0:41
Hello. Hello, and welcome to Daily
0:43
Beans for Thursday, January fifth twenty
0:45
twenty three. Today, Kevin McCarthy
0:47
loses three more house speaker elections,
0:50
Ukraine offers Russian soldiers
0:52
a hotline to surrender. The FBI
0:54
has raised the reward for information leading to
0:56
the arrest of the January sixth pipe bomber to half
0:58
a million dollars And Fanone visits
1:01
the speakers office. I'm Alison Gil, and
1:03
I'm Dana Goldberg. Hey,
1:07
Dana. Happy Thursday. Happy Thursday
1:10
to you. I really like this raising
1:12
the half a million dollars,
1:14
by the way, the rest for the one
1:17
sixth pipe bomber. I sure hope that helps.
1:19
Yeah, it's gonna be interesting when we get
1:21
into the news part of it. They're in the hot
1:24
Some interesting updates from the FBI
1:26
on that investigation because they've been
1:28
real quiet about it other than, you know, trying to get
1:30
people to help them find out who the pipe bomber was.
1:32
So we'll get into that in the hot notes.
1:34
Also later in the show, I'm gonna be talking to newly
1:36
minted Arizona Secretary of State,
1:39
our friend, the honorable, Adrienne love
1:42
it. And we're gonna talk about what
1:44
he's going to do to stop the Magifascists
1:46
from trying to royal the elections and,
1:48
you know, just be general assholes. It's
1:50
gonna be a great discussion. I look forward
1:52
to that. Sure anyone can stop the Magna Fascist
1:54
from being general assholes, but good luck.
1:56
Just, you know, legally, you know, to
1:58
speak, but not not generally.
2:00
But, yeah, I'm so glad
2:03
he won that election. And we flipped Arizona Blue,
2:05
a very important election. And I think that
2:08
everyone in Arizona and Arizona's
2:10
can see, you know, the shenanigans
2:12
that we're going on. So I'll talk to him about that. It's
2:14
gonna be a great show. We do have a lot of news
2:16
to get to. Let's hit that notes. Hot
2:19
notes. Dana
2:22
Dana Dana Dana. Oh, boy.
2:24
What a crown
2:27
car of a shit show?
2:29
Yeah. And we're in between adjournments
2:32
right now because basically they they had three more
2:34
Well, I'll talk about this in a And
2:36
then they adjourned, and they're going to
2:39
reconvene at eight PM which
2:42
isn't about a half an hour. So we couldn't really
2:44
postpone recording this show, but it's gonna be interesting
2:46
to see what happens but the house they
2:49
did a jurn and we
2:51
will see he lost Kevin lost his sixth
2:53
bid to become house speaker. We've
2:55
had six ballots now and he's lost them all.
2:58
The situation which has dragged on since Tuesday
3:00
has left congress paralyzed since no member of the
3:02
House of Representatives can be sworn in and no rules can
3:04
be adopted, Until they choose a speaker,
3:07
the house remains stuck after McCarthy was
3:09
nominated several times for the top job
3:11
in that chamber. He appears to have failed again
3:13
to secure that job. On Tuesday,
3:15
he was denied the two hundred and eighteen votes
3:17
he needed by a cadre of Republican hardliners.
3:20
In three separate ballots, it was the first time
3:22
in a century as we've said that speaker was not elected
3:24
on the first round. By the way, Nancy Pelosi,
3:27
nine speakerships. Every single
3:29
one won on the first ballot. Absolutely. A
3:31
group of twenty conservatives is determined
3:34
to oppose McCarthy, and the end
3:36
game remains unclear
3:38
and interestingly though, they did have a little
3:40
meeting after they adjourned earlier after
3:42
the sixth failed vote. And
3:44
there was a rumor going around the hill that they
3:46
were going to concede like Bobert and Gates and
3:48
those twenty, you know, hardliners, the Freedom
3:51
caucus or whatever, Pew. We're
3:53
gonna concede to McCarthy. Because
3:55
he was promising outrageous
3:58
shit, like a like a one member
4:00
could vote to oust him at any time.
4:02
Provision, a vacate provision. He
4:04
was promising Lauren Beaubert the
4:06
gavel to the fucking intelligence
4:09
committee, you know. Good Lord So
4:11
they all met. And then when Bobber and
4:13
Gates emerged, you know, what we thought they
4:15
they might figure out a way to, you know,
4:18
give the gavel to McCarthy. She's like,
4:20
nope. It's gonna get worse for him.
