Welcome back to the Wildly Native Podcast

0:21

. This is Liza , and

0:24

Lizzie and Amber sitting

0:26

here . I always feel like coming to you live

0:28

.

0:31

I never know . I wear a newscast or something .

0:33

I know Seriously , oh my god , people

0:35

want to listen to my voice . Oh , and they're

0:37

not forced to , they

0:40

willingly chose to . I

0:43

think one of the questions that we get

0:45

asked the most is

0:48

what do you guys do Like

0:50

? How do you do it ?

0:52

Right and most

0:55

of the time a lot of people ask well , do you do

0:57

this , do you do that ? Well

0:59

, how do you grow this , how do you grow that ? We

1:03

kind of put two things together . We're a

1:05

flower farm and a florist . Some

1:08

people mostly just see our fields

1:10

on Instagram and think that we only grow , and

1:13

a lot of people sometimes only see that we

1:15

do weddings and that we're just a florist , and

1:17

then it's and then they'll call and be like hey

1:19

, I want to order an arrangement , Can you do that ?

1:21

And it's like , yes , we function

1:23

as a florist , but we just

1:25

we use our flowers .

1:28

Yeah , I mean , and our barn is in

1:30

the back in the corner with little

1:33

baby signage and

1:35

we're working our way up so that we can have

1:37

something out in the front up against

1:39

the road some day . But

1:41

that's down the road and it's a plan and

1:43

it's a goal , but for right now

1:46

we work in both of our worlds

1:48

. I mean , we cut in the morning Sometimes it

1:50

is 6am because it's

1:52

hot and we need to cut our stuff

1:54

.

1:55

And then there's some days where I'm out there at 4:30

1:57

. Yeah , or we've got to get it done

1:59

, or we have .

2:00

We know it's going to be super hot or there's a storm coming

2:02

, or yeah or sometimes we'll cut in the rain

2:04

, and we've posted some of that on Instagram as

2:06

well . We've been so down

2:08

to our underwear and can't sit on the

2:10

gator seat because you'll have

2:12

water up in places where it shouldn't be

2:16

. Like it's just , it's part

2:18

of it . I mean , it makes the day fun , but you just

2:20

get really , really , really , really cold

2:22

when you come back into the flower barn and it's

2:24

like 60 something degrees and you're soaking wet

2:26

, yeah , and that's usually

2:28

when we start to trade clothing . But as long

2:30

as it's dry .

2:31

All the things behind the scenes

2:33

.

2:34

I've like . I've also cut in the evening

2:36

underneath of a sprinkler .

2:40

There's been times where , yeah , I

2:42

will say that . Cutting in the dark , though , does

2:45

not happen , because if you put on a

2:47

headlamp at night , every moth

2:49

, bug , nat thing

2:51

, flying thing , pink , pink , pink , pink

2:53

, pink all in the head , not a fan . Yeah

2:55

not , oh , and I don't want any of those hornets at

2:58

me .

2:58

No , no . For some reason , the

3:00

bees have been awful for us this year

3:02

, like

3:05

nests everywhere , every

3:07

single person has gotten stung .

3:09

And let me clarify we're not talking about

3:11

honeybees . They are our friend bumblebees

3:13

. Great honeybee hives on

3:15

the farm . Yeah like not a problem

3:18

. We're talking about the little asshole

3:20

bugs . We're talking about the wasps

3:22

and the hornets . Yeah and man

3:25

, the wasps will light you up and they just like

3:27

they're . They're in your face .

3:29

I just not a fan , this is

3:31

when you just stand really still

3:33

and let them check you out , so that

3:35

if you run they won't come get you .

3:38

I hold my breath because I don't

3:40

want them to run after my CO2

3:42

.

3:42

Yeah , yeah , that

3:44

would not be okay . But

3:47

today we just kind of

3:49

wanted to explain that

3:51

part of what we have to not

3:54

go through , but what we do throughout

3:56

the day and what some of the girls have to deal with , and

3:58

then what it's like in the

4:00

flower barn and how there's mounds and mounds

4:02

and mounds of greens on the floor from cutting

4:04

and stripping flowers and all

4:06

those things , and we've learned wet shoes are really

4:09

slippery on wet greens . Yeah , and what

4:11

happens if you step on a really thick

4:13

stem and how far you can slide across the floor

4:15

with it ? It's happened a few

4:17

times where my heart has definitely dropped

4:19

and I thought I was going to fall over , and it's

4:22

not fun at all

4:24

.

4:24

Not pretty , not not pretty

4:27

. So we function as farmers

4:29

, but also as florists . How do we

4:31

switch gears from one to the next

4:34

?

4:34

Well , it depends on if our hair is on fire that day or not

4:36

. Really

4:40

, to clarify that we

4:42

have different divisions , I mean , we all function

4:44

together and I feel like a common

4:46

misconception is oh , you know , mother and daughter

4:49

, they must be nice to work together , yeah it's so

4:51

wonderful .

4:51

I get that comment all the time . Oh my

4:53

God , you work with your mom . That's so amazing

4:56

, like yeah , for like 20 minutes in the morning , like

4:59

I don't get me wrong , I see my mom

5:01

every day . I work with mom every day , but

5:03

we're not standing next to each other building

5:06

things . She's out in the field

5:08

or with a meeting or on

5:11

a phone call or something

5:13

and writing a contract or whatever

5:15

or in the house focusing on financial

5:18

things , because it's quiet and it's a good headspace

5:20

, or I'm over here in

5:22

the flower barn , or I'm in the house

5:24

working on website stuff , or I'm

5:27

in the field cutting sometimes , or I get up early

5:29

and come cut before everybody gets

5:31

here and then that way I'm able to be

5:33

in the barn even earlier because we have that extra

5:36

bucket or two that I was able to throw in there

5:38

real quick . There

5:40

are some days where I just look at mom at like 10 o'clock

5:42

at night and like so how was your day

5:45

? This was great . Or

5:47

if we have like a problem

5:49

at work , because not everybody's perfect . We're

5:51

in a workspace , we're human . Everybody

5:54

has their own problems , everybody has their own

5:56

outside life from all of this , and

5:59

we're lucky in a sense because

6:01

we're a family business and we can talk freely with

6:03

a lot of our people . Our employees

6:05

are like our family . If you don't fit

6:08

, it's very clear

6:11

.

