This week at The Film Club we’re talking about one of the greatest Hollywood epics and films of all time, Lawrence of Arabia! The film tells the story of T.E. Lawrence a British Army Lieutenant during the First World War. While serving in Cairo Lawrence gains the opportunity to go to Arabia to assess the prospects of Prince Faisal and his revolt against the Turks. Lawrence is chosen for this mission because of his knowledge of the land and the culture. While Lawrence is getting to know Prince Faisal and his troops, Colonel Brighton who has been working with the Prince tries to convince him to retreat from battle after surviving a massive defeat. Lawrence however contradicts the Colonel and suggests a surprise attack which fortunately pays off gaining an important port town that the British can arrive in to bring supplies. This win gains Lawrence the respect of Prince Faisal and his men and begins an arduous journey through the desert with many battles on the horizon.
