The Fantasy Authority Fantasy Football Podcast Ep. 97, August 17, 2017.
Kevin Steele (@fantasywrath13), Ben Cummins (@BenCumminsFF), Ryan Williams (@RyanAlexander_W) and Anthony Pinzone (@the1andonlypz) are joined by co-host of The Fantasy Footballers Mike “Hitman” Wright (@FFHitman) to talk draft strategy, Ezekiel Elliott, Buffalo Bills trade mania and must-have players to target.
New & Noteworthy
- Ezekiel Elliott was suspended for the first six games. He won’t be able to suit up until week 8 because the Cowboys are on bye week 7. He is currently appealing the suspension.
- Sammy Watkins traded to the Rams.
- The Bills acquire Jordan Matthews, a third round pick, and EJ Gaines.
- The Eagles acquire Ronald Darby.
Draft Strategy: Do’s and Don’ts
- DO Take note of your league settings. Preparing for a standard draft in a PPR league won’t help you any. Superflex, special scoring, etc.
- DO Research BEFORE the draft. It’s amazing how many people show up with a magazine completely unprepared. Even a little prep will put you ahead.
- DO Adjust your strategy on the fly. Anything that can happen, WILL happen.
- DON’T Overreact to a run on a position. Opportunity Cost – everyone grabbing QBs leaves more value at RB/WR etc. for you. Don’t fall in line unless you absolutely have to.
- DON’T Take a top 10 QB above his ADP. The position is incredibly deep, unless you’re getting a steal, wait on drafting a QB.
- DON’T Overdraft rookie’s in positions where rookie’s don’t typically excel.
- DON’T Be that guy: What are some examples of “that guy” every league has?
Draft Strategy: Strategy by Draft Position
In this segment, we look at what strategies each host would take when drafting from the first, sixth and twelfth draft positions. Below you’ll find real-life examples of who you could target based on current ADP’s for three different types of strategies.
