Matthew 20: 26-28. In Matthew 20:26-28, Jesus says thesewords: Whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever wouldbe first among you must be your slave, even as the Son of Man came not to beserved but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.

Today hasbecome known on the calendar as Black Friday. There are myriads and myriads ofsales and deals to be had. Many people enjoy Black Friday and find mildentertainment in the reaction people have to these sales. However, it providesus a sobering contrast to the Christ of Christmas. He calls His followers to belast instead of first. He calls them to be a servant instead of a master. Hereminds them He came to serve them, not to be served. When we consider thesefacts, Black Friday and the entire treatment of Christmas becomes much lessappealing. The Savior who’s birth we celebrate bears little resembling togift-giving holiday we have created. Jesus gave His life as a ransom for many. The day of His death was the true Black Friday. As you celebrate His birth thisyear, do not miss His humble attitude. Do not miss that He came to give yousomething far greater than the presents you receive this year.
