You're listening to Comedy Central January

0:06

Night two from

0:10

Comedy Central's World News headquarters in

0:12

New York. This is the Daily Show with

0:14

drivers. Welcome

0:30

to the Danny Show. Everybody. Thank you so much

0:32

for tuning in. Thank you for coming out than

0:34

you take a single

0:37

doing. Let's make a show. I'm Trevor Noah.

0:39

Our guest tonight is an NBA superstar

0:41

who plays for the Miami Heat. Jimmy Butler's

0:44

joining us, everybody. Also

0:48

on tonight's show, Nicki Minaj

0:50

is looking horrible. Wildfires

0:52

continue to ravage Australia, and the Queen

0:55

says Harry and Megan ain't going

0:57

nowhere, So let's catch up on today's headlines.

1:03

Let's kick it off with the royal story that's

1:05

got the whole world talking. Yesterday, Prince

1:08

Harry and Megan Markel sent shock

1:10

waves through the UK when they send Buckingham

1:12

Palace a breakup text. But now the

1:14

Queen is saying, slow your roll, bitches.

1:17

Now to that bombshell announcement.

1:19

The whole world is talking about it. Prince Harry

1:21

and Megan Markle revealing that they

1:23

intend to step back as so called

1:26

senior members of the Royal family,

1:29

a rift in the royal family not seen

1:31

for a generation. Prince

1:33

Harry, the most popular royal after the

1:35

Queen, and his American wife Megan,

1:38

issuing what amounts to a declaration

1:40

of independence. Their bombshell announcements

1:43

taking other royals by surprise. There

1:45

was no advance warning for the Queen, Prince

1:47

Charles or Prince William Buckingham

1:50

Palace issuing a terse response.

1:52

Discussions with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex

1:55

are at an early stage. We understand their

1:57

desire to take a different approach. The

2:00

are complicated issues. Oh ship

2:03

just got real. Yeah,

2:05

apparently the Queen is not happy because

2:07

Harry and Megan didn't tell her they

2:10

plan to quit the family business. Yeah,

2:12

and maybe they did tell her, but because she's like a hundred years

2:14

old, she forgot, you don't know. Yeah, maybe they're

2:17

like Grandma, we're leaving the Royal family. She's

2:19

like, when, like next week, what's next

2:21

week? We're leaving? Who's leaving? We

2:23

are? You know what? All? Never mind,

2:25

those suckers fall for it every time. Now

2:29

some people are saying the Queen is upset because the

2:31

royal family needs Harry and Megan to

2:33

stay popular and relevant. I

2:35

think the real reason is that the Queen is mad

2:38

because now she's stuck with a bunch of merchandise she

2:40

can't sell. Yeah, She's like, I can't

2:42

sell shuts that say slay Queen. If

2:44

there's no black family, I'll

2:46

get canceled on Twitter. You

2:49

know who I feel bad for? And all of this though, Megan

2:51

and Harry's son aren't yeah,

2:54

because you realize eventually he's going to grow

2:56

up and be like, so, let me get this straight.

3:00

We used to be in the royal family, like

3:03

I could have been a king, and now I'm

3:05

working at Burger King's that what you're saying, Alright,

3:09

Moving on from the most entitled family in England

3:11

to the most entitled family in the US. President

3:14

Trump has spent nearly a third of his

3:16

days in office visiting one of his own

3:19

vacation properties. And every time

3:21

Trump and his family travels, it costs

3:23

the taxpayers money. And if you'd like to

3:25

know how much money, well, there's good news

3:28

and bad news. The Washington Post

3:30

reports the Trump administration wants

3:32

to delay until after the election

3:34

a Democratic proposal it requires

3:37

the Secret Service to disclose just how much

3:39

it spends on protecting the president and

3:41

his family when they travel the Secret

3:44

Service as part of the Treasury Department.

3:46

Treasury Secretary Steve Venusian has reportedly

3:48

agreed to the idea, but wants

3:51

to start it after the presidential election.

