defying the panel subpoenas.

7:38

When the committee said it had evidence from

7:40

multiple witnesses, alleging

7:42

Perry's involvement in an effort to install

7:44

former justice department official Jeffrey

7:46

Clark as the acting attorney

7:48

general during the final months of the Trump administration.

7:51

Clark pushed Trump's false claims of the stolen

7:53

twenty twenty presidential election and one of the

7:55

justice department to step in to

7:57

challenge the

7:57

results. Well, we also know that

8:00

many of the things that we've heard

8:02

are

8:02

true, so there's that. Thank

8:05

you for that, Dana. And from CBS.

8:07

Merrick Garland has assigned the US

8:09

attorney in Chicago to review classified

8:11

documents found at the Penn

8:13

Biden center for diplomacy and global engagement

8:16

in Washington, according to two sources

8:18

with knowledge. The roughly

8:20

ten documents are from Biden's

8:22

vice presidential office at the center.

8:25

CBS News has learned the FBI is also

8:27

involved in the US attorney's inquiry.

8:29

The documents were discovered when Biden's personal

8:31

attorneys were packing files housed in a locked

8:33

closet to prepare to vacate the office

8:35

space at the Penn Biden center in DC.

8:38

That's according to Salbur. That's

8:40

one of the attorneys for for

8:42

Biden in a statement to CBS News.

8:45

Salbur also said on the same day the material

8:47

was discovered November second,

8:49

the White House Council's Office

8:51

notified the national archives immediately which

8:53

took possession of the materials the following

8:55

morning. Quote, the discovery of these

8:57

documents was made by the president's attorneys.

8:59

These documents were not the subject of

9:01

any previous request or inquiry by

9:03

the archives. Since that discovery, the president's

9:05

personal attorneys have cooperated with the

9:07

archives and the Department of Justice in a

9:09

process to ensure that any OBAMA

9:11

Biden administration records are appropriately

9:13

in the possession of the archives. Garland

9:15

assigned US attorney of the northern district of

9:17

Illinois John Lautch to find

9:19

out how the classified material ended

9:21

up at Penn. The review

9:23

is considered a preliminary step, and

9:25

the attorney general will determine

9:27

whether an investigation is necessary, so

9:29

this isn't even an investigation yet.