4:22
So, no, that rumor was quickly
4:25
dispelled. We'll see what happens tonight. We'll talk
4:27
about it on tomorrow's beans. I saw a
4:29
tweet and this is just speculation. And
4:31
the tweet was basically talking about how
4:33
Republicans are, like, in disarray
4:35
and their fuckups, but they're also not
4:37
this bad normally until she's wondering
4:39
if there's some criming going on
4:41
right now that they're trying to distract from
4:43
and that they're gonna work this shit out. So we'll
4:45
see. Oh, that's interesting. Interesting
4:47
thought. Interesting thought. Alright. Well, federal
4:49
investigators, they've increased
4:51
this reward for information leading to
4:53
the arrest of the person who left those two
4:55
pipe bombs. Near the capital the day before
4:57
January sixth. This was raised
5:00
by five fold to five hundred thousand
5:02
dollars. The FBI said Wednesday,
5:04
while the announced been made ahead of the two year anniversary
5:06
of the attack, which is just how
5:08
crazy that that's coming up. It indicates
5:10
that federal investigators are still stumped when it
5:12
comes to the identity of the person who
5:14
left those devices outside Republican
5:16
National Committee and the Democratic National
5:18
Committee headquarters on Capitol Hill.
5:20
In a news release, the bureau noted that, quote,
5:23
many of the components used to build the pipe
5:25
bombs were widely available for purchase in
5:27
stores and online, and that's including one eighth
5:29
inch threaded galvanized pipes, end
5:31
caps, kitchen timers, wires, metal
5:33
clips, and homemade black powder. And
5:36
this is a quote in raising the reward
5:38
for information about the pipe bomb suspect from a
5:40
hundred thousand dollars to as much as five hundred thousand.
5:42
Dollars The FBI and her partners are
5:44
seeking to encourage the American public to take
5:46
a fresh look and our seeking
5:48
information website, which includes images
5:50
and video of the suspect, the suspect's
5:52
backpack, the suspect's shoes,
5:55
the explosive devices, and a map of
5:57
the route. The suspect walked the
5:59
night of pipe bombs replaced, and this is
6:01
from the bureau. David Sunberg,
6:03
the assistant director in charge of the FBI's
6:05
Washington Field Office, said that, quote,
6:07
a dedicated team of FBI agents
6:09
analysts and law enforcement partners
6:11
have been tirelessly reviewing evidence in
6:13
digital media related to this case
6:15
for nearly two years. Were
6:17
not to say although these pipe bombs, although
6:19
these bombs did not detonate, it is important
6:22
to remember the suspect walked along residential
6:24
and commercial areas in Capitol Hill just
6:26
blocks from the US capital with
6:28
viable pipe bombs that could have seriously
6:30
injured or killed innocent bystanders. And
6:33
that's from the FBI's news release. Went
6:35
on to say moreover, the suspect may still
6:37
pose a danger to the public or themselves.
6:39
You know what I think? Yeah,
6:41
I would say. Who is
6:43
it? Yeah. I mean, this just shows they really
6:45
don't have a lock on who this
6:47
person is. It
6:50
shouldn't take two years to find them, but here
6:52
we are. I'm wondering about some of
6:54
those, like, you know, GPS,
6:56
tracking people's phones, that sort of
6:59
they used a lot of that geolocation fencing
7:02
when they scooped up everybody in in
7:04
the riot, the actual riot at the capital.
7:06
Or the insurrection, I should say, but that
7:08
they couldn't get a lock on this person might. Maybe
7:10
they didn't have a phone on them. Maybe they knew. You know, I
7:12
don't know. Absolutely. Man. Alright.
7:14
My friend, former Metropolitan Police Department,
7:17
Mike Fanone, showed up at the
7:19
capital today on Wednesday to watch the
7:21
absolute cluster fuck unfolding among
7:23
Republicans over McCarthy's flailing
7:26
bid to become house speaker. This is the
7:28
Daily Beast writing. After
7:30
three separate votes failed today and three of
7:32
the day before to secure him the speakership Tuesday.
7:35
Another vote was scheduled for Wednesday afternoon,
7:37
and McCarthy was accused by his GOP
7:39
of squadting in the speaker's
7:42
office. That's a story. A
7:44
letter to the architect, to
7:46
the capital architect from Matt Gates saying
7:48
he's squatting. He shouldn't be in there. He's the
7:50
speaker because he moved his shit into the speaker's
7:53
office. And with McCarthy hold
7:55
up inside the office, phenone who
7:57
previously called McCarthy a fucking
7:59
Weasel bitch for continuing to support
8:01
Donald Trump after the capital riot.
8:04
So I love my my for now. I love
8:06
him so much. He suddenly showed up
8:08
outside the hallway. What are you doing here?
8:10
He said I heard he was having some trouble.
8:12
This is according to the Washington Times reporter
8:15
who tweeted about the surprise guest,
8:17
I thought I'd rub it in. ABC's
8:19
Gabe Ferris tweeted, Fanaan pointed out
8:21
to outside the door where the speaker's name would normally
8:23
be saying, yeah, just here to rub it in.