3:54

Oh yes, that's right, Steve Manuchin, Treasury

3:56

Secretary and corporate Kylo Ren says

3:59

he will disclosed how much money

4:01

the Secret Service spends on Trump, but only

4:04

after the election. And

4:06

that can't be a good sign. Why after the

4:08

election? Huh, that's like asking a hook

4:10

up if they've been tested and they say yeah,

4:12

yeah, yeah I was, and I'll tell you the results after

4:15

we smash. Now,

4:17

protecting a president has always cost money,

4:19

let's be fair. But Trump is a special

4:21

case because this is the first time where the Secret

4:23

Service also has to protect the president from himself.

4:26

Yeah, they're like, watch out, Mr President, the stove is hot,

4:28

sir. What did I just say? Stop that? Sir?

4:31

Stop? Okay? You want to touch it? Touch it? Touch it? Touch it?

4:33

Do you want to touch it? Like? No, I learned my lesson.

4:40

It turned him out. Are you gonna

4:42

touch it? No? No, I'm not touching Now

4:45

we already know that since he became president

4:47

Trump's travel as has cost taxpayer about

4:49

a hundred million dollars. Well, I want to

4:52

know is a breakdown. I want to see a breakdown

4:54

of what they spend on each member of the Trump

4:56

family, because I bet they spend like a fortune

4:58

to protect Ivanka. But then they just buy

5:00

Erica group on for karate lessons and

5:03

figure that ship out all

5:06

right. And finally some news going viral

5:08

online. Madame Tussad's is world

5:10

famous for creating lifelike wax replicas

5:13

of famous people throughout time, but

5:15

they're also famous for sometimes getting it very

5:17

wrong. Waig, a

5:20

celebrity at Manitousso's, is

5:22

being roasted online. It's the figure of Nicki

5:24

Minaj at the Tussad's museum in

5:26

Berlin. The image is supposed to be a rapper from

5:29

her music video, but social media

5:31

thinks it's not even close. One week

5:33

called it a mess and asked as Google

5:35

not exist. Okay, that is

5:37

a terrible looking replica of Nicki

5:40

Minaj. It's almost like the sculptor focus

5:42

focused so much on the ass and when he got to the face,

5:44

he was just like, I'm tired, I don't I don't know.

5:48

But instead of asking why doesn't this

5:50

wax figure look like Nicki Minaj. I feel like people should

5:52

be asking the question why are we still making

5:54

wax figures Because

5:56

in the seventeen hundreds, when Madame Tussage started,

5:58

it made sense, you know what people look

6:00

like. Right now we have cameras, right,

6:03

no one out there is like I want to know what Ed Sheran

6:05

looks like, but I want bees to be involved.

6:09

I mean. At the same time, I also kind of feel bad for the people

6:11

who work at Madame Tassa's because making wax

6:13

figures is difficult, Like even a candle is

6:15

hard to make. One time, I tried to make a

6:17

candle for my mom for her birthday that came

6:19

out looking like Mitch McConnell. Yeah,

6:23

and here's my big issue. Here's my big issue. Why

6:25

did they make Nicki Minaj's wax figure in that

6:27

position? Like

6:29

like you know what I mean, no, because everyone else's

6:31

wax figure gets to stand. Beyonce stands,

6:34

Elton John stands. But Nicki Minaj just

6:36

asked up like that's her natural position

6:38

in life. She did that once, so like

6:41

she goes through the grocery store like yes, yes,

6:43

some milk players, some milk,

6:48

NICKI minaj, I'll be piste off at that. It's

6:50

the same way I bet Jesus will be piste off when he comes back

6:52

to Earth. He's gonna be Wait. I was crucified one time,

6:54

and that's how you remember me one

6:56

time? What about the time I walked on water? Where's

6:59

the statue of that? Remember the magic trick

7:01

with the wine? Where's the statue of that? And also why do I look

7:03

white? What the hell is going on? All

7:05

right, that's it from the headlines. Let's move on to our top

7:08

story. Let's

7:13

talk about Australia. It's the country

7:16

you go to when you want to have an adventure but

7:18

don't want to translate anything. Now,

7:21

If you've heard about Australia recently, it's because

7:23

your social media feed has been full of people

7:25

asking you to pray for Australia.