9:32

Lausch was nominated to be

9:34

US attorney by the former Pnut, Donald

9:36

Trump, and he is one of only two current Trump

9:38

era US attorneys still serving. So it's

9:40

wise of Garland to hand to this case off

9:42

to a non Biden appointed

9:44

US attorney? Absolutely. The

9:47

other is Delaware US attorney

9:49

David Weiss, who is a leading an investigation

9:51

into Hunter Biden. Lausch

9:53

recently briefed the attorney general and will eventually

9:55

submit a final report to him, Garland, and

9:57

the review is expected to conclude

9:59

soon. It is of

10:01

note that Biden was not subpoenaed

10:03

for these documents by the Trump Department of

10:05

Justice in twenty nineteen nor did

10:07

he ignore a subpoena by

10:09

Trump's Department of Justice, nor did the Trump

10:11

Department of Justice issue a search

10:13

warrant of the offices pursuant to a

10:15

non responsive subpoena. Nor did

10:17

any Biden lawyer lie to the national

10:19

archives or the Trump Department of

10:21

Justice about having returns them

10:23

nor did Biden then have his

10:25

diet coke boy secretly moved the documents

10:27

to another location nor did Biden

10:29

get one of his appointed judges to appoint a

10:31

special master to delay the return of the

10:33

classified documents. And

10:35

I'll bet the means that the Trump appointed

10:37

US attorney looking into this matter will decline to

10:39

even investigate it, let alone prosecute

10:41

anyone. Trump, on the other hand,

10:43

is another story. Indeed, in fact, no

10:45

one at the ice cream parlor or Peloton

10:47

did know about the document

10:49

side So we want to be clear there because that's where

10:51

he spends a lot of his time. Alright. Last

10:53

story in the section, newly sworn in congressmen,

10:55

George Santos, man, oh,

10:57

man. He's gonna begin his first week in office

10:59

facing a formal ethics complaint

11:01

filed with the Federal Elections

11:03

Commission, the FTC. In a civil

11:05

complaint filed Monday with the agency

11:07

and reviewed by CBS News, the

11:09

nonprofit campaign legal center, Acu

11:11

Santos, who is the Republican from

11:13

New York. Of illegally using

11:15

campaign funds for personal expenses,

11:17

including for an apartment rental, and

11:19

for submitting false information about

11:21

both the source of his campaign donations

11:24

and his campaign's expenses. While

11:26

the DC based campaign legal center questioned

11:28

how Santos was able to make a sizable

11:30

donation to his own campaign

11:33

and in the months before he won a competitive house race

11:35

among Ireland. The complaint alleged

11:37

Santos reportedly to loan

11:39

his campaign seven hundred and five

11:41

thousand dollars during the twenty twenty two election.

11:44

But it's far from clear how he could

11:46

have done this with his own

11:48

funds because financial disclosure

11:50

report indicate that Santos had only

11:52

fifty five thousand dollars in

11:54

his name, to his name

11:56

in twenty twenty. Only fifty five

11:58

thousand. And he's like, here's seven hundred thousand

12:00

dollars from my account. Now

12:02

Pnut submitted an interview with the New York Post

12:05

last month, which is, you know, super

12:09

valid. Last month, and he embellished.

12:11

He embellishes his work in education history

12:13

during his congressional campaign after the New

12:15

York Times reported It was enabled

12:17

to confirm key details about his background

12:19

and by key details, any of

12:22

them. No. Monday's

12:24

FEC complaint also raised the prospect

12:26

of international no meddling in the election.

12:28

It alleged, quote, the concealed

12:30

truth source behind seven hundred and five

12:32

thousand dollars in contributions to

12:34

Santos' campaign could be corporation

12:36

or foreign national, both of which

12:38

are categorically barred from contributing

12:40

to federal candidates. Will the

12:42

campaign legal center complain also

12:44

raise questions about the expenses listed

12:47

by Santos' campaign finance reports.

12:50

Dozens of expenses are listed as

12:52

costing a hundred and ninety nine

12:54

ninety nine. In the Santos campaign

12:56

expenses, that's so interesting. It's

12:58

just one penny short. Of the two

13:00

hundred dollar threshold for which receipts

13:02

or itemized details are required

13:04

by the FEC. Just a hundred and

13:06

ninety nine ninety nine. The

13:08

complaints said, and I quote, the campaign

13:10

reported an astounding forty

13:12

disbursements meet

13:15

hundred and ninety nine and two hundred dollars

13:17

including thirty seven disbursements of

13:19

exactly a hundred and ninety nine ninety

13:21

nine. The sheer number of

13:23

these just under two hundred dollar

13:25

disbursements is implausible and

13:27

some payments appear to be impossible given

13:29

the nature of the item or service

13:31

covered. According to the campaign legal

13:33

center complaints, some of the listed one hundred and

13:35

ninety nine nine denied expenses on Santos'

13:38

campaign finance filings include

13:40

Uber rides. And hotel accommodations,

13:42

and this is a quote, the Santos

13:44

campaign reported making a hundred ninety

13:46

nine ninety nine disbursement to the W

13:48

Hotel South Beach of Miami,

13:50

on October thirteenth. That was of

13:52

twenty twenty one. And that was for hotel

13:54

stay, but the least expensive room

13:56

available midweek stay in October, a

13:58

one night one room stay for

14:00

one adult is priced at more

14:02

than seven hundred dollars. While

14:04

the Santos campaign also reported at a hundred

14:06

and ninety nine ninety nine disbursement,

14:08

to the identity verification company

14:11

clear for travel, but clear

14:13

stated in an email that

14:15

it's non discounted standard annual membership is

14:17

a hundred and eighty nine twenty eight.

14:19

Well, the Santos campaign reported that hundred and

14:21

ninety nine ninety nine disbursement to

14:23

JFK parking, but there's no

14:25

combination of fees from that airport parking

14:27

facility that would end in ninety nine

14:29

ninety nine. Santos

14:31

declined multiple requests for comment from

14:33

CBS News about allegations of

14:35

fabrications about his background and

14:37

about his campaign finance reporting

14:40

Efforts to immediately reach a spokesperson for the

14:42

congressman about the newly filed SEC

14:44

complaint were not successful,

14:46

and newly selected House speaker

14:48

Kevin McCarthy has not responded to questions

14:50

about Santos or Santos'

14:52

future in the House Republican Conference

14:54

over the past few weeks. Of course, they

14:56

haven't. This is one of the sketchiest fuckers

14:59

I have seen in a long time and that is saying

15:01

something about the GOP. Yeah. And if you

15:03

listened to the bonus episode this

15:05

past week, end of clean up on l forty five. I was

15:07

like, why all the one ninety nine ninety nines?

