When Katerina Bryant was 24, she began experiencing an illness with no obvious cause.

To describe it, Bryant points to a quote by Hemingway, of his time on the battlefield, in which he felt 'my soul or something coming right out of my body, like you'd pull a silk handkerchief out of a pocket by one corner'.

And so she met with medical experts, took a number of tests and searched through history, looking for an explanation.
