When it comes to public art in Chicago, we traditionally reference well-known works like the Picasso at Daley Plaza or Cloud Gate ("The Bean") in Millenium Park. But, do we ever consider the building exterior of restaurants like Dia de Los Tamales on 18th St in Pilsen or the Berwyn underpass off of Lake Shore Drive? If not, we should.

The mosaic murals that make-up many of a Chicagoans daily commute, are created by students and community members who participate in Green Star Movement. A Chicago based, non-profit program that has produced over 100 mosaic murals located throughout the city of Chicago.

In this Good Seeker interview, I make my over to Chicago’s West Side for an interview with some of the organizations teaching artists. I sit down with Michal Taylor, Program Coordinator, and Jamie Porto, a Project Manager for the organization, to discuss the mosaic murals that continue to impact and inspire students and communities generation after generation.