15:09

What is the two hundred dollar? What is the

15:11

cutoff? Why where's the two hundred dollar cutoff?

15:13

There it is. That's what requires a

15:15

receipt with details two

15:17

hundred dollars or more when you file with the

15:19

SEC. So that's why. That's why.

15:21

I'm glad they filed this complaint. Alright, everybody

15:24

16:57

Hugo, what what do you have for us? What is

16:59

the breaking news here? Yeah. Look.

17:01

So, you know, back last year,

17:03

Trump finally relented and

17:05

had a team of people search some of

17:07

his properties, including a

17:09

storage unit in Florida. And that

17:11

team turned up at

17:13

least two classified documents that were returned to

17:15

the Justice Department. And

17:18

essentially, what has happened in between is the

17:20

Justice Department was aggravated that

17:22

there was the discovery of new tabs by documents. They wanted to

17:24

hold Trump's team in contempt when

17:27

the the decision was deferred on

17:29

that. They wanted to get the names

17:31

of the people who are involved

17:33

in the search. It causes us as

17:35

we are reporting now. They wanted to

17:37

question them and potentially bring them

17:39

before the grand jury hearing evidence

17:42

about Trump's unauthorized potential of national

17:44

security materials and possible obstruction of

17:46

justice. You know, we thought this was

17:48

important because, you know,

17:50

it's an escalation in

17:52

many respects of the justice

17:54

department's criminal investigation, you know, to have

17:56

these people brought tangible book before grand

17:58

jury, or at least interviewed by

18:00

the justice department, suggest the

18:03

department does not trust Trump's

18:05

accounting of, you know, how

18:07

the the documents were found,

18:09

you know, Trump's lawyers did provide a justice point on an

18:11

explanation of how these two additional

18:13

documents, you know, turned up and,

18:15

you know, the

18:17

team that actually did the search. But

18:19

clearly, the justice department does not,

18:21

you know, trust that account, and

18:23

the justice department wants to interview these

18:26

people themselves. And part turns out is

18:28

because the team wasn't fully

18:30

independent or as independent Pnut

18:32

it was initially made out to be, you know, these

18:35

guys were people who were known

18:37

to Trump. They were a known company. They

18:39

were known to Trump's lawyers. In

18:41

essence, this is Trump World

18:43

doing its own such. Of Trump problems.

18:45

And so I think the justice family looked at this

18:47

with a heavy dose of skepticism. Yeah.

18:49

And that and that's what's incredible about

18:52

your reporting is that,

18:54

you know, we had just been speculating

18:56

that the reason that they wanted the names

18:58

of these, you know, the

19:00

people who who did this search,

19:02

the subsequent search, and turned up

19:04

a couple of at least a couple of classified

19:06

documents in a storage facility in

19:08

in West Palm Beach. That

19:11

they the reason they wanted their names

19:13

revealed was because perhaps they

19:15

wanted to question them as

19:17

part of this, you know, ongoing inquiry

19:20

and you've confirmed that. And

19:22

I jokingly said over the weekend when

19:24

I was talking to Andrew

19:26

Torres, I guess, you know, they wanna make sure

19:28

it's not like their friends who, you

19:30

know, who did this. But as

19:32

it turns out, it it you know, in what you

19:34

found out here, which is another really

19:37

important part of of the story,

19:39

which is out now in the Guardian. You can read it

19:41

now. That this was not

19:43

a a fully independent firm

19:45

hired by the Trump

19:46

team. Right. This was not like Trump's

19:49

lawyers going to a true

19:51

third party like Wilma Hale or Hogan

19:53

Labels or even Jones Day, like

19:55

these huge law firms, you know, who

19:57

would probably do a

19:59

really thorough search of all the Trump

20:01

properties effectively what he

20:03

had were you know, friends

20:05

or people connected to Trump

20:07

world that he felt might give

20:09

him a kind of a

20:11

a less aggressive search

20:13

that, you know, he could represent to the justice

20:15

department that yeah. Yeah. We've gone back and

20:17

checked, you know, you know, this

20:19

is what we found. Even though

20:21

the people who did the search were,

20:23

you know, fully independent in the way

20:25

that it was made out to be. And,

20:28

you know, it's important for the Justice

20:30

Department's Best instigation because, you know, first and

20:32

foremost, what the government is trying to do

20:34

here is to retrieve any

20:36

classified documents that

20:38

might still be in Trump's possession.

