You're listening to Comedy Central from
0:06
Comedy Central's World news headquarters in
0:08
New York. My Daily Show with River's
0:10
whine Election nightcomb. Come
0:12
up, let's
0:14
try this again, America. Here's
0:27
yeah. Yeah,
0:34
let's don't keep going. Welcome
0:36
to the Danny Show. And that's a nice
0:38
specip. I come, what
0:45
is that live? Let's get
0:47
into it. Take a seat. Take a
0:49
seat. When I say we're live, I mean
0:51
we are life. Anything can go wrong, anything
0:53
can happen. I can say anything, they can edit
0:56
it out. Give me bat live.
1:00
Try sense of that. And uh,
1:02
I don't know about you, but I was hello
1:04
nervous today. I spent
1:06
the whole day updating social media waiting
1:09
to hear the results. But now the votes
1:11
are in and it's official. A
1:14
dress Alba's magazine didn't
1:17
know the sexist not alive. Oh
1:20
man, oh man,
1:23
I was so worried he would lose the vote. Oh
1:27
there was another vote that had me worried today. Yeah,
1:29
the mid terms, the day
1:31
when voters were officially gonna decide is
1:34
America racist or is
1:36
it openly racist? I
1:39
don't know right now. Some people like, oh, if America saw racist,
1:41
Trevor, why didn't you go back to South Africa because it's also a
1:44
racist. That's why I like
1:46
it here. It reminds me of home. So
1:49
let's touch and go for a while. Today the
1:51
blue wave was looking more like a smirking
1:53
pe smurf that was peeing. And uh.
1:56
What was worse is that the results just
1:58
wouldn't come in right the whole the whole
2:00
day, Like for the last few hours. It has been too close
2:02
to call, too early to call. It's like we
2:05
texted America, you up and then all
2:07
we could see is that little typing bubble
2:10
and it's like, yo, just tell me America, do you want to smash
2:12
you or not? But
2:15
after a night sponsored by Petro
2:17
Bismol's official,
2:19
the Democrats have taken the
2:21
house. Yeah
2:32
yeah, look at them, I look at people.
2:34
Look wow, wow,
2:42
okay, okay, okay, wow.
2:45
You guys are almost as excited as Rachel Maddow.
2:47
She when she heard the news, she
2:50
just exploded into a pile of I voted stickers.
2:54
So before we get to the results, please welcome
2:56
my course for the evening wrong with Junia. Everybody
3:01
in the house. Roy,
3:04
I only every one question for you? Did you vote?
3:06
Oh yeah, man? About five six times
3:08
man, multiple
3:10
stuff. I don't. I don't think that's how that's supposed to work, but I
3:12
appreciate your enthusiasm. All Right, we're gonna be We're gonna
3:14
be checking in with Roy. But we do have
3:16
votes that are still coming in. But there are some things
3:19
that we do know for certain. Right. Uh, this
3:21
has been a night of first in Colorado.
3:24
Jared Polis has made history as
3:26
the first openly gay man to
3:29
be a lected governor. Yeah,
3:33
the first openly gay man. How's
3:35
it taking that long? That's amazing? Openly game
3:37
and you know what that means, Colorado, all of you are
3:39
now gay. I don't. I don't
3:41
make the rules. So congratulations. Also,
3:45
Ilhan Omar and Rashida Clide
3:47
had the first female
3:50
Muslims elected to Congress.
3:54
And also and also for the first time,
3:56
the first two Native American women.
3:59
Yeah, so congratulations to Shari
4:01
David's in Kansas and Den Holland
4:04
in New Mexico. That's right, the first
4:06
Native American women elected to
4:08
Congress. That is really excited, like you just like
4:10
see what's happening. And no, no, no, no,
4:13
we're not talking about you. Elizabeth Warren. Shoot
4:17
hold on, shoot hold
4:19
on so many first, help me, help
4:21
me, help me understand this again. Now you got
4:23
two first Muslim women and
4:26
two first Native American women.