8:25
And maybe the fourth time is
8:27
the charm, he said. This because this was after
8:29
the third vote. Furnone has
8:31
been outspoken and criticizing GOP leaders for
8:33
downplaying the deadly insurrection, having
8:35
testified as we know before the January sixth committee
8:37
about how he was grabbed beaten tased.
8:39
Who called a traitor while protecting lawmakers
8:41
that day. Thank you so much, AG. And
8:43
this story is a little outstanding to me,
8:46
but more than a million Russians
8:48
a million Russians have called, texted or
8:50
visited the website of a Ukrainian hotline
8:52
that allows them to surrender. With
8:55
many seeking a way to avoid going to
8:57
war since Russia's full scale invasion
8:59
of Ukraine began. That's
9:01
according to that hotline. Now,
9:03
the hotline which is run by the quote, I
9:05
want to live project has received
9:07
about two hundred to three hundred daily
9:09
calls in September. Said
9:12
Vitale Vianco? The
9:14
project spokesperson. Instead of
9:16
calling, some Russians choose to send encrypted
9:18
messages via telegram. Now although
9:20
more than four thousand people have submitted a
9:22
request to surrender, to
9:24
surrender. This is a quote.
9:26
We saw that there are many
9:28
Russians who do not want to fight.
9:30
Med Vanco said, their numbers
9:32
skyrocketed after Putin announced
9:34
mobilization in Russia, while
9:36
Ukrainian armed forces liberated
9:38
vast territories in the
9:40
Karkiv region, in a fominate
9:42
counter offensive. What's interesting
9:44
is Matt Danco's he has a face as well known
9:46
to many Russians. He acted in a few Russian
9:49
TV series before the war started. And
9:51
that's why he was offered the role of a
9:53
spokesperson that I want to live
9:55
project. UKrainian officials said Russians who are
9:57
considering crossing the front line might
9:59
wanna see someone familiar that they
10:01
can trust on the other side.
10:03
While the hotline's now functioning in a secure secret
10:05
facility in which many officials and
10:07
military staffers aren't allowed to enter,
10:09
the operators use only
10:11
computers. Headphones and special software
10:13
to accept and record the calls. Mhmm. This
10:15
is a quote, many of those
10:17
who called are scared. They
10:19
wanna know whether this project is real and
10:21
how it's possible for a Russian soldier to
10:23
escape from the army. Wow.
10:25
There were some prank calls, of course, most
10:27
were real, said, Oksana. One of
10:29
the employees receiving calls on the hotline,
10:31
whose name has been changed for security reasons.
10:34
The Russians who follow
10:36
the surrender rules are legally considered
10:38
prisoners of war. Ukranian
10:40
authorities have said that status
10:42
guarantees they are treated according to the Geneva
10:44
conventions and they can receive
10:46
necessary medical treatment in food They
10:48
can also call their relatives. Now
10:50
leaders of the projects said they expect to
10:52
continue expand this with plans
10:54
for a separate program in Ukraine
10:56
and abroad from members of Russia's often or
10:58
corp who are seeking surrender.
11:00
This is outstanding. It's
11:03
huge. Yeah. Yeah. And I
11:05
remember thinking early on.
11:07
In Putin's war that
11:09
the Ukraine, the Ukrainians, should
11:12
offer them asylum. Defect
11:14
Yeah. Do you citizenship? Get the fuck out of Russia,
11:16
you know? And
11:20
we know that
11:22
we know that those in Ukraine will follow.
11:24
The Geneva guidelines as well and and
11:26
treat everybody
11:27
exceptionally. Do you know what I mean? It's like it's
11:30
it's a very
11:30
different It's a very different
11:32
kind of the way that
11:35
the the the Ukrainians are treating captured Russian
11:37
soldiers very different from the way Russians are
11:39
treating cats. A hundred percent.
11:42
So very interesting. I'm I'm gonna keep a
11:44
close eye on this story because III
11:46
love where this is going. I also love that
11:48
they're gonna, you know, expand it to
11:50
include some of these flag officers who, like,
11:52
wanna get the fuck out. You know? So
11:54
we'll we'll see how that goes. But thank you for
11:56
that story, very incredible reporting
11:59
to from NBC News, by the way. Absolutely.
12:01
Alright. We're gonna be right back with
12:03
the brand new, Secretary of State, the
12:05
honorable Adrian He's been on our show
12:07
before, but at that time he was
12:09
the Maricopa County
12:10
Recorder, and now he is
12:12
secretary state. We'll be right back with that
12:14
interview. Stick
12:15
around. After these messages
12:17
will be right back. Hey,
12:21
everyone. It's AG, and I take AG
12:23
one by athletic greens literally
12:25
every day. If I can quote parks and rec, I
12:27
started taking athletic greens because I wanted to
12:29
boost my energy in my immune system. I
12:31
take AG1 every morning, before I make my coffee,
12:33
before I go to the gym, it makes me feel
12:35
unstoppable. And thank athletic greens for
12:37
their support. They're offering you a free
12:39
one year supply of immune supporting vitamin
12:41
d plus, five free travel
12:43
packs with your first purchase when you go to
12:45
athleticgreens dot comdaily beans.
