The award winning Dan Patrick Show. So don't miss

0:22

a show, don't miss a moment. Downloaded

0:25

today It's great star

0:45

put ah

0:47

Thanksgiving a time to be

0:50

thankful. Isn't this supposed to be a thankful show.

0:52

We're thankful for a lot of things, for time

0:54

off, for food, how about turkey

0:57

sandwiches, man for our health and football

0:59

and fort end up guys like Rob

1:01

Parker and Jason McIntyre. Why

1:03

you ask, because while Dan and the Danets

1:05

are all they have stepped up to fill

1:08

the boy and that's one of the most generous

1:10

things that anybody's ever done. For

1:12

this show broadcasting from the Mercedes

1:14

Man Cave. Two good guys, I

1:17

love you, Rob Parker and

1:19

Jason McIntyre our

1:23

number three here on The Dan Patrick

1:25

Show. I'm Jason McIntyre. He is

1:27

Rob Parker, the dynamic

1:30

duo in for Dan Patrick and the Danettes.

1:32

Thought that'd be a good amount of alliteration

1:35

for the final hour here on the Dan

1:37

Patrick Show, It's Black Friday. I

1:39

know Rob Parker's buying a lot of clothes

1:41

online because he's trying to floss

1:43

on his Instagram page. I'm not on

1:46

his level. You know, he's a single guy

1:48

who is out there on Golden Girls

1:51

cruises. I am a married guy

1:53

who's just trying to trying to look the part of

1:55

a with

1:58

a wife and kids. How was

2:00

your Thanksgiving, big fella? Very good.

2:02

I did work a double shift. I did Dan Patrick

2:05

yesterday with Doug Gottlieb, and then

2:07

I did The Odd Couple with

2:09

Jonas Knox and today with

2:11

you or The Dan Patrick Show, and then

2:13

tonight Martin Wis and I will

2:16

take over. Chris Brussard is off The Odd Couple

2:18

seven to ten pm Eastern. If

2:20

you want to check it out, you

2:23

know, Jason, I'm I've

2:25

always been a worker my whole life, always

2:27

had two or three jobs. It's just my nature

2:30

and I I've always operated, and

2:33

as a single guy, I've never had an

2:35

issue. And I was married but divorced,

2:37

but I never had an issue with working, especially

2:40

during the holidays when it's better for people

2:42

who are families and wives and kids.

2:44

They should have off, And all I would

2:46

be doing if I took off, would

2:48

be lounging around watching

2:50

television anyway. So I'd rather do

2:53

radio and I'd rather work, you know what I mean

2:55

during these times. So I'm all good. Yeah,

2:57

listens as a new

2:59

relative of new guide to the industry. You

3:01

know, I had done the website, and I knew

3:03

what work ethic was, because Rob, I think I've

3:05

told you the story. So this

3:08

was presocial media. I would I started this

3:10

website, this blog talking about sports. I

3:12

started it anonymously and

3:14

that kind of nobody knew who I was. And I

3:17

would basically wake up at six o'clock on

3:19

the East coast, listen to Howard Stern

3:22

back when he was on the radio in New York, and

3:24

I would get blog items ready and then I'd go to my

3:26

magazine day job, come home, go

3:28

to the gym with the girlfriend who became the wife, and

3:31

then get a couple more blog posts ready for

3:33

tomorrow. And I did that, let's

3:35

just say a while, to gain traction.

3:38

And the only way to get ahead in America

3:40

is busting your hume and working your butt off, and I

3:42

respect it. Rob you worked two shifts

3:44

yesterday, two more today. And

3:47

you know, Rob, you don't have kids. But the one

3:49

thing I try to do every morning is wake up early,

3:52

so when my kids come downstairs, they

3:54

see me getting in some exercise and working

3:57

and just instilling a work ethic

3:59

in your kids, I think is so important

4:02

from Noge to let them know. Man, hey,

4:04

listen, you can't just get ahead sitting around

4:07

looking at TikTok playing video games. That just is

4:09

not gonna cut it in twenty twenty. And I get

4:11

it. Video games are now a thing. I mean, Rob,

4:14

ten years ago esports

4:16

was nothing. Okay, you can now make

4:18

money announcing video games

4:21

and playing video games. And if

4:23

that's your thing, I get that. There

4:25

may only be a few people making money off that now.

4:28

That could be a much bigger deal in

4:30

ten fifteen years. But like you gotta change

4:32

with the times, right, you gotta get with what's hot

4:35

and right now, radio podcast, all

4:37

this stuff is popping, no doubt

4:39

about it. And Jason, I'll tell you this. Being

4:41

in a newspaper business, when I did branch

4:43

out and started doing TV and

4:45

radio, I was criticized early on.

4:48

I can remember back in nineteen

4:50

ninety four taking a job. I

4:52

was a full time columnist at the Detroit Free

4:55

Press and I got a radio show, and

4:57

I was can you be ready for this? I was the

4:59

first guy ever in Detroit to

5:02

have a full time newspaper column and a

5:04

full time radio show, the first one

5:06

who ever did it. And other

5:08

guys in the newspaper business criticize me,

5:10

oh, how could you do that? How

5:12

could you have a radio show? And it's gonna

5:14

take away from your column? Do you know what I mean?

5:17

And now everybody does it. But

5:19

you have to be willing to adjust

5:21

with the times, right yeah,

5:24

and be willing to put in the work.

5:26

So that's where we are. The new model

5:28

if you are out there a big sports fan

5:30

trying to crack in the media, is you

5:32

get paid for radio, you do a podcast,

5:35

you get paid for TV, you get paid to write.

5:38

You gotta have multiple jobs. That's just the new thing.