6:12

But I mean it is family

6:14

. You know , my mom and dad

6:16

or dad , whatever , will come

6:18

in sometimes . Sometimes they just want to

6:21

come in and be like wow that's really cool

6:23

and other times they just

6:25

want to come in because they need something , or mom wants

6:27

to . She's like wow , I saw this really cool

6:29

article . So and she

6:31

walks in in the morning , walks in

6:33

circles up and down the lane and all of that

6:36

kind of stuff . So we see her some here and there

6:38

, but it's , it's

6:40

, I don't know , it's

6:42

part of it yeah , it's part of it .

6:44

Like I see Nicole more than I see mom . Like it's

6:47

just and it's because we have two different

6:49

divisions that makes it work . Yeah

6:52

, and mama honestly gives me like

6:54

my, our space to kind

6:56

of go with the design

6:59

side and do our thing and just

7:02

kind of go from there .

7:03

Well , and that's why I love you know you have

7:05

ideas , nicole has ideas , and

7:08

I'm just kind of like great , make it pretty , because

7:10

that's that's not my strength , like

7:12

Thursdays where your guys are like oh

7:15

, can you put together ? I'm like you want

7:17

me to arrange ? Okay

7:20

, and I just stand back and go , somebody

7:22

will fix that .

7:24

And then we'll come behind mom and just put another

7:26

one or two things , yeah she quietly , very

7:28

gently , just oh , we can put this here , I'm

7:31

like thank

7:33

you .

7:33

It's like learning how to arrange for the

7:35

first time . Don't get offended . Lizzie's going to fix

7:37

it , but you'll learn yeah .

7:39

Yeah , and you know we're all still

7:41

learning and you know there's

7:44

definitely brides that we work with who

7:46

have specific visions or specific

7:49

things that they want or don't want , and

7:51

there's lots of different

7:53

things that impact

7:55

what they're looking for . So , if

7:57

they want foam , free . So

7:59

when I say foam , I'm talking about Oasis

8:02

. Oasis , you know , it doesn't break down . It's not

8:04

always good for the environment which it

8:06

does break down .

8:07

By the way it does break down

8:09

, don't feel bad . If you're using foam . It's very slowly

8:11

breaks down . It's not like it's going to be 10 days and it's

8:13

going to be gone , but it breaks down

8:15

.

8:15

It gets a little dusty here and there , but it is

8:17

a lot of fun to squish , but

8:22

I have to mentally prepare like

8:24

, okay , I'm working with foam , I can't stick my fingers in

8:26

it because it's very tactile . Yeah

8:28

, it is , it's a good one . But

8:30

so if somebody doesn't want

8:32

to use that and we

8:34

need to structure an arrangement , how

8:36

do we do that ? Would we do ? That's different . And

8:39

if somebody wants clear glass where you can see

8:41

all the mechanics , how are we going

8:43

to still have structures so that it functions

8:45

?

8:47

Lots of moss , lots of lots

8:49

of water down my armpits , holding up

8:52

the arch pieces while while they're getting put

8:54

in place . A lot of funky vases

8:56

, honestly , with weird lips to hold

8:58

in things and tape . A

9:01

lot of tape and

9:03

chicken wire .

9:04

Oh my god , Chicken wire

9:06

. That's always . I'm like I'll cut the chicken wire because

9:08

I know I can do that . Give me that

9:11

task .

9:11

I can do that . That is a saving grace , though Chicken

9:14

wire is amazing and we're

9:16

learning too . Like our floral , our floral

9:19

, like our floating arches and things

9:21

like that . We've

9:23

got new bases that we were

9:25

able to get and we're trying to figure out

9:27

what works for it , because we used to sit on TikTok

9:29

, just like you guys , and we'd see

9:31

, oh my gosh , look at that other florist , I didn't know that

9:33

you could do it like that . And then we try it and we're

9:35

like I don't know how I feel about that .

9:37

I'll be honest . I had a whole conversation

9:40

today . I know you guys weren't in here , but

9:42

I struggle sometimes

9:45

. So I do a lot of the phone

9:47

calls . I do a lot of the honey book . I do a lot of the

9:49

honey book is what we use actually

9:51

for our contracts with our brides

9:54

and all of that kind of stuff . It's

9:56

the mechanism in the system that keeps everything organized

9:58

and

10:01

people will send me their Pinterest , which is fantastic

10:03

Lots of ideas , lots of color

10:05

, lots of it just helps us understand

10:07

the feel .

10:08

Sometimes there's lots of colors .

10:10

Yeah , sometimes there's green and white and we're

10:12

not going to hate on the green and white .

10:14

We're a wildflower farm . We

10:16

like our color here we're biased .

10:18

We might be a little biased , but

10:22

people will send inspiration

10:25

from and listen

10:27

. Not everybody knows flowers , so

10:29

I totally understand . But

10:32

they'll send an inspiration from a styled

10:34

shoot , and the styled shoot is

10:36

using flowers that aren't realistic

10:39

for the season Not

10:41

only for the season but for , like , holding up . I

10:44

would never give a bride a bouquet of

10:46

cosmos . They're not going to hold up

10:48

, they're going to get willty and they're going to get nasty

10:50

. So okay , so

10:53

you have a styled shoot . It's short , it's quick , you

10:55

can use whatever you want because it's not going to matter , because it doesn't

10:57

have to be hearty .