20:40

That's the national security issue.

20:42

Right? You have these classified documents in

20:44

the wild. They want them back. The

20:46

criminal investigation in many respects is

20:49

only secondary to that. You know, the national defense comes first

20:51

and then the the potential crimes come.

20:53

And so, you know, this really pertains to

20:55

that first priority. And I

20:57

think the Justice Department has has decided this

21:00

is now a key part of its investigation.

21:03

And and I think it I think it also

21:05

signals an escalation. In

21:07

the probe. You know, this is now the second

21:09

time that the justice department has

21:11

gone to Berrow Howell, who is

21:14

the chief US court

21:16

judge for the District of Columbia and said, you

21:18

know, we we need judicial intervention

21:20

here because we can't seem to get the

21:22

Trump lawyers to play more. First, it

21:24

was with the content motion. They wanted to

21:26

hold Trump's office in content because, you

21:28

know, they were frustrated at the fact that there were

21:30

still more classified documents buying

21:32

around even after the FBI searched

21:34

by a while ago, even after there was the main

21:36

grand jury subpoena. And then now,

21:39

with this thing about trying to get the names,

21:41

again, they've gone back to the judge and say, look,

21:43

we need judiciary intervention because we

21:45

don't trust Trump's lawyers. Yeah.

21:47

And this seems like you you

21:49

know, I I agree this seems like an escalation

21:51

and it seems like a very aggressive posture

21:54

from from the special council's team

21:57

on this trying to I mean,

21:59

you know, like the national archives took

22:01

how many months to just get the

22:03

first fifteen boxes back. It seems like

22:06

the tide has has turned on on and

22:08

I don't know what it is. Like you said,

22:10

is it the urgency of getting the national security?

22:13

Concerns or the investigation

22:15

or they're just sick of a shit. I mean, I

22:17

I or a combination of all three, and we

22:19

just don't know which is the prevailing

22:22

theory, but it does seem like a much

22:24

more aggressive posture than we had

22:26

previously seen. Although, I can't

22:28

say that searching of former president's

22:30

property like they did in August was also

22:32

not aggressive. No. Again, I think that's

22:34

true. And I think, you know, as as you've

22:36

kind of previously discussed, And as we

22:38

previously discussed, New Orleans moved

22:40

to approve their sergeant Marlago

22:42

was because Garland decided, you

22:44

know, likely in his mind that

22:46

this was a step he was willing to defend in

22:48

case it resulted in charges. But

22:50

I think the latest move

22:53

by the department has been really

22:55

interesting. After the FBI search and whether it

22:57

was through the special master process or,

22:59

you know, trying to control or

23:01

kind of discuss, you know,

23:03

remedial ways to get some outstanding

23:05

documents back. A lot of this was done in conversation between

23:07

the justice departments, lawyers,

23:10

and Trump's lawyers. You know, they were trying to

23:13

reach accommodations. It really does seem

23:15

like that kind of accommodating

23:17

attitude from the justice department in the weeks

23:19

and months after the

23:21

Marlago search. Has dissipated,

23:23

you know, these recent actions

23:25

about bringing stuff before the

23:27

chief judge in DC that is

23:30

that I think signals a

23:32

new level of aggression

23:34

that we have not previously seen

23:36

from the Justice Department. And I

23:38

and, you know, I think it it begs the question whether

23:41

Jack Smith, a special council, ever

23:43

since he took over or

23:45

kind of the fact that he took over as injected a

23:47

new urgency and then kind of a new drive

23:50

in in the in the

23:52

crosscutorial teams as a approach

23:54

with Trump. Yeah. Well, he definitely comes to

23:56

make decisions. And and I know we've got

23:58

some reporting from

24:00

Zoe Tillman who is seeing that

24:03

some critical charging decisions could be made possibly within

24:06

weeks. Of course, we don't know how far up that

24:08

goes. That could be. That could mean Walt, nada.