5:40

My dad worked in the government, Rob, I'm sure

5:42

your parents have a similar story, and he

5:44

essentially was at the same job for what twenty five thirty

5:47

years and then he ends up retiring. And

5:49

now all my friends and

5:52

myself you're bouncing around every

5:54

five ten years. You gotta go with what's hot

5:56

and stay up on everything because the

5:58

world is changing rapidly. And I'm sure

6:00

you guys have heard Adapt or Die. Uh. If

6:02

you don't change with the times, Rob, you're

6:05

kind of missing out. And right now, Rob, there's no bigger

6:07

thing than gambling in sports. As

6:09

we're seeing this global pandemic

6:12

just wipe out all sorts of revenue

6:14

the States have had on multiple

6:16

fronts, from businesses to travel. Where

6:19

are they going to come up with that revenue? And basically

6:22

two areas, um, I

6:24

think marijuana and gambling

6:28

and this they've they've been knocked for many

6:30

years. Weed is now legal and I don't know how

6:32

many states. Maybe we can we could get that

6:34

pulled here, but I don't.

6:37

I don't see why sports gambling isn't a thing ten

6:39

years ago. It was you're you're gambling? What

6:42

now you gamble on your phone? You

6:44

know you could gamble on your phone in the middle of a game

6:46

if you were watching last weekend.

6:48

I was on the Bengals, okay against Washington,

6:51

and I picked the Bengals. I'm in a one point four million

6:53

dollars gambling country the bank. Listen,

6:56

Rob, I watch it took Washington all

6:58

the way on that I'll want Okay, Well, here's the thing. If

7:01

you watch the first half, the Bengals were the right

7:03

side. Joe Burrow went up and down the

7:05

field with ease. They missed two

7:07

field goals and an extra point in the first half.

7:10

Otherwise they're up by you know, ten. At halftime

7:12

it was only nine seven. Joe

7:14

Burrow gets hurt on the I think their first

7:16

series, and instantly if

7:19

you could have gone after that, you know, every time

7:21

there's like a commercial break, the live

7:23

lines pop up and the line moved to only like

7:26

seven points and it was steel. It

7:28

was free money betting against the Bengals

7:30

because if you follow college football, you know this kid Finley,

7:33

whoever he is from NC State, he

7:35

ain't it okay, and it's pretty obvious, like

7:37

I bet Washington live in the game,

7:40

and it was like easy. Bengals didn't score. They had

7:42

robbed twenty one total

7:45

yards in twenty five plays without

7:47

Joe Burrow. And you know how they know this kid

7:49

Finley's nothing. They brought up a practice

7:52

squad guy who's gonna start this weekend against

7:54

a giant, somebody named Brandon Allen. I think

7:56

he went to Arkansas and gambling

7:59

is gonna be a big deal. Rob. I know you're in on

8:01

it and you get it. But

8:03

to the people out there who aren't really in on

8:05

the gambling gold rush, tell them what they're missing

8:07

out on. Well, I mean if you

8:09

follow it, and then gamble's not for everybody.

8:12

I get it, and some people don't have money to

8:14

just put out there, but if you have

8:16

a couple of extra shekels, it's

8:18

worth it. I do a football podcast with TJ

8:20

houshman Zada called

8:22

the Lemon Pepper Parlay Podcast,

8:25

and h TJ is really good, obviously

8:28

all Pro wide receiver in the

8:30

NFL. He knows the game, he's still in

8:32

touch, he works out with a lot of people. So

8:34

it's just good to have a guy like that. And

8:37

then for me, you know, I'm about last

8:39

year on the Eye Couple, Jason,

8:42

I picked at a sixty two percent clip

8:45

winners last year. I'm having a rough

8:48

year this year because games are all

8:50

over the place. But you know, if

8:52

if you have a feel for it,

8:55

it's fun and if

8:57

you like like I thought about for

9:00

in it betting the Lion yesterday

9:02

and then I just didn't do it because I said, I

9:04

don't trust them, you know what I mean?

9:07

And I know that the Texans

9:09

had some players out, but the Lions also,

9:11

we were banged up and had

9:14

some people missing. So I just stayed away

9:16

from it. And sometimes you have to do that,

9:18

you know, when you just have a gut. And

9:21

but it's been uh, it's fun. I

9:24

think it's fun thing. So I got to FS

9:26

one two, you know, in like twenty sixteen

9:28

June, and I, you know, I get this TV thing and it was

9:30

exciting and instantly

9:33

one of my big things is anytime you get a job,

9:35

and this doesn't have to be sports, it could be whatever

9:37

field you're in, make your

9:40

self a handy guy who

9:42

can do anything and step in and help out anywhere.

9:45

And I looked around, I said, guys, why don't I do

9:48

digitally some gambling picks for NFL

9:50

and college football? And they were like, oh, that's

9:52

not a bad idea. And instantly we started

9:55

me doing videos and some of it

9:57

was fun and obviously some of it is to make money to

10:00

make it a fun experience. And here we are

10:02

four years later, I'm the gambling guy for Fox Sports.

10:04

Digitally. We do video picks every week and

10:07

you run hot and cold, and you try to in

10:09

the long term make money. But Rob,

10:11

I just think this is a big deal going forward.