4:29
There can only be one first. Only one person could
4:31
be first. You can't have two first at the same time. That's
4:34
mean you can't have a double first. Okay,
4:37
so what are you saying, someone's gonna have to decide who You can't
4:39
have a second like somebody got to be buzz
4:41
All from They can't both be Neil Armstrong. You
4:44
can't have two Neil Armstrongs like
4:46
they didn't. Like when Neil Armstrong jumped out,
4:48
I guess he was the first man on the moon. Yeah, he
4:50
was first, mean buzz All from the second it was one, like they was
4:52
gonna jumped together. The same thing was that they was on Was
4:55
they getting ready to jump in the same To be funny is if
4:57
we found out that that was the plan and then
5:00
it was like, oh, your shoes untied? And then he
5:02
checked and he was like one small staff on man
5:06
that I didn't think of that. Well, they both first,
5:08
it doesn't matter. Moving on to Texas, it
5:10
is being reported that Ted Cruise has
5:12
officially defeated betto Rock um
5:17
No look I mean, Beyonce did
5:19
endorse battles, so in a way, I guess he won. Uh
5:22
yeah, if life gives you Beyonce as you make lemonade
5:24
and look, guys, we can make fun of
5:26
Ted Cruise, but this guy has been reelected
5:29
now, so we have to start showing him some respect.
5:31
So tonight, no jokes about Ted Cruiz. Just congratulations,
5:35
Well done, Senator Ted Cruiz. Congratulations.
5:38
Now you may be surprised that Ted Cruise won a popularity
5:41
contest, but we sent Desi Lighting to Texas
5:43
earlier today, and you know what, you could
5:45
actually tell that the vote wasn't going to be as one
5:47
sided as you think. I mean, people are saying
5:49
that the media is biased for Beato Award, but that's
5:52
ridiculous, right, totally ridiculous.
5:54
So what do you love about him most? I love
5:56
everything about him. What
5:59
do you find most streaming about him? I
6:02
don't think he's dreaming. I
6:05
feel like he's just a normal guy. Yes,
6:07
I love normal men. I love
6:10
the way he speaks to everyone, the fact
6:12
that we need to put party aside and work
6:14
together and we never want to come together. Yes,
6:18
yes, is
6:22
it always this hot in Texas? Yes it is who'd
6:25
you vote for today? I vote for Ted Cruiz? You like
6:27
Ted Cruise? I do like Ted Cruise. Sorry
6:29
I think you misheard me. Um, I said Ted Cruise.
6:32
Yes, I heard you. So who did you
6:34
vote for? Today? Ted Cruz? He's the kind
6:36
of guy you can just sit down and spit
6:38
out a beer with. I suppose
6:40
if bud' dree beer. But yeah,
6:43
I think the media is biased. Totally agree.
6:45
There's no room to be biased. You're
6:48
wearing a Beta shirt. Hey
6:50
isap here because
6:54
he like everybody. Thank you so much, Daisy, So
7:00
tonight as a big night. We have most
7:02
of the results that matter. And for more on tonight's
7:04
election results, let's turn back to my man at the desk
7:06
or with Junior, everybody give it up for one more time. It
7:10
looks like it looks
7:12
like the Democrats have retaken the House.
7:15
So now the question is what does this mean for
7:17
America's future? The future, trup
7:20
The future has already started, not
7:22
that the Democrats have the house. America
7:25
has descended into a socialist chaos,
7:27
just like Trump said it would. It's
7:30
like Venezuela outside, but worst it's Venezuela
7:32
with white people. All
7:35
the socialism but none of the rhythm.
7:39
A rory. Look, man, I don't know if I would trust
7:41
what Trump said, Like he said a lot of things. For instance,
7:43
he said Republicans would keep the House. So this
7:45
is gonna be a tough loss for him. Tough
7:48
loss? Are you're kidding me? This is a great
7:50
night for Donald Trump. Trump right
7:53
now sitting back celebrating with a big,
7:55
juicy cheeseburger and two scoops
7:57
of ice cream twice. That's the frosty
8:00
for bred four Patty special sauce kind of
8:02
night, Trevor, The cheeseburger ala
8:04
mode is reserved for special occasion,
8:06
dude, Like, why would Trump be celebrating
8:08
the Republicans lost the House. It'll be harder to
8:11
achieve his agenda. He'll be facing a lot more
8:13
investigations. How is this a good night? Because
8:16
when all of his policies go wrong,
8:18
he has someone to blame. Stop
8:22
market dropping, Blame the Democrats,
8:24
Farmers hurt by trade, tears thanks Nancy
8:26
Pelosi, even the little stuff, Even the little
8:28
stuff he could blame on the Democrats. Oh your
8:31
couch getting repossessing, pouring hubs down,
8:33
that's on you, Maxine orders. See
8:37
now, Trump has a scapegoat, and
8:40
everybody loves a scapegoat like I like I
8:42
what the house? I love to blame everything on my dog,
8:45
track Mudd in the house, it was the dog. If
8:48
I let a fart slip out, I make sure it's near the
8:50
dog. Trevor, one
8:52
time I got in a car accident and I just screwed
8:54
her over put my dog behind the wheel. I got off scott
8:56
free. Why it doesn't make sense dogs
8:58
can't drive. That can mond for two years
9:01
to spend a license. So
9:04
you think Donald Trump was the real win of tonight.