12:47
It seems like I have tried literally
12:49
hundreds of different supplements out there at a cabinet
12:51
full. It was costing me a fortune. It was
12:53
taking up on the space. This is
12:55
different and the ingredients are top shelf.
12:57
I first learned about AG1 from a good friend of mine
12:59
who took it every day, said it was the easiest
13:01
habit she ever picked up and it makes it so
13:03
easy. To take the highest quality supplements. It's only one
13:05
scoop of powder. It's delicious mixed with
13:07
water once a day. I notice right
13:09
away it adds a little boost to my energy.
13:11
And I even started sleeping better. If I had to pick only
13:13
one thing to do to take care of my health, I would
13:15
choose AG1 by athletic greens every
13:17
time. An AG1 by athletic greens is a
13:19
great value too. It replaces all of
13:21
those daily supplements taking up all that
13:23
cabinet space just with one delicious
13:25
scoop. It's an easy, quick,
13:27
seamless daily habit saving me time and money
13:29
every day you have to try it. So if you're
13:31
looking for a simpler, more cost effective
13:33
supplement chain, athletic greens is giving you a
13:35
free one year supply of vitamin d and
13:37
five free travel packs with your first purchase.

13:45
Hi. My name
13:48
is Lila Nordstrom from the podcast. What
13:50
can I do? And This
13:52
year, I'm thankful to be part of a
13:54
political community that's optimistic
13:57
and believes in the possibility that our
13:59
problems can be fixed and society
14:01
can change in our work matters. And
14:04
I'm especially thankful that I
14:06
get the opportunity to speak to the
14:08
kinds of national and local political
14:10
leaders who make it possible to believe
14:12
in that kind of possibility.
14:14
Everybody, welcome back. There is
14:17
a new piece in the guardian.
14:19
And it's entitled how Adrian
14:21
plans to protect Arizona's elections
14:24
from maga fascists, quote
14:26
unquote, And joining me today the
14:28
newly minted, honorable Secretary of
14:30
State of Arizona, Adrian Fontas.
14:33
Adrian, how are you? I'm great. What's
14:35
cooking? It's so good to
14:37
speak to you again, my friend. Congratulations
14:39
on the win, a hard fought
14:41
election in Arizona. Where we
14:43
now, I believe, have the Well,
14:47
a really wonderful representative
14:49
leadership. There in in my
14:51
in my old home state. So I
14:53
appreciate you and all your work, and I'm
14:55
glad that you are where you're at today.
14:57
Thank you so much. Yeah. It was it
15:00
was a heck of a battle getting
15:02
here. And for the
15:04
first time in forty
15:06
eight years, the top three executive
15:09
officers are not only helped by
15:11
Democrats, but for the first time
15:13
since statehood, All three
15:16
offices, the governor, the secretary of the
15:18
attorney general, are held by Arizona
15:19
natives. So we're
15:22
very proud. It's a very proud time in
15:24
Arizona. Yeah. And I imagine you're gonna get a lot
15:26
of really great work done. And I wanted to
15:28
start with this piece and some of the
15:30
things that you had to say about
15:32
now that the rubber is gonna meet the
15:34
road, how do you protect Arizona's
15:37
elections? Because you actually have a really great
15:39
history yourself you have experience running clean
15:41
elections and secure elections in that
15:42
state. And going forward, how are you going to continue
15:45
to protect those elections from the maggas?
15:47
Yeah. Well, you know, just as a matter
15:49
of quick background, when I was the Maricopa County
15:51
recorder between twenty sixteen and and
15:53
through the twenty twenty election season here,
15:56
when we completely revamped the
15:58
election system and Maricopa County is the second
16:00
largest voting jurisdiction in the United States
16:02
of America. A lot of people don't know that.
16:04
Second, only to Los Angeles County.
16:06
So it's about two thirds of Arizona's
16:08
voters. And so now we
16:10
get to at the
16:12
regulatory level from the Secretary of
16:14
State's Office, do the things that you're
16:16
asking about. Right? Make sure that we've
16:18
got procedures in place through the procedures
16:20
manual that are easy to understand, not just for
16:22
the folks administering elections, but for the
16:24
public, making sure that
16:26
we are secure in our network
16:28
connectivity, which is, of course,
16:30
statewide as it must be.
