Christopher Nolan’s The Prestige is not just a film about magic, but a magic trick itself. It’s the kind of movie experience that reminds you of why you love cinema. That is: A good story well told. But for a film like this no ordinary beer could do, nothing short of magic could possible suffice. But how does one simply conjure up the perfect pairing? My friends, we were truly lost. Then, against all hope, into our moment of need came a rumor, like the last whisper of a hanged man. Abracadabra… and Softly Spoken Magic Spells from the brilliant Beersmiths at Singlecut appeared, and the show was saved.

BREWERY: Singlecut Beersmiths

BEER: Softly Spoken Magic Spells

Style: Double IPA

ABV: 8.6%

IBU: 130

Softly Spoken Magic Spells from Singlecut Beersmiths is a juicy, mildly hoppy, glowingly gold and delicious double IPA. The creamy mouth feel and juicy flavor make Softly Spoken a nicely balanced beer and at 8.6% it certainly works its magic quickly.

Called by many the “Don Draper of craft beer” Rich Buceta, founder and brewmaster at Singlecut Beersmiths, is living the dream. He traded in the hard-edged world of Manhattan advertising for the deeply personal and artisan life of a craft beer brewer. It’s obvious however that Buceta did not forget the lessons of Madison Avenue. Expertly branded, cleverly marketed and lovingly crafted are three reasons why Singelcut is fast becoming one of our favorite breweries.

FILM: The Prestige

DIRECTOR – Christopher Nolan

STUDIO – Warner Bros.

BUDGET – 40 Million

IMDB

The line between filmmaker and magician has always been blurry. From the early silent film mastery of Georges Melies to the show-stopping bravura of Orson Welles, magicians have made great directors. Christopher Nolan may never have performed magic tricks on a stage for a living like those other men, but behind the camera, he is no less a magician than they were. The Prestige is a film that tells you repeatedly, what is happening and what is going to happen in the end. And yet, when the curtain falls you are left, without fail, in utter astonishment.