7:27

So let's find out more about the crisis happening

7:30

down under in our recurring segments. If you don't

7:32

know, now you know. Like

7:42

many places around the world, Australia

7:44

has an annual fire season, but

7:47

thanks to climate change, this year

7:49

it's gone from being a season to a

7:51

never ending nightmare. Halfway

7:53

across the world, a catastrophic situation

7:56

is playing out in Australia, where massive

7:58

wildfires are forcing thousands of people from

8:00

their homes. We knew the wildfires in California

8:02

were huge, and last

8:05

year the fires in the Amazon were even bigger,

8:07

but since September the fires here

8:09

in Australia have already burned

8:11

more than three times. Both those

8:14

events combined firefighters facing

8:16

a relentless battle, skies

8:18

thick with smoke and glaring orange. The

8:20

fires generating so much heat, authorities

8:23

say they're creating their own weather system, including

8:25

several fire tornadoes. Holy

8:28

shit, fire tornadoes. You

8:31

know climate change has gotten bad when we're getting

8:33

disaster mashups like

8:35

you realize if we don't do something about climate change,

8:37

this could become the norm, like super disasters

8:40

like tsunami, volcanoes, blizzard,

8:43

earthquakes, most disastrous

8:45

combination of all the Emoji Cats movie

8:51

and these fires. These wildfires

8:53

have been catastrophic on many fronts. They

8:55

caused dozens of deaths, They've destroyed

8:57

thousands of homes, and have

9:00

been especially devastating to Australian

9:02

wildlife. Firefighters are racing

9:04

to save the wildlife amid those wildfires

9:07

still raging the staggering toll

9:09

we've been reporting on here now an estimated

9:11

billion animals lost. Experts

9:14

say eighty percent of Australia's wildlife can

9:16

only be found on this continent. Many

9:18

are now threatened. And this temperature soared

9:21

koala's face dehydration. This

9:23

firefighter led to helping hand, and this

9:25

cyclist gave water to a koala who

9:28

just couldn't drink enough. Oh

9:30

man, that is just heartbreaking,

9:33

and not just because so many animals are being wiped

9:35

out, but because Australia has the coolest

9:37

animals you can't find anywhere

9:40

else. Like no one else has

9:42

animals with a built in fannie pack. Huh

9:44

which other country as an animal that looks like a beaver?

9:46

Bang of duck? And of course

9:49

Australia is home to the rarest species of all the

9:51

Hemsworth brother we need that, we

9:53

need them. I also have

9:55

to say it's hot warming to see people, you know,

9:57

coming to the rescue of animals. Quick heads up,

10:00

And this is completely true. The koala population

10:02

is riddled with chlamydia. So

10:04

I'm just saying you may want to scrub that water bottle

10:07

before you, you know, have sex with it. Uh

10:09

yeah, you don't want to get your own personal bush fire

10:12

now Australians.

10:16

Australians aren't just hurt and scared because of

10:18

these fires right now. There's also a lot of anger

10:20

in the country, and a lot of it is aimed

10:22

at the Australian Prime Minister, Scott Morrison,

10:24

who many Australians feel hasn't

10:26

handled the situation like a leader should.

10:29

This nationwide crisis started

10:31

back in September, the Prime Minister

10:34

continues to face backlash over the

10:36

response. Morrison has been heavily criticized

10:38

for insisting that the responsibility belonged

10:41

to state rather than federal government, and

10:43

for vacationing in Hawaii during the fires.

10:46

I get it that people would have been

10:48

upset to know that I was holidaying

10:50

with my family while their families

10:52

were under great stress. Scott Morrison set

10:55

out for a Prime ministerial moment

10:57

on the fire's front lines. Instead

11:00

rejection of firefighter refusing

11:02

the Prime Minister's handshake. Other

11:04

residents heckled the Prime Minister Comack,

11:08

you're not welcome until

11:11

he drove away from

11:13

Nodia. Tell the Prime Minister to

11:15

go and get from Nelligan. We

11:18

really enjoy doing this. Wow.