10:14

Sports gambling is gonna be a thing. We're seeing teams

10:16

partner up. League's partner

10:18

up, Yeah, because they don't know exactly

10:20

how big it's going to be, and they want to be in on

10:22

the ground floor. I understand why

10:25

there there and of all

10:27

the sports, Jason, I don't know if you've heard

10:29

this or read this. People who I've talked to

10:32

in gambling, they say the biggest

10:34

boom will be baseball and gambling,

10:37

not football, and mostly

10:39

because there aren't that many football

10:42

games, Jason, And there are a ton of

10:44

baseball games, and you could

10:46

bet on all kinds of stuff, or

10:48

if whether a guy strikes out in it at bat,

10:51

if he hits a home run, if

10:53

the pitches a ball, if the pitch is a strike,

10:55

do you know what I mean? Like, there's all these other

10:58

things. As you watch the game, you'll

11:00

be able to bet. And that's what I've been

11:02

told is that baseball's

11:05

gambling will skyrocket when

11:07

they get it perfected. All right, So this leads

11:09

us to our big wager on

11:12

the NFL marquee game of Sunday

11:14

is it? It might be the game of the week

11:17

Bucks, Chiefs, And

11:20

we've got a situation where Rob's

11:22

favorite guy, what do you call the loat? The loat

11:25

Tom Brady is the loat, the luckiest of all

11:27

time. Okay, it's at four

11:30

thirty on Sunday. Everybody's going to

11:32

be glued to this. It doesn't appear

11:34

as if Ravens Steelers is

11:36

happening at four. I think that's slated for one

11:38

o'clock. So they've basically cleared

11:40

the decks for everybody

11:42

to watch Chiefs

11:45

and Bucks. It's the great quarterback

11:48

Tom Brady against I mean, listen,

11:50

Pat Mahomes. You can make a case, Rob

11:53

that Pat Mahomes at this point is on track

11:55

to be the greatest of all time. I mean, in his

11:57

first year, it starts premature, just

11:59

just just pumped the brakes and its first

12:02

great start, Chris Bussar just

12:04

just be kireful. Wait wait wait wait, And his first

12:06

year as a starter, he won MVP Mahomes

12:08

and but

12:11

last year, but let's just be last year, his touchdowns

12:14

dropped from fifty to twenty six. Okay, so

12:16

let's not he missed some games, No, he missed

12:18

two games. He guess what. Guess

12:20

what? Drew Brees missed more games

12:23

than him and still had more touchdowns than Patrick

12:25

MAHOMESA Mahomes won the

12:27

Super Bowl. But but that doesn't

12:29

I get that. But I'm just talking about the stats.

12:32

He went from fifty to twenty six. That's

12:34

a real number. All I'm saying

12:37

matter all of a sudden, because Tom Brady's got some pretty

12:39

good status here. He's got twenty five passes,

12:41

pumped the brakes, anointing people. He's

12:44

off to a great start. He has a long way

12:46

to go. He's a great start. But also the

12:48

entire league has changed and everyone

12:50

is coming for the Chiefs.

12:53

I hate that my team is in their division. Let me

12:55

just say yeah, but but it's not gonna be forever. And

12:57

you don't know, football is very you

13:00

know what looks like like if I would

13:02

have told you Tom Brady went nine years without winning

13:04

a Super Bowl, you wouldn't believe it. Right, Well, he went

13:06

to a super Bowl, No, but they didn't win, is

13:08

my point. And Patrick Mahomes might go

13:11

to a couple of Super Bowls, but it doesn't mean

13:13

that he's going to win. Since you love stats.

13:15

Tom brady twenty five TV pass is currently

13:18

fourth in the NFL. That's pretty impressive. Now,

13:20

how many interceptions? He has? Nine

13:22

interceptions? That's not even close to the leader

13:24

Carson did have. Bray,

13:27

I will look it up for you, because I'm only

13:30

had eight. He already has nine. Yeah,

13:33

interesting, so his picks are considerably

13:36

up. You know, Russell Wilson's career high for

13:38

interceptions is eleven. He's

13:40

already got ten, Russell,

13:43

I mean, so what does that mean? Russell Wilson really stinks

13:45

now? He was like the well,

13:48

I mean when he's got to carry the entire franchise

13:50

on his back because there's no defense, it's

13:52

tough. Um, I don't

13:55

you know we are We're gonna make this way to stop him

13:57

and trying to hold that money you got,

13:59

say even stashed away. Come on, man,

14:01

let's just bet it. Um. So,

14:04

Mahomes is a three and a half point

14:06

favorite on the road. They're coming off a huge win

14:08

over the Raiders. I will say, Rob, what

14:11

do you make of the Chiefs beating

14:14

the Raiders but not covering. They're

14:16

owing two against the spread against the Raiders,

14:18

a team with no defense. But let's just us

14:21

Mahomes didn't play that great the entire

14:24

game. He only had one touchdown

14:26

going into that and of course he got the game

14:28

winner, but he didn't, you know what I mean.

14:30

So so there was a chance that they could

14:33

have lost that game and lost

14:35

to the Raiders twice. All I'm saying is

14:39

I expect him to beat the Bucks,

14:42

Tom Brady. There won't won't be any magic

14:44

here and it's a downward

14:46

trend, and that would make Tampa

14:48

Bay seven and five, which would

14:50

be disappointing. Would you admit that seven and

14:52

five? Not giving the schedule they played one of the toughest

14:55

schedules in the league. Oh well, but they have also

14:57

you just said he's to go the greatest quarterback of

14:59

all times, the great right, he's got

15:01

the greatest alright? Adding

15:03

him shouldn't be they shouldn't be seven and five.

15:05

Wow, given the schedule that I wouldn't

15:08

get all excited about that, because as you said

15:10

earlier, they're headed toward ten and six, eleven

15:12

and five, Like, the schedule is easy, So

15:14

must they choke at the end or something. Unless they

15:17

choke. Pat Mahomes, by the way, um

15:19

twenty seven touchdowns, two interceptions,

15:23

It has two interceptions. He gets the Raiders zero

15:26

in every other game. Patrick

15:28

Mahomes is really really good. I mean Aaron

15:30

Rodgers touchdown and interceptions, what

15:32

does he have? Twenty eight and four? Yeah,

15:35

Mahomes is better. Um, I like Aaron

15:37

Rodgers a lot. I was asking you about the numbers.

15:40

I think Aaron Rodgers has more touchdowns,

15:42

which is a great bounce back. Ye yeah by

15:45

Aaron Rodgers. UM costs me money

15:47

last week against the Hybody

15:51

nine touchdowns, four picks, touchdowns,

15:55

four interceptions. I've actually argued Rob

15:57

pretty I will defend my argument.