16:32
And and then making sure that we've got a
16:34
good solid set of training resources
16:36
for those folks out there in the counties
16:38
who actually run
16:40
Arizona's elections. The secretary is
16:42
a chief regulator and chief collection
16:45
officer. But the folks in the
16:47
counties do all the hard work. So we're
16:49
really hoping to be able to help them out
16:51
and hopefully convince the alleged legislature
16:53
that they need more
16:53
resources. Yeah. And and it really
16:56
also feels like Arizona's
16:58
are done with the shenanigans. And then
17:00
not just the voters themselves,
17:02
But the courts, we've seen several frivolous
17:06
lawsuits that have, in some cases,
17:08
been hit with through eleven sanctions, and in
17:10
other cases, been forced to pay attorney's
17:12
fees. And it just really feels
17:15
like like the electorate and
17:17
the whole infrastructure is
17:19
is done with this election denial, you
17:21
know, falsehoods about election
17:23
fraud. And I think that's gonna carry all a
17:25
long
17:25
way. Yeah. Well, you know, you
17:28
can only You can only pitch those
17:30
nonsensical stories for so long
17:32
until people get fed up. And I think that's
17:34
really what happened. You know,
17:36
we Let let's not
17:38
forget. So so I am a Democrat.
17:41
Thirty point two percent
17:43
of Arizona voters are
17:44
Democrats.
17:44
I won by with a fifty three percent.
17:46
Right? So that means a heck of a lot more
17:48
than just Democrats voters for me.
17:50
A lot of Republicans and a lot of
17:53
independents. And my opponent was one
17:55
of those Mago Fashions. He's one of those
17:57
guys who just does not believe in free and
17:59
fair elections. And and, yeah, so the
18:01
electorate absolutely agreed you
18:03
know, and the characterization I think you're making about
18:06
the courts can be construed as
18:08
such. But no, there are lawsuits at
18:10
any merit in the court. So we're
18:12
really in a place right now where folks are ready
18:14
to move forward. They're ready to
18:16
look at data. They're ready to look
18:18
at reality. They're ready to listen
18:20
to election administrators, I
18:23
hope, and and find out
18:25
what more they
18:27
need to continue to bolster what is already a very good
18:29
election system here in
18:30
Arizona. Yeah,
18:31
one of the best. And honestly, I
18:33
I think that a lot of the
18:36
social media from the Maricopa
18:38
County elections officials as as this was
18:40
as the votes were being tallied, I think
18:42
really helped. There was
18:44
you know, fair but
18:47
strong pushback from from a lot of
18:49
these accounts. And and and I think that
18:52
a very long way it was really good to
18:54
see. You know, instead of being back
18:56
on our heels all the time and responding to
18:58
the maga fashuses as you
19:00
put it. To be more out front and more proactive
19:02
about how amazingly run
19:04
these elections are especially in Maricopa
19:06
County, but also statewide. And,
19:08
you know, I wanna talk a little bit about the
19:10
words Magofoches here in
19:12
the article, in the Guardian.
19:15
You explain why you use the word, Magofascists. You
19:17
say these people are not grand old party
19:19
Republicans. They're Magofascists. There's no reason for
19:21
me to call them. By anything other
19:23
than what they are. If they feel a little sensitive about
19:26
that, then maybe they ought to reconsider their positions
19:28
vis a vis American democracy. And
19:31
stop acting like
19:32
fascists. Why is it so important to call
19:35
these things out for what they are? Well,
19:36
because the truth matters. That's why it's
19:39
important. And It is absolutely
19:41
true as we're, you know,
19:43
taping this year. We're seeing the
19:45
battles in Congress for the House Speaker.
19:48
We're seeing some significant splits in the
19:50
Republican Party here in
19:52
Arizona. And and that's clearly
19:54
illustrated by my election. Right? We
19:56
had a lot of the GOP Republicans,
19:58
the grand old party types who
20:00
came over and said, want stability, we
20:02
want predictability, we want a partner we can
20:04
just sit out talk to, even if we don't agree
20:06
on every single thing. And that
20:09
is the candidate that I presented as
20:11
opposed to you know, the which
20:13
is unpredictability, loyalty to
20:15
only one person, not to the rule of law,
20:17
not to the constitution. And
20:19
that at the end of the day, that is
20:22
crashes. And so here's here's the
20:24
critical component, like you mentioned,
20:26
if these folks are upset that
20:29
I am calling them what they are, that they
20:31
need to figure out a different way of
20:33
doing such. Right? If if you're
20:35
upset that you're what somebody's
20:37
telling you, your policies hurt
20:39
families, then pick better
20:41
policies. If you if you're upset
20:43
that, you know, banning books
20:45
is seen as authoritarian
20:47
and anti American stop banning
20:50
books. Right? And and from the
20:52
political center and the political left,
20:54
here's the criticism I have. Just
20:56
call them what they are. Just say
20:58
the truth and say it absurdly
21:01
because it is true and
21:03
stop worrying about
21:05
their feelings because they don't
21:07
care about yours. Right?