10:58

Yeah , it doesn't have to last Exactly

11:00

, and a lot of times we can find that replacement

11:03

thing and get the same feel

11:05

Sometimes .

11:06

But the biggest thing that now

11:09

is starting to rumble , that we're starting

11:11

to hear about and see , is AI

11:13

generated weddings .

11:15

Which is honestly terrifying .

11:17

Like how am I supposed to do that

11:19

?

11:19

How are you supposed to have . So

11:22

you know in like TikTok how you see if

11:24

there was like a Peter Pan inspired

11:26

resort or something , because it was AI generated

11:29

or whatever . And

11:31

someone has that with a bride

11:34

and a wedding and they've got their venue and

11:36

that's great because it's like your vision

11:38

through Pinterest times 10 . And

11:40

this is the town's post . People are crack , which is

11:42

awesome , and props

11:44

to people who have time to be able to put all that

11:46

together . No , I don't know how it works . I don't know if

11:49

you just type it in and it goes through or whatever it may

11:51

be , but it's

11:53

a little . It's not realistic . Yeah , it's a little

11:55

unrealistic .

11:56

Who has that budget ?

11:59

Disney , Disney

12:01

does A lot of people

12:03

. You know we work with brides

12:06

that go from DIY to

12:08

elopements to crazy

12:10

bay installs to wanting

12:13

to do half and half Like we don't have

12:15

. Like this year starting budget of you

12:17

have 100 guests , this is $3,000

12:20

.

12:20

Like no , that's not . I don't have a minimum

12:22

because I don't think it's fair . And is

12:24

that ?

12:25

No one has a minimum for us , because that's

12:27

pointless If you have a date and

12:29

you want to pay for what we charge for

12:31

. You have our time and our space

12:33

. Like we don't and don't get me wrong

12:35

, we love our big wedding installs , but you

12:38

know , sometimes it's nice to get to know the bride

12:40

personally and to be like , oh hey , you know

12:42

, this is your bouquet from

12:46

like six months ago , when you came out and you chose

12:48

your colors and you did this and you did that and

12:50

you actually like handed to them and

12:52

you have a connection and you understand , like whoever

12:55

maybe or their ? parents . If you know their parents

12:57

like , oh my God , hi , let's see , it's so nice

12:59

to see you again . I love it . Blah , blah , blah . We

13:02

just had that this past weekend and we were down in , um

13:05

uh , Ken Island resort and it

13:08

was with Miss Maddie and

13:10

Naomi , the planner down there . Absolutely

13:12

love them , um , but their personal

13:15

yeah . And we worked with

13:17

them and Maddie came in and picked out

13:19

her flowers and but what she understood

13:21

and she was an interior designer , so what

13:23

she understood is you know , she

13:26

came , I think

13:28

, in May , and I'm going

13:30

to pause you for one second , right there .

13:32

Keep your track , but that's what sets

13:34

us apart from a regular florist . You

13:36

can come and you can walk the field

13:38

close to your season and see

13:40

what is actually in bloom in your

13:42

color palette yeah .

13:44

And we've had brides that have came in and said , oh no

13:46

, I don't want this anymore , I like that , yeah , and

13:48

have one either completely changed their

13:51

color scheme to an extent

13:53

or realized

13:55

that they didn't like the color purple and I don't want

13:57

purple anymore . Like like it can be anything

14:00

, but with Maddie we

14:02

had a vase that we gave to her and

14:04

people always ask us oh my gosh , what kind

14:06

of water do you use in your flowers

14:09

? What kind of preservative am I from

14:11

?

14:11

the well outside that I drink from .

14:13

Like we don't use vodka

14:15

or pennies or salt or sugar or

14:18

anything . It's literally just while

14:20

water . So they last really well . But when

14:22

she left , she said that they lasted a really

14:24

long time and she was so happy . And when

14:26

we walked in on Saturday with Sammi

14:29

and I , she was sitting in the chair getting her makeup done

14:31

and she was oh my God , it's so good to see you

14:33

, and all the girls are . Oh , the flowers

14:35

are here . Oh my God , like

14:37

it's just like it's like a short

14:39

two minutes of the

14:42

flowers are here . Oh my God

14:44

, like that moment .

14:45

That's reality .

14:47

Yeah , like that moment is what I live for

14:49

honestly , cause I'm like , oh my God , thank God .

14:53

We love a good vibe yeah .

14:55

And it just makes the day so much better , like

14:57

when we've had a couple of times when we walked

14:59

into a suite or

15:02

a room or hotel room or

15:04

whatever it may be , and it's silent

15:07

, there's no music , there's

15:09

no laughter oh my God , they stressed me out . That's

15:11

terrifying . That is terrifying Cause they're

15:13

like oh yeah , they look great . Or

15:16

there's like one bridesmaid downstairs putting

15:18

in her earrings and everybody else's like shoes

15:21

are all on the floor , but there's nobody in the house . Right

15:23

, it's kind of creepy

15:25

, cause it should be like an exciting day , so

15:27

clearly in our heads we try to get the

15:29

info and like the drama cause

15:31

we want to know , like , what happened . We're

15:34

like you know , cause there's always again life happens

15:36

. We're we're a customer

15:38

service , Like we provide the people . So

15:41

I always get really excited cause

15:44

I want to know like , oh my God , what happened ? I'm not

15:46

like nosy about or anything . We

15:48

go and we do our job and like kind of like

15:50

bugs life, we come we eat, we leave , but

15:53

it's , but it's a different vibe

15:55

and a different feel when you walk in and the

15:57

caterers are already stressed out or , like we said , or

16:01

the mom is stressed out because somebody isn't

16:03

there on time in the way that they had .

16:05

Or there's no music playing , or like

16:07

somebody struck , stuck in traffic on

16:09

the bridge , or like , yeah , like there's all of these things .