9:07
Hell no, I'm just messing around. Democrats
9:10
spanked that ass like they were Stormy Daniels
9:12
and he was Donald Trump,
9:22
So so the Democrats. The
9:24
Democrats wrote a wave of enthusiasm to retake
9:26
the House, but as we said earlier, the
9:28
wave was less kwa gonga and more
9:31
high and uh. One of the reasons
9:33
the race was so tight wasn't surprising
9:35
lack of enthusiasm in some of the most important
9:38
voting districts. So earlier we sent Michael
9:40
Costa to find out more. Thanks
9:42
Trevor, I'm here in California's district,
9:45
which is a critical house race. But
9:47
like me, there's a ship ton of people here who
9:49
won't be voting, and we all have our reasons.
9:52
Why aren't you voting today? I don't have the
9:54
time. It takes time. It's not
9:56
like there's a polling place right behind you that you could
9:59
vote right out. Did
10:03
you vote today? Do you plan on voting today? Nope?
10:06
Why, I'm just kind of too lazy.
10:09
I got a lot of things for crashing about, and that
10:11
one is gonna make the list. So you have a
10:13
list of things that later you will put
10:15
off. Yeah, I'm not voting.
10:18
Tell me why. I'm just not interested.
10:20
I would say, have you voted in previous elections?
10:23
No? I have not. I'm not registered. Is there an example
10:25
of something you have voted in in the past?
10:27
American Idol? You voted for American Idol. Are you planning
10:30
on voting this election? I am not. A
10:32
lot of politicians don't serve is
10:35
they're not out there. Um, they don't have the
10:37
same connection that surfers have with the ocean
10:39
and our environment, which just discourages
10:41
me from even participating. If politicians
10:44
served, would that change things?
10:46
It may, um, special things
10:48
happen with the ocean. There's a lot of magical things
10:51
that the ocean has to offer even more than
10:53
you know. Are you
10:55
on drugs right now, Maddie, No, I
10:57
don't see drugs. The ocean is my drug.
10:59
Are you happy with the current political environment
11:01
that we have. I don't know enough to answer
11:04
that. You don't know enough to answer that it's not. You
11:06
don't feel like it's affecting you in your life. I
11:08
just feel like enough people don't care, but
11:11
like I feel like more people should care. And
11:13
by more people you mean you, yeah,
11:16
I guess so. So there you have a Trevor. Despite
11:19
living in a swing district, the people in California's
11:21
forty eight have a very clear message and that message
11:24
is Michael
11:26
cost to everyone. Thank you so much, Michael. Stay
11:29
tuned, but Danny Show is live
11:31
and we will be back right after this with more election
11:33
night coverage. Ever about welcome
11:44
back to the Daily shows wide election
11:46
night coverage. There are still results
11:48
coming in from all over the country. News
11:50
from New York where we are. Andrew Cuomo
11:53
was elected to his third term as
11:55
Governor of New York. Yes, Unfortunately
11:58
he cannot make it to the victory party because the subway
12:01
is stuck. Ah, let's
12:04
move into more results that are gonna keep
12:06
coming in from around the country. Um, we're gonna
12:08
go into some analysis right now and how it all went down.
12:11
So please let's go to the Runnie Chang, and I was super high
12:13
tech election sensor. Ronnie, what are you watching
12:15
tonight? What
12:19
am I watching? I'm watching the other network,
12:21
suck, Trevor. That's why I'm watching every
12:24
channel. It's the same thing. Some dude zooming
12:26
in on his high tegulactoral map breaking
12:28
down the vote with deep analysis of congressional
12:31
districts in California's nine
12:33
he was expected to go blue blah blah blah blah blah
12:35
blah boring. That's not deep.
12:38
I'll go so deep. I'm gonna end up back
12:40
in Malaysia coming by county analysis.
12:43
That's pathetic, neighborhoods blah blah
12:45
block. I mean, if that's as deep as you
12:47
can go, good for you. Try and feel good about yourself.
12:49
But I'm going all the way in Trevor
12:52
focusing on one guy, Kyle
12:55
in Vista, California on Hillside Drive.