24:10

You know, we we don't really

24:12

know But, you know, it's it it

24:14

does seem like things are moving quite

24:16

a a quick clip. So we'll we'll see

24:18

how this goes. And, of course, everybody

24:20

needs to follow Hugo follows

24:23

reporting. He is the Trump DOJ reporter

24:25

and still congressional reporter over it.

24:27

You've got, like, she wears so many hats over at

24:29

the Guardian, but we're glad that you do. So thanks for coming on

24:31

and explaining that Pnut your your findings for

24:33

us today. Thanks. And can I just add one thing? Actually,

24:35

you raised a good point about what node

24:38

you know, the other

24:40

facet of the Justice Department of Investigation

24:42

is with these witnesses.

24:44

And, you know, we have we have heard

24:46

similar things to what Bloomberg and, you know, Jerry Tooman

24:48

has heard, which is the Justice Department has

24:51

to make a decision fairly

24:53

soon. About what they're gonna do with these

24:55

kind of outstanding witnesses that

24:57

have that have already, you know, been interviewed by the

24:59

FBI and who the justice department considers

25:01

key witnesses in the investigation.

25:03

You know, Pnut Noda, you know,

25:05

someone who who changed, you

25:08

know, or, you know, is understood to have

25:10

changed his head count of how you move boxes

25:12

containing chats via information, you know,

25:14

the justice department now sees them as a as

25:16

a as an individual that

25:18

they wanna get for the grand jury. You know,

25:20

his lawyers have told the justice department there is

25:22

no way you're gonna interview him unless

25:24

you're either charge him

25:27

or if you grant him immunity like

25:29

you gave me cash for tau. And, you know, we

25:31

reported at the time that we kinda think we

25:33

discussed with you, Allison, that

25:35

you know, conferring limited use immunity

25:37

to cash was

25:39

a real move.

25:42

That telegraph I think just how much the justice

25:44

department will zeroed in on Trump. You don't give

25:46

someone like cash to tell new

25:48

community to to testify about whether

25:50

documents were classified or

25:52

decertified. If you really didn't see a bigger fish. And I

25:54

think the same decision, it's very,

25:56

very close or has to be very, very

25:58

close for someone like, well, no, there's

26:00

also such a key part of the investigation.

26:02

Yeah. I mean, especially if he lied to

26:05

investigators when he first said that he had moved

26:07

any documents. It's it'll be interesting

26:09

to see whether they prosecute

26:11

him or or grant him limited

26:13

use immunity. And we know you'll be

26:15

reporting on it for the guardian, so I appreciate your

26:17

time, and we'll we'll keep following you. Everybody,

26:19

Hugo Lowell, Thank you again

26:21

for joining us today. Everybody stick around.

27:38

Look at this. Correction anonymous,

27:40

Diwale, the d is pronounced like a v

27:42

Diwale. I was at the zoo with my nineteen year

27:44

old daughter and had to get a pick of these frogs. Oh,

27:46

that we've changed subjects very quickly. Davolly,

27:48

thank you. I took two

27:51

unacceptable picks before she grabbed my phone and took the

27:53

photo. Luckily, she didn't ask too

27:55

many questions. I was the only photo took

27:57

that day. I mean

28:00

that top frog, the frog that's

28:02

on top is feeling

28:05

this? That is a frog. Yeah. I don't know

28:07

if there's another frog involved. That just might

28:09

be a duo, but they are definitely

28:11

making tadpoles.

28:11

That's so great. Thank

28:13

you. I don't know how tadpoles are made, but I'm assuming that's

28:15

it. Alright. This is for Matt,

28:17

the bluish dot in a gerrymandered red

28:20

state, No pronouns given. I

28:22

was a diehard veteran.