11:22

That is an angry Australian man.

11:24

And usually it's hard to tell when Australians are

11:26

angry, mostly because the accident always sounds

11:29

upbeat, and I was just like, Hi, my, I'm

11:31

gonna stop a bloody dingo up your ass. You're

11:34

like, oh, thank you. So

11:37

Australians are angry at the Prime Minister

11:39

because he was on vacation during a crisis

11:41

and he didn't want volunteer firefighters

11:43

to get paid even though they're risking their lives. And

11:46

while Australians are accusing their Prime Minister

11:48

of not sticking stepping up, the rest of

11:50

the world luckily is trying to help in a

11:52

major way. Apocalyptic

11:54

destruction and a global reaction.

11:56

The largest Facebook campaign ever

11:59

has raised more than in thirty million

12:01

US dollars for firefighters. Music

12:03

star Lizzo took a break from her tour

12:05

in Australia to help pack meals

12:07

for fire victims. On Monday, a crew

12:10

of twenty veteran firefighters from California

12:13

who fought some of the state's most devastating

12:15

wildfires, suited up and shipped

12:17

out to Melverne's Kalin Ward. She's

12:19

a model and she's now known as the Naked

12:22

Philanthropist, The twenty year old is offering

12:24

to send nude photos to people who made a donation

12:26

to relief efforts. She posted on Twitter

12:29

that if they made a donation and they sent her proof,

12:31

she was sent back a nude photo of herself. She

12:33

says the idea has helped raise one million

12:36

dollars in donations. Wow,

12:40

this woman raised one million dollars

12:43

in donations with nude photos.

12:45

Really shows you. We can solve all the Will's problems

12:48

if we can just honest the power of horniness. Yeah.

12:51

I mean imagine if people got a nude picture every

12:53

time they recycled properly. People would

12:56

get very diligent about sorting their trash,

12:58

Like, what the hell is wrong with you man? But the plastic

13:00

in the blue bin? I want to see

13:03

that ass. And

13:07

now, despite everyone who's chipping in, Australia

13:09

still needs all the help it can get. So please

13:12

if you can go to the websites on the screen

13:15

and donate whatever it is. You can donate money,

13:17

you can donate time, you can adopt

13:19

the Hemsworth. Every little bit helps. But

13:22

the big thing we've got to remember is that unless the

13:24

world leaders take climate change. Really

13:26

seriously, situations like this are just gonna keep happening.

13:28

And if you don't know, now you know, we'll be right

13:30

back. Welcome

13:45

back to the Day Show. My guest tonight is

13:47

one of the best all around players in the NBA,

13:49

Star of the Miami Heats, a four time

13:52

All Defensive and four time All Star.

13:54

Please welcome Jimmy Butler. Welcome

14:10

to the Daily Show. I appreciate you.

14:12

What what a great time to have you on as well,

14:15

because I mean, you're an amazing basketball

14:17

player. But then today you have been

14:19

in the news for something that happened

14:21

on the court that got someone

14:23

thrown off the court. It was a little

14:25

altercation that you had with a Pacers

14:28

player. I didn't start it, though, that's we have to

14:30

say that first. Okay, you didn't stop. You didn't stop.

14:32

I did not start it, right, But it gets heat to what

14:34

was interesting is I haven't seen many fights in

14:36

basketball that end with one person

14:38

blowing and kiss at the other person. I'll

14:44

agree with you, I would agree, but

14:48

but it was it really a fight or

14:50

it was more of an altercation? Was an altercation

14:53

and you see alter cations in and kisses

14:55

all the time. I'm sure that is true in

14:58

line between love and hate. That's what that is. Do

15:00

you did you think about the movie before you did? It wasn't

15:02

just in the moment. He was just like, this

15:04

is If it was in the moment, I

15:10

feel like that's that's not gonna go over well.

