In this episode I talk to Ed, a youth ambassador for the anti-bullying charity; Bulliesout.

Ed talks about how having autism and being different, led them to suffer severe bullying throughout their school life. They talk about how their bullying started in primary and continued right up until secondary school where it became much worse.  Ed talks about not having real friends during this tough time and how the stereotypes around autism were really harmful. 

Ed talks about how the lack of support from teachers made them feel so umimportant and says teachers needs to take bullying more seriously and educate themselves on autism and they definitely shouldn't turn a blind eye. Ed highlights that the lack of awareness and education around autism made it more difficult for them too.

No-one deserves to be bullied, they say.

After Ed's horrendous experience they were determined to not let the bullying ruin their life and to be their narrative, As soon as they left hospital, they searched for various volunteering opportunities. This was when they found Bulliesout; an anti-bullying charity which they say changed their life. Ed says becoming an ambassador for Bullieout was the best decision of their life.

Being part of a community at Bulliesout has helped Ed build their confidence, learn key skills,  help others and find their voice.

Volunteering is a huge part of their life now and whatever Ed decides to do career wise, they will continue helping others change their narrative.