28:24

GOP is the only way voter

28:27

forever. Even voted for Trump in two

28:29

thousand sixteen. That Trump absolutely

28:31

broke my faith in that party and

28:33

really opened my eyes, that all of

28:35

the enablers are just bad eggs

28:37

like him. Perhaps I was too

28:39

Pollyanna in my view, but I'm

28:41

apparently now woke and happy as fuck

28:43

to be. While our Democrat

28:45

governor candidate Pnut Arkansas's

28:48

Chris Jones. He did not beat out the

28:50

highly unqualified Sarah

28:52

Huckabee during the last election. It

28:54

was incredible see ton of other

28:56

forever GOP voters. Get excited

28:58

when seeing my yard sign

29:00

or campaign support button. There

29:02

is hope for us yet. For

29:04

penance, very good. I'm

29:06

attaching a couple of Christmas pics of

29:08

one of our four dogs, Carlos. He's

29:10

a rescue ish. And hates wearing

29:12

clothes. We do it

29:14

often. He looks like a Oh my god.

29:16

Carlos' face. He's so mad.

29:18

He's so mad. He's so mad. He

29:20

looks like Max.

29:20

Oh, look at his his disdain of

29:22

this Christmas sweater is epic.

29:25

Oh, it is.

29:27

Thank you. Thank you for Thank you for

29:30

sending those in. Oh, my god. They're

29:31

so cute. And welcome to the light

29:33

side, Matt. Welcome to

29:35

Wokdale. Next up from Kevin, AKA,

29:37

audio magnate on the socials. This

29:39

is Riley and his mom, mom's

29:41

the hairy one. Riley is my

29:43

first dog after observing the traditional four year

29:46

morning period after the death of my beloved

29:48

pumpkin. Riley was supposed to be a

29:50

yorkie chihuahua mix, a chorkee, but

29:52

I'm not buying it. Riley's

29:55

dad is unknown at this point, and the puppy

29:57

support enforcement team has so far failed to

29:59

locate him. The only thing we know for sure is

30:01

that mom is part chihuahua. I'm leaning

30:03

toward Doxend, which would make Riley

30:05

a chuini AKA German

30:07

taco. Doxins are probably

30:09

really good at slipping under fences undetected,

30:11

which would fit the bill of

30:13

Riley's love them and leave them dad.

30:15

What do you guys Love the show.

30:17

Love seeing both of you guys on the Stephanie Miller

30:19

show. Question, why isn't what the month? What

30:21

are the top drop down choices? It's my favorite part

30:23

of the show. I don't know Kevin will ask.

30:26

Oh, answer. Cannae is super lazy. Just kidding. He's

30:28

on it.

30:31

Oh, miss baby. Oh,

30:34

my god.

30:36

He's so cute. He's got a burly little chest.

30:38

He's tiny and he has a burly chest. And

30:40

look at him. We're always older stuff.

30:43

He looks like he's got haired ducks in him.

30:45

You're right. Oh my

30:47

god. He is adorable. Yeah. Of

30:50

him.

30:51

So here's a little end to your story here.

30:53

Or is this a new one? I don't know. It says

30:55

regarding the man who peed another another person in

30:57

the plane, you should listen to the podcast, Betty

31:00

in the sky with a suitcase. It's hilarious stories of a

31:02

flight attendant, peeing on people

31:04

seems to be not uncommon for people

31:06

who take ambient or mix some anti

31:08

anxiety pills with alcohol. Oh

31:10

my god. And I'm sure they don't even know they're not

31:13

in the bath. Oh Jesus.

31:14

Alright. This is Jim Lisa

31:16

pronounced she in her. Hi ladies. I've been a long

31:18

time listener. Try to submit this in the past I think

31:20

I forgot to hit send. Who

31:23

knows? AOL. I'm not the best

31:25

techie out there. You and me both

31:27

sister. But I have a submission

31:29

of things parents have said. My mom liked

31:31

to use the word twat, yes, twat. She

31:33

would call everyone a twat. Well, one day

31:35

about thirty years ago, I was grudgingly at church

31:37

with my parents, but this day turned out to be

31:39

the best time there. We were leaving

31:42

church and the priest was at the

31:44

door saying goodbye to everyone. We were saying our goodbyes,

31:46

and I don't remember what he said, but my

31:48

mom said, oh, father, don't be such

31:50

a twat. I

31:52

almost died. I realized

31:54

right then and there she had no clue

31:56

what it meant. Luckily, I

31:58

don't think you had any clue what the term

32:00

meant either or if he did, he didn't

32:02

seem phased. We lead, and I turn to

32:04

my mom, and I say, do you know what that means?