15:12

So I have to say I thought about

15:14

it now a lot of people were excited about

15:16

that moment because there are many people who feel

15:18

like the NBA has become too tame. You

15:20

know. Guys are like, oh, there's no more fighting, there's no

15:22

more roughness. You know. You hear Shaq talking about

15:24

that. D Wade was like, oh, this is old school

15:26

Miami paces again. Do you think

15:29

the game like enjoys moments like

15:31

this where we feel like the players are really invested. I

15:33

think so. I think so everybody likes

15:35

something a little different here and there, right,

15:38

And I just feel as though I'm

15:41

that type of player. Like I don't

15:43

know if I'm the best player. I can't. I can't

15:45

answer that. I can't tell you that, but I

15:47

know I'm not putting up with too many things. Um

15:49

what people want to say. I think if

15:51

you just stick to basketball, it wouldn't happen.

15:54

But time and time again, some

15:56

disrespectful stuff happens. You say

15:58

you're not you, you say you wouldn't

16:01

say you don't know if you're the best player. I would

16:03

say that most people in Miami would say that

16:05

you are, because when you came to the

16:07

Miami Heats, the team was struggling.

16:09

I believe in like tenth place right

16:11

and now in the season that you've been there

16:14

in the East, there in second place now, So

16:16

I mean you are We're doing We're

16:19

doing okay? Were we are? What?

16:21

What's what's interesting? What's interesting is that

16:24

a lot of people were shocked by your decision

16:27

to move from Philly to Miami. They were like, what is Jimmy

16:29

doing? Philly has got the super team and now you

16:31

moving to a team that doesn't have any proven players

16:33

on why make that decision? I mean, for the

16:35

longest time in this league, I wasn't a

16:38

proven player. So for me to

16:40

hear and know the culture and what

16:42

goes on when you're a part of the Miami

16:44

Heat organization, it fit me to

16:46

a team I'm allowed to be me every

16:48

single day that I'm in a jersey, every

16:51

single day that I'm in practice. I get to to talk

16:53

the way that I would like to talk, act the way I

16:55

would like to act, and it's okay. And

16:57

uh, I think we have a great group of guys,

17:00

guys, young guys and mixed with vets, and

17:02

it clicks. It works. Everybody is

17:04

so happy that everybody's successful

17:07

and getting the recognition that they deserve, that

17:10

we're going this way. How do you how do

17:12

you work in Miami? Though? No,

17:15

because I've I've been there, like we've been

17:17

there for the Daily Show and like every day I was

17:19

just like, I don't want to work. It's

17:21

just some it's beach. And They're like, how do you stay focused

17:24

on because if if I remember correctly, you wake

17:26

up at like what four am every

17:29

not every day now, but in the in the summertime,

17:31

every single every single day, and then you were in bed by

17:33

like what nine pm, let's say seven,

17:36

seven pm? Yeah, so

17:38

you know, watching the Daily Show? I

17:42

recorded and I watched it throughout the day, you

17:45

know, But but for real, how have you remained so focused

17:47

in life? Because you see a lot of young players who

17:49

get into the league, they get a lot of money, a lot

17:52

of money that a lot of people are used to

17:54

and you took this and you became one of the most disciplined

17:56

players in the league. How do you think you've maintained that

17:58

focus. I find a

18:01

battle within myself to know if

18:03

it's because I want to continue

18:06

to get better or if I'm

18:08

so scared to go backwards

18:10

and I don't want to go back to being just

18:13

a kid from Tomball. I love where I'm

18:15

from without a doubt, but um,

18:17

I don't think just a kid from tom Ball would

18:20

be sitting on this show with you. So I want

18:22

to continue to get better. Um,

18:24

and I think that's why I do it, But I get

18:26

lost. Is it because I do really

18:28

want to get better? Or is it

18:30

because I'm scared of going backwards?

18:33

I feel like that's that's the theme of your life as well.

18:35

You're one of those people who not

18:37

only wants to become better, not only wants

18:39

to improve the situation of your life, but you

18:41

do that for people around you. One thing you'll

18:43

always hear about Jimmy Butler no matter who you

18:45

speak to in the league, people who know you, they

18:48

go, he has the biggest family

18:50

you've ever come across. And they don't mean like

18:52

like immediate family. They mean like chosen family.