12:58
Yeah, I'm saying this whole me to my election comes
13:00
down to Kyle. So let's go to the
13:02
hidden cameras I broke in installed last
13:04
week. Okay, while the
13:06
bat he's in the bubble back. So I'm gonna go on a limb
13:08
here and say he's your typical sensitive snowflake
13:11
liberal. But let's get some more intel
13:13
from Kyle's medicine cabinet. It
13:15
looks like a lot of gas X and low
13:17
traman, so obviously calls a huge
13:20
loser, but we still don't know
13:22
how he voted. And I didn't
13:24
want to do this, but yo,
13:27
kyl yo yo, who do you
13:29
vote for? You gassy, fungus infested loser.
13:31
Okay, okay, okaya, Runnie, Runny,
13:33
Runny. We're good, Runny chating everybody, Runnie were go
13:35
ahead? No, thank
13:38
you? Thank you for that analysis.
13:40
That was very very deep and very unethical.
13:43
Um now, there is a lot
13:45
to unpack from these races, right, but unfortunately
13:47
we only have until eleven thirty before Comedy
13:49
Central cuts us off for a rerun of Futurama.
13:52
So to get some political
13:54
analysis and to get it all in, we turned out
13:56
to our own election experts, Jabuki on White and do
13:58
say slow and everybody thank
14:02
you so much for joining us. Like I said, we
14:05
don't have a lot of time, so I'm gonna have to
14:07
ask you to both give your election allatticis
14:09
at the same time. So to start,
14:11
what do you both think about the state of the race
14:14
tonight? Thanks Trevor. Let's
14:16
talk about the House Arizona
14:19
very actually
14:27
crazy story de trains Auntie Tricia
14:29
claims once gave a hand job to guy fiery
14:32
influence. Wow, that
14:35
that actually kind of works. So so let me ask you this, then, do
14:37
you think tonight could be considered as the
14:39
Democrats quote unquote blue wave?
14:43
Good question. It's all about the
14:45
voter, generally speaking,
14:47
the more Americans are, the
14:51
results are for the mar and Marley take
14:54
my word for it. Do not watch Marley
14:56
and Me Drunk as hell on airplane. Got
15:00
it is really interesting. I didn't know that turnout was so correlated
15:02
to minority party success. Now, the last question
15:04
I have is would you say that Trump's rallies
15:06
were an asset to the candidates that he supported.
15:09
No, but it's hard the
15:13
success talking
15:18
election night. Thank you so much, guys,
15:22
Jo Say Stone Jabot, I think you can agree.
15:24
We're all more informed than we were five minutes ago.
15:27
Stay tuned more Election Night coverage coming
15:29
up. When The Daily Show returns, we'll be right back.
15:41
Welcome back. So the Daily Shows
15:43
live election night coverage,
15:45
so we have a few more results here.
15:48
It is official in the Senate race of Utah,
15:50
Mitt Romney has won the race and
15:53
will be uh Utah and new senator.
15:55
And you don't want kids, If you wanted a
15:57
story to inspire you, this is its all right because
16:00
look at mid Romney. The guy was a governor, ran
16:02
for president, lost and he could have
16:04
disappeared off into the woods, but no he
16:06
didn't. He fought right,
16:09
he came back and now he's a senator. You understand
16:11
that this guy had nothing when he started out.
16:13
All he had was a dad who was governor and five million
16:16
dollars. And look at him today.
16:19
Also like how he's he failed at president
16:21
and now he's just like combining all the other jobs to try
16:24
and get presidents. He's like, okay, running
16:26
the Olympics and senator and governor. That's president,
16:28
right, that's president. No, it's not. But congratulations
16:30
to you. We're joined by our special guest
16:32
tonight, Jamiale Smith. Everybody, please welcome,
16:37
Welcome back to the show. And this
16:42
is one of the craziest nights in America
16:44
when all the results are flying in, everybody's trying
16:46
to predict everything. Um,
16:49
do you think, judging by what we've seen so
16:51
far, that this was a good night for America? Or
16:53
is it two call? It's two students a call. Well, it was definitely
16:55
America, that's for sure. We saw we
16:58
saw in Florida in four Suddenly it
17:00
looks like Andrew Gillum has conceded that governor's
17:02
race to Rohn De Santis, And uh,
17:05
that is uh, you know something I think you know, frankly,
17:08
we've seen a discomfort with black leadership
17:10
even though we you know, we've had eight years of a black president,
17:12
but a lot of folks is it's still not ready for black folks
17:15
to run things. But is it fair to say that though, because
17:17
I mean, like you, it's what that was forty
17:19
nine to fifty. I think that's what fifty votes
17:22
that separated that. Well, And it's funny because eight
17:25
million and Amendment four passed
17:27
in Florida tonight, which gives you the right
17:29
of the voting rights back to one
17:32