32:06

And she looks at me with

32:08

exasperation Pnut says,

32:10

of course, Okay. I say, what

32:12

does it mean? And she said, it means silly

32:14

or goofball. I

32:16

was rolling. I told her what it meant and

32:18

she stopped dead on her tracks and Barry angrily

32:20

said, no, it doesn't. Well,

32:22

after that, I never heard her use the term and

32:24

for a few years after she adamantly

32:26

would deny the story.

32:28

I stopped torching her after a while, but every time I hear

32:30

the word, I smile and think of my mom calling

32:33

her priest to twat. She

32:36

has oh, she has recently passed

32:38

in the a story still makes me smile. I

32:40

provided a picture of a momento that my

32:42

sister made me with my mom's old

32:44

jewelry. It's a special thing to have of

32:46

her as well. I have also provided my pet tax, our new

32:48

kitten I saved and was going to foster

32:51

but failed. Her name is nugget,

32:53

and she is a

32:56

love. I forgot how much

32:58

entertainment a kitten can provide. I hope you have

33:00

a wonderful day in keeping the amazing

33:02

women you are. She's

33:05

beautiful. She is.

33:08

And that jewelry piece is

33:10

absolutely gorgeous. That's incredible. What

33:12

a cool idea? Yeah.

33:14

I love this idea so much little broaches

33:16

and pins to make a tree. And

33:18

now it's lovely. That is Pnut enough people do

33:20

this. That is fantastic. Thank

33:23

you for all your submissions and

33:26

just a little tiny smidge

33:28

of breaking news that I will cover tomorrow

33:30

for you all just came across my

33:32

desk here, special counsel, Jack Smith, has subpoenaed

33:34

Rudy Giuliani, asking him to

33:36

turn over records to a federal grand jury

33:38

as part of an investigation into the former

33:41

president's fundraising following

33:43

the twenty twenty election. Lovely.

33:46

That's an interesting little subpoena, nugget,

33:49

and we will go over that a little bit

33:51

tomorrow. On the beans definitely

33:53

in-depth on the next episode of

33:55

Jack. Check out cleanup on all forty five. Dana, do

33:57

you have any final thoughts.

33:59

I do an inappropriate one. I'm gonna be

34:01

a little bit of an ear fuck this week because I'm gonna

34:03

be in and out. So I'll be in and

34:05

out of your ears. I just calm

34:07

myself a little earfug. I won't be here tomorrow. I

34:09

will be back with you on let's see today

34:11

and trying to figure out the days

34:14

Thursday morning.

34:16

Mhmm. Yeah. Be back in your ears

34:18

Thursday morning. But AG's got you covered. I will

34:20

miss my friends, and I'll be back in and out this

34:22

week. Alright. Thank you so much

34:24

for that. I appreciate I appreciate

34:26

whenever you can be here. You know that. Mhmm.

34:28

Are you kidding? I love this part

34:30

of my life, and I I'm actually disappointed when

34:32

I can't make the recording, so thanks for putting

34:34

up with my schedule for so long. She don't get to laugh at me saying shit

34:36

like, pannute. Are you kidding? It's my

34:39

new favorite. I was a friend of mine.

34:41

I mean, there was, like, spit

34:43

takes from that Pnut. I

34:46

was hoping that they would write in and actually say

34:48

and lie for me and say that it is pronounced Pnut.

34:50

But I know. Hopefully, they got a good laugh

34:52

out of that. Get that. Alright. I'll be back

34:54

for the beans tomorrow, and Dana will be back with me

34:56

on Thursday. Until then, everybody, please take care of yourself, take

34:58

care of each other, take care of the planet, take care of

35:00

your mental health, but blew over q. And

35:03

take everyone with you. I'm an AG, and been DG. And

35:05

m's the beans. The daily beans is

35:40

They might be giants Pnut been on the road

35:42

for too long. Too long, and they

35:44

might be giants aren't

35:46

even sorry. Not even sorry. And audiences like the shows

35:48

too much too much. And

35:50

now they might be giants are playing their

35:52

breakthrough album, fuck

35:54

all of and they still have time for other stuff. They're

35:56

fooling around. Who can stop? They

35:58

might be giants in their liberal

36:00

rock agenda. Pnut

36:02

one decided to pay for with somebody else's money.
