When David Arms was young his father's absence and lack of involvement leaves him unsure of his manhood. As a father he decided to do something different with his sons. A new tradition is born, and lives are changed. We take a look into what we have lost from times gone by and what we might should reinstate from the eyes of a Father and Son.

"It's every father's responsibility to tell his son at the appropriate age: 'Son, I just want you to know I no longer consider you to be a boy, but in my eyes, I see you as a man now. And that if every father in this country did that for their sons, then this country and this world would be a much better place because boys would not need to prove their manhood to anybody else.'" – Steven Arms

Steven Arms is the co-author of the book Milestone to Manhood: A Father and Son's Journey to a Meaningful Rite of Passage. He is an advocate for meaningful rites of passage in modern Western culture, having experienced the positive impact of his own rite of passage as a 13-year-old boy. Stephen Arms was born and raised in California, and moved to Oregon to pursue a relationship with his future wife. A father of two, he was always interested in understanding how things work and pushing his body to its limits. We dive into rites of passage, which his father had organized for him when he was 13. This meaningful event gave Stephen confidence in his identity, and provided the trust and security needed to share his doubts and questions with his father when he was in college. Thanks to this rite of passage, Stephen was able to find his faith again and continue his path to becoming a virtuous, masculine man.

We look at and discuss how Rites of Passage could impact men for the better in modern society. Do rights of passage have a place in modern society?

In this episode, you will learn the following:

1. What is the importance of a rite of passage in modern Western culture?

2. What does it mean to be a man in a boy's life?

3. How can a rite of passage positively shape a boy's masculine identity and faith?

4. Is this something to consider with your sons or daughters?