15:59

I think it's been great. Um that Aaron

16:01

Rodgers is like lebron Um

16:04

in terms of he just hasn't

16:06

won as much. But man, when you watch him,

16:08

he is one of the great talents in NFL

16:11

history. I don't think anybody reads. And

16:14

he has the greatest quarterback

16:17

rating quarterback rating of any quarterback

16:20

who's ever played in the NFL. And his

16:22

touchdown the interception ratio is

16:24

through the roof. It's like four to one,

16:27

and I think the next best might be Brady

16:29

at two and a half to one. That's how big

16:31

it is the gap touchdowns to interceptions.

16:34

UM, all right, So what what Let's let's finalize

16:37

the wager here. It's a simple bet. Let's

16:39

just bet on the game. I'm picking Kansas

16:41

City, you're picking Tom Brady and the Bucks.

16:43

And you don't want to do points bread, We don't have to do

16:46

a point spread. Because you believe in Tom Brady.

16:48

I want you to for your love

16:50

for Tom Brady and that this

16:52

is a game that would elevate

16:54

Tampa If tom Brady could could beat

16:57

the Young Buck, could beat the new young guy,

17:00

and and and bounce back from a bad

17:02

loss last week, this would be good for

17:04

Tampa Bay. It would make you feel

17:06

good about Tom Brady. It would make you

17:08

feel good about Tampa Bay having

17:11

a real shot if they beat a quality opponent.

17:13

That's why I'm not in the to the points bread. It's

17:16

about winning, losing and covering

17:18

the spread. Uh, is not

17:20

what Tampa bayed speaking and losing. Aaron

17:22

Rodgers, the guy you just said pumped up big

17:24

time, hasn't been to a Super Bowl in a decade.

17:27

Does he get slander? Are you gonna rip him? No?

17:29

It's the same thing as time I've said that, all

17:31

right, the same thing. Um, I'm not a big

17:33

Jordan sneaker guy. I definitely will

17:35

take a pair if Brady wins a game. Let

17:38

me just ask, um, is there a cap

17:40

on these? I don't want you to come at me and say two

17:43

hundred dollars? Okay, all right, fair enough. So

17:46

if if

17:48

Brady wins, I get two pairs, and

17:51

if my home's win, you get one. Yes,

17:53

we have a wager. It is Gavin

17:56

is here, Gavin. No,

17:59

it's not that game.

18:01

Brady is great with a chip on

18:03

his shoulder. Everyone's doubting him. I love

18:06

betting on a team when everyone is

18:08

low on them, which is where the

18:10

uh the Bucks are right now. And I would also say

18:12

the same about the Packers. Everyone's low on the Packers

18:14

right now. Yeah, Tom Brady off a loss h

18:16

thirty three and twelve against the spread seventy

18:19

three percent. That's why I like the spread. I

18:21

was holding that straight

18:24

up. I mean, I just this defense of the Bucks.

18:27

Rob You watch that game closely, man. The Rams

18:30

had dudes running wide open all

18:32

over Robert Woods, Cooper Cup. I

18:35

mean, guys are wide open, and there's a Bucks defense

18:37

that got basically embarrassed. Todd Todd

18:40

Bowles, like, give me a break, that

18:42

should have been a Rams blowout. Frankly and

18:45

um and the Tom Brady deep stuff worries

18:47

me. One for nine with two picks

18:49

throwing passes over fifteen air yards. Yeah,

18:52

uh, it's tough,

18:55

all right. I guess I'll start going to the Jordan website

18:57

and look it up. Sneakers, Uh,

18:59

just in case, maybe I'll ask

19:01

my kids instead of me profiting, I'll get

19:04

the Jordan Jordan

19:07

ones? Are those the red ones? Now? I will say this,

19:09

Gosh, I hope the executives there are not

19:11

listening. I refuse to wear

19:13

anything with the big check mark on it. I don't. I

19:15

just don't. I'll wear those stuff with the Jordan insignia,

19:18

all right, Well, but the big check mark stuff is kind

19:20

of off putting to me anyways. Coming up

19:22

next, We've got a great guest, former NFL

19:24

coach uh spent a lot of time

19:26

with the Atlanta Falcons, the Chargers.

19:29

I'll keep his name secret, but we'll

19:31

talk to him next here on The Dan Patrick Show.

20:10

baby love that song. Back here on the Dan Patrick

20:13

Show. It's me Jason McIntyre

20:16

and him Rob Parker. Rob Parker, I'm sure

20:18

this is Tevin Campbell correct? I

20:21

think so? Yeah, little Tevin Campbell action.

20:24

I was I think in like elementary or middle

20:26

school when I discovered that one. Back here

20:28

on the Dan Patrick's Show. He is out for

20:32

Black Friday, and we

20:34

decided to book a great guest here because

20:36

we've been doing a lot of football.

20:40

Let's welcome in former NFL coach

20:43

June Jones. He is

20:45

currently offering a coaching class

20:48

on coachtube dot com

20:51

Little Run and Shoot Offense Action. June

20:53

Jones, how are you man? Yes, being good,

20:55

doing good? Thanks for taking

20:57

the time this morning to join us. I'm just curious

20:59

as as a guy who played quarterback growing

21:01

up did a lot of coaching. Can

21:04

you just chime in real quick on the Dallas

21:06

Cowboys decision by Mike McCarthy

21:09

on Thanksgiving Deep in his

21:11

own end down by four to call a

21:13

fake punt end around

21:16

baffling stuff from the Cowboys. Cowboys

21:18

fans are outraged at McCarthy. He kind of

21:20

won them back last week beating the Vikings and

21:23

now he lost everybody again. Yeah,

21:26

that's a tough one. You know. Obviously,

21:28

if it works, we're all praising him.

21:31

But you know, I probably

21:34

would feel a little different if it was one to two

21:36

yards for the first down instead of ten.

