The LGBTQ+ population is three times more likely to engage in survival sex when compared to their cisgender and heterosexual peers, yet these cases go highly unreported. (Loyola University) We invited Melinda Sampson, Community Outreach Coordinator for NC Stop Human Trafficking to shine light on some the root causes as to why this population is disproportionately affected, and to discuss the need for a big picture shift to help support all marginalized populations. She also shares the importance of addressing demand and how showing "simple but not simple acts" of kindness and making human connections goes a long way in helping victims find the help that can change their life trajectory.