18:55

You've hired anyone you've met

18:57

anywhere who is amazing, you know, whether it's whether it's

19:00

ivers, or trainers or or people

19:02

you just you just brought people into your little organization

19:04

and said, hey, let's grow together as people. Why

19:07

what is it about other human beings that makes you

19:09

want to improve their lives? I think that somewhere

19:13

down the line, on many different

19:16

parts of my life, somebody have given

19:18

me a chance, whether it be at junior college, at Marquette,

19:21

you know, with the Chicago Bulls now with Miami

19:23

that I've come across so many great

19:25

people and I want them to help me

19:28

be better as I help them be better. And

19:30

when I say families like we do everything

19:32

together. When I have to be up at four am,

19:35

they have to be of it. Everybody.

19:38

It's not a game. Everybody. I don't want to be in your

19:40

family, yes, but

19:44

but but that's it. I think everybody

19:46

loves to work, and it reminds me

19:49

of why I do what I do. I know that

19:51

if I'm not the best at what I do, I

19:53

can't continue to make those guys be the best

19:55

at what they do. You also have an interesting

19:58

life that many people would know

20:00

about you. You know it began an interesting

20:02

way. But you are a passionate wine

20:05

collector. Your dream

20:07

is to just like retire on

20:09

a vineyard, just like go up there, like

20:11

grow great and never see me again. You

20:14

may be able to see me again via Skype

20:16

or whatever they use nowadays.

20:18

It's just like gonna be you. It's like doing

20:20

your things and my family where we're all we're all

20:22

going and then everyone's gonna be picking the grapes except

20:25

for me. I don't work

20:27

way too hard. I gotta put my feet up and enjoy

20:29

it. Though I don't

20:31

know. I feel like wine to me is

20:34

a lot like people in the sense that

20:36

it tells a different story. Um,

20:39

every bottle, every vintage, every

20:41

year, and um, the more people that

20:43

I come across, and I learned so much about

20:45

different people in different cultures. Wine.

20:48

For me, you might get a little buzz from

20:50

it, but they never hurt. Uh. It's

20:52

the best tell the story. It does. I

20:54

know that you you celebrated the birth

20:56

of your son, daughter, daughter.

20:59

Congratulation, thank you, gragulations. Yes,

21:02

so I know. So

21:05

you celebrated. You celebrated the birth of

21:07

your daughter, and it was a big moment for you.

21:09

You didn't even play in the games, like a lot of people would still

21:11

go play. You're like, no, I'm out. You know, Miami people

21:13

have to play without me. I'm going to be there with my child.

21:16

Did you have a special bottle of wine for that occasion?

21:19

Because I know like wine collectors have the everyone

21:21

goes like there's a wine for every occasion. Was there a

21:23

wine that you was special enough for

21:25

you to open for having a child? I was

21:27

in a hospital, so I didn't really know if

21:29

you were supposed to be drinking in the hospital.

21:32

So, uh no,

21:35

I can't say that there's a special

21:37

bottle. It was just it was a special moment, right.

21:40

It really put a lot of things in perspective

21:43

to think that, you know, it was I

21:45

don't know what to call it, the next

21:48

of age player in Miami after

21:50

the great Dwyane Wade, YadA, YadA, YadA,

21:53

And I missed my opening nights,

21:56

and so I was calling like, oh man,

21:59

I really loved basketball, and

22:01

I really love my family, and I'm about to

22:03

have a daughter and be a father. What

22:06

do I do? And I called Coach

22:08

Bo and he was like, all right, well, we'll see in a

22:10

couple of days go to the hospital and it made

22:13

it made it easy for me. That is really amazing.

22:15

I'm excited for what the future is gonna bring. I know

22:17

you guys are playing the paces again, so we'll

22:19

see where the kiss takes us. I

22:22

know you guys are gonna handle it on the call. Thank you so much for being

22:24

on the show. Thank you, Silly

22:26

Bumping everybody from the Miami Heat.