21:40

But obviously they had talked about it. I saw

21:42

the Special Team's coach and McCarthy

21:45

talking before it and talking after

21:47

it, and you know, it

21:49

is what it is. It doesn't look pretty. Talking

21:53

about not looking pretty tom Brady throwing

21:55

the ball more than fifteen to twenty yards

21:57

as it looked pretty either, Reese

22:00

Lee June? What what's going on there? Is this

22:02

just father time? Is this

22:04

Tom Bruce Arians asking

22:06

Tom Brady to do more than

22:08

he's really capable. We know about

22:11

the Dinkin and the Duncan in New England, uh,

22:13

and Bruce Arians likes to air the ball

22:16

out. Does Tom Brady have an arm to

22:18

to to be able to do

22:20

this? But it's looking like

22:22

father time is catching up. You

22:24

know, I've been Uh.

22:27

Surprised by the size

22:31

of the inaccuracy, you know. I mean,

22:33

I've never seen Brady miss a guy

22:35

by twenty yards, you know. Uh.

22:38

And I know that he has, you know, trying

22:40

to avoid guys in the pocket and so on

22:42

and so forth, anticipating maybe more

22:45

than he knows where they're going.

22:48

But at the same time, the accuracy

22:50

part of it is very concerning. And

22:53

obviously as a coach, you gotta

22:55

you know, realize what's happening and

22:58

uh, and make sure you do what your

23:00

players can do. And if

23:02

Bruce needs to adjust his

23:05

game plans, then he needs to adjust his game plans

23:07

to get him in the Super Bowl. But let me ask

23:10

you this, June. I want to follow up, did

23:12

Tom Brady maybe not do his due diligence

23:15

when he decided to go down there, because

23:17

this is what Bruce arians does. And

23:20

I hear what you're saying about adjusting.

23:23

But maybe Tom Brady, you know, you

23:25

want to get away from Bill Belichick and do

23:27

your own thing. But maybe

23:30

he went to a guy where where that's

23:32

not the right fit for him, that maybe he

23:34

picked the wrong place. Well,

23:37

I think the places were limited, and it

23:41

certainly looked like a good place at

23:43

the time, and obviously it was a money

23:45

driven decision as well, and

23:49

I don't think anybody was willing

23:51

to offer Tom Brady the

23:54

type of money the Tampa you know did.

23:57

But at the same time, like I

23:59

said, I see

24:02

a lot of similarities to

24:05

what Tampa is running

24:07

on offense right now as to what

24:10

Tom rand maybe five four

24:12

or five years ago, uh

24:14

not not the last season he's with the

24:16

past when they had people that could stretch

24:19

the field a little bit more So, I don't see

24:21

a whole lot of difference that a

24:23

lot of the media is making it out

24:25

to be a different system. You

24:27

certainly call it different things, but

24:29

a lot of you know, you're you're not reinventing

24:32

new plays just

24:34

because he went from the Paths to Tampa

24:37

Bay. He's run all those concepts before.

24:40

June Jones, former NFL coach, let me ask you,

24:42

we're seeing some new stuff defensively

24:45

thrown to Patrick Mahomes of the Chiefs. He's lit

24:47

the league on fire in his first

24:50

couple of years as a starter. But what I what

24:52

I love from Mahomes and Andy Red June

24:55

is that anything they throw at him, Mahomes

24:57

doesn't get rattled. Like in the first

24:59

meeting against the Raiders, you know, they led

25:01

comfortably and they went zone heavy

25:04

and Mahomes picked it apart. So what did they do in this

25:06

next one? They tweaked things defensively

25:08

and Mahomes said, okay, fine, I'm just gonna go to

25:10

the checkdowns. I'm gonna do a lot of handoffs.

25:13

How do you stop an offense like that? I know

25:15

you're a great offensive mind, but I don't

25:17

know how people shut down the Steelers. I

25:19

don't know if the Steelers or anybody can shut down

25:21

the Chiefs. Well, I'm not sure

25:23

anybody can right now either. I think

25:25

the players they have on the field are

25:27

electrifying. They have probably

25:30

four or three speed at every spot,

25:32

and even the tight end is one

25:34

of the faster tight ends. They can catching

25:37

range that that's pretty incredible. And

25:40

you know, when you've run what Andy's

25:43

been running, and a lot of the concepts,

25:45

uh, you know, Marcher

25:47

Broder concepts, a lot of the concepts are

25:49

running shoot concepts, and obviously

25:52

he has his own touch

25:54

on it because of who he is.

25:57

But I think they've seen

25:59

everything. I mean, there's nothing that defense is

26:01

going to throw at him. That he

26:03

hasn't seen at some point

26:06

and knows how to direct the offense

26:09

to to efficiency.

26:12

June, what do you make of what happened down in Miami?

26:15

Toah is a young quarterback. They

26:18

gave him the job a couple

26:20

of weeks ago. Everybody was renting and raving

26:22

about him. He has a bad half or

26:24

a bad three quarters. They go

26:26

back to Ryan Fitzpatrick. We already know

26:29

what he is, a journeyman who's been around.

26:31

He'll play well for a few

26:33

weeks to give him the keys to the car, and then he

26:35

crashes. It. Does

26:38

that hurt a young quarterback's confidence

26:40

or can twa shake it off? Well?

26:44

I don't know if you guys are aware, but I coached

26:46

to in high school this junior year,

26:48

and then I cannot know at

26:50

Maryland, so I know the family and I

26:52

know the kid extremely well. I don't

26:55

think anything can break

26:57

down this kid mentally, he said, A tough

26:59

mentally as he is tough physically.

27:01

I watched the game. I was a

27:03

little bit surprised, even though I

27:06

was rooting for him for the past four weeks,

27:09

when they elected to start him

27:11

over Ryan Fitzpatrick, because

27:14

I thought Ryan had his best game when they set

27:16

him down. At the same

27:18

time, I know they want to get a feel for

27:21

uh you know too and see

27:23

what he can do and what he can't

27:25

do. I watched the Denver game and

27:28

he looked like a rookie quarterback to

27:30

me in that in that game, you know, he

27:35

knowing this where to go with the ball

27:37

quickly when he got pressure, he didn't.

