One of the best stories I have ever heard
Listened to this a few years back, as I was beginning to get into audiodramas. Loved it. Technical enough to push your brain, but gives you time to digest. Interesting story too:D Bonus surprise for me at the time: all characters are voiced by the creator.
Holy hell, what a story. For all the love it gets, cyberpunk is a genre I've always felt doesn't have nearly enough content available. More traditional sci-fi has a fairly large audience, especially these days. By its definition, cyberpunk eschews such broad appeal to the point of taking pride in bucking convention. So, when I say that The Fourth Ambit may be one of the best works in the genre across all mediums, I mean it. It's that good. Good as Dawson is as Giles, you're here for the writing. This is a very, very smart story that's strong throughout, but it doesn't overstay its welcome. It's efficient, giving you enough time to grow connected to the characters and world. It takes the real world mechanics that underlie computing and networks and melds them perfectly with plausible pseudoscience. The story is thrilling from start to finish. Slowly, inexorably, you're lowered deeper and deeper through the levels of the Ambit right alongside Giles, and every minute of it feels glorious.
Clearly structured, well paced, superbly produced. This is an action-filled adventure I enjoyed very much. The author didn't fall into the "in VR everything is possible therefore I will make it complex" trap.
This story was pretty astonishing. Acted out by the author himself with music and soundscaping, the production values are solid. This is a cyberpunk slow burn mystery with a deeply drawn world and a sprawling, satisfying story. Lots of interesting themes and profound philosophical musings about what it means to be a human being in the technological age.
An intriguing and immersive cyberpunk mystery drama that explores the development of technology - specifically virtual reality and different types of artificial intelligences. The plot unfolds as the competent protagonist solves problems and uncovers new mysteries. The worldbuilding is mixes mechanics underlying computing and creates an interesting world from speculation. I loved the facets of the concepts explored by the story, from how economic class to mortality without a functioning body to differing thought processes and structures between human beings and artificial intelligences. Story is told through narration and dialogue, all written and performed entirely by one person who keeps the voices distinct enough to follow. Written over 20 years ago, the commentary on technology and corporation-run government remains relevant.
Super well done! Great world building, pretty technical, but in a way I could understand as well.