21:09
Yeah. Anything Supreme Court is that,
21:11
you know, your your feelings don't matter. And
21:13
if there's anything I learned first round in
21:15
political offices, you know, eat your
21:18
feelings and cry in the shower. You
21:20
got a job to do get out there and do
21:23
it. And when it comes to these sorts of
21:25
when it comes to these sorts of conversations,
21:27
we have to be direct. We have to be
21:29
assertive because we're protecting and
21:31
defending the constitution of the United
21:33
States of
21:33
America. And that we can never lose
21:36
focus on. A
21:37
hundred percent. And and before I let you go
21:40
recently, In the last couple of days,
21:42
Donald Trump is back on true
21:44
social attacking election
21:46
workers like Ruby Freeman and
21:48
Shane Moss How are you? And the Attorney
21:50
General, New Attorney General, and Governor Katie
21:52
Hobbs, what are you gonna do
21:54
to help protect election workers? Because
21:56
you mentioned how important they are to the
21:58
election infrastructure in this article. And
22:00
and I'd like to know some of the
22:02
concrete steps y'all plan on taking to
22:04
ensure that these folks are safe
22:06
Well, conceptually, I think we all both well,
22:08
all three of us. The the governor, our
22:10
new attorney general, Chris Mayes and myself,
22:14
we all agree that we've got to protect
22:16
these folks. I think and I
22:18
can't speak for them, but I think they
22:20
would agree that, you know, guys
22:22
hanging around ballot drop out boxes with long
22:24
rifles and camouflage. That's
22:26
terrorism. That is domestic terrorism
22:28
because it fits the definition perfectly. And so we've
22:30
got to increase the penalties against those
22:32
kinds of things and really make it better.
22:34
And we have to prosecute folks
22:37
who would intimidate or
22:39
threaten their fellow citizens for
22:41
a political end. That's just not how America
22:43
is supposed to work. Look,
22:46
the bottom line is this. I think we
22:48
all in principle believe in
22:50
the same ideals, and we have the
22:52
same values vis à vis protecting
22:54
election workers. And the folks who
22:56
actually make our democracy work.
22:59
The concrete plans are
23:01
developing slowly, but surely don't forget,
23:03
Chris just came out of a
23:05
recount that left some uncertainty.
23:07
Her transition, as I understand, has not
23:09
been as smooth as possible because
23:12
of her predecessor's unwillingness to
23:14
cooperate. And the governor's got
23:16
a big, big, big job ahead of
23:18
her. She's got eighty five or
23:20
ninety five department heads
23:22
an entire executive branch that has
23:24
been dominated by the other party for decades
23:27
or at least a decade and a half.
23:29
And so as far as moving into office, I
23:31
think I've had the easiest of the three of us since I
23:33
took over for governor
23:35
Hobbs here at the secretary's office. But
23:37
we're gonna be getting together soon.
23:39
And hopefully, we can find some
23:41
willing partners the legislature to to
23:43
make things happen, to strengthen
23:45
those penalties against those kinds of
23:47
domestic terrorism that that that
23:49
are so
23:49
deplorable, and I'm happy to use that word. And
23:51
I'm
23:51
happy that you use it as well. I appreciate
23:54
your time today. I look forward to
23:56
see. What y'all do with with my home state, and
23:58
we'll be keeping tabs. And III
24:00
would like to welcome you back a little
24:02
bit later in the year to see
24:05
how things are are going because I I'm
24:07
I'm very excited to see what's to
24:09
come for Arizona's, what they've, you know, what
24:11
they've done with with their hard fought
24:13
elections. I appreciate
24:15
you. Thank you so much. And for your listeners, just to understand,
24:17
Eric's Johnny has not only got free
24:19
and fair access, we are also open
24:22
for business. And we're super excited about
24:24
folks like you who've come from here. One
24:26
of these days, maybe we'll get you back.
24:29
Yeah. I've been toying with the
24:32
idea of running in six against
24:34
Gosar, but I don't know. We'll
24:36
see how it
24:36
goes. Well, we're always good we're always good to watch
24:39
a good fight here in the game. Alright.
24:43
Thank
24:43
you so much. I appreciate your time.
24:45

26:10

26:14
first up from Dan. Oh, Dana.
26:16
I know. Dan, thank
26:18
you in advance. From
26:21
Dan pronouns he and him, hello.