27:40

It wasn't there um And they

27:42

really protected him those first three games

27:45

as you guys watched, they moved him out

27:47

of the pocket with bootlegs and nakeds. He

27:49

drew a certain passes just when

27:52

it was bump and run. Man, he was going to throw a

27:54

fatheh those type

27:56

of things. Well, Denver really uh made

27:59

him looks like a rookie and uh,

28:02

you know, I am I surprised if they're

28:04

going back to Lyon Fitzpatrick. No, I'm not

28:06

surprised because I think they feel they have

28:08

a chance to win it and get into

28:10

it, and now they have a feeling also

28:13

about who too is for him and

28:16

if that time comes where he

28:18

can they can insert him in a game to win

28:20

a game passing the ball and

28:23

be the guy at the end of the game. Then they're gonna

28:25

go with him for for for good. I'm

28:27

sure all right, June, I'll get you out of here on this

28:30

one. My guy, Sam Darnald, you

28:32

know, he's been up and down. The Jets just announced

28:34

that it looks like he's going to be the starter this weekend

28:36

against Miami. I'm just curious, Jess

28:38

get the number one pick. We know they're taking Trevor Lawrence,

28:41

but it is Can we accurately

28:44

judge what we've seen from Sam Donald

28:46

so far in his Jets career hasn't

28:48

been great, but the head coaching changes,

28:50

the offensive line, the skill position, nothing's

28:53

been very good. Do you think there's a team out there with the

28:55

look coach to buy low on

28:58

Sam Donald. I'm

29:00

sure there is. Um. I'm

29:03

a Sam Darnald fan, you know,

29:05

not living in New York, and I know the pressure

29:07

that's been on him, uh since

29:09

since he since he's got there. I

29:12

watched him at USC, I coached

29:14

his quarterback coach, I coached his head

29:16

coach both out there, and

29:18

I've talked extensively about him

29:20

prior to the draft and when

29:22

I evaluated him, and I did evaluate

29:25

him for some teams, I

29:27

thought he might be one of the best ones I see

29:29

he's ever put out that. And there's

29:31

a lot of quarterbacks coming out of that deal, so

29:34

I know that it has affected him. All

29:36

the uncertainty, the instability in the

29:38

front office, instability in

29:40

which players are playing every week. I

29:43

do think there is a lot of teams

29:46

out there that that feel like I do

29:48

about Sam Darnald. All right, and

29:50

I'm gonna ask you about yeah, about your website

29:53

and uh, to tell

29:55

everybody about about this website

29:57

and what they can get from it. U. Yeah,

30:01

it was you know, I was kind

30:03

of doing it basically

30:05

because Mouse is about Mouse Davis,

30:07

who was the originator of Tiger

30:09

Ellison back in the fifties,

30:12

and then Mouse turned the running shoot

30:14

into a pass offense, and we just never

30:16

We've talked to thousands of coaches. We've talked

30:18

to two people whenever

30:21

they wanted to talk, but the intricacies

30:23

of what we do is a

30:26

lot different, and so we wanted to

30:28

provide for the high school coaches and anybody that

30:30

wanted to learn passing offense

30:34

about the concepts and what we do. And so

30:36

we created the website and it's going

30:38

very well, and uh, we're gonna

30:40

We're gonna help a lot of a

30:42

lot of coaches. Great stuff. June

30:44

Jones from NFL coach Checkout is to

30:46

help my Patricia in Detroit. Stopped

30:50

killing the guy, Rob coach too dot

30:52

com. June Jones, congratulations

30:55

on the site and keep up to that work man. All

30:58

right, thank you guys. Aloha Aloha,

31:00

June Jones former hole. All

31:04

right, folks, we will come back here. He's Rob

31:07

31:37

Patrick Show, of course, leave it to me

31:39

to butcher soul for real. Last

31:42

segment, Oh, I thought

31:44

it was Tevin Campbell. Yeah, I know music, but

31:46

it's not my forte. Is that who it was?

31:48

Okay? Yeah, realm. No,

31:50

I don't know what year it was, but I'm telling you it was nineteen

31:52

nineties, back when music was popping. Over

31:55

fifty years ago. Two men with a

31:57

passion for motorsport and engineering

32:00

began building race engines in an old,

32:02

abandoned mill. They saw an opportunity

32:04

on every wide open road and an

32:06

invitation in every curve. It was a chance to

32:08

push the envelope and break all the rules.

32:11

It was a chance to prove that a two ton family

32:13

sedan could ever have the performance

32:16

to compete in a twenty four hour track

32:18

race. But the shocking competition

32:20

and building a reputation wasn't enough. Their

32:22

vision was to expand upon the excellence

32:24

they had created. This engineering company

32:26

continued to validate their

32:29

belief by putting race engines in luxury

32:31

sedans and proceeded to stun

32:33

the elite in world motor racing by

32:35

winning, and winning and winning. We

32:37

32:57

Final segment of the show here Rob

33:00

and I Jason McIntyre. Rob, it's so easy

33:02

when both of us do the

33:05

Dan Patrick Show. It just flies By. I mean, I

33:07

could probably do another hour with my eyes

33:09

closed. That's how easy it is, because

33:11

that's the way it's supposed to be. Though we love sports,

33:14

right, I mean, there's a lot of guys out there who host

33:16

national shows who don't like sports. They're

33:19

like against the NFL. I could talk NFL

33:21

for hours. I mean, heck, if you wanted to

33:23

do a three hour NBA show, I could do a three hour

33:25

NBA show. We like sports. And

33:27

then you know, I have a baseball podcast

33:30

called Inside the Parker. I could do

33:32

baseball all day as well. I could not do.

33:35

But I'm just saying I'm one

33:37

of those rare guys who have covered all of

33:39

these sports. Yeah, you know since nineteen

33:41

eighty six. The first World Series AURA

33:44

covered was nineteen eighty six in New

33:46

York met some red Sox. I covered the

33:49

NBA since nineteen eighty seven and

33:52

the NFL since nineteen eighty seven. You

33:54

know what I mean, So James, By the way, NBA

33:56

has shortened from eighty two to seventy

33:58

two games? Is Major

34:01

League Baseball gonna do anything to shorten

34:03

Are they gonna try one sixty two? Yeah?

