VIDEO GAME NEWS:

*Black History Month*-Notable and memorable Black Video Game Characters-Black Characters in videogames are nothing new, but we wanted to take a moment to appreciate some of the most memorable black characters that have left an impression in our minds throughout the years in gaming.
-Sazh Katzroy (Final Fantasy XIII) Struggling to find his son, he’s lost so much but presses on and refuses to give up in this war torn and twisted world he finds himself in. One of the main characters in the story and serving as an excellent supporting cast member, Sazh will forever be in our memories.-Sheva Alomar (Resident Evil 5) Resident Evil is a scary franchise, but it would have been much more frightening without the assistance of Sheva alongside Chris Redfield in Resident Evil 5. African born, Sheva lost her parents at a young age and later joined the guerillas in effort to stop Umbrella from their devious desires to take over the world. With a quick mind and strong body, she assists and even saves Chris’s bacon on more than one occasion throughout the game.-Carl Johnson (CJ) (Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas) Before Grand Theft Auto V, we were familiar with San Andreas beforehand. With nods to movies like “Boyz N The Hood” CJ was confronted with the hardships and tough life of the streets. Moving to Liberty City to start a new life, CJ was brought back to San Andreas for the funeral of his mother, he’s soon pulled in by crooked cop Tenpenny (Samuel L Jackson) to do his bidding launching him into a tale of corruption and revenge that takes him all across the land of San Andreas. This also marks the first Grand Theft Auto with a black main playable character.-Barret Wallace (Final Fantasy VII) First appeared in Final Fantasy VII as a heavy-set, muscular man. His right arm was replaced with a gun-arm after losing it while fighting for his hometown. He is the leader of the eco-terrorist group, AVALANCHE. He helps in the fight against Shinra, to stop them from using Mako as a form of energy. He seems strong willed and benevolent in his cause, but some would say it is a cover for his personal vendetta and anger. He is a loud and violent man, but he has a good heart and finds himself torn between fighting and taking care of his daughter, Marlene. -Jax (Mortal Kombat) Making his first appearance in the celebrated fighting game series Mortal Kombat II, Jax served as one of the playable characters. His fatalities and special moves showed off his strength and he was one of the more buff and badass characters of the game. Later losing his arms in the series, only to be replaced with even more powerful robotic and steel arms, Jax continues to surface in the series again and again to remind us that even after a crippling and altering injury, you can still come back and smash skulls like melons again...and again.-Clementine (Telltale’s The Walking Dead) A mature, kind and polite girl who acts as the moral compass of the group. She is constantly trying to do what she feels is right and is at the same time, in everyone’s best interest. She constantly deals with losing people who are close to her, along with the struggles of living in an apocalyptic world. Starting off in the game she is young, scared and in need of constant help. The more she sees, the more she matures and the stronger she gets. She will do whatever it takes to stay alive. She has her own set of morals and values and uses those in making her own choices.