26:23
I'm so glad I found the pod. I'm happy to have it
26:25
as part of my morning routine. Just emailing
26:27
to pay the Tobin's Good News
26:29
baby tax. Wife and I welcomed her
26:31
third in September and thought y'all would love to see
26:33
this baby's baby New Year's
26:35
shoot. Enjoy. Look
26:37
at the baby feet. I
26:40
know how can you not I mean, I
26:42
know some people don't like kids, but you can't
26:44
not like babies. They're
26:46
perfect. Look at the laughing in the last
26:48
photo. I know.
26:50
Oh my god. Congratulations,
26:53
Dan. I'm this perfect
26:55
child. The blue eyed, I can't. Okay.
26:57
I love it. Okay. This is from Robin.
26:59
Pronounced she in her urgent flippett
27:02
blue request. Virginia House of delegates,
27:04
District twenty four is vacant.
27:06
After the death of Ronnie Campbell, who's a Republican,
27:08
and it's up for special election on
27:11
January tenth, early voting through
27:13
January seventh. Campbell's widow is running
27:15
as a Republican to fill his seat,
27:17
and Jade Harris is running as a Democrat
27:19
challenging her for the seat. If possible, could you speak with
27:21
Jade Harris before the election and help spread the
27:23
word about the election to get out more
27:25
votes? Virginia also has another
27:27
special election for federal house in
27:30
February where the Democratic incumbent
27:32
after winning reelection passed away
27:34
from cancer. Reminder to
27:36
listeners in that district to be sure to get out to
27:38
vote to keep that district blue.
27:40
For pet tax, I'm including pics of my
27:42
dad's toy poodle honey,
27:45
demanding a temi rub. Oh,
27:47
hi honey. Thank you for all that information
27:49
and the adorable pup.
27:51
I will reach out to Jade Harris' campaign. I
27:53
I don't know there's not a lot of time between now and
27:55
them, but I'll see what I can do, Robin. And thank you
27:58
for that and this dog, oh my god,
28:00
doing allude. So cute. No. No. Alright.
28:02
From Diane, no pronouns given, hello
28:04
ladies and happy New Year. I have some
28:06
important public health advice to
28:08
share. Since we're in the thick of things
28:10
for flu season, some people will be opting
28:12
for telehealth appointments to avoid exposure to
28:14
the flu COVID strap RSV,
28:16
plague, and miscellaneous other cooties.
28:19
Flying through doctor's offices this time of
28:21
year. As a primary care
28:23
PA, I have some suggestions
28:25
and etiquette I'd like to remind
28:27
and recommend to all patients
28:29
opting to go on video for appointments.
28:32
Alright. Number one, we need three vital
28:34
signs from you. It can be weight, height, blood
28:36
pressure, heart rate, whatever. Please
28:38
do not include penis length as a
28:40
vital sign. We do not care and we
28:42
are not impressed. No.
28:44
That
28:44
means that's happened.
28:46
Number two,
28:46
it is not a fashion show. We don't care what you
28:48
look like or wear, but please do
28:50
wear clothes. Oh my god.
28:53
Oh, Diane. Number
28:55
three, please inform members of your household. You will be
28:57
having a video appointment and or go to a room where
28:59
you're going to have privacy as to avoid
29:01
us seeing your loved Fontes walking past in
29:03
the
29:03
background. With little to no clothes. Okay.
29:05
I'm I'm sensing
29:06
a theme. Number four, speaking of
29:08
where to take your video appointment, here's a list
29:10
of preferred locations to avoid. The
29:12
bathtub, the toilet, loud rooms, your sex
29:15
room or anywhere else you wouldn't show
29:17
your
29:17
mother. Yes, some but not all of
29:20
these have happened to me. God,
29:23
Diane. But
29:23
seriously, please stay healthy and see if you get the flu
29:25
shots and COVID boosters as soon as possible. We
29:27
can't promise you won't get sick, but
29:29
they'll increase your chances of staying out of the hospital and that's
29:32
something. As tax, I have to share a
29:34
treasured and hilarious Christmas ornament made by
29:36
my daughter in the first grade. The
29:38
students were told to make an ornament of their last initials, which
29:41
is d for us and yes, I
29:43
know that makes me a double d.
29:46
I don't know about the d part, but she may
29:49
have a career in gynecology.
29:51
Oh my god. Good
29:54
lord. I
29:57
think the tech drives
30:00
the dogs. The
30:03
little young
30:04
Georgiaoke. It hurts a little to look at tack.
30:07
I'm not
30:09
gonna lie. Alright.
30:11
Here we go. This is from anonymous
30:14
front out and see him. Kitchen table fan from the UK here
30:16
still writing the eye on Dana complimenting
30:18
my accent a year ago,
30:20
The Patreon Drinks. Trigger warning,
30:23
bereavement. Just a general comment
30:25
on trigger warnings for those that may not
30:27
need or understand them in the context of
30:29
recent events. While
30:31
being empathic guy, I'm not had
30:33
much direct adversity in my life
30:35
and never needed a trigger warning.
