LIVE EVENT TOMORROW: Cook Champorado With Us!

Join Us on Facebook Live or YouTube Live Saturday July 24th, 2021 10 AM (PDT) / 1 PM (EDT)

Clarice & Isabelle Aguilera from @thetagalogproject, featured on EO15 of TFAW Project, will be showing us how to make the famous Filipino breakfast dessert, CHAMPORADO (chocolate rice), while we chat about how food shapes our relationships as Filipinx.

This is a family-style event!

Screenshot the recipe below to prepare your ingredients & join us for this LIVE cooking lesson & tsismisan 🤗 (These ingredients are typically found in any Filipino pantry, but can also be simplified):

  • Malagkit Rice (short grain sticky rice) or jasmine rice
  • Chocolate tablea or any baking chocolate
  • Sugar
  • Salt
  • Water
  • Condensed milk for topping (optional, if desired)

This is one of Isabelle’s favorite breakfasts. It's easy to make & very traditional; one of those comfort foods you can return to from when you were growing up. Our cooking lesson will be accompanied by a discussion on our relationship with food as Filipinx, & how it's shaped by our culture.

As women, this can be a loaded topic. Food is tied to memories. The smells, culinary sounds, and tastes bring you back to nostalgic feelings, places, and/or times from your childhood & beyond. More specifically, food plays an important factor in how we shape relationships with the women around us - i.e. our moms, sisters, grandmas, titas, and cousins.

In true Aguilera tradition, we'll serve our champorado on a plate instead of a bowl, so it cools faster. This is how Clarice's grandma served it for the kids, and instructed them to eat along the sides since the edges cool faster, to avoid burning the tongue!

We're excited to see you there!