point six million people who have
17:35
been formally incarcerated. So you
17:37
know, it suffice to say that could have made the difference. It
17:40
really is an interesting, you know
17:42
race to watch it all the mid terms are because
17:45
a lot of people said that this was an interesting mid term because
17:47
it wasn't about the candidates. People said, this is
17:49
about Trump or not Trump. Do
17:52
you think that's what it was and do you think that was decided
17:54
tonight? I think that certainly the House
17:57
victory for the Democrats repudi h Trump in
17:59
a big way that you know, uh, nine
18:01
percent of the you know, the margin
18:04
for the popular vote, which means that you know,
18:07
it's almost you know, that's a lot of people in this country
18:09
who have said, no, the Trump independence abandoned
18:11
Trump. So it is a repudiation of
18:14
Trump in that respect. But
18:16
but then you see the governor's
18:18
races in Georgia right now it's
18:20
still pending campus leading, and in Florida
18:23
and some other states you see Holly winning over
18:25
mccaskell Missouri. So I think that what
18:28
you've seen is that you've seen a repudiation of Trump,
18:30
but you've seen that Trump is um works, Trump
18:32
isn works, but not Trump. Now let's
18:34
go back to the Stacey Abrams
18:36
race. You said it's too close to Cole
18:39
right now, and it looks like camp is winning. It's
18:41
a very strange race for me because I mean the person
18:43
who's meant to be monitoring the race is running in
18:45
the race. Um. And you also
18:48
have a situation where it
18:50
feels like people don't have a
18:53
trust in the voting system
18:55
right now in Georgia. You know, the stories that we were coming
18:57
up online, People are saying like, how is this happening?
19:00
Then, most importantly for many the polls, the
19:02
polls had Stacey Abrams winning and it doesn't
19:04
seem like that's happening. When when does
19:06
the news stop reporting the polls to people? When
19:08
when does that just go out of the window. Honestly, I mean
19:11
a lot of us in the news don't pay attention to the polls
19:13
because we look at what happened in sixteen.
19:15
You had people overestimating, you know, the
19:18
the support for Hillary Clinton. Grantedy
19:20
won by more than three million votes nationwide,
19:22
but national polls didn't really matter. It mattered
19:24
about what happened in those states. And you see the same
19:27
kind of thing playing out tonight. And I think what we need
19:29
to understand is that there are other dynamics that play
19:31
here. There's something called the Bradley effect, where
19:33
a lot of people say they're going to vote safe for a
19:35
black hand in it, and then they get inside that polling
19:38
place, they get into that ballot and that ballot
19:40
and they're like, I don't know if I can pull
19:42
the lever for the black guy. And so unfortunately,
19:45
I think that, you know, we've seen a lot of that in this election.
19:47
And I don't know if that's the only
19:50
reason why Abrams is down and
19:52
get them lost, but I think that it certainly it contributes
19:55
to it. I think a lot of folks don't, you know, understand
19:57
how race and racism play in this country. I
19:59
know it's too soon to say for certain, but
20:02
the Democrats have the House. Does
20:05
this mean that America is starting to veal
20:07
on on a to what a different course? Does this
20:09
mean that Democrats can begin a fight back?
20:12
Does this lit Republicans reassess
20:14
what their messages with Trump. I think it means
20:16
that this is the beginning of the fight. Frankly, I mean,
20:18
you have, uh, It's democratic House
20:20
can now subpoena pretty much anyone
20:23
they want. They can start the investigations. They can basically
20:25
do what Congress is supposed to do, which is to
20:27
put a check on the president. And while
20:29
he's still gonna have to sendate to appoint his judges and
20:31
whatnot, these legislative agenda is
20:33
essentially dead. And so don't
20:37
don't don't cheer yet, don't
20:39
here yet, because that gives them a lot of time to
20:41
do other things, Okay, like start
20:43
more wars. So like
20:46
an emotional roller costion. Yeah, it's And
20:49
the thing is that there are no clear answers from this election.
20:51
I think we're really gonna have to see not only how the President
20:53
reacts, but also how strongly Democrats
20:56
go forward now that they have people, even the people that
20:58
lost, you betto uh Gilham
21:00
and possibly Abrams, real stars in their
21:02
party that have shown a pathway forward for them
21:04
to not just you know, run against trumpet
21:06
to confront racism. And we're gonna
21:08
see if the Democrats follow their lead.
21:11
Are you gonna know they lost? It's gonna be exciting
21:13
to watch. Thank you so much for being on the show. Great Senio