16:12

And on Saturday that again with Maddie

16:14

, we had um

16:16

, uh , 20

16:19

minutes in traffic that we had because there was an accident

16:21

on the Bay Bridge . I was about to lose

16:23

my mind because it said 1 30 or 1 o'clock

16:25

to 1 30 and our GPS said

16:27

1 like 42 . I called

16:30

Sammie and I was like this is not happening . I said

16:32

get on the back road . So they got on the back

16:34

road and we screwed around and we made it there and we were fine and

16:36

and Naomi was just doing her thing , they were

16:38

all happy we got there when we got there and we were safe

16:40

.

16:42

But I'm always like , like I'm

16:44

always trying to calculate Okay , if that happens , we

16:46

have this back up , and this happens , we have that

16:48

back up , and how do we fix this

16:51

or it ? You know , there's been a couple

16:53

times where people have used an

16:55

arch or have built their own arch and

16:57

they haven't anticipated , you

17:00

know , the weight , yeah , the

17:02

weight of the flowers . The wind , oh

17:04

my god , wind , yeah .

17:10

Yeah , you tell that story , oh my god

17:12

. So Again , we're people

17:14

and I'm allowed to be frustrated with my mother

17:16

because it's a family business . So

17:19

now that we're sitting and talking , it's just gonna happen

17:21

. Like in a normal conversation , there's always a story with

17:23

everything . So

17:25

we had a wedding in Chestert own , Maryland

17:28

, where the river packet picks up people and

17:30

brings you across and you have dinner and

17:32

it's magical and beautiful and beautiful

17:35

, beautiful .

17:35

They have a horn and Boys come off

17:37

on their golf cart .

17:38

It's just yeah , it's really funny

17:40

. But we had

17:42

Another event there

17:44

, another wedding and like one other thing

17:46

there before , and I don't know if it's through Washington College , I

17:48

don't know if it's through something else , but we've

17:51

been there multiple times and it's . People

17:53

are always nice . We know everything in the house . The

17:55

house is like lived in very clearly

17:57

lived in .

17:58

That's their house .

17:58

Okay , but I just , I could never figure

18:01

out , like how that work . Yeah , like how

18:03

they have like random events there because

18:05

the river packet , people walk up like it's like their house

18:07

, which is fine . But I just I'd

18:09

love to know , like , who's the the

18:11

putt , like the puppet master ?

18:15

Little good old Eastern Shore . Everybody's welcome . The doors always

18:17

open , yeah .

19:32

And they . I don't know if they still have them , but they had this Boston

19:34

Terrier that I swear was the biggest Boston

19:36

Terrier I've ever seen in my life . He was like

19:38

up to my knees he was . He

19:40

was older , don't get me wrong , but he I

19:42

didn't think he was real because he was so big .

19:45

Because we have two Bostons and they're tiny

19:47

.

19:47

I guess he was like a normal size . I don't know , because

19:50

we have rescues , but totally

19:52

off-subject . But either way , we

19:54

had a wedding there on . Oh

19:57

, don't tell the date it was

19:59

, it was a couple weekends ago , yeah , um , it

20:01

was a beautiful day it was . It was like a lucky

20:03

day because it was supposed to be so Hot

20:06

, and it's one of those days like when we first

20:08

walk out of our houses on a Sunday morning

20:10

or Saturday morning , it's like this is gonna

20:12

be a hot day or like oh it's

20:14

not that bad . Like it's , you get a little Breeze

20:17

, yeah , breeze . Well , a little bit

20:19

of breeze on land and a little bit of breeze

20:21

up against the water is a little

20:23

bit different . So

20:25

we had this one and thank

20:27

God for the planner , because it was just me , cynthia

20:29

and the planner and we've

20:32

known her for a while . And

20:34

on Friday mom and one of the

20:36

other girls , delaney

20:39

, had , went and set up the hopa . And

20:41

again life happens people get Side

20:44

tracked and forget things , and it is what it

20:46

is . But sent the and

20:48

I had to set up Frogs

20:50

, which are are like the little dishes with the little

20:52

clear , spiky things in the center , and we put

20:54

them on with putty .

20:55

It's like I'm just a brother called frogs . I've never

20:57

been poked by a frog , I don't know , but

20:59

it's a floral term .