30:37
I've tried to respect others but always
30:40
felt indifferent. That was until my wonderful dad had a
30:42
sudden and very unexpected heart attack in
30:44
twenty twenty. Luckily, I was there
30:46
and performed CPR until
30:48
the ambulance arrived where they took
30:50
over for me. Another hour
30:52
of work and he was able to be transported to the
30:54
hospital, but sadly the damage was too great
30:56
and he passed away a couple of
30:58
days later. Love and miss him greatly and
31:00
replay the unpleasant episode over in my
31:02
head daily. Since then,
31:04
while I'm coping on the out side. I run
31:06
cold whenever I see her here of heart issues
31:08
even fictionalized. Like that
31:11
experience by Demar Hamlin, I sincerely
31:13
hope he recovers very soon in
31:15
writing. All this to say two things. One, if
31:17
you don't already and you've been lucky enough not
31:19
to need them, please respect people's trigger
31:22
warnings as to never know what people
31:24
may be dealing with. It doesn't take much
31:26
and can mean a great deal to others care and good
31:28
mental health. We can't trigger
31:30
warning everything, but it's a perspective I come to
31:32
learn. That is so important. Two,
31:34
go learn the basics of CPR. While
31:36
I didn't get the outcome I wish every
31:38
day I did. It can and does work and good quality
31:40
CPR is easy to learn, requires learning
31:43
in advance. Go look up your local
31:45
guidance as it changes, but
31:47
take fifteen minutes just to read,
31:49
watch, and learn. Left you both
31:51
and thank you for the work you do in the communities
31:53
you have built. Charing my bunny
31:55
Abraham Lincoln for the pet tax,
31:58
One, the bunny is beautiful. Two,
32:00
anonymous. I think I know who you are,
32:02
and I'm just giving you a big hug and sending
32:04
you love. I'm so sorry to hear about your father.
32:07
Yeah. Truly. And
32:10
III
32:10
understand. I
32:11
understand that and and respecting other
32:14
people. Other
32:14
people's trigger warnings is is
32:16
very important. So thank you for pointing that
32:18
out and
32:19
sending all the love.
32:22
To you, and I still love your
32:23
accent. Thank you,
32:26
everybody, for sending in your news, your good
32:28
news, your stories, the things you
32:30
wanna share. And we really,
32:32
really appreciate it. And you can send anything
32:34
into us at all. You can do it at daily beans pod dot
32:36
com. Just click on contact. Dana, do you
32:38
have any thoughts before we get out of here today.
32:40
No final thoughts. No. For today, I think
32:42
you should sign us off. One day, I'll actually have a
32:44
good one again, but man, my brain feels
32:46
like it's just trying to wrap back up for the
32:48
New Year? Same. Same.
32:50
I'm still stuck somewhere between Christmas and New
32:52
Year's. It's If you had asked
32:54
me Monday, like,
32:56
gun in my head, what day is it? I'd have been like,
32:58
I had a good run. Like, I had no idea
33:00
what what Monday I had no idea
33:02
all day Monday because the New
33:04
Year's Day was Sunday. I was completely lost
33:06
on Monday. I had no idea what day it
33:09
was. That happened to me
33:11
as well. I I it was Monday and
33:13
somebody some no. It was actually
33:15
Tuesday. Somebody said You don't have a two somebody's
33:17
like, don't you have a thing at one? And I'm like,
33:19
that's Tuesday. And they're like, it is Tuesday.
33:21
I'm like, holy shit.
33:22
Okay. Yep.
33:23
Yeah. And the and the fact that we record on
33:25
a different day and the show comes out also kinda
33:27
messes me up a little bit. Totally it
33:29
was Thursday right now. As we are speaking, and I'm like, nope. I
33:31
have Stephanie Miller in the morning. That's sometimes the
33:33
only way I know what day it
33:35
is, is I have Stephanie Miller
33:37
on Thursday mornings. Well, we'll
33:41
be back tomorrow, which is
33:44
Friday. See, this is fucking me
33:46
up. I'm surprised we both haven't lost our minds. Wrap it up.
33:49
Until then, please take care of
33:51
yourselves, take care of each other, take care of the planet, take care
33:53
of your mental health. Hopefully over queue. And take
33:55
everyone with you. No. I've been AG. And
33:57
I've been
33:57
DIG, I think. And I
34:00
think that was the beans. The

giants have been on
34:35
the road for too long. Too long, and they
34:37

34:40
sorry. And audiences like the show's
34:42
too much,
34:44
too much, and now they
34:46
might be giants are playing their breakthrough
34:48
album, fuck all of it, and they

still have time for other

songs. fooling around who can stop. They might be giants in

their liberal rock agenda.