34:05

I don't think they know they did it

34:07

this year, So I think they

34:10

set themselves up so that

34:12

they could have a regular season and you'll

34:14

have to see and not obviously, Jason. With a

34:16

vaccine and baseball season not starting

34:19

until April, you know you have some time.

34:21

So I think baseball is a good chance you'll

34:24

have people in the stands. Oh,

34:26

I don't know, Oh yeah, really,

34:29

Oh yeah, I think so with a

34:31

vaccine, if the vaccines are starting

34:33

to be rolled out in the next week or two,

34:35

you don't think by April you can get twenty

34:37

five percent capacity, not a full

34:40

house. But I believe they'll play

34:42

in their stadiums and there'll be some fans.

34:45

Interesting, So do you think we'll see

34:47

NBA fans because I mean some teams like the Warriors,

34:50

these with a lot of the venture capital. The

34:52

NBA's weird because they have a lot of young owners

34:54

who came into new money and they

34:57

are trying some interesting stuff. I've read

34:59

some stuff about the Golden State Warriors what their owners

35:01

are doing rob to try to

35:03

get fans in the stadium. With this rapid

35:05

testing, it sounds

35:07

like the NBA is gonna have some fans as well.

35:10

I don't know how many. Um and certainly

35:12

not in December, but you said it.

35:14

I mean there's money being lost

35:16

every day. I mean as much as

35:19

television pays the freight Jason ticket

35:22

sales and selling nine

35:24

dollars waters and thirteen

35:26

dollars French fries I'm serious,

35:29

is and seventy dollars parking

35:31

spots are big

35:34

business. That money's gone away.

35:36

I got a good buddy out here who has Lakers season tickets,

35:39

and you know he already said the Lakers

35:41

have hit him up and said there's a chance of fans this

35:44

year. And listen, you know how

35:46

stacked Lakers are. Lebron's about to go get another

35:48

chip stealing mantras Harold

35:50

from that toxic Clippers locker room. I

35:53

hope I was at the Lakers season opener last

35:55

year. Lakers Clippers. I

35:57

have a feeling they're gonna be one of the marquee games on Chris.

36:00

By the way, Rob, did you notice

36:02

this Christmas NFL and NBA?

36:05

How good is that? Can't wait?

36:08

Yeah? Yeah, it'll

36:10

be definitely uh interesting to

36:12

see the way it plays out. It was weird though,

36:14

at how bad the NBA ratings were

36:16

not really every other ratings were down too, but

36:20

they would way they were weighed down James

36:23

now the author of the lowest rated NBA

36:25

finals ever. I mean it's not his fault, no, but

36:27

I'm just saying he's also got the two greatest

36:29

finals in MVP history, coming

36:31

back from down three winning

36:34

the Bubble Finals. My point is

36:36

that with Lebron having a chance to

36:38

do something different than anybody has

36:40

ever done, which has win three championships with three

36:42

did for franchise, and I mean leading them to championships.

36:46

Uh, that people didn't tune in. I

36:48

was surprised. I mean, people didn't tune into

36:50

Tiger at the Masters. People. College football

36:52

ratings are in the tank. NHL was

36:54

awful. Yeah, I mean, but

36:58

go look, I'm just saying he's one of the all

37:00

time great players. I'm surprised

37:02

that people didn't want to peek in

37:04

at a at a piece of history. Well, it's

37:06

different from bigger talking about I

37:10

mean, yeah, but like the lowest rated ever,

37:13

I'm stunned by that. I mean, people are used to their

37:15

NBA in June, by the

37:17

way, how I mean between cord cutting

37:20

the election. Uh, listen,

37:22

I don't think it's a big deal that NBA ratings

37:24

were down at all. I think it's a bigger deal that

37:26

people want to talk about the NBA ratings but

37:28

want to ignore the NHL. I'm

37:30

not talking about that. The ratings

37:33

weren't down, but they weren't as big. They

37:35

weren't down as big as the NBA, and

37:37

people you were one of those people thought, oh,

37:40

you could put the NBA on in the summer

37:42

and forget baseball and people will watch

37:44

it. It didn't have How were the World Series

37:46

ratings? How bad? Were they down? Down? But

37:48

they weren't the lowest ever dogs. They

37:50

weren't the lowest ever. As my point, I

37:53

lowest ever? Yeah, I don't know if they

37:55

were the lowest ever. Were

37:57

the lowest ever? They were lower

38:00

then the Nets, New Jersey Nets and San

38:02

Antonio Spurs. Yeah,

38:04

that's all I'm saying. Jason saying

38:07

it's an indictment on Lebron or something. Oh

38:09

I said. I was surprised that people

38:11

didn't want to peep in

38:14

and watch him accomplish something.

38:17

There was something on the line. It wasn't just

38:19

another championship. This was

38:21

him doing something nobody else had done

38:23

in the league. That's what I'm saying, Jason. There

38:26

was more to it. You see what I mean. I'm

38:28

not talking about just a basic NBA

38:30

Finals game or final series.

38:32

This was history making and people didn't

38:34

tune in. It's weird people give baseball

38:37

a pass because they had the Tampa Bay Raising there

38:39

and nobody can't. They have one of the weakest fan bases in

38:41

baseball, but nobody's like, well wait

38:43

a sec uh, Who were

38:46

the Lakers playing the Miami Heat like they don't have a fan

38:48

base as soon as Lebron left? Come on, either

38:50

mean they don't have a fan base. They won championships

38:52

before Lebron even got to Miami with Dwayne

38:54

Wade. Yes, now you're gonna pooh pooh Miami

38:57

like they. I love the Miami Heat. I

38:59

mean I got a Miami Heat jersey. Go look at my Instagram.