21:03

But they're like cat bowls . They're really super shallow

21:05

cat bowls and they have these little spiky things in the center

21:07

that you stick them in . They've got suction cups and

21:10

you have like Five

21:12

to like seven stems poking out

21:14

, depending on how big the frog is , how

21:16

tall you want it all right and air and feel . Yeah

21:19

, they're really pretty in the wind , as long as they stand

21:21

upright , because

21:23

we always have breeze , not in the wind . They

21:25

stand up in the breeze but not the wind . So

21:28

the , the tent was all

21:30

set up , planner was going around setting up the

21:32

, the , the

21:34

table runners and the napkins and folding

21:37

things and all that was going on . So she's running

21:39

around being sure that stuff is straight . And then

21:41

senty and I had put the

21:43

fabric over the Hupa and I walked up to

21:46

it at first , before we had touched on anything

21:48

, we had just unloaded all of our cars . I

21:51

was looking at the Hupa because you know , you've got your four legs , you've

21:53

got your frame on the top . And I looked

21:55

and I've known , I knew that we had worked

21:57

on the Hupa before and I was like I really feel

21:59

like we're missing something . I was like , just , it

22:02

looks a little janky , I

22:05

couldn't figure it out and I haven't

22:07

set it up enough to be like , oh yeah , we need this

22:10

and this and this and this and this and I just I didn't

22:12

even think about it . So

22:15

Meanwhile

22:17

I'm in Britlin . Yes so she's like right

22:19

up the road . Thank God she's right up the road and not like in

22:21

PA or something , because I don't know what we would have

22:23

done . Literally

22:25

, cindy and I finished everything

22:28

bouquet boot

22:30

, near like Dropped

22:33

off , put away . Planner knows , sweet

22:35

heart table , whatever it was , votives

22:38

, all of it , frogs , everything . She

22:40

had like Like 15

22:42

niche tables , but that was like

22:44

them all like put together . So it's

22:46

like one long one , like a couple

22:49

long ones , but individually like 15 Water

22:53

Stams on the ground , like

22:55

we picked up everything and we're standing

22:57

there and thank God it was before everybody showed up . If

23:00

you still just the three of us , if you know

23:02

Cynthia and if you you

23:05

can hear her To

23:09

this I was

23:11

gonna have . So

23:14

we're standing there and the

23:16

wind blows just a little

23:18

bit extra , so the way that's , that's in the night I had

23:20

set it up , so it was again . The

23:22

breeze was a little bit strong . We

23:24

don't water explain what I hope it is . It's

23:27

it's for Jewish cultures , it's

23:29

for it's what they get married under

23:31

and they do the plates . And

23:33

they don't always do the plates , but still it's like a , it's

23:35

like a box , yeah it's like a extended

23:38

much .

23:39

Yeah , it's not like a regular arch , it's

23:41

like it's not two-dimensional , it's three

23:43

, yeah , and it's like 10 feet by

23:46

10 , feet by 10 , Like it's just a lot of feet

23:48

.

23:48

Yeah , and you've got fabric

23:50

that goes over town . So because it was

23:52

windy , the fabric was blowing into

23:54

the center of the , the hoppa

23:56

, where you could see it . So Cynthia

23:58

and I wired it together , which

24:01

probably but

24:04

we didn't have any other toys other than like wrapping

24:06

it around , and we didn't want it to look like an arch

24:08

because it was supposed to be a hoppa . So

24:11

Cynthia and I kind of created

24:13

like a Like

24:15

a sale in a way . So

24:18

the one side was fine , but the other because it was

24:20

blocked by the other side . So the other

24:22

side was pulling pretty hard and we're standing

24:24

there literally about to put it up into my car , because

24:27

she was just gonna go home and I was just gonna come back

24:29

to the barn and the

24:31

whole thing fell over .

24:32

I didn't just fall over , it blew over

24:34

.

24:35

Yeah , it blew over it like cracked , there

24:37

was like a pinch in the wood

24:39

, like it was . It

24:42

was stressful , to say the least , and hearing it , you

24:44

just kind of like watched it happen and the

24:47

planner just kind of takes off and I'm just kind of

24:49

like , oh no , oh

24:52

no . And then I looked and

24:54

since you and I are standing there , we get it back up . We're trying

24:56

to figure out how to put it up . Call

24:58

mom , she comes .

25:00

She's like why don't we get the drill ? She's like mom

25:02

, I was like yes , meanwhile

25:05

it's like you know 900

25:07

things we're finishing up . We got this , the

25:09

planer see the caterers there , like all the stuff

25:11

we're finishing up where we letting set up is crazy

25:13

if you've ever been a part of it .

25:15

It's insane .

25:15

I think we should talk about that next time and we

25:18

should totally talk about like the ins and outs

25:20

and like some of the different things . But anyway

25:22

, she's like are you almost

25:24

finished ? And I could hear , like the stress

25:26

and anxiety and her voiceless looks , what's

25:29

wrong . She's like the hubba fell over

25:32

, like oh

25:34

. So I quick

25:37

ran over , took a look at everything

25:39

, told them don't move , just hold

25:41

it back up , because now the whole thing's going . Yeah

25:43

, yeah , yeah .

25:47

Oh my .

25:47

God . So

25:50

I quick run home and then she texts

25:52

me . She's like you forgot the feet .

25:54

Well , I looked back at our Instagram because we did

25:56

an arch on the same thing

25:58

for Hupa last year and

26:00

I remember doing it with Nicole because it was a full

26:03

piece , top to bottom , front

26:05

, up the eight , across the

26:07

10 and down the other eight and it was

26:09

. It was massive . I

26:12

was like I remember it being a lot sturdier

26:14

than this was . And I looked in

26:16

the Instagram picture and in the corner I looked at Cynthia

26:19

and I was like there was feet . There's supposed

26:21

to be feet on the Hupa . It's

26:23

not supposed to fall over . I

26:25

was so angry and

26:27

I had to leave at like two

26:30

thirty or like three thirty to go

26:32

get ready for something , because you're allowed

26:34

to personally , yeah . So

26:37

I was like because I was like oh yeah , it's like two , fifteen , we're

26:39

good , and then the whole thing falls over

26:41

. I was like oh

26:43

no .

26:44

So those of you who don't know it personally

26:47

Lizzy . Um , lizzy's

26:49

a little shorter than I am .

26:50

Yeah , I'm like five , one and three quarters .

26:56

I'm like don't get the three quarters on your license

26:58

, liz True .

26:59

So I'm technically five , one in a way .

27:01

She's a little smaller . Five one , I'm

27:03

like five two ten feet tall or nine feet tall

27:06

or whatever feet tall it was , and

27:08

Cynthia is not that much taller than me , no , so

27:10

I have like the two little people I

27:12

was like yeah you grabbed those

27:15

two poles and I stretched

27:18

way up and the feet aren't like light , so

27:20

it's not like you can just forget them .

27:21

I was like how do

27:23

you forget ?

27:24

the feet . We did not

27:27

have a process and a procedure for

27:29

using them correctly . They were

27:31

stored at the other end and

27:33

I forgot them . I just forgot them .

27:35

That's all there is to it . Yeah , but

27:37

you can look at that and be like , wow , that looks kind of janky

27:39

at one point . I totally was I totally was .

27:41

I was like I wonder how this stayed up so well

27:43

, I was like well , it

27:46

was inside .

27:46

Last time it was , it was inside , it was inside the tent

27:48

last time .

27:49

Ugh .

27:52

So I stretched all

27:54

the way up Grab the crossbar

27:56

. I was like we're going to turn this because

27:58

the one piece was cracked so I threw a whole

28:00

bunch of screws in there , and now it's supposed

28:02

to be front . So we spun the

28:05

whole thing very slowly , that's what

28:07

you did by my tippy , tippy

28:09

fingers , and then we spun

28:11

the whole thing and then we would carefully

28:14

, because you could still hear the wood , like doing that creaking

28:16

.

28:16

Yeah , and by that time everybody else showed up . It's

28:18

like the catering , the bartender , the DJ , the everyone

28:21

. It didn't look bad , it looked like we were doing it . It

28:23

looked bad when you have two people standing

28:25

in lime green shirts up

28:28

against two wooden poles and

28:30

it's falling and you've got

28:32

you leaving and me coming back . I was like thank

28:34

god we're not at Britland . I would have

28:36

sobbed if we were at Britland

28:38

.

28:39

We were fine . It was fine . We

28:41

spun it , we put the feet on , we

28:43

put the used sandbags to hold

28:45

it down . I put extra screws

28:47

in . Honestly , the crack

28:49

is it's not bad . It's

28:53

just because of the way it fell and it split

28:55

that one bolt because it's what an inch

28:57

above . Yeah , it's more superficial

28:59

than anything . Yeah , oh yeah , and

29:03

everything was fine and it

29:05

was beautiful and everything was finished like three

29:07

minutes before people

29:10

started to show up and it was awesome

29:12

. So , yeah , and

29:15

we saw pictures and everything looked great and

29:18

it didn't blow over or do anything .

29:19

the rest of the night . Oh , and I hope not . Those feet are like

29:21

15 , 20 pounds plus like a

29:24

piece I know .

29:25

So I'm like throwing them in the back of the car and I'm thinking

29:27

I'm going to scrape paint off of the

29:30

truck bed I'm

29:32

like shoving them in there

29:34

, so , but I

29:36

feel like I

29:38

feel like , because we

29:41

all wear so many different hats , I

29:43

mean there's days where you're out in the field planting

29:46

and there's days where

29:48

you know the planting team

29:50

comes in and we ask them

29:52

to help with some arranging , like

29:54

garlands and things Exactly

29:56

, I feel like that gives us a

29:58

different perspective on

30:00

when things happen like

30:03

wind . I mean Amber

30:05

can talk about her Britland

30:07

experience and the wind when

30:09

she stomped her feet . Oh my God

30:11

, she was so windy , oh , with the breeze .

30:14

Yeah , that was not

30:16

one of my favorite weddings .

30:18

That was one of our first weddings

30:21

that we had done and the bride had

30:23

wanted taller

30:25

, lush , full vase arrangement

30:27

.

30:27

Oh well , she also wanted the balls

30:29

hanging from the tree . Thankfully , the

30:32

planner nixed that because it was so windy

30:34

.

30:34

So the things hang , dang it , the

30:37

things hanging from the tree . It's

30:40

like what you see in like restaurants and things where you put

30:42

like the candles in it , and it's like a little teardrop glass

30:44

thing with like holes in the top so it can vent out

30:46

. That's kind of that's what we're talking about .

30:49

She wanted , but it was windy as not it

30:51

was really windy and Britland is up on a hill

30:53

.

30:54

Yeah , so it's even windier up against the water .

30:56

Yeah , up on a hill against the water there's

30:59

I mean there's trees all

31:01

over the place , but it doesn't stop

31:03

that wind from coming through there but

31:05

we had put centerpieces on the tables

31:07

that were tall and lush and that

31:09

Amber can make . Yes , so

31:12

the plants were all so beautiful and

31:14

the wind sailed them and then there

31:16

was water all over the completely

31:18

formally totally set

31:21

table .

31:22

Now picture you've got a 10 10

31:24

person seated table around

31:27

a linen , all the plates , all

31:29

the forks , all the knives , all the glass

31:31

. Everything is set . The wind

31:33

comes and the vase goes . You can't

31:37

leave it and go and try

31:39

to dry it .

31:40

Yeah , that's usually when we have fur and dust all over

31:42

things . We're like trying to

31:44

get it off , because I never wanted people's food . Yeah

31:46

, like I would never want that .

31:48

Thank God there was a dryer , because we were like whoosh .

31:50

You know what I'm saying ? That was the day we found out Britland had a

31:52

dryer . We just stripped the whole table .

31:54

Yeah , yeah , I actually think there were two of them

31:56

. And what we realized ?

31:58

what was happening . And then we just started grabbing

32:00

them and we were looking at each other and

32:02

like we never want to look unprofessional

32:05

, we never want to look flustered . So

32:07

Well , thank God we knew the caterer , because

32:09

where we knew the caterer and we knew the planner , yeah

32:12

, and she was like no problem , no worries , and I'm sure

32:14

inside she was cursing us

32:16

, maybe a little bit

32:18

, but I'm sure there's worse things than water falling

32:21

over . We built what

32:23

the bride wanted and Amber was like what do we

32:25

do ? I was like I don't give a shit what she

32:27

says at this point they can't fall

32:29

over . I said go all the way over there

32:31

, grab a bucket and cut these suckers down

32:33

. And that's what we did .

32:35

And it worked , and it was fine . Yeah , so

32:37

essentially the arrangements looked the same , they were just shorter

32:39

. Yeah .

32:40

They just , I mean , and that was

32:42

the night that they had a wicked

32:44

thunderstorm yeah

32:46

, wicked , and they didn't have sides on the tent

32:49

.

32:49

So which is please have

32:51

sides on your tent .

32:52

I don't care what time of year it is , unless

32:54

it's like it's happening in the option yeah , unless it's like

32:56

October .