39:01

I'm flosting that that Dwayne Wade Miami

39:03

Heat jersey. That's money, that light, that power

39:06

came away from my Jordans. Though. Man, I'm gonna

39:08

give you some respect for you sticking

39:10

up for Tom Brady, putting your mouth,

39:13

putting your money where your mouth is, and taking

39:15

on a bet where Patrick Mahomes and

39:17

the Chiefs. I I

39:19

gotta say, I don't love this bet not on

39:22

my side winning the game out right.

39:24

The Chiefs have lost how many games in the

39:26

last like twelve months. They

39:30

almost lost the game against the Raiders.

39:32

They almost lost that game. Almost doesn't

39:34

kill playing grenades or horseshoes.

39:36

I gotta agree, Jason, something don't seem

39:39

right because usually Rob only wants to bet

39:41

wings, he only wants to bet

39:43

food. Jordan's

39:45

he got the better side, the better quarterback,

39:47

and he's gonna hold this over my head where he's

39:50

gonna hold this over my head for months. I

39:52

beat you in that bet. Yeah, I took. I took an

39:54

underdog to be the best team with the best

39:56

quarterback with the best coach. Yeah,

39:59

but I Brady's the goat and he

40:01

and he can get them to the super Bowl. So you gotta

40:03

have some confidence, and you must then

40:05

coming off that loss. If they win

40:08

this game, that'll be a boost to Tom

40:10

Brady and a boost to the box. This is

40:12

a game they need to win to prove

40:14

the people that they're real, that

40:17

they are legitimate contenders

40:19

in the NFC. About this, if if I gave

40:21

you to win the super Bowl, you

40:23

could have Brady and Mahomes and I

40:25

get everyone else. Which side are you take it?

40:31

Brady? What? What? What? I get

40:33

Brady and Mahomes? You get

40:35

those two to win it? I get every other team?

40:37

Which side take I would? Yeah, I would take

40:39

that bet because because you think it's gonna be Mahomes

40:42

are Brady? Because I don't. No,

40:45

I don't, because I still think

40:47

the Saints are going to win the Super Bowl. That's that's

40:49

my Oh wait, you would take the other side, Well,

40:52

I picked the Saints. I mean if if if you're

40:54

asking me who do I things are gonna win, then

40:56

I would take the other side, because ultimately

40:59

I do. I'm gonna say I would do that

41:01

double or nothing after I lose the Bucks Chiefs

41:03

bet. But the problem, Rob is I don't need four

41:05

pairs of Jordan's get up

41:07

for the kids. You could get some some for them

41:09

to wear now and then we could get a bigger size,

41:12

or I'll wait and pay for him later on. Yeah,

41:14

okay, Gavin, how did I let

41:16

myself get Your wife is at

41:19

home. She's gonna go off on you. What are you

41:21

doing? Ben Jordan's with that

41:23

old Tom Brady? Are you crazy?

41:27

My weekly bets are significantly larger

41:29

than two hundred dollars. But

41:31

I'll say this, We're going to buy a Christmas tree today.

41:33

That's a fun after Thanksgiving exercise.

41:36

I'm sure everybody's doing that. Um,

41:38

you know, people go out in Black Friday. I don't know.

41:41

Are there any good deals out there? Rob, there are

41:43

deals. I don't know how much shop and I'm doing. You're

41:45

getting another Golden Girls cruise for no,

41:48

Well, there's not gonna be one until

41:50

I think twenty twenty two. Would you get on

41:53

a cruise ship in six months?

41:56

Not in six months, but next year? I

41:58

mean twenty two. Yeah, I would in

42:01

twenty two, not twenty one. I haven't been on a cruise

42:04

cruise. I went with the family when I was a kid to

42:06

like Bahamas. Well, you know, I went to Antarctica.

42:08

I was on a cruise in December of

42:10

last year. So I went to Antarctica.

42:13

That was an unbelievable cruise. And

42:15

then what animals

42:18

did you see an Antarctic? Oh? Just everything,

42:20

whales, sea lions. It was incredible.

42:22

I don't know that I need to leave the South Bay out here

42:24

in LA to see whales and sea lions. You need

42:26

you need to do, you know what, It's the most spectacular

42:29

trip. You can. I'm told, I'm told in

42:32

retirement, the wife and I are going to need stuff

42:35

to do um since the kids will be you know,

42:37

in kind I'm telling, yes, I'll

42:39

go on a cruise to Antarctica. Then you should

42:41

do it. It was fascinating. It completed

42:43

because now I've done all seven continents. It

42:45

completed my life. You've been on all seven

42:48

all seven continents? Yes, where'd

42:50

you go? In South America and

42:52

South America? I went all over Brazil.

42:56

I heard the women are kind of attractive

42:58

or something like that. Oh, yeah, I did all that.

43:00

I've been to Australia, New Zealand, you

43:03

know, Europe, everything I've been. Rob

43:06

Parker, Yeah, I'm impressed, dude, that's

43:09

impressive. All right, Rob, Hey, this was a fun

43:11

show. Filling in for Dan Patrick.

43:14

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving. What do you got?

43:17

What do you got this weekend? Anything? So? Yeah?

43:19

The odd couple tonight seven to ten. I'll

43:21

do a little shopping. Do you have any

43:23

dates this weekend? How is dating?

43:25

Your dating during a pandemic?

43:27

Not good? Are you on Tinder? No?

43:30

Are you on any I don't think I should be a guy. I

43:32

don't think I should be on ten. Are you on any

43:34

dating websites? Not at all? You could be honest,

43:37

not not at all. Oh wow, I've never

43:39

had a date through a dating website. Wow,

43:42

but you've got on a Golden girls cruise that priorities

43:44

people, golden. Thank

43:47

you for being all right, Rob, Hey, don't

43:49

let that gray hair for you. Are good stuff,

43:51

everybody here in the studio, Rob

43:53

Parker, Hey, guys, Dan Patrick's back on Monday.