32:57

If there is like more than a 40 , 50%

33:00

chance of rain somewhere , please put

33:02

sides on your tent . It's just gonna save

33:04

everybody so much time and space and money .

33:06

I just remember Amber distinctly stomping

33:09

her feet . Okay

33:11

, Fine , I didn't think I

33:13

heard thump thump , thump thump . I was like

33:15

oh , it

33:18

was .

33:19

You've definitely got our stories , that's for sure . Good

33:22

end .

33:22

Ben , yeah , yeah , but there are

33:24

so many that go really well

33:26

, there's so many that you know there's

33:30

unexpected little gems and unexpected

33:32

little moments and there's just Like

33:34

last weekend when you did another Jewish

33:37

wedding .

33:38

We honestly do a lot of Jewish weddings . I was thinking

33:40

about it .

33:41

And .

33:43

But you went into Baltimore and

33:45

the restaurant that you delivered to

33:47

was the restaurant of

33:49

an Italian family that

33:51

we had just done the weekend before

33:53

.

33:54

No , way , it was so cool , literally right next

33:56

door . It was right next door to each other .

33:58

And Nicole had texted me . She was like oh , Martella's , Like

34:00

family's daily restaurant thing , it was like

34:03

right next door .

34:03

I was like that wedding was almost

34:05

like . It was almost like a scavenger hunt

34:07

, because we dropped things

34:10

off in literally downtown , inner

34:12

city , baltimore .

34:14

Not much out of the other one , no , no .

34:18

So we went upstairs and

34:20

I would never like I put

34:22

stuff on the story about the hotel

34:24

. The hotel was so

34:27

long . It was like

34:29

it was almost distorted at the end because

34:31

it was just so so , so long . But

34:35

I had to carry all the bouquets up and we

34:37

had put them in a kitchen

34:41

dish . How do you explain what we

34:43

use , our trays that

34:45

we use ?

34:46

Oh , it's like when the caterers come

34:48

in and they have glasses or you see , rack

34:50

it's . They're just plastic racks . Yeah , they're dish racks .

34:52

Yeah , but they're sturdy , we can clean

34:54

them . It makes it super easy

34:56

, cause that way we can carry all of the bases

34:59

and everything but getting in

35:01

the elevator , walking

35:03

from the van , getting in the elevator

35:05

, going all the way up to the fifth floor , walking

35:07

all the way down . Those

35:10

suckers were so heavy , so by the time I was in

35:12

there I had like lululala .

35:15

My arms were so done . It's

35:18

like that style shoot we did .

35:19

Yeah , with all the steps . Oh my God , that

35:22

was a great style shoot , but it was . It was

35:24

interesting . I was very sure

35:26

that building had asbestos in it .

35:27

Oh yeah , 100% .

35:29

It was all bamboo and you'll be fine . Yeah , that

35:31

definitely had lead and paint like peeling

35:34

, like it was a like a old

35:36

bottle capping factory . I'm pretty

35:38

sure it was from like Coca-Cola , but they just took all of

35:40

their bottles off , so they weren't like oh

35:43

my God , coca-cola is kind of deteriorating factory

35:45

in .

35:45

Baltimore . It was a root beer , it was . It was

35:47

a root beer cause I looked it up , cause I'm a

35:49

nerd , but it was a root beer

35:51

bottling facility and it closed

35:54

and it sat closed for a long time . But now

35:56

it's part of an arts district so all

35:58

of the individual little shops are

36:00

like glass blowers and painters and

36:02

sculptors and pottery , and I mean

36:04

it was . The building might not look as pretty , but

36:06

those websites for those people that work in there is

36:08

, oh my God , walking past those rooms

36:11

and kind of like peeking in , being like what do you do ?

36:13

Well , sometimes they're like they're . They're big doors

36:15

, so their cracks are really big and you can kind of like peek

36:17

in . They had slots and

36:19

files and shelves of art everywhere

36:22

it was . It was crazy . And then that one room

36:24

everybody's like what's that sound ?

36:26

It was like boom , boom , boom .

36:27

Yeah , there's all this crazy music .

36:28

And I was like what are they doing ? So when we

36:30

were in , like the door was open , it

36:32

was like hey , and they were glass blowers Beautiful

36:35

, Absolutely beautiful . But so

36:38

last weekend , so we go to the hotel

36:40

, then we went to the church and

36:43

then we went to the reception spot , so it was like

36:45

this like , like I

36:47

don't know , like where's Waldo ?

36:49

Yeah , it was good .

36:51

It was a lot of fun , but I

36:53

don't know if we answer our first question what

36:56

sets us apart ?

36:58

All of it that we just talked about . Like

37:00

everything we do personally

37:03

, I think we do more than like the typical florist

37:06

does , but it's , you know , it's because of the care

37:08

and our reviews can tell you

37:10

that . Yeah , that's true , Because

37:13

that's usually what we ask from our brides in

37:15

return is hey , can you just leave us a review

37:17

on Google and go

37:19

from there ? You're pretty , pretty

37:21

thankful for it , Very thankful

37:23

for it . For sure , I'm thankful for

37:25

where we are , I think we've

37:27

done a really good job of getting personal

37:30

with the brides and

37:32

the moms and the grooms too

37:35

. Honestly , when they want to be involved , like that's even

37:37

better Cause , then we walk in and we're like , oh hey , you know

37:39

how are you and cause I totally last

37:41

weekend I need to tell you this camera

37:43

. I'm walking up on the second floor

37:45

dropping off boutonniers . Dropping off the boutonniers

37:48

is always a question of

37:50

what you're going to get , because the girls are usually

37:52

like oh pretty robes and

37:54

pajama sets and food and charcuterie

37:56

boards and a champagne .

37:57

Guys are always like a grab bag . What are we going

37:59

to get this time ?

37:59

Yeah , like what kind of guys Cause . Like

38:01

we get a feel for the girls , but sometimes you can't

38:04

really tell like what . Sometimes we

38:06

never even talked to the guys . Yeah , or

38:09

on like the morning of you know like what kind of

38:11

vibe we're like dealing with and

38:13

you know all I can say is don't hit golf balls

38:15

.

38:16

And it's just be like , that's all I ask

38:18

. Oh no .

38:19

Yeah , so that was my mom coming

38:21

out of me .

38:22

I guess , if you want to put it that way , I was like I'm

38:24

not environmentally friendly . Yeah

38:26

.

38:27

But on the second floor of whatever

38:29

hotel we were in . I walked in and

38:31

they were like oh yeah , they're in room like 116

38:34

or 20 . Whatever , Whatever

38:37

, I'm walking

38:39

and I knock on the door , You're like

38:41

I don't see a girl . So I hear a , and

38:43

I'm standing there in and

38:46

just reminding you I'm a five one

38:48

blonde little girl when

38:52

they're hair and a clip most of the time . I'm

38:54

not scary in like any means , no

38:56

, and she's wearing like bright eraser

38:59

, highly like neon green

39:01

. We don't usually go to the groom's

39:03

faces unless there's two people with us , but like

39:05

we knew these people , it was a we

39:07

know the venue , like it was okay . So

39:10

we , so I go in and I don't

39:12

even see anyone like

39:14

open up the door at the door just opens

39:16

because they were behind the door .

39:19

And all of the boys are in their underwear .

39:21

Yeah , what , yeah they're

39:23

all in their underwear or they're short , but you can

39:25

tell some of them that were like super

39:28

excited that they were in their underwear and

39:30

some of them that were really embarrassed that

39:32

they were in underwear and I was sitting there and the way

39:34

that the room was set up . So you like the

39:36

door opens and immediately behind the door when

39:38

the door opens up is are

39:40

the beds . So you walk into like the

39:42

side of the room , it's not like the front

39:44

or anything , it's like there's the

39:46

balcony , like if you walked straight . Yeah , so

39:49

they're all chilling in bed and they're not even dressed yet

39:52

. I'm like here you're

39:54

making ears . I literally just like I picked them up with

39:56

my little fingers and I said here you

39:58

go , here you go , bye .

40:00

Yep , I turned around and walked away .

40:01

I was like oh my God , and

40:03

I texted mom and I was like , well , I totally just walked in and all

40:05

the guys in underwear and

40:08

I'm sure they're gonna appreciate that I said they either

40:10

had faces of terror or

40:12

faces of what the fuck ?

40:14

Or faces of oh my .

40:16

God or whatever it may be , cause I

40:18

guess they thought that I was like a housekeeping

40:20

or whatever , but I just knocked them

40:22

to work cause there was no music , they were just watching

40:24

TV or whatever .

40:26

It's so funny to see guys get ready

40:28

versus girls .

40:29

Yeah , the girls were like halfway ready and

40:31

they're sitting in their underwear .

40:33

Yeah , literally .

40:35

Yeah , like , okay , here's your flowers

40:37

. You know for your suits when you

40:39

put them on , I

40:41

was like yeah , I was like I was dressing you

40:43

, that just happened .

40:44

Oh my .

40:46

God yeah . So it was pretty funny , but

40:48

you never know what you're gonna get .

40:50

Never , ever Ever .

40:52

Mm-mm Between catering

40:54

and events that are already there , set up before , and you've

40:57

got to set up in between , or right

40:59

after they're finished . Or and sometimes

41:01

the bride has no idea Nope

41:03

, she has no clue , I'm not

41:05

a one and we get the best review in the world . We're

41:08

like well , you don't know what half of the things that happened

41:10

, I know . And that's a good thing , like the amount

41:12

of bugs that I've found on your guys'

41:14

cakes . And then I had to

41:16

decorate . I was like they will never know that there was

41:18

a stink bug crawling on their cake , said

41:21

. But I will . I said and I took it off

41:23

at the toothpick . So

41:25

yeah , it's been . It's

41:28

been interesting to say at least Educational

41:31

, so okay .

41:32

So next time let's talk about

41:34

wedding stuff , like the actual

41:37

setup , like some of the stuff we've learned , some

41:39

of the stuff we've seen , like some

41:41

of those moments that really pop out . So

41:43

, and from you guys listening

41:45

, I would love to have you drop us a line

41:47

, check out our Instagram

41:50

, check out all of the ways that you can

41:52

find us . Let's

41:54

see , Lizzie , what's our , what's our Instagram ?

41:57

Well , for this it's the floral files and

41:59

for our actual Instagram it's wildly

42:01

native flower frontment . I'll start to push

42:03

our handle a little bit more now that we have two episodes out

42:06

and we have our handle .

42:07

That's so funny . It's like a picture handle , a

42:10

car handle Are we going to be on your phone . No

42:12

, your Instagram handle .

42:13

Yeah , but yeah we'll , we'll

42:16

get that straight and I'll start to push that out a little bit more .

42:18

I definitely would love some feedback . And what

42:20

do you guys want to hear about ? What do you want to know about

42:22

? I feel like there's so many podcasts that are like here's

42:25

how you grow the flowers , and then there's here's

42:27

how you do the weddings , and then here's the floors

42:29

that's like , oh , the floor's trend is

42:31

, and it's like and then there's us . We

42:33

don't fit any bucket , we fit all the buckets

42:36

and we just stomp in all the buckets

42:38

.

42:38

And it's like we're hearing experiences

42:41

, the growing process , the wedding

42:43

setups , the good , the bad , the ugly

42:45

, the beautiful all of the good experiences

42:48

that we've had with the reality

42:50

, and that's what I want this to really be .

42:52

Yeah , the reality . Yeah

42:54

, so cool , be . Catch

42:56

you next time .

42:57

Bye guys .
